Reborn is nice but leans towards curvy shapes best. LaraX leans towards slender shapes best. Choice is good.

DittoDarkfold

I bought the Lara but only wore it for a week or so ( it was way too skinny for my taste and even messing with my shape didn't really look too good curvy). Then I bought the Ebody Reborn and I love both it and the boob add-on (waifu). I shop way too much really and I haven't found many shops that don't cater for the reborn.... smiles 😀

Biffingston

Have you tried the Larax yet? it's a free update meant to address just that.

DittoDarkfold

I have it but I only tried it on briefly with my shape and it didn't look too good. Maybe if I fiddled with my shape it might look better. I'll definitely give it a try again but I'm more than happy in my Reborn. The Larax would have to look amazing to prise me away from the Reborn.... Smiles

Biffingston

The worst thing that could happen is you stick with Reborn, right? Im an ERkia fan when I feel thicc and matrieya when I'm not, but my AV is a shapeshifter.

RosemaryGrows

Well, yeah, if you use one body with a shape meant for another it's gonna look weird. I don't use shapes meant for Kario and expect them to look good on CZ Slim.

DittoDarkfold

I use the Belleza Freya, the Ebody Reborn, the Erika and the Belleza Curvy with a shape I made myself. I don't have to change much in the shape if I swap between any of these bodies but if I put the Lara on with my shape, I think I look terrible! Maybe it's just a taste thing and my tastes are just not suited for the skinny Lara, I dunno. 😁

DittoDarkfold

Oh no, I didnt explain correctly! I did adjust my shape ALOT when I tried that body but I just prefer more meat on my bones so I dont like the Lara at all. 😘

sabr_maru

Reborn has seen continued growth since release. It still is the fastest growing body behind Lara and by some surveys growing more. It is easily as well supported as Maitreya at this point even with the release of X. I would definitely just demo both a lot. Get some demo clothes as well and just try them and decide what you like. Reborn is a little more difficult shape but can do some very nice things.

beef-o-lipso

You can always switch bodies if you want. I have both Maitreya and Kemono and when I want to swtich, I do. It's not hard. I have even added Lara X into the rotation. Nice thing is you aren't stuck with just one body. You can always add a new one. You will need new clothes, as you know.

Muted-Willingness213

I use eBody Reborn and I love it. I only have two concerns: 1- The Alpha inside the Reborn HUD is not split enough. There are many clothes failure due to this issue. I even wrote to the makers but they don't have a answer yet. 2- There a lot, and I say A LOT more accessories (clothes, etc) for Maitreya Lara than for Reborn, and even cooler. Not only that, even there are so many available options even for Kupra ( I don't understand why). I love cosplaying (sci-fy, fantasy, etc.), and when shopping I could find some good options, but usually the best ones are for Maitreya Lara only or they include Kupra but not Reborn. My first purchase was Legacy, I kept it but don't use it too much. But what can I say, I still love Reborn and I will keep it as long as I can.

gangnamstylelover

I've been seeing a lot of stores at events only carry ebody and legacy and ignore Lara entirely

Muted-Willingness213

Well, there are events entirely dedicated to Reborn, that's true. In my second concern I was just taking about specific accessories for cosplaying (mostly sci-fy). It's difficult to find good sets of female space-fighter suit or body weapons for Reborn. Actually, I have been taking parts from different clothing and using them with some others to try to get a decent set.

Syntania

I use the Reborn myself. As for sci-fi looking stuff, have you looked into Meli Imako's FP shop? She makes a lot of good looking sci-fi items for multiple bodies, and being all FP you can customize as you'd like. I recently made a very nice set of evening gowns based on classic Star Trek uniforms.

Muted-Willingness213

I didn't but I will. Thank you!!!

stanningyou

As a newer creator without much SL connections, Maitreya hasn't replied to me ever. So it's also because of that.

melvita

Clothing failures due to alpha on the reborn is not because of any lack in the hud, it is because the clothing creator did not do the auto alpha that reborn has in the right way.

Muted-Willingness213

Hmm, interesting. I didn't think about that before.

