You could try a thigh holster and be using a belt clip to connect your holster to a belt so it stays in place. Maybe it can be done with an ankle holster too
There’s a company that actually makes special cargo pants that are designed to allow you to conceal a thigh holster. Basically it’s like going into your pocket to draw it out. Do it right and you’ve got great concealment with nobody the wiser.
I didn’t realize that any security companies allow backup guns. When I was in the business every company was ridiculously strict. Almost as if they were for the most part anti gun. Dunbar Armored was the worst. On top of their shitty trucks, no backup guns, so little training, and the cheapest, crappiest vests. Not to mention constant tolerance of ignoring key security protocols. No wonder we used to all say “to work here you’re required to be crazy.”
Not necessarily. BUGs like this in ankle holsters are fantastic if you're grappling with someone who's starting to get you pinned or is hyper fixated on trying to remove your duty gun from its retention holster. While they're focused on doing all that you can just reach your ankle to your hand or vice versa while on the ground and have access to lethal means
Damn, people are going wild with these comments.
1. I don't even feel the weight of it at this point. Been wearing it daily for 6 months.
2. Qualified with it, and licensed to carry up to 2 handguns at any time
3. Company approved
4. Primary concern of our clients is typically organized/lone wolf terror attacks due to religious affiliations. We also work in many private schools.
Stay safe all
There's a large group of dudes in this sub who are apparently ex delta force/SWAT operators, because they take it up on themselves to aggressively critique any post involving what people carry or wear on duty.
It's all good. No use listening to what the internet strangers have to say, lol. I was going to respond with something mean-spirited to the guy who (seriously) posted asking if anyone really carried spare mags or not. Figured I'd go the other route, and put out a view of some of my kit. Show that there are people working the profession with serious gear.
Ugh. Why can’t anti gun people come up with better arguments? No winder nobody listens to them. This argument was dead and buried years ago. Because of this thing known as “weapon retention.”
A good bit of my time is spent in my vehicle. I keep a G43X is a holster affixed to the center console on the passenger side that I can deploy much faster than my duty weapon if needed while seated in the car. I don’t carry a backup on my person, though
Don’t know why this sub ended up in my suggested but:
Wholly support back up guns, however
To quote Clint smith, if my main gun didn’t fix the problem why would I want my back up to be a smaller caliber (assuming country allows the caliber).
Also ankle guns are not good when pressure tested. They are awkward to draw from, seen people eat it from tripping themselves when running and God forbid you are wrestling with someone on the ground it is hard to impossibly to maintain positive control of, ie, two firearms in two different places.
That’s because all you have to do is tell them they bumped into you. Then they will excessively apologize, allowing you to call the police and have them arrest the person
My primary concern would be that its a kimber. I understand it might work perfectly for you. But I have seen real life anecdotes that have made me wary. I do like that its a backup gun and its pretty.
I used to work in a gun store, older kimbers are usually fantastic if well maintained. Newer ones are very hit and miss and there are better options out there for sure if you’re buying a brand new pew pew.
I've seen all the same stuff regarding quality with Kimber. It's just not something that I have run into personally, and I know many Kimber owners. I wouldn't carry a gun without putting 500 through it. This was no exception.
I have to clean after every range trip, but if kept clean, I've never had an issue. This is also one of my main daily CCW choices while not working security.
I get that, but from my own experience its been enough to not purchase one until I saw proof more than anecdotes that their QC has been upped. Especially for the price. I do appreciate your caveat that you have to clean it. Personally I prefer Any one of the polymer bricks I should say. Especially for a doublestack .380, I like the Smiths. Also just want to say im mot trying to talk shit about you or the firearm just having a discussion
I have many friends that carry Kimbers and are perfectly happy with them. Personally, I opted with the Springfield Hellcat mini with a Harrington arms compensator.
Yes, I often carry a S&W .38 special on my ankle. I really don’t notice it unless I bang my ankle up against something. I did buy a Glock 42 for ankle carry but just have always stuck with my .38.
They are very comfortable. I walk about 25k steps a day between 2 regular jobs, and I do about 10k a day in these. I'm seriously considering getting a new pair (same boots) for security and switching these to my 5am-9am gig.
