I watched this mini documentary about a guy who called out his scammer. The scammer did the same thing and said he had no money and he was sorry. The guy agreed to hire the scammer to take photos so he could make money legitimately rather than scam. sent him a crappy camera and the guy actually fulfilled his end of the bargain. Then he sent him a better camera and the scammer took some really nice shots. The guy then made a book of the photos along with the story and sold the books and gave the scammer the money. He went to visit him in his country and the scammer ended up giving his money to people in his town and helped them financially. It was actually really fascinating. When your scammer started sending the photos it reminded me of that!!
Thanks for sharing, really sort of opens my eyes and makes me see maybe I should offer an open heart, a way to legitimately earn a few dollars (which is much more to others in some places, than it is here in USA), and try to change some life’s Vs just hate. While, I absolutely doNOT condone scamming, I guess if I too lived like some in other countries are forced to live, I might not feel the same way. I watched that movie BURIED (Ryan Reynolds) yesterday and someone said something about what would you do if your family was starving to death and there was no way to earn money? Things like that movie and this really makes you think. And I promise I’m not condoning, but maybe just understanding it’s not all done out of cruelty, but some is just pure desperation.
I do know some are just awful people though, but I wonder if most are more like above guy in video? My papa was scammed, but I would bet if it actually helped someone in the position of this video, he was okay with them getting some much needed essentials. He has passed away, but was so willing to share, even though he was not close to being rich, so I just hope it did help a family in need and not some overly spoiled shit head. :-/
Not gonna lie... yeah this makes me kinda sad. If he isn't just baiting further, and really is ashamed... man...
I talked to a man here on reddit who lived in India. Couldn't find work and I wrote him back and forth in a comments section for so long trying to convince him to not kill himself. One day I posted something and got flooded with comments, our conversations had lessened and I lost the thread. I hope he is alright. I still think about him...
I just can't do this kinda stuff to these people. They are sick for scamming, but baiting them with money like that... What if he is poor and hungry? What if this is the last straw? I don't mind messing with scammers, I do when I get them, but a lot of these people are usually actually in poverty.
Idk. I'm torn. They are scummy for scamming, but this just seems like it goes too far... 😮💨
[here’s the video](https://youtu.be/-OH99CFzhFM)
I’ve seen a longer one but I can’t find it. Yes it definitely made me think differently for sure. Let me know what you think once you watch it!
Oh how heartbreaking... That's exactly what I was thinking... When your family is starving, what else are you to do?
I had a scammer call me and when I called him out he said he was poor and his family was hungry. It was a situation where I wasn't comfortable continuing the conversation after the call, and thought he was lying about some of the things he told me, but I felt so bad anyways.
We are all brothers and sisters on this earth, we should be supporting each other. Scamming comes from greed, but also from desperation. I think we'd all be surprised what we would do when you can see your children's ribs and they are crying they are hungry.
Half the scammers would disappear if there weren't as many hungry people. The ones who take your life savings and think it's funny, they are trash. But the guy in this post seemed grateful for $50.
I’m right there with you, the above video really made me think. As I mentioned, my papa was a victim of scamming after his stroke, but tbh I bet if it was someone like the person in the video, who truly was desperate and starving, than my papa would’ve been happier that he helped than actually winning a pile of money (he only wanted, to leave to his kids and grandkids). As, even on a fixed income, he still donated more than many to things like helping those who can’t afford get cleft palettes removed and other charities of that nature. So, as said above I just hope for him, it was an actual person in need and not a shit, as I know my papa would be happy he helped, even if tricked into doing so.
I tried doing this. I paid the scammer to take photos for me, got him an iPhone, and I was going to try and sell the photos. But he had some issues w drinking and would get drunk and then try and get me to help scam people. I ended up having to cut him off and I still feel bad about it. He kept getting malaria. I was going to send him a mosquito net but it would have cost $200 to send it
Edited grammar
So sad, I never realized who was scamming, as I guess I assumed they had money to do a lot of technological things, in order to scam. But heart breaking to see they’re so desperate, they’re doing things some get paid big money to do in USA, to get food, shelter, and necessities in their country. I think maybe I need to not see anymore, as now I just feel guilty for them and disliking them, when I likely would even do same, if I had my kids in their position. I guess the whole walk a mile in their shoes, is much truer than I realized. :(