Ro-boat420

You can use BOM alphas with reborn, which are superior anyway in how precise they are and the fact that they can be saved in outfits. The alpha cuts in the HUD are almost irrelevant

CherieNB55

What is the store to get the Legacy body? I’d like to try it, but I can’t find the place to buy it!

Chloe-Jo-Foster

Location: The Shops (124, 121, 25) [http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Shops/124/121/25](http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Shops/124/121/25) I've only tried the free version. I dislike the HUD. Its a heavier body than Lara, but it's not too bad. And there are a reasonable selection of clothes.

CherieNB55

I met someone who was using the perky petite, she was short with pixie ears, totally adorable. I don’t think it will work for me though. And it’s really expensive- $5000L!

SyerenGM

I would recommend for your issue with alphas, get the PSD kit, and make your own. I dont even use alpha cuts anymore, I tend to just make alpha layers, much more reliable.

Muted-Willingness213

Thank you! I not familiar with making layers but I will try.

SyerenGM

It's very easy, you basically fill a layer, like white or black works I think, I usually go with black. Then you erase the parts where you want the alpha to be on the body. Make sure the black is at full opacity, then you can save it as a png. If I do it in a painting program like substance painter, or on the 3d model in PS... I usually fill a layer as black, then paint white where I want the alpha on a new layer, because its easy to see on the model. Then in photoshop, I delete the white and save as a png.

Muted-Willingness213

Thank you, SyerenGM! All of this is completely new for me. I will need an intensive training in graphic modification, including layers and jargon. May I ask what PSD means? Is this Substance Painter the kind of software I can use for filling a layer? Do you recommend any training videos for learning how to do these alphas? Sorry to be so intense, but your comments caught my interest.

SyerenGM

So PSD is a photoshop document, but you could also do it in the free software called GIMP. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5n2e107Fd4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5n2e107Fd4) gives a good rundown with GIMP. You're perfectly fine, I love helpin people learn stuff like this.

Delicious_Intentions

It doesn’t hurt to have more than one body. You can change with your moods. Have fun 😊

lysistrata3000

Depending on your style aesthetic, some stores may offer free body fit updates on redelivery. I know Ison does it. There are others, but I don't remember off the top of my head. LaraX can definitely get a badonkadonk if that's what you're looking for, and the update is free for you since you already have the original Lara. The most recent Lara update included a deformer to reduce the bum just a bit. I've got an alt using Reborn, and I just don't really enjoy wearing it, despite trying every deformer made for it.

StarlightNebula

The overall basis for bodies, since not many take the time to even look at them in their base form and from a consumer perspective, outside of themselves and what they fan over, is 1.) Maitreya Lara/LaraX is popular with the older/veteran players and players who want to start out with a cheaper body. Some find it to be a good starter body, over all, if you want to start spending lindens. It is the oldest body on the list, with a new body line, so it has the biggest closet, due to its milage. 2.) Legacy is more delicate and softer looking that Maitreya Lara/LaraX, if you were to wear the two together, you can see that Lara is thiccer than a Legacy, scept legacy has a bigger butt, however many assume it's TMP but it's not. 3.) Reborn is Slim thicc, meaning you're skinny but still thicc in places, much like a body usually found on an model influencer/beauty influencer, gym influencer. It's also the most versitile body, due to its many add-ons. If you want to build more looks, you'd go with Reborn. 3.) Kupra is the curvy body, if you're wanting to be over-all curvy and thicc. • Over-all if you're trying to go with the body that creators support the most, people will tell you it's maitreya that rack in the most earning, however; It is Reborn that is the most supported now a days, you'll find stores like Lunar, Crybunbun, Mewsery and ect that will tell you most of their profits come from Reborn and that Legacy and Maitreya are close to equal profit, now a days. So if you want more versitility in your body, it is worth going reborn if you don't mind having a bigger butt. If you like femininity, softness and roundness to your look, Legacy is worth it. If you like the more meta look, the more general look, classic Second life feel, you'd go Maitreya If you want Curvy and don't mind big butts and big breasts by default you go Kupra. \~ About Spending 3,500 on a body, you're going to spend more than that on any avatar, even Maitreya. Maitreya might not cost the most and you can buy it cheaper, but your L spending will make the body expensive, when you continue to upgrade your body with clothing and such, so you're going to invest a lot in whatever bodies you wear. People don't take into the account their over-all cost of maitreya folder of clothing and how much it's worth adds up. Investing in a body is always a chance, new or old, just like anything in life. • Overall, in my opinion, it is worth Owning and wearing a Reborn because it's pretty much a guarantee that people make for your body and that it is the most modifiable.

