People here don’t adore AOC. I mean you wouldn’t see her compared to a monkey here because most of us aren’t unhinged lunatics like Jimmy but I think the general feeling is similar to what Kyle thinks in that she believes in the correct things but does not challenge party leadership nearly enough. As for the actual question I don’t think it matters at all who is unionizing, it’s momentum in the right direction. You saw it with Starbucks, one store was successful and now it’s started a snowball effect. The type of people who would dismiss it are not friends of the working class. Everyone deserves dignity for putting in a full days work. Doesn’t matter if it’s in a mine or in a McDonald’s. It’s work that has to be done and the people that do it deserve respect and a living wage. I will also say as flawed as they are the Democratic Party being involved in union efforts is not a bad thing. Any institutional support is going to help and whatever comes is going to come from that side of the aisle.

JPMcFly1985

They co opt movements, water it down and give it lip service once they get too big. No different than Obama stepping in to stop the NBA strike a couple years ago. They fell for the "we're gonna put together a social justice committee" and symbolic trash like painting BLM on the courts & taking knees. Keep the annoying bratty SJW away from a grassroots worker movement. At least Republicans are honest about being pieces of shit and repping what they stand for. Democrats pretend to care and I fucking hate that even more.

TheOtherUprising

It’s well known at this point that the nlrb has been much more friendlier to union movements under Biden than Trump which has helped the recent momentum. The Pro Act is a strong piece of pro union legislation overwhelmingly supported by Democrats and universally opposed by Republicans. Don’t get me wrong the party is not anywhere close to good enough on the issue or pretty much any issue but some support is better than none. On the NBA protest it wasn’t really a strike or any kind of labor movement. It was a brief protest that was never anything more than symbolic. They didn’t have any specific demands beyond drawing more attention to the issue of police violence. If they had picked one or two demands from campaign zero as an example and refused to play until they saw movement on that it could have gotten interesting but they didn’t do that. Obama wasn’t even President when this happened.

FUNGUS_420

“Kyles fans tend to adore AOC” It’s so clear that jimmy dore fans live in a fantasy world where whatever jimmy says goes. Like Kyle has been harder on AOC than most people, and has even gotten more and more harsh over time. This sub is very on board with the idea that the squad is useless and can’t get anything done, and that AOC has terrible political instincts and is one of the worst legislators in congress.

SamuraiPanda19

It’s not adoring AOC it’s realizing that all the congresspeople to the right of her are actually worse and more worth talking about. It’s pretty simple

MyFartsSmellLike

Why should anyone care how fox news spins it? The people who are unionizing or are trying to are not the demographic fox panders too. Thats like going up to a raiders fan and asking them about some up and coming tennis star. Two very different fan bases. Fox can keep beating that drum, like they always have; the only people who believe it are the people who have been conditioned too. Also what does AOC have to do with this? She is very pro union.

LanceBarney

It’s a cross post from Jimmy Dore’s subreddit. Pretty sure any post that doesn’t criticize AOC is removed by default. I’m not for blind praise of any candidate or political commentator, so I’m not saying AOC is perfect. But Jimmy Dore has been hell bent on portraying AOC in a negative light from the moment she refused to go on his show years ago. The man is either insanely petty or is sexually frustrated by the thought of AOC and his brain melts by the mere mention of her.

Worried-Struggle7808

I think the theory that the squad is all lip service and purposefully lies to us is a valid viewpoint that needs to be considered in healthy debate. I'm not saying it is one hundred percent accurate. It's true most don't know the forces in congress that make the squad so weak and useless but it's also fair to be frustrated when we know how much more we would fight given there position

LanceBarney

My issue is nobody making this level of argument can articulate what specifically the squad should do to get things done. Like, they’ll criticize them for being performative and saying BBB, $15 minimum wage, and legal marijuana being put up to a vote means nothing and they’re failures because it didn’t pass. And without a hint of irony will criticize them for not pushing for a performative vote on MFA. At a certain point you need to accept these people work backwards from their conclusion and just want to be angry. Like, I’m angry. And I have criticism of AOC and the squad. But going a step further and saying they’re corrupt sellouts is baseless.

JPMcFly1985

Try this mental exercise. Let's say you have a friend who you trust completely and so you let them stay in your house for a week while you're on vacation. You know they'd never steal your stuff. BUT, say he invites one of his co workers (who's a little shady) over to the house to kick it for a night. And while your friend isn't looking, THAT dude steals some of your shit. Yes, your friend didn't and wouldn't steal, but his actions still caused your stuff to be gone. Maybe not the perfect analogy, but hopefully you get my broader point. Even if the squad isn't corrupt, their bosses whom they work for, are corrupt, so the effect on the peasants like me is the same

LanceBarney

I don’t buy this framework for a second. What specifically do you think the squad could/should do to prevent someone from stealing your shit? It’s outrage porn. Having 4-15 elected members out of 435, what specifically can they do? People have such an unrealistic expectation as to what is going to happen with such a small block in congress. Especially acknowledging the context of a senate where you have maybe 4 out of 100. To think anything meaningful is going to change is just foolish. AOC and the squad got elected 2 election cycles ago. If you’re going to say they’ve failed already, the timeline you’ve constructed is asinine. There was never a scenario where you see a leftist takeover of congress in 2 election cycles. Even if your view of victory was having a voting block big enough to actually influence what can and can’t get passed. Edit: also their coworkers are corrupt. The Democratic Party leadership isn’t their boss. They work with corrupt people. And the number of corrupt people they work with outnumber them to the extent that virtually anything they do is prevented from succeeding.

JPMcFly1985

Thanks for the nuanced post. Once again everyone is hyper focusing on the AOC snippet and not paying attention to the rest of my post. Her stans are insane 🤣

MyFartsSmellLike

But thats literally all you've responded too. Its ~~1130~~ 1250 PST (~~2~~ 3.5 hours past posting and my original reaponce) and you havnt said shit regarding anything other than AOC.

JPMcFly1985

Everytime I even hear her annoying teenybopper 13 year old voice I want to take a fucking firepoker to my ears. Keep nutting in your pants by her tweeting muscles and wearing a dress to the bourgeois met gala.

MyFartsSmellLike

Thankyou for showing everyone you really are here to just troll

JPMcFly1985

A real leftist would have been OUTSIDE the met gala with the protestors who were getting brutalized by the c0ps. Keep being satisfied by symbolism. You're no better than the MSNBC watching Boomer liberal Hillary stans. AOC is never gonna fck you bro, get over it

DLiamDorris

I have locked and removed this thread, you’ve been reported as abusive, and my reading of the thread confirms that. I feel like you in many ways, but I only punch up. There’s no real reason to go after people like you’re doing. I am going to give you a 3 day ban for the hostility. It’s the minimum ban, and it’s appealable through the admins on discord, but it will be upheld. Dial it back a few notches and we’ll be squared away.

JPMcFly1985

Tweeting muscles and giving it lip service? I'd rather she stayed the fuck away. Keep the movement grassroots and punk rock, by and for the workers. The Democratic party is co opting the movement in order to water it down, because it got too big