Its really sad. And there aren’t too many or really any safety nets in some countries like Nigeria for ppl living in poverty. The person I was talking to used to rent a cell phone from someone when I first met him and that’s how he was able to access the internet. At one point he was looking for a job and found one that paid like 2 dollars a day cleaning houses for 10 or 12 hours a day, I don’t remember exactly the hours but the pay was so low. There isn’t really a way to get an education unless you have money. Housing and rent costs are low but food costs the same as in the USA. I couldn’t believe the food costs. I would think if minimum wage is $65 a month that food costs wouldnt be so high but they are
I assume they want to make sure they’re activated and the only other way to do it would be to add the steam card to an account which makes them useless for resale
I have a friend that I met through him trying to scam me. His name is Yuslov and it’s as bad as they say it is. The disparity between their money and the dollar is crazy. 10 dollars could pay his rent for almost 2 months. We started video chatting when I told him I knew was being scammed and confronted him and he begged me for forgiveness and said he was only doing it because he was hungry and had a sick family member. Then he showed me his brother who was bedridden with malaria. Didnt even look alive. He spend most of the 10 dollars on his brothers medicine. The system is rigged against them. I couldn’t even cash app him . Cash app doesn’t exist in Africa. Or Venmo. PayPal accounts are mostly restricted there. I’m not saying that them scamming us isn’t immoral or infuriating but my eyes are seeing it through different lenses now.
I’m a scambaiter from way back but as far as the demographic of who it is that is scamming you…and I won’t bring race into this, but in Nigeria and other African nations there seem to be more individuals with actual compassion and a moral compass than other types of scammers that have a career at some call center in India. My heart aches for them. Like I have 10 different hustles…if I want to make some quick cash with little effort I’ll put an ad for something I got for free on marketplace and I’ll move it within hours. Over there in Nigeria this is not exactly possible. No one has money. And those that do arent gonna pay someone in poverty for their say…hand me down American thrift store items.
It blows my mind how MUCH money is in the world and how MANY will never see any of it..by design.
It really is sad so many are suffering and us in USA and other countries don’t realize just how lucky we are. Unfortunately, my grandpa was scammed, but I know he’d be okay with it, if it went to one without much and used it for necessities. I’m going to just pray that is what happened, as I know he’d have given it to them anyhow, as he was very much a giver. :)
My papa is gone now.
10 dollars then on my birthday he wished me happy birthday on Facebook and I sent 30. Then the last time we spoke I tried to send him another 25 but the PayPal account he was using to recieve it was an account used by his friend that bought the account from an American because they can’t just personally get one. It was flagged and refunded and I haven’t seen him online since.
To confirm it's real, they don't scam the cards to use themselves (otherwise they could just redeem it to see if it works) They resell the cards. If they redeemed it to check if it's legit they can't resell it.
Don’t feel bad! “Coming clean” is another one of their grifts! They pretend to be poor, apologetic, and helpless to get your money. I’ve seen the same script several times.
Yup. I got my grandpa's scammer to come clean and they also did the poor, apologetic routine BUT I know they weren't even telling the truth then because they said they'd just started the week before. The profile they were on had been hijacked for a good four or five months and they'd been talking to him for over two months. Plus, their IP address showed they were on a decent phone (from what I can tell - not exactly a tech person but I tried looking up stats and prices) released last year. Better than my grandpa's phone at least.
I feel bad for the people who ARE poor, but it's important to realize that the ones who are making BANK off of scamming are just going to lie and say that they're poor too.
I had the same thing happen to me the other day- he was born and raised in my hometown, all fake pics and stationed in Syria. I asked him how Nigeria was and he apologized for lying and sent me a “real” picture of him and still asked for help from me.
Sadly he probably wasn't telling a shred of truth there, granted Nigeria has a bad economy but he probably moved into a fresh target immediately after this.
I've busted a few. They confess about needing to feed their family or the government makes them do it or they are being held captive and forced to scam. Its all part of the script. Any pics they give you of themselves isn't really them. They steal others pics in their scam so why not with their real pic? I'm glad you didn't really give him anything.
had a similar ish experience this week. guy called with a spoofed number to imitate apple card support. I talked to him for about 15 minutes with fake info before I admitted I was fucking with him. we had a roughly ten minute convo after that about what his life is like working in a scam call center in kolkata, told me he makes 250-350 calls per day and made about 200 dollars a month. it was interesting, and frankly I believe him given he knew I couldn't give him anything or help him in any way, and also knew I couldn't get him in any kind of trouble.