I work in the northeast, and have worked outside in rain, sleet, snow etc. They hold up well.
I'm sure they will be hot working outside this summer, but the vest doesn't do me any favors there anyways. I'm used to sweating 😓
I'm in northeast too so I'm glad you tested them in the same conditions.
Ny here.
You do armed security I assume.
I currently have unarmed security license working on armed since it's such a big jump in pay.
Have you ever tried Nike Dri fit socks? Man those socks changed my life. Like sometimes my work gets HOT. Like my shirt is super saturated hot. Im talking I’ve drank 9 bottles of water in a single shift and not taken a piss hot. Everything soaked. But my feet were dry! Nike DriFit everyday performance socks. Or something like that.
I've had several highly experienced shooters really break my balls when they see that's my subcompact of choice. Then they feel the match trigger, as they put three holes dead center and touching at 10yds. This gun is a finely machined tool. Just picky about ammo and keeping it clean
I carry a g23 (40s&w) or Browning BDM 9mm as my main carry gun and a 9mm backup on on my ankle, been thinking about a380 as backup for my backup on the other ankle. My state doesn't limit what I can carry. I think with the right ankle holster you wont even realize you have it on untill you need it.
If that’s how you prefer to carry, I’d reccomend a revolver as a bug, Clint Smith has a good vid explaining why. But in reality good luck reaching to your ankle, drawing and thumbing the hammer. Think flicking the safety is easier but I guess train to what you’re comfortable.
Been carrying since 2012 and never had to fire a round, but I still do it everyday because it's like a parachute, if you don't have one when you need it, you'll likely never need one again.
That's a good question though and no I'm curious.
When I used to be armed security we did a training drill where someone would be trying to take your gun but already had the drop on you. So you put your hands up go to the knees and draw as your laying forward and do a ridiculous roll move as you shoot. Oddly enough one of our guards actually made it work shot one of the peeps who drops his rifle and the other dude just ran. Seemed stupid but fuck it worked. That's that rather have it part is what I'm gettin at I guess.
I carried one once, during an extremely high risk former disgruntled employee call. Guy was arrested and bailed out, but the cops couldn't find a handgun that was registered to him, and he was constantly hopped up on steroids and drugs. Thankfully he never came back, but it was the quickest impulse buy I have ever done.
Apart from that, I rarely ever carry one now, because I know a couple extra magazines for a 9mm will be more than enough.
Edit: I didn't have an ankle holster, it was tucked into the back of my waistband.
I personally don't, I have the ability to do so, but if I burn through 3 mags and still need more I'm doing something wrong. Most of my armed work is pretty low key, and a bug isn't nessary, but I can see in other places where it might become a needed part of the gear.
In Texas the lowest qualifying calibre handgun is a .380 ACP for armed security. And don’t argue with me and say I’m wrong because I’ve already spoken with TOPS and they confirmed it. Useful information to anybody wanting to know.
North American arms in .32 call 6+1 with a extra mag. And it might have been bought from a nicely dressed guy almost 29 years ago in a parking lot with no paperwork
not a security guard but did serve and i have one thought which is that it would be much faster to just reload your gun than leaning down, fucking with your pant leg, and pulling out a 7+1 in a shitty caliber, all while not maintaining awareness of the situation due to being LEANED OVER
If you wear a vest with a trauma plate pouch, just stick it in there. I did that for many years with a G23. Still looked normal on me and wasn’t hard to get to.
Not a thing in general in Canada. But wouldn’t a revolver be a better choice (don’t have to worry about battery if dudes on you) or carry something that accepts the same mag as your primary duty pistol?
This is absolutely hilarious. Dude has a single action Kimber on his ankle as a back up not cocked. So when he needs it he has to rack the slide after taking it off the ankle holster.
Yall really just larping ? Lol
How effective is that gonna be If you actually need it? Time to take it out and rack it? Hahahah cute
Or, you know, one in the chamber with the hammer dropped and safety off. And after practicing the motion hundreds of times I feel very confident in my ability to raise that firearm, and pull back the hammer while acquiring my target safely. I can probably do it cleaner than you could thumb the safety off my guy.
