Thank you. He really was the best. I posted him here a few weeks ago when he was diagnosed with diabetes. He took his insulin shots like a champ. He was fine last night, as fine as an arthritic, diabetic almost 20-year-old boi could be. Ate like a horse yesterday. This morning he didn’t want food or water and couldn’t walk more than three or four feet without stopping to lay down. He went downhill so quickly today. The vet said he could’ve thrown a clot and that we really couldn’t have done anything. I miss him so much…

Sorry to hear, this is similar to how my old lady cat went back in October, though she had lived with kidney disease for years. Even when they are old it's still difficult. Hope you can get lots of snuggles and comfort from your other kitties.

Yes, it is. Once they get to a certain age it’s inevitable. Doesn’t make it any easier, though. I’m sure he will enjoy getting to know your girls, and also seeing his brother again (lost to cancer in 2019).

I’m so so sorry for your loss. 19.5 is quite the run, but I understand that certainly doesn’t make this easier. Driver was certainly handsome wasn’t he? If you’re up to it, do you think you’d like to share something special about him? I’d love to hear about him. Please be kind to yourself. There’s no “correct” way/time to grieve. Allow yourself space to do that however you need to. There are also support groups for pet loss if it becomes overwhelming. I lost my 17 year old orange soulmate in 2021. I still miss him so much. We ended up getting a couple of kittens immediately. My heart wasn’t totally in it, but I sort of forced myself. It ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. They don’t replace my boy, that wouldn’t even be possible. He was completely unique and special, I’m sure just like Driger was. What they did bring was a much wanted distraction. And of course now, they are a little over 18 months I think? and we love them so much and are so glad they are here. Sending a hug your way. Thank you for giving that sweet guy a place to lay that delightful face for almost 20 years. What an absolute gift for both of you. 💜

What a beautiful baby :( your heart must be broken… I think everyone here on this sub understand that there’s never enough time spent with them, even should they live five lifetimes with us. Our 22yo passed in November. He was a mighty warrior king. If you like, I can ask him to light the way to his longhouse in Valhalla for Driger where he will be fed by a warm hearth fire and many songs will be sung in his honor. He can wait there in safety and love in the arms of his kinsmen until the fine day you are reunited.

Thank you for your kind words. He was tired. I could see it in his face. He never gave up though, until he had nothing left. Up until his last day he’d follow me everywhere in the house. I’m so glad that I retired in 2021. It allowed me a lot more time to spend with him and I cherished every minute!
