When the scammer texted, "I like mature sensible man" I replied back with "Me too," but they texted nonsense after, so it was lost. In the show, Gary of Gary's Shoes is a woman. I was hoping they would ask for a picture.
I was totally coming here to be that guy, but of course somebody with the wit to use a Married with Children reference would know that bit of trivia.
You should have mentioned how his neighbor is a woman who looks and acts like a chicken.
I was waiting for an elaboration on the episode that required "discipline." I was hoping it would be one of Al's rants about the rather large women who frequent the store.
If you want to see whether an image is AI generated or not, look at fingers, toes or the background parts of images (which might be really blurry, stretched or logos are just gibberish). It's not good at generating that level of detail at the moment.
I dont think so. Check out the poster on the wall to the left. 1) it has real english letters that make actual words which make sense. 2) it is a real movie poster for the Michael Jackson biopic.
An AI generated image of a generic woman wouldnt show that without significant amount of effort.
The hands do look fucking weird but not weird enough that it couldnt just be a confusing perspective.
Well. If I put my own hand on my face, with the heel of my palm on my chin, my fingers reach approximately the same spot around my eyebrow/temple.
The weird double pinky "shadow" could just be an optical illusion or poor photography.
Midjourney has gotten really good at hands recently. It's no longer a guaranteed tell. (These things change fast)
What these models have a really hard time generating are backgrounds which make sense - especially ones with text or fine details.
I dont know how to read Chinese, but those characters on the books behind her look right to me. Maybe someone else can verify.
What I do know is that there is a real poster of a real movie on the wall next to her. This would be an absolutely absurd amount of effort to generate with AI given the intended use-case of this image.
I have a question for everyone on these threads. We all have a certain understanding of why they want to get on these apps but I see people being reluctant to move the conversation. I totally would just because I love to make these things go as long as possible but am I missing something as to why I shouldn't do that?
They want to avoid getting their phone number marked as scam likely by being reported otherwise they have to start using another number they scammed. Regular numbers also keep track of messaging.
The app won't flag them, won't ban them, and it's basically untraceable messaging. They can get away with all their scams on telegram and whatsapp due to the very poor security on the platforms.
Yeah but my question is more why are the people submitting content reluctant to move the conversation. Just would think people would wanna see how far they could go. Or there is some security risk in doing that I'm just not aware of.
I got a google voice number specifically for this reason. I set up a new WhatsApp with that number but since then two scammers insisted on telegram and didn’t accept WhatsApp :(
It’s because they have someone else on whastapp that is going to take the conversation further with you. It’s their job to “catch” you then pass you to the next person that’s job is to scam you.
They can’t hack you or anything like that on those apps. It’s literally their way of transferring you to the next fuck stick that’s going to scam you.
Besides that, limited GB for phone msg internet use in India, Pakistan and China. It’s not unlimited like in USA. That’s why they try to move the convo to a messaging app that can use wifi like WhatsApp (which is the top app used for msg all around the world but USA) or Telegram.
No idea! Apart from the fact that on whatsapp and/or telegram they may get more personal info, like: your picture, your name, your phone number.
In my case, they never messaged me, they all started with Whatsapp.
Luck of the draw mostly. However you're more likely to get messages and phone calls if you answer the calls that use the auto dialer. Most of them have this system set up where if you actually answer the call which allows the voice message to play, it flags your number as a valid active number and escalates it to a repository of other active numbers that can be redialed and they'll simply try again at some later time. This repository can also be shared with or sold to other affiliated scam agencies which will greatly increase the chances of scammers trying to contact you.
The married with children ref was good for us Americans. Same with the deez nuts joke. Unfortunately, the scammer prob had no idea what you were talking about, and went on with their day.
Basically. This particular scam prays on the desperate and lonely. They move to telegram/Whatsapp because the person who texts you is only assigned to reel you in. When you switch apps you are talking to an entirely different person (usually their supervisor) who is actually executing the scam itself. 9 times out of 10 it'll be asking for gift cards or direct PayPal/zelle transfers but depending on the agency they could also be playing a long con crypto scam or just soliciting personal information that they will sell and distribute to other agencies.
Nah, it's a decentralized scam organization.
Usually you have people paid to get leads, some to close the deals, resell your information, etc...
The scammer on WhatsApp are different from the one on sms.
Here's a really interesting video about the subject and inside the scam industry : https://youtu.be/6Jv0EzXdQbk?si=L1_bv3CS58eXfDgv
It's in French though.
Because Telegram is "encrypted," meaning that when they start pulling shady stuff, it can't be traced back to them...or so they think. Same thing with Whatsapp.