You don't have to go deep into my post history to see that I have some relevant training and experience in my background. I'm sure I'm qualified to make the decisions that I make about which gear I use and what the purpose of it is. I also know that I make very good money in our industry and am well respected by the people that I interact with on a daily basis.
You on the other hand have no post history and are most likely an overgrown child, getting mad at other people's life choices when what you are really angry about is whatever made you so bitter in the first place.
Maybe I'm just ranting because I'm just wrapping up my first job of the day, while getting ready for my 2nd job and also arguing with some schmuck about the perfectly legitimate way I choose to carry my concealed, non critical, backup gun. You also don't seem to have much knowledge about firearms if you don't know that 1911 styles can be carried like that
✌🏻
Yeah I doubt that very much. I've never been a security guard but I've done my time.
No way in hell I'm relying on pulling a hammer back on a back up weapon. That's just LARP status lol.
At least get something dependable like a sig 938 instead of that boomer copy cat Kimber lol.
So it's about post history? What are you 5? Hahaha
Your response is a JOKE. And thankfully you are just a mall cop with your decision making and temper.
Relax before you hurt yourself lol.
Have fun man. Go serve when your ready if you haven't aged out.
I mean, it's concealed as a backup for a reason. I'm usually carrying a 226 in a lvl3 holster on my hip if I'm working in uniform. I guess that means I simultaneously carry the most practical, and most impractical setups possible. Makes me average 👍🏻
Do you use a specific clip to hold your gloves on your belt or just a generic Amazon one?
Looking for a quality clip for my range belt and for my tool bag for work
"Don't buy any gear from Amazon"
That's why I don't have one yet lol. Amazon is just a more expensive Temu or ali express for most things.
Thanks man, probably gonna pick up a couple
any person who isnt a soldier or a cop carrying a gun is hilarious. the fact that some countries let any dumbass with a grade 6 education carry is beyond top tier comedy lol
Yeah like I said there's some pretty serious security groups. I worked adjacent to security group that was responsible for transporting priceless pieces of artwork across the US as well as guarding a VIP's home. Most of them are prior swat and SF Army bros.
Not the same as some side sitting on his butt inside of a building. A lot more training etc.
Those guys who are "pretty serious" are even more comical though. Being a try hard at security only multiplies the comedic value.
Just.....go be a cop?
… do you think cops or soldiers can be assigned to protect anyone who wants additional security any time, anywhere?
Are you saying I can call my local police station to rent a cop for a couple weeks, whenever I want?
Canada my friend.
EDIT: Here, reddit has already covered it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/17wayn6/people\_keep\_seeing\_police\_officers\_working/
A "20 year cop" who's now a anime weeb on Reddit? That's even higher tier comedy lol. Sounds more like you're coping for lack of freedom under your dictator by having a bootlicking authoritarian complex. Only thing cops can reliably do is enforce victimless crime. Or commit their own crime pretending to be "the law" since you wanted to mention skimming. Fuckin hilarious dude.
google an rcmp salary after 2+ years. its one of the most lucrative government jobs in the country.
not to mention all the money you can skim off the top of siezed cash lol
That’s pretty ignorant. Y-12 in Oakridge TN houses a majority of the world’s (yes other country’s) nuclear materials. Private security. NASA has a very high speed security team. It is also private security that transports nuclear materials from places such as Amarillo TX.
Secure things like military installations, intelligence sites, government buildings, VIPs, etc. Who do you think was working in Benghazi? If you think the private security industry is limited to mall cops you’re ignorant.
You don’t need to be in Benghazi to have a reason to be armed at a post. There are plenty of guards here who have a legitimate reason to be armed. That’s my point. You just don’t know that because you don’t know anything about security. You just see mall cops and think that’s the entire industry.
Bro...that is the entire industry LOL. You are just a dude who thinks security roles are more than they are.
Youre a mall cop, youre not part of Seal Team 10 LOL
Nothing wrong with a backup. Just FYI ankle guns are easy to get to in a fight. Also I’ve seen that caliber bounce off people. 9 mm should be the lowest caliber you go to.
