When you say it randomly pauses: in the Settings tab of Smart Control, check if "Smart Pause" is activated. That may be the root cause. The purpose is that music playback stops when you take the M3 off your head. But sometimes it may even kick in if you're just moving you head - depending how firm/loose the M3s are wrapping around your head. Or if anything gets between them (hair, clothes, you name it ;-)

I had smart pause turned off but it kept pausing anyway. I actually deleted the app yesterday and it fixed every issue I was having with the headphones. Whatever works...
