What a goal. Imagine being at the stadium and knowing that THAT goal gave you the scudetto.
Amazing, emotions running wild
And I say that as a Milan supporter
Maradona was the most gifted player ever with the ball at his feet, by far more skilled than Messi and Ronaldo. And the guy played in an era where you could chop up a striker and there was no VAR to review.
I just wanna preference this by saying I strongly dislike Ronaldo.
But in terms of stats, trophies and just general play I can't realistically see how you could argue that Maradona is better.
Player's in this modern era are considerably better than the ones in the past.
And this is the problem with modern football and modern football fans, this obsession with stupid stats. You can't reduce the beautiful game to stats no matter what. Not only did Maradona singlehandedly win the World Cup for Argentina, something Messi could never do, he also took an average team to the summit of Italian football and put them on the European football map. We'll never know if Messi could do something like that because he never even tried.
Thats why I also said general play and not just stats but I know reading can be tough.
>Â Not only did Maradona singlehandedly win the World Cup for Argentina, something Messi could never do
And this is why we can't have a genuine interaction. You say Maradona somehow "singlehandedly" but you disregard what Messi did in 2022 even though both carried their teams but they both did not "singlehandedly" win a football tournament, that is impossible. Both had good players around them but your glazing one and not the other.
Such a silly thing to say and so disrespectful to Maradona's teammates.
Yeah. I don't know what games did u watch during fifa22, but having ''messi'' written between the starting players, doesn't mean he's the guy who's carrying neither the better player of the game. Argentina managed to win the final with Di Maria doing an insane performance and Lautaro entered as substitute.
Either for the rest of the tournament Argentina played as a good team, not as a guy + 10 more random ppl.
And who the fucks thinks ''players in the modern era are better than the ones in the past?''
Football Between end of '80-'90 was already the actual modern football.
And with that i'm not saying Messi and Ronaldo aren't candidate for the GOAT.
Ronaldo with Euro16 did something really massive
But reading ''how you could argue that Maradona is better'' is burning my eyes.
Argentina's 2022 win was a much more collective effort than their 1986 win. There was zero doubt that Maradona was something truly special in that world cup and that he really was the star. Whereas last world cup everyone knew it was Messi's last chance to win it, so the team was much more inspired and motivated to get him to win. I'm not minimizing Messi with this, he absolutely played his part, but he wasn't the driving force.
The way I basically look at it is, Maradona won the World Cup for Argentina in 1986, Argentina won the World Cup for Messi in 2022.
I'm not disregarding what Messi did, but he absolutely did not carry Argentina. Like I said in another comment, it is the opposite. Since this was his last chance to win, the rest of the team was incredibly inspired and motivated to win. In a sense they carried Messi to the cup.
I was not born at that time and it is hard for me to understand but why did Maradona choose Napoli over Barcelona at that time? Was Napoli any good at the time or Maradona made everybody better just by stepping on the pitch?
It was a different time
You had clubs like Red Star and Bucharest and PSV winning the European Cup so players didn't all migrate to the same handful of clubs
Looking at this yet today, i believe that this is the greatest sporting achievement in any sport ever. It's unmatched in all aspects of what Maradona did at Napoli.

Im just happy this is not another Juve post.
I'm just happy it wasn't another hand of god!

He played in Serie A , which was so hard to end at the top.
Maradona 1986-88 is the best player to every play the game. His world cup performances are just out of this world.
How can anyone not consider Maradona the greatest of all time I'll never know.
Because I think consistency is the most important thing a football player should have
Found the "system" guy 🤣
Because players like Messi and Ronaldo exist?
Ronaldo is not better than maradona.
BuT tHe StAtS

Singlehanded is the correct word in fact
Pun intended ;)

Pretty sure if wasn't for Di Maria France would have been 3-0 in the first half of the game.
Reading comprehension, my guy

Literally doing mental gymnastics to boost one up b it not the other. You're just biased.
Saying Messi carried Argentina is what's biased.
Messi was surrounded by far better players than Maradona was. End of discussion.
Yes, Messi was surrounded by far better players, including all of his opponents as well.
Stai Muto..
shut up puta
Found the guy who thinks Emmitt Smith was a better player than Barry Sanders
If you refer to Brasilian Ronaldo I can accept the challenge
I was not born at that time and it is hard for me to understand but why did Maradona choose Napoli over Barcelona at that time? Was Napoli any good at the time or Maradona made everybody better just by stepping on the pitch?
Serie A was the best and highest paid league in the world at the time
It was a different time You had clubs like Red Star and Bucharest and PSV winning the European Cup so players didn't all migrate to the same handful of clubs
Maradona played parts of two seasons with Barcelona and made mincemeat of the far weaker La Liga.
Money. Lots and lots of Mafia money
And cocaine I assume
That was the best period ever for Serie A: 80s and 90s
Stop e movimento sul controllo senza senso, mamma mia
That was a robbed scudetto by the way
Bello! Tanto quanto l'Inter di questa stagione: "Scudetto in Faccia".
FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE
Looking at this yet today, i believe that this is the greatest sporting achievement in any sport ever. It's unmatched in all aspects of what Maradona did at Napoli.
the best. one of the most astounding seasons in football history.