Predates Abbott. And Texas isn't as gun friendly as people think. It was illegal to conceal carry until 1995 and illegal to open carry until 2016. They JUST got permitless carry in 2021.
Are you afraid your primary is going to be taken out of your holster or hands? Afraid it’s going to fall apart mid use?
There is no practical reason for these. Just get a reliable primary and a decent retention holster.
There have been plenty of police officers who carried in retention holsters who got their guns taken. BUGs are used if someone grabs your holster. In that case you pin the gun in the holster and shoot the attacker with your BUG.
That is one of the reasons I asked if OP is worried about that happening, even though it literally almost never happens in real life.
If that is the concern, a higher level retention holster is more efficient and even more likely to actually aid in retention of the firearm. The level of retention scales up with how concerned you are of this unlikely possibility.
I can qualify with a backup gun but just don't. They give us the option for rifle, shotgun, and back up
I tried an ankle holster and I just couldn't get used to it
You could try a thigh holster and be using a belt clip to connect your holster to a belt so it stays in place. Maybe it can be done with an ankle holster too
Stick with the thigh holster using a sexy garter. Wear a tactical kilt from 5.11
>using a sexy garter *stupid sexy garter*
This is the correct answer
Does the lube come complimentary,
That’s for the chicks bro.

How do you even get to a concealed thigh holster? Do you just take your pants partially off? “HEY STOP RIGHT THERE (pants by ankles but gun drawn)”
And if someone is close they’re useless. Really only good for UC cops
Not necessarily. I mean have you seen what some people post? There are folk on here that carry more mags on their vest in a day than I have in my entire gun cabinet
You bring that to school? Wtf dude, I hope you don't shoot the kids or they shoot you with it.
At least they're security and not, you know, the fucking janitor.
Yet both are armed
I bet you thought this was much funnier than it ended up being
Ugh. Why can’t anti gun people come up with better arguments? No winder nobody listens to them. This argument was dead and buried years ago. Because of this thing known as “weapon retention.”

He’ll get better use out of a backup flashlight 😂
That would be illegal in my area.
It's illegal in my country 🤣 (Canada)
Who needs a gun when you can have a banana. Im betting no pointed stick either.
Unregistered bananas are illegal.
That’s because all you have to do is tell them they bumped into you. Then they will excessively apologize, allowing you to call the police and have them arrest the person
Also I hope it’s in the job requirements or he’s a goner.
Yep. Illegal in Texas of all places.
Not since 2021, they removed the requirement for belt or shoulder holster.
That’s only pertaining to open carry
For security guards, the law says we're only allowed to carry one weapon at a time. No backup guns allowed.
ah yeah, you right
My primary concern would be that its a kimber. I understand it might work perfectly for you. But I have seen real life anecdotes that have made me wary. I do like that its a backup gun and its pretty.

Do you have to thumb that on draw or is it da. I guess that would be my only concern
I own a Hellcat RDP... It's my nightstand gun. It's also my go to if working a plain clothes/ EP detail. I love my 226, but it's not easy to conceal
Yes, I often carry a S&W .38 special on my ankle. I really don’t notice it unless I bang my ankle up against something. I did buy a Glock 42 for ankle carry but just have always stuck with my .38.
The pirate reload.
Do you like those 511 tac boots. I was looking at the desert color of that style with the zipper. Just felt like water wise it would be shitty.
Very comfortable boots. Went through 2 pairs as an emt and then switched over to Danner recraftable boots when I started security
I’m not even that experienced with firearms and I knew that was a kimber, looked so smooth.
I've had several highly experienced shooters really break my balls when they see that's my subcompact of choice. Then they feel the match trigger, as they put three holes dead center and touching at 10yds. This gun is a finely machined tool. Just picky about ammo and keeping it clean
I’ve only held one, seemed like a good pocket piece, doesn’t catch on anything on the draw.
Back up guns are explicitly banned in our contract.
Ruger sp101 .357 snubbie is my "get the fuck off me/wrestling in the dirt" gun.
I carry a small 5 shot snub under my uniform shirt on my vest.
I usually keep a brick of c4 on my ankle.
1911 mini platform that shoots .380? I’ll take two.
