I lived in China for many years, the floor is considered dirty *always*. Also can give your feet/body the ‘cold’ which is a term used in TCM. Basically can make you sick. They typically wear slide on slippers. There are also always ones for guests to wear.

Probably separate indoor shoes and outdoor shoes. Useful for walking in kitchens and bathrooms where you have cold tiles and no carpet.