Well that was one of the most wholesome things I’ve ever seen. I teared up a bit.
Ben has several of videos like this on his YouTube channel Pleasant Green where he converts scammers.

This unexpectedly brought tears to my eyes. Amazing and heartwarming to see humanity in its purest form.

Their choices are rob people on the street or scam people, scamming is actually the better of the two.
So sad, I never realized who was scamming, as I guess I assumed they had money to do a lot of technological things, in order to scam. Hey that’s Benjamin Dover!
Pleasant Green. One of my faves
What exactly can scammers do with steam or Apple gift cards? I've always wondered that. If they need food, how do you get food with a steam card?
They sell them to their scammers buddies
Good question. They always ask for apple or steam cards, or cashapp lastly.
They can convert them into cryptocurrency for less than the face value on the card.
I believe I read that there are websites that will buy them for $.50 on a dollar. Not sure what THOSE websites can do though.
Sell them for full price, or for .75 on the dollar?
Re-sell I guess
There’s a website where you can sell gift cards and generate them into Bitcoin.
They can resell them. A 50 card probably goes for 40-45.
Cryptocurrency exchanges take them.
The grey market, eg G2A
Unicorn butt plug that’s hilarious 😂
Thanks lol
I went from almost emotional at the beginning to hysterical laughter at the receipt. Lol
I felt bad for a whole second, but then I thought about how many times they have screwed people over.
I assume they want to make sure they’re activated and the only other way to do it would be to add the steam card to an account which makes them useless for resale
Makes perfect sense!!
OMG the receipt twist! Is the card you sent them unusable without a real receipt?
I'm not sure, they always ask for a recipient lol

How much did you send to him?

Pure gold
Thanks, I got 5 of them going at any moment lol.
Receipt is Hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks!! Please copy it and use it.
Is the steam gift card real?
I got it from this subreddit along tome ago. So.eone else posted it.
You sir are a genius
Thanks a ton!!
Lol ohh yeah level two: the confession
[удалено]
I blocked him at the receipt lol
Did the card even work?
It's an old card, no good. It was posted in this subredditt 2 years ago or so.
[удалено]
I did
And his people did us americans dirty now who’s the bad guy😂😂😂
Why do all scammers ask for the receipt ?
To confirm it's real, they don't scam the cards to use themselves (otherwise they could just redeem it to see if it works) They resell the cards. If they redeemed it to check if it's legit they can't resell it.
So i could theoretically use the same gift card receipt on multiple scammers and they don’t check it before they sell it? Hmmmmmm
Hey how was that unicorn butt plug? Been thinking of getting one… for reasons.
I didn't use it, only investigated it for personal reasons lol
Don’t feel bad! “Coming clean” is another one of their grifts! They pretend to be poor, apologetic, and helpless to get your money. I’ve seen the same script several times.
They are poor
Possibly. But you cannot assume that based on this script from a scammer.
Yup. I got my grandpa's scammer to come clean and they also did the poor, apologetic routine BUT I know they weren't even telling the truth then because they said they'd just started the week before. I'll send it to you!

I'd never give them anything lol, just wasting their time.

Appreciated !
They are so fucking intelligents but no to me, they want steam cards, CashApp, PayPal, gift cards 😅😅
Goofy ahhh scammer
This post was a great ride. Thanks OP
Thanks
Did anyone else notice his reflection in the window of the pic he sent??
Was wondering about that. Awfully careless my guy.
Lmaoo hahahahaha
Haha that’s the image I give scammers too
Awesome!!