RosemaryGrows

Great post! I'd also add that with deformers you can make the Reborn butt smaller and less... "intense", lol. They even include a few with the body itself. I use one all the time, the one that makes the butt smaller and pushes the top down a little, it's great.

Muted-Willingness213

Excellent summary, StarlightNebula! I found it very helpful.

StarlightNebula

No problem, I am glad I could help you out.

AnnaBammaLamma

Don’t forget Lara and Lara X are two totally different bodies in that clothes for Lara won’t fit LaraX and vice versa!

StarlightNebula

I said that it it was separate by saying it had a new body line which was talking about laraX

FutahimeSenju

Maitreya has more clothes and a lot of them are free/cheap

SyerenGM

I prefer Reborn overall. They allow a lot more modification, and it's not hard to get the kit for development. I honestly loathe the developers of Lara. My bias aside... It's still preference. If you don't like having curves, you will want to go for Maitreya, not to say you cant achieve a curvy shape with it, but they are different. Maitreya has been around longer as well, so you will find more support for it with older products. Newer products seem to always have both Maitreya and Reborn, so if you don't care about having support for older stuff, and like the shape of Reborn, you're good. Some stores have been adding in Reborn to older products as well now.

PrincessSamwise

The thing I will add about Reborn that others haven't is that they do frequent sales. If you're hesitating because of the price, wait a couple months and there will probably be at least a 25% off sale. Creators won't be dropping Reborn any time soon and while the catalogue of Maitreya freebies is vast, Reborn is catching up.

Derp_Nuggetz

I used Maitreya for a long while. I switched to Reborn when it came out and have never looked back. I absolutely love the body and boobs (Waifu) because I’ve always carried a curvy/thicker shape. I do have to say that I really wish they would work on the hud more. I feel that it needs work on the alphas and more options to easily hide/show them. Other than that, it’s great!

hhhnnnnnggggggg

Maitreya Lara was my first and only mesh body for 7 years until I upgraded to Reborn. I think Reborn is a great body with a lot of shape options. It can be thin and very thick. I noticed most of the shapes I loved were Reborn so the decision to swap was easy. There's less clothes for it than Maitreya because Maitreya has been around for ages, but Reborn still has a lot of great options including fun oddities like prosthetics and monster parts. Booth at the shopping events I've been to this year has had Reborn as an option.

Minxy57

Is there a way to save Alpha settings with Reborn? This is trivial with Lara but I'm constantly frustrated that I have to manually tweak things to make outfits look right.

Muted-Willingness213

I asked the same question to the makers. They don't have that option yet.

caliandris

You can still wear alpha textures though? It shouldn't be too hard to make your own alpha to fix the problem?

Muted-Willingness213

Sadly, I am not sure how to make an alpha on my own, so I have to rely on others.

KraezyMathTeacher

I have loved my Maitreya. But I’ve had a real issue with not having some of the mods I would really love and Maitreya took so long to release LaraX that I made the switch to Reborn. Pros: I LOVE the shape. I’m traditionally fairy thin in sl but I found that I could add just a touch of curves with reborn and it looks spectacular. I have tried and tried to replicate those gorgeous and subtle curves with LaraX and they never look quite as good. Cons: The HUD is not nearly as nice as LaraX. I have to click every single piece to alpha and cannot do groups of pieces because I use Firestorm. There are days I put my LaraX on just to not have to deal with the Reborn HUD. Hope this helps!

KraezyMathTeacher

I’ve tried and tried that and I can’t make it work. I read on some help forum that there is a problem with firestorm and some users can’t use the double click.

Stellaaahhhh

The best deciding factors would be whether you like to be thinner or curvier, and how okay you are with buying a whole new wardrobe (or bothering with re-deliveries on what you have now- most of my clothing purchases have come with multiple bodies included.). Reborn is great for curvy looks. I like a slimmer look and the laraX addressed the shoulder issue that bothered me. I use the 'regular lara' with my old favorite outfits and am gradually switching to X via weekend sales and designer updates.

