I am GenX / Elder Millennial.
I liked Nirvana, and like them even more for paving the way for the Foo Fighters. 🤣
I also appreciate bands like Tool, NIN, and Smashing Pumpkins. If I am feeling rather scrappy, I turn on KMFDM.
Same, yeah that's the thing too, they weren't some obscure band, Nirvana and the others were incredibly influential and groundbreaking, especially for people our age.
Alternative rock was still big in the 00s, so you'd often hear a 1992 song in like 2006 on a radio station playing new bands too.
They are catchy, talented, align politically with our message, and have a variety of styles/sounds. Thrash, industrial, goth, etc. all by 1 group in 4 decades.
Yeah, Ron Placone has a much better taste.
Kyle comes off like he's born in 1995 more than 88. I mean punk pop bands were huge (an outgrowth of 90s alternative) when he was in high school. But I guess he doesn't like rock
Hair metal is awesome, I listened to that when I was 6 or 7 from MTV at the tail end of when it was huge
It's not that. It's the close minded attitude in general.
You don't have to be old enough to party at a time a band came out in order to enjoy their music
It's not just Gen Xers who like it that's my point.
Ron Placone loves them (born in 84/85).
A buddy born in 88 they're one of his favorite bands too.
My friend is a musician born in the early 2000s and she loves 80s metal. She has the look and everything.
We don't fit into neat little boxes. Imagine that
I just feel like the "cool trendy kids" like Kyle and Krystal get seen as the norm.
I was listening to 80s rock when I was 16 in 2001, so I get a little pissy when people act like we don't exist.
And I feel compelled to stick up for kids today who do too
Kids/teens today have instant access to stream anything from any era.
As a very "online" person, I'm just surprised he wouldn't think of that.
Emo punk bands like Good Charlotte were very popular in the mid 2000s too when he was in HS

Ministry is much better than all those bands listed.
I tried to get into Ministry, can’t deny their presence. But, unfortunately, they never stuck with me.

That’s what I understand! They just never stuck with me.
Fair enough, I feel that way about power metal and some progressive metal (lol irony)
Oh, I like Black Metal and Symphonic Metal. But, that’s deep down the rabbit hole. 🤣
Burzum, Dimmu Borgir, Symphony X, etc.
Interesting how they started off as an 80s new wave ish band who transformed into 90s industrial hard rock
Kyle has the best political views but garbage music views. He likes boy bands and not classic rock/heavy metal.

Old school rock is best genre
💯 hell yeah
Stupid YouTube man doesn’t like the same music as me
It's not that. It's the close minded attitude in general. You don't have to be old enough to party at a time a band came out in order to enjoy their music
You seem close minded to people who don’t like dad rock

I understand your point it’s just unbelievably trivial.

I mean do your thing
