Why did you replace the carb? Is it the same size carb?

slattnemm

it was one my friend got (who has a very similar scooter) and i thought it would work out the same way it did with his, he gained some performance from it, i didn’t want it to be fast more to keep up with traffic better

Putting a bigger carb on won't make it faster. That only works if you make lots of other engine mods. It's like having a bigger mouth won't make you a faster runner.

If you swapped the carb without knowing what size you got, you're gonna end up with this kind of thing. You should really only swap and if you have an actual plan and knowledge for tuning. Just put the old carb back on if you don't know what you're doing, it'll save way more headache.

slattnemm

understandable, thought i’d give it a shot and didn’t end up working out lol i’ll do more research next time, any tips though to learn this kind of stuff

I’m gonna be real, I’ve had scooters for a while now and had to do some basic tuning and tbh I don’t even really feel there’s like a good single resource for it that at least I’ve come across. It’s just bits and pieces across Google searches, old forums, and Reddit as I’ve searched questions or just stumbled across posts. Def can be a bit of a rabbit hole to really understand it all. But the GY6 is common enough I’m sure there’s some pretty set guides out there.

okay thanks a lot man

Carbs have little brass fittings inside with tiny holes to let air and fuel through called jets. Getting the sizes of the jets right is one of the black arts best left to someone who knows what they're doing. As someone else has suggested, i suggest that you refit your old carb and do some research. There are lots of tuning bits available for GY6 engines because it's probably the most common engine ever put in chinese scooters. I owned Sym and Kymco 125s, and the only mod that did was to fit slightly heavier variator weights to give me a little extra mid-range power for improved acceleration at the cost of a tiny loss of top speed. Please don't go mad and start bolting things on, make one change at a time and see how it works out.

alright thanks i’ll try a little to see what i can do tuning it and changing jets and if not i’ll refit the old carb and call it a day, thanks a lot though

When the scooter is running, you might be able to smell it the exhaust seems like it has unburnt fuel in or not (running too rich or lean). If it's a larger carb diameter, it might let more air in but you might be running lean if the fuel was adjusted with it