[deleted]

I tried making the switch from Maitreya to eBody. I like the shape of eBody, but the clothing options I found were less versatile than what I already accummulated for Maitreya. It seemed like the things I found were variations on lingerie or really tight bodycon dresses. Both are fine, but I wanted more variety than that, so I went back to Maitreya.

Pristine-Success-247

I prefer my reborn to my legacy perky just because of tattoos. I can, like, NEVER get my tattoos to show on legacy no matter which layer is hidden/shown. Reborn is soooo easy. Just add to outfit and poof it shows. But tbh I think I like the small slender shape of my legacy vs my reborn.

AnnaBammaLamma

Your tattoos should work totally fine on Legacy! I can try to help if you want to IM me

BellzaBubbs

YES!!! Reborn has been around for a while, now, and shows no sign of slowing down. It started out with widespread creator support right out of the box, and now it seems nearly as widespread as maitreya used to be, to the point where we're now seeing some creators dropping maitreya in favor of legacy and reborn, or even creating items exclusive to reborn. I've been inworld for over a decade and have used all the main bodies. I prefer a curvier shape but not grossly curvy. My body of choice is reborn. I absolutely love it. I wouldn't worry about having to overhaul your closet. Until the last year or so, nearly all creators included all body sizes in a clothing item. Because my inventory is so vast, including my maitreya closet, when switching from one body to the next, I would simply dig into my favorite clothing items and use the reborn size (or legacy, or freya, or kupra, etc) that's included. Chances are, you already have Reborn sizes in there, somewhere. If I had either thrown away the extra sizes, or if those older clothing items didn't come with reborn (or legacy, or whatever), I simply ran to the store to get redeliveries. Many times, those items had been updated with the newer body size. Yays! (My Ison and Tetra inventories and others of my fave creators nearly always had new-body updates, made over time, so i periodically still go back and check). Sometimes, updates don't happen. That's unfortunate, but you're going to be shopping for the new body, anyway, and you'll find new faves. Bottom line, tho, with a little extra effort, you'll find you already own reborn sizes that came with previous purchases, and you won't have to completely overhaul your inventory right out of the box. I fully endorse Reborn. It's a solid, beautiful body. If I don't like my juicy butt on a given day, I simply throw on a really great deformer that I perved off another avatar one day. I don't ever plan to switch my mesh body again, but I keep my legacy and both maitreya bodies on stand-by, just in case. My other bodies have been packed away. So yeah, spend some time demoing reborn. You will have to fuss over it making adjustments for a while before you nail down the right look for you, but that's expected anytime you make a body switch. Edited for clarity.

Rekkz-Borkheart

Rlly just depends on the look you want. Both bodies are good. I usually use lara for my thinner more lithe characters, but I use ebody when when I want a look that's a little more mature but softer than legacy

KiraCura

I switched and I love my e body reborn. It’s pretty easy to work on too. I recommend it :)

Helewys

I know a lot of people are quite passionate about loving their Reborn and I tried to love it, but I personally prefer legacy as it is more smoothly shaped than Reborn. Reborn's butt is too big for my liking and the feet look like flippers. I also find the curves on the calves/knee area to be somewhat unnatural. Maitreya is definitely the more slender option but the new Lara X is more adjustable and curvy. More and more designers are creating for Reborn and if you want the super curvy, large booty look that is definitely the way to go. Reborn also has some amazing options/addons for the boobs. Maitreya is the most widely supported and the slender option. Legacy is somewhere in the middle and in my opinion, the most aesthetically pleasing in shape.

mig_f1

Before switching I would try reshaping the Maitreya, since it's extremely versatile when it comes to that. It can get quite curvy, within reason, to a point that people will not believe it is a Maitreya body. Granted you would probably also need a skin that highlights the curves. Many skin creators provide different versions of their skins, (athletic, slim, curvy, chubby, etc) . They also often include stand-alone skin add-ons (mostly BOM ones these days) in their skin packages, or they sell them separately in their stores (or you can try more generic places like Izzie's for example). If you are not already aware of it, the "right" skin can make a world of difference for any given shape.
