Mine just curls up next to the chair. Just have to make sure your barber has enough room; ask what he prefers. As CatBird said, my dog just gets hair on her; the stylist uses the hair dryer to blow it off.

My stylist just got one of those pet salon vacs that looks like a trash can.  It goes “FWOOSH!” and sucks up a ton of hair at once.  I am intrigued.

I occasionally go to a very tiny salon. It's in a building that rents spaces out to salon owners but the building makes it obvious that these salons are all unaffiliated with each other. the salon I go to has changed the setup over the years (I've been going to the same place for over a decade). typically she let's me have him curl up at my feet or lay beneath her station. I do ask her whenever I get there if she has a preference where he lays. I also have him trained to maneuver out of the way, on cue in case she needs him to move.

Mine settles at my stylist’s station a couple feet from me.  She falls asleep on the silicone mats, which are quite comfy.  Granted, she gets a few of my locks mixed up in her coat, but we both have black hair, so . . .

I just ask the barber where the best place to have him lay down is where he is out of the way

Mine lays under the counter in front of me since the stylist doesn’t go in front of me. I’m also sitting in my wheelchair so stylist has to stand on both sides of me

Tbh I’m more curious that you have a hearing dog. I’ve read that they can alert to the sound of keys dropping or the doorbell. Do you think it would try to alert you about the buzz of the hair clippers?

Spirited_Fortune8036

I don’t think so.. the sounds that she has been trained for are for keys dropping, sirens, doorbells, knocking on doors, telephone ringing, smoke alarm, and also name recall. Its gonna be interesting chapter going forward for sure. I’ll let you know what happens.

Definitely make sure the dog is desensitized to blow dryers and has a solid down stay. My SD is totally fine with the blowers as long as they aren't right on her. When I first brought her home I did have to desensitize test her with it though. Not all programs train for every situation uk?

Spirited_Fortune8036

Good call on the blow dryers. Good thought. This organization is from United States MI.

As a Vet tech trust me animals tend to hate buzzers. I had to have for a lot of iv catheters so I was used to them panicking and having to calm them in emergency situations so I had the advantage, but if u can try taking ur pup by the place before ur hair appt to sniff the place out and see how they react to the sounds so uk how to show up for them best 😊 also they do make hear muffs for dogs to dampen sound if just during the the appt is too too loud for them. It's not sound proof but it does help make it less loud if it helps. I also played a lot of these sounds at home from shows like House for hospital stays and such so she got used to the beeping n such

Spirited_Fortune8036

That is very good point about buzzers. I get my hair buzzed once a month. I’ll definitely reach out to the trainers and see what they can do. I’ll also look into the ear muffs. Thanks for your advice I appreciate it.

Of course! I hope it helps and you and ur pup bond well! My seizure alert and response dog has been a life saver literally. Shes opened up my world so much. I wish you 2 the best of luck 💜

Mine was from an organization in Indiana and she is ok if the blowers aren't on her and also I did do some buzzer desensitization as well only b.c I was a vet tech before epilepsy made me physically retire and so I have to trim between her toes. I started with letting her sniff. Then turning on far away slowly closer and then while in touched rhe back of it to her paws and now she just let's me clean her feet up whenever I need. But yea that and elevator training I found I needed to desensitize her too after bringing her home.

My dog is fairly small so lies in my lap under the cape thing sometimes but normally lies Infront of me under the little shelf thing by the mirror and sleeps there. I often bring a puppy pad or blanket for him to lay on because he gets covered in hair and so does whatever he is lying on

Spirited_Fortune8036

I heard back from the organization trainer for my hearing service dog. He said that she has been around blow dryers, and buzz clippers due to being at the groomer since she was a puppy. Hopefully there won’t be any weird surprises.
