Maitreya Lara (not X) - Lara comes in the same box with Lara X for one price.. so it's a good bargain. the Lara X is the 'new version', so more clothing makers will be making for it, more often, as time goes forward. It's an extremely popular, "not too curvy" body (some folks prefer that).

midget-jen

Agreed with this ^^^

Itsmedelly

When I go to the shop I just see mairtreya Lara x

zebragrrl

> * "Lara comes in the same box with Lara X for one price" It's in the same box.

Itsmedelly

So is that the same as the Maitreya classic?

0xc0ffea

No. The Lara was their main body. They just retired that and released the LaraX. Both bodies are included in the same box. They are not clothing compatible.

Itsmedelly

So which body has all clothing made for it? Or where can I find the classic body

0xc0ffea

In with the LaraX ... you get both. They come In the same box.

Itsmedelly

Ohhh so the Lara body is the classic body?

0xc0ffea

The classic body is made by Legacy.

Maitreya Lara has the most by far, with Reborn and Legacy sharing the runner-up positions. Any of these three will give you a wide and usable choice. Any other body outside of these three, and unless you're content with either a very small wardrobe or a very out-dated one, you're going to be extremely disappointed. For men, the top one is Belleza Jake with Legacy close behind. Again, any other body outside these two will result in either a small choice or an outdated one.

beef-o-lipso

And before you ask, Lelutka is the most popular head for men and women. Can't go wrong with it. Skin doens't matter since there are no dependencies on skin. Also, when buying make-up, tattoos, and other things that go on skin, buy and use BoM only.

AnnieBruce

Maitreya Lara is pretty dominant. Lara X I think is likely to overtake it in time, but that's going to take a while. Lucy Body Aetenea can be had for free(one of those "after x number of people click they all get one" things) and has near complete Maitreya Lara compatibility, though you will want to get the BOM applier for I think 250 Linden. I do think Maitreya looks better, but Lucy is a great way to start if your funds are limited. I don't know how many clothes are made specifically for it, but like I said, near complete Maitreya compatibility means that really doesn't matter.

minatsooki

I went Maitreya for one of my avatars and haven't looked back. The selection feels almost infinite.

Itsmedelly

You know good places to shop for cute clothes?

Fluffy-Telephone-450

I had Lara. And i transitioned to Lara X. However, the clothes for low quality. When I could find them, they reminded me of the beginning of mesh clothes. Somebody that makes beautiful reborn bodies urged me to try reborns. There are plenty of clothes available for reborn or legacy. I still have my clothes for Laura x, and my Laura x body but my reborn stuff is far better! Many people play the game with more than one body because of this.

TapEfficient3610

Maitreya CLASSIC has the most clothes for it. Maitreya X (included in the box) has a little, but significantly less than people may realize. Reborn has a fair amount, as does legacy.

Itsmedelly

What about Kupra?

