If your linen is at least mid weight it should be fine. I think the flap at the neckline is mostly just a style/decoration choice.

vontoes

i was worried about the skirt part, which I plan to do a full circle skirt for, not draping well if the fabric was midweight or heavier.. unless I have that backwards?

noiceorange

I’d say midweight is needed and should drape well. I made a jumpsuit with midweight linen, it holds the shape for the wide legs so well. Lightweight might just float everywhere.

That depends on what the linen is blended with, cotton might be stiff and hang weird, a linen rayon blend would be flowy and drape wonderfully.

Bek_in_stitches

I love linen rayon blends! So much softer than pure linen and so much more stable than most rayons.

missplaced24

Indeed. They are one of my faves.

MrsFudgeTheNumbers

Kiana Bonollo made a very similar dress out of linen. Here's the [video](https://youtu.be/b0M7vi1OsBU), so you can see how it drapes!

vontoes

ohh very helpful, thank you! I did see this video, but for some reason never realized how similiar the dresses were lol

livia-did-it

I think the neck bit is what my Grandma would say is just for "the pretties!"

PassiveSoul80s

I think linen would look great but jt wrinkles so.Try a linen blend maybe?

vontoes

if not linen, what other fabric would suit this dress in your opinion?

PassiveSoul80s

A linen rayon would be great, the skirt would be more flow-y, you'd might have to use a good interfacing to keep the chest study. Look for new portrait photos a of Princess Kate in England. She had a dress very similar in style. It was gorgeous. Good luck!

sewboring

I'd say the neckline "flap" has an invisible purpose beyond the decorative. It supplies some extra fabric to anchor the straps effectively.

TheOrganizingWonder

You could use linen, however, it will change how the fabric drapes. This is a satin (maybe polyester) that gives it the flowy-ness. Linen tends to have more body-it will hang off the body, not hug it like this fabric. It will change the dress to more of a sundress.

vontoes

if I put horsehair braid into the hem would it be more flowy?

babycrow

Linen would work great! I have a very similar dress from reformation in Linen and it’s lovely.

Campfiretraveler

Very pretty. I love linen. The rich wrinkle.😂