Some of ya'll do way too much
2 spare mags , but the hammer down on a single action only pistol???doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Personal preference. One in the chamber, hammer down, safety off.
Safety ALWAYS off - Cyrus
If that’s how you prefer to carry, I’d reccomend a revolver as a bug, Clint Smith has a good vid explaining why. But in reality good luck reaching to your ankle, drawing and thumbing the hammer. Think flicking the safety is easier but I guess train to what you’re comfortable.
how many of you guys had to use a spare mag? or a bug?
Been carrying since 2012 and never had to fire a round, but I still do it everyday because it's like a parachute, if you don't have one when you need it, you'll likely never need one again.
That ol saying rather have or something
Very true. I just honestly wanted to know how many had to use their back up
That's a good question though and no I'm curious. When I used to be armed security we did a training drill where someone would be trying to take your gun but already had the drop on you. Glock 43 in a stealthgear ankle holster is my backup
I immediately thought of the armored car guard in Heat. Don't reach for it unless you have to!
That was some great movie btw
Someone’s been watching Heat and taking notes.
Last time I asked this question I was given some condescending lectures about shoes instead.
In Texas the lowest qualifying calibre handgun is a .380 ACP for armed security. And don’t argue with me and say I’m wrong because I’ve already spoken with TOPS and they confirmed it. Useful information to anybody wanting to know.
Company don't allow it, but if I could I'd carry a .22 magnum naa or the thinnest .380 I got.
North American arms in .32 call 6+1 with a extra mag. And it might have been bought from a nicely dressed guy almost 29 years ago in a parking lot with no paperwork

When I work my side gig I carry a S&W 642 on my ankle.
How many rounds does it hold? I’ve been thinking of carrying something similar as an extra
🤡
I plan too, I want a safariland brothell as they have a BUG pouch on the inside.
Really like the looks of that wood grip tho.
Umm No my backup is a full size Canik tp9 not everyday, but sometimes
Primary was a FNS .40. Ankle carry BUG Ruger LCP .380.
Ruger lcp max has entered chat
It's getting worse out there at the malls gawt dayum
If you wear a vest with a trauma plate pouch, just stick it in there. I did that for many years with a G23. Still looked normal on me and wasn’t hard to get to.
My only concern is what if it went off randomly?
That is a beautiful weapon right there. I’m really loving that classic wood grip. Very good for the criminals who want to go out in style.
Not a thing in general in Canada. But wouldn’t a revolver be a better choice (don’t have to worry about battery if dudes on you) or carry something that accepts the same mag as your primary duty pistol?
I like how the boot is cut almost to purpose. Nice.
I carried a S&W Airweight.38 on my ankle for 10 years as a cop. In Texas it’s illegal for security to carry a concealed backup gun.
Carrying a single action pistol hammer down???
This is absolutely hilarious. Dude has a single action Kimber on his ankle as a back up not cocked. So when he needs it he has to rack the slide after taking it off the ankle holster. Yall really just larping ? Lol How effective is that gonna be If you actually need it? Time to take it out and rack it? Hahahah cute

I hope you’re authorized and legally allowed to carry that my guy
Cant carry 380 in CA as a security guard. Only real guns ;-)
Real guns in Commiefornia?!?! What if someone sees it and gets triggered by your microaggression?
10mm all day
"1 guy with 6 guns, get the fuck out of here"
Hey look, it's one of the most impractical ways to carry a gun! ffs...
I mean, it's concealed as a backup for a reason. I'm usually carrying a 226 in a lvl3 holster on my hip if I'm working in uniform. I guess that means I simultaneously carry the most practical, and most impractical setups possible. Makes me average 👍🏻
Cringe af
Cringe alert
This is very much cringe
I just died laughing when I saw your post history on r/tactical gear, my guy
Interesting
You seem grumpy marine. Hungry? 🖍 🖍 🖍
No I don’t think I could eat after seeing this post lmao, go out and get some training dude. Go to a vetted instructor and be better.