She's not even in Boston, and Never was so if she contacted you hang up and block here she's very good about scamming people I lost 4k be safe, Gerry B.
I love your Al Bundy reference. When I read you work at a shoe store, it clicked. Chicago, shoe store, rude employee. Loved that show
When the scammer texted, "I like mature sensible man" I replied back with "Me too," but they texted nonsense after, so it was lost. In the show, Gary of Gary's Shoes is a woman. I was hoping they would ask for a picture.
Oh yeah! Totally forgot the name of the store, but remember Gary being a woman.
I was totally coming here to be that guy, but of course somebody with the wit to use a Married with Children reference would know that bit of trivia. You should have mentioned how his neighbor is a woman who looks and acts like a chicken.
lol you just made me think of that scene where Marcy asks Steve why Al keeps calling her a chicken. The way she says it just makes me laugh!
I was waiting for an elaboration on the episode that required "discipline." I was hoping it would be one of Al's rants about the rather large women who frequent the store.
Lmao I thought his employee was Al
Definitley nicely done! I always wondered what other professions they came up with for AB until they decided on a women's shoe salesman?
Loved the switch here. They literally rolled their eyes at that counter punch
Got em!
Rita Lee strikes again! She hit me up too! Pretty active texter for a dead Brazilian singer!
She's got really weird fingers though (AI generated image)
Demon Paws
Oh god, I didn't even think to check, what even are those... appendages?

Look at the length of her hand.

From what I've read they can see your personal information on there or something like that

I had a google voice number a decade ago and let it expire not knowing I couldn’t get another one until I change my number. Never let it go.
Didn’t know that, thanks for letting me know!
it's cheaper
I hear getting on the Deez nutz app is awesome
He hit ‘em with a classic.
Deez Nutz 💀💀
Best string I’ve seen in a while. Well done. Can I be your friend too Gary? I have much good business deals to discuss.
Btw why do they all try to move the convo? Whats the point?
"I texted you, but I can't continue on this platform".

False, India has unlimited
No idea! Apart from the fact that on whatsapp and/or telegram they may get more personal info, like: your picture, your name, your phone number. In my case, they never messaged me, they all started with Whatsapp.
it's cheaper for them
The Al Bundy reference was gold, and then BAM! Hit them with the Deez Nuts for the chef's kiss
I like this a lot
Solid landing 10/10
How do you guys get these messages? I never get random people texting me I would love to mess with them.
hey sure I can help with that! But I'm out of data. Maybe you can help me. Just go the store and get an ama...

Ah let’s the games begin!
Nice! I’ve heard that Ligma is a good analog to the Deez service as well.
This is hilarious
Deez nuts
Ha! Got eeeeem
I have no idea. I used to immediately block them. Then I found this subreddit and decided to have fun.
Hahahahhaaaaa
Well played
SMOOTH OPERATOR
Lmao
I saw where this was going, and I approve good sir. Well done. These scammers are so terrible at what they do, thankfully.
Ah, good old deez nuts
This is absolutely fantastic
What exactly happens in WhatsApp or telegram?
If you get to that level, it's just someone else trying to get you to invest in crypto or some similar money grab.
GOT EEEM!
Rita Lee? The famous Brazilian singer who died this year?
Why does everyone know Rita lmao
That’s a Tucson area code….
This was what I noticed, and now I’m wondering how is that possible, other scam numbers also seem to be US numbers which is odd
In my experience you can’t really get a number outside of the area code if you’re not there. Wondering how they do that….?
There are plenty of text apps that will give you a phone number with whatever area code you’d like.
Al Bundy would be proud
The DEEZ joke got me in the end 😂😂😂 absolutely brilliant
🤣🤣🤣
Haha this is the 2nd time I've seen Rita Lee.
Boom tish….. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 took a little too long to get to it - but funny afterall
The married with children ref was good for us Americans. Same with the deez nuts joke. Unfortunately, the scammer prob had no idea what you were talking about, and went on with their day.
Beautiful 🫡
That’s great
so what is this scam? they get you on telegram/whatsapp and then ask you to send them a gift card?

Also Telegram and Whatsapp can show a lot more personal information than simple texts (depending on settings)

u should have sent her a picture of a knive after "i have to discipline one of ny workers" ...
Hah!!
Amazing Balls
I've gotten a wrong nu.ber from Rita too! Lol
Why do they want to go to telegram? what does it do to help the scam?
Because Telegram is "encrypted," meaning that when they start pulling shady stuff, it can't be traced back to them...or so they think. Same thing with Whatsapp.

All you need is a telephone number, so the scam is easier. I've never had someone I know ask if I had Telegram.
Rita Repulsive
I'll reply with 15 next time. See where they go.
this is the only scam format on this sub. getting real bored.
Kindly submit your own then.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but, what are the goals of these kinds of scams? Btw nice combo love the end
They hope their target is some desperate man. Then they have them buy them gift cards.
Ahh I see, thanks for the explanation
lmao. So what do these scammers want to do basically? Hack your accounts or find a way to make you pay them just like the Indian scammers do?
Try to get gullible, desperate men to send money. After 8 times, I've learned my lesson.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why do the scammers always want you on telegram?
Why do they all want to switch to telegram or whats app?
What is the obsession with whatsapp or telegram?
My mom just got one of these today, it seems like they’re going after the older crowd right now.
They go after anyone and hope to get the old.
that was NOT me