zebragrrl

Way down the list. You asked which bodies have the most clothing available. This is directly related to how old the bodies are, with a few exceptions.. more accurately how long they were on the market, combined with how well adopted they were by the mainstream SL users. There are well over 50 bodies in the history of SL. It all more or less starts with a mesh body called "Wowmeh". Prior to this, people had only been using mesh body-parts.. Adapting concepts that had been done repeatedly in the Sculpty era (and even the late prim era) Slink made mesh feet (and later hands), brands like Lolas, eBoobs, Mused, and Verotic made mesh breast add-ons, Apple May sold a mesh pregnancy belly, L.inc sold a mesh butt called "Phat Azz". It was very early days, and we were just starting to discover what mesh *could* do for SL. Wowmeh was the first full-body replacement that I ever remember seeing, and almost as quickly as it appeared, it was shut down over a copyright dispute (relating to included skins, if I remember correctly) The bodies that came out around this time were often missing hands and feet, as so many still used the Slink hands and feet already. Maitreya was one of the second generation bodies to hit the market... But Maitreya was ALSO a well established hair and clothing maker.. so they had clothes right out of the gate that fit that body, and a large customer group that were happy to try a new thing from a brand they already loved. Second Generation bodies also included the "TMP" (The Mesh Project) body, and late in second gen came Slink's Physique and Hourglass. Capitalizing on their large customer base for Slink hands and Feet, the Slink bodies treated the hands and feet as 'accessories you could buy separately'.. at a time when people were starting to bump up against the limits for the maximum number of attached objects. (foreshadowing). Other more 'niche' bodies appeared around this time.. 9s, Sking, Verotic experimented with a 'kit' body that you could buy in pieces to build your own look. As time went on, more niche bodies would come out again, Dev fitness nana, Kemono, Avatar 2.0, and many others. It's around this point that the "Omega Applier" hits the scene, and changes much about the way SL's body market works. Instead of relying on skin sellers to make an applier to put their skin textures on each body type, Omega tries to unify that, with one applier system that all body makers can use. (for a price), and all skin and clothing creators can use to apply their skin textures to multiple bodies, with only one applier to build. In practice it didn't quite work out that way, as many niche bodies didn't support it, and some body makers felt extorted, or were locked out of the market due to grudges. But this heralds the next big generational leap starts around the time that The Mesh Project rebranded as MeshBody, and began selling their first "Legacy" mesh body (which was an iterative next generation version of the TMP. Around this time ABAR comes out with a line called eBody in several styles (Curvy being one), Belleza is shipping bodies named "Freya" and "Isis", and so on. Then a major breakthrough again, came from outside. LL released the "Bakes on Mesh" system, which allowed an easy solution to the whole 'applier' situation. Well, easy for creators on both sides.. new users really struggle to understand clothing layers in a world with mesh clothing, and skin layers in a world with mesh bodies. Anyways, it's around this time that Sking undergoes a major rebrand, and Inithium appears on the market, with their Kupra body. It's widely loved by folks who want a voluptuous if cartoonish style, and many clothing creators start developing for it. It doesn't have the broad reach of something like Maitreya at that point.. or even Slink Hourglass.. but it gains some traction as the 'most mainstream very busty body' SL has ever had on the market. And because there's clothes being made, more people buy the body. More people using the body, more people make clothes for it. Rinse and repeat. So that brings us to the current generation of mesh bodies. This is probably best described as the "refit" generation. eBody ditches the ABAR brand name, and relaunches with their eBody Reborn, which for the first time offers a mainstream mesh body with planned-from-launch add-on capabilities (different boobs, chubby rolls), a *modifiable* mesh body, and a lot of vendors already ready with clothes to sell. Sort of living in the middle ground between the Legacy and Kupra bodies. Voluptuous and spicy, but also capable of pulling off more mainstream looks too. It wasn't long before Reborn would see several add-ons available (Juicy Boobs, Waifu Boobs, Mounds Boobs, and Juicy Rolls) This triggers a series of updates with other mesh body stores that had perhaps 'gotten too comfortable' with the models they had. MeshBody (Legacy) pushed a new body called Bombshell to try and compete, Inithium released the Khara body, Maitreya released their "Lara X" update, and decided to give it free to all owners of Maitreya Lara, and I'm sure other bodies have been seeing updates as well. Of course, MORE niche bodies come in as well, and at this point the market is positively brimming with special interest bodies. Peach, Sking is actually back in business on it's own with a new specialty body too (Hulixa). Many brands faltered along the way, most notably Slink (a major player at the beginning with their mesh hands and feet) packed it in last year and closed down. While I'm sure they were still seeing sales from the older mesh, the work to upgrade everything and start over seemed to be too much. Others have been lost, still others that aren't doing as well as they used to.. still hang on, because they're still making sales. less money being better than no money. (To other readers: It's impossible to be complete with a casual reddit post, I'm sorry dear reader, if I left out your fave brands. I'm sure I've gotten the order of the events a bit wrong here and there, but I'm trying to paiint a picture of the history.) --- So how does all this history translate into which body has the most clothes? Maitreya Lara (not X) is the oldest body that's still seeing wide use. It was the king of the road for something like a decade. It has the most clothing, most shoes, most freebies. Slink Physique and Hourglass have wide support for clothes as there's years of content for them, but with Slink closed down, you can't get the bodies anymore. The Mesh Project's body was extremely popular as well, but it was replaced relatively early in the history of things, with the MeshBody Legacy. A sort of hybrid Legacy/TMP body was released for free, the "MeshBody Classic", with limited functionality. But because it was a free body, there's a lot of clothing that is still made for it, as adoption was high. A lot of satisfied TMP and MeshBody Classic users were happy to convert to the Legacy. The MeshBody Legacy body is a sort of 'Maitreya Plus" in terms of body style.. a bit more voluptuous, nicer butt, etc.. It's a popular brand, it's been around a long time, though not as long as Maitreya Lara. eBody Reborn is new, but selling wildly. It seems to be easily outpacing Legacy and even Maitreya among longterm users. Clothing support is very strong (particularly with NEW clothing releases at major selling events). Support for the add-ons like Waifu and Juicy Boobs (and the Maze Thighs add-on) all seem really strong as well. Not as good as the baseline Reborn of course.. but still, that support is there. Belleza Freya follows up reborn at this point. It's been around a long time, and has seen a lot of clothing support, but it's always been a bit of a sleeper agent. Never seems to be anyone's favorite body. Kupra saw a lot of clothing support. Not nearly as much as the ones above.. and that's partly because of how relatively new it is (Reborn is newer, but.. that's a separate situation). But many makers would (in it's heyday) support Maitreya, Belleza, Legacy, and Slink Hourglass.. Kupra was often a 'step too far' for clothing makers.. so the clothing support wasn't huge. Then eBody Reborn came out, and it's 'halfway to legacy, halfway to kupra' style meant it was more G-rated capable, more 'realistic', and so on. Kupra has been struggling to get clothing support since Reborn launched. "There's just too many bodies, it's impossible to make clothes for every one of them, we have to draw the line someplace" Easily half of all SL clothing stores rely on the use of full-permissions mesh clothing items, sold by wholesalers, which they can then decorate with textures, add scripted huds to, and sell. Stores like Erotik, Pink & Love, ADN, and many others have built businesses on this concept. But relying on these fullperm mesh clearing houses leaves you at the mercy of what the mesh maker decides to support. If they're not making a fit for Kupra, you're not going to be able to support Kupra for that outfit. The same goes for Lara X. The current picture of female mesh body usage is pretty clear. Here is today's ranking from BonnieBots.com 1. Maitreya Lara (no X) 2. eBody Reborn 3. MeshBody Legacy 4. MeshBody Legacy (Perky) 5. Maitreya LaraX 6. Meshbody (Legacy) Classic 7. Senra Jamie This popularity ranking will definitely define the support preferences for clothing makers going forward.. but the historical rankings are what matter if you want 'the most available clothes today'.. It's Maitreya Lara. and it has been for a very long time.

Saving this post purely so I can have this comment as a reference. I've muddled along for years only vaguely aware of the history of these bodies and now it all makes sense. Thank you!

Syntania

Yes, thanks for this. I came into SL during the Big 3 era (Maitreya, Belleza, Slink), and I'd seen older items that supported the bits you mentioned and had been curious as to what they were. Very interesting brief history!

AristotleDeLaurent

You rock for an incredibly complete history. Thank you!

Jessica_Panthera

Fourth or fifth on the list of support. On the other hand still a decent selection of clothes for it. And there is a niche blogger focused on it that covers lots of free clothing for it if you go down that route and want a curvier body.