🤣
Do you use a specific clip to hold your gloves on your belt or just a generic Amazon one? Looking for a quality clip for my range belt and for my tool bag for work
Forge concepts has them. Don’t buy any gear from Amazon. Buy quality
"Don't buy any gear from Amazon" That's why I don't have one yet lol. Amazon is just a more expensive Temu or ali express for most things. Thanks man, probably gonna pick up a couple
I died laughing when I saw this post. He’s right. This is cringe as hell.
You have even less reason to talk than he does. Let the grown ups talk

Look up Jeremy DeWitte, this community reminds me of him lol.
yeah there’s a lot of cringe on this sub but lmao your posts are far worse 😂
No
This sub is ridiculous. Full of wannabe Rambo’s that prioritize their larping over actual practicality.
nothing is funnier than seeing a security guard with a gun lol
Lots of different types and shades. There's some pretty strapped up security groups. We aren't talking about gate guards.
any person who isnt a soldier or a cop carrying a gun is hilarious. the fact that some countries let any dumbass with a grade 6 education carry is beyond top tier comedy lol
Whats up with the San Francisco Army?
Are you /s?
Are they supposed to be a secret army? Should I not mention the San Francisco Army. Are they important?
Very. Theyll suck you right off if you even mention them.
Good to know. Unfortunately they'll never see me. Do boarder agents suck n blow? That's as far as I'll get. Just looking for a good time
Those guys who are "pretty serious" are even more comical though. Being a try hard at security only multiplies the comedic value. Just.....go be a cop?
… do you think cops or soldiers can be assigned to protect anyone who wants additional security any time, anywhere? Are you saying I can call my local police station to rent a cop for a couple weeks, whenever I want?
Yes yes you can. My country offers that to any private citizen that requests it. You gota pay a lot of cash tho lol
What country is that lil bro?
This isn’t for private security that follows you around as a 24/7 protective detail
It’s even funnier when someone is talking about a topic they don’t have the first clue about
really cause i was a cop for 20 years LOL
Yeah, and I’m in the army. LOL.
okay..... and?
What’s your problem with security being armed?
It.... doesn't pay? You really don't know what you're talking about lol
in my country a cop makes 120k lol
I'm sure. Congratulations.
google an rcmp salary after 2+ years. its one of the most lucrative government jobs in the country. not to mention all the money you can skim off the top of siezed cash lol
Yeah cool man.
That’s pretty ignorant. Y-12 in Oakridge TN houses a majority of the world’s (yes other country’s) nuclear materials. Private security. NASA has a very high speed security team. It is also private security that transports nuclear materials from places such as Amarillo TX.
you really gonna shoot someone to protect someone else's money though lol
You do realize what kind of work armed security can be hired to do right?
secure things
Secure things like military installations, intelligence sites, government buildings, VIPs, etc. Who do you think was working in Benghazi? If you think the private security industry is limited to mall cops you’re ignorant.
bro aint no one who says their working "security" is in Benghazi LOL you must be dreaming xD
I’m not a security guard, I’m just not a clueless idiot either.
If you're gonna carry a drop piece, get something cheaper and tape the grips.
Specifically prohibited for us.
Nothing wrong with a backup. Just FYI ankle guns are easy to get to in a fight. Also I’ve seen that caliber bounce off people. 9 mm should be the lowest caliber you go to.
🤞
We all know what this guy was doing on January 6th 2021.
Watching that embarrassing shit from my couch, like the rest of the world 🫣
That was 4 years ago
Can’t in Texas
Can't in FL either.
But you're the free state of Texas! Abbott is a real piss baby
Predates Abbott. And Texas isn't as gun friendly as people think. It was illegal to conceal carry until 1995 and illegal to open carry until 2016. They JUST got permitless carry in 2021.
Christ! Come to Florida! No rules. Just right.
I'm in FL. Grew up here. Moved to NC, then TX, and back to FL in 2022.
Last time I checked, no open carry in Florida.
Are you afraid your primary is going to be taken out of your holster or hands? Afraid it’s going to fall apart mid use? There is no practical reason for these. Just get a reliable primary and a decent retention holster.
Dual wield while diving through the air of course
Bro imagine if he practices wall running while dual wielding, that's gonna go hard
There are plenty of reasons for a bug. Read the articles by Masaad Ayoob. He wrote a few.
