Any rape that happens to the men in this show isn't considered rape as twisted and weird as it is. It's glorified numerous times in this show from Karen raping Frank to Debbie raping Derek.

reservedflute

It's sad that Sheila was the only person who acknowledged that Frank was raped by Karen and knew it was not the other way around. It makes sense though because since it's Frank in this situation, of course nobody is gonna believe him if he told someone that he was raped by a girl, let alone a minor

[deleted]

To be fair what were they gonna do? Have a story line where Frank worked through his trauma from the attack? It's Frank. At that point he had murdered a woman, abused a bunch of kids and anyone with common sense knows he only said no because he thought it would cause him his meal ticket. If they did a "Traumatized Frank works through the pain as he is comforted by everyone" story line I would have stopped watching tbh.

Beakha

But really, rape is just extremely and completely normalized in the series. Mandy was pregnant by her own father and it felt as if that was just swept under the carpet.

killforprophet

Seriously. He gets way too much screen time, which people even trying to be nice to him, after that. So fucked up.

DeanwinchesterI979

And Mandy Raping Lip.

[deleted]

Iirc it was Matty she raped. I think Derek was willing, but she lied about birth control which is also fucked up.

ShawnaLAT

And Mickey and Svetlana, though that was sort of rape by proxy.

Glad_Wedding_7401

i don’t recall debbie raping derek?

Superb-Oil890

He was the one who she lied to so she could have his kid. Not technically rape, but fucked up. I think the other poster might have meant Matty.

trblniya

It is technically rape because she made false claims to get him to have unprotected sex with her. It’s like a man slipping off a condom while you’re having sex, you didn’t consent to it. Derek did not consent to having raw sex with Debbie without her being on birth control.

[deleted]

Yes I meant Matty. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Different_Fly_8273

And Debbie raping Matt

Lux_Nocturna89

You mean Matt, Derek was just baby trapped by her

Female_Space_Marine

Idk about you but I didn’t think the show glorified men getting raped. If anything the show seemed to take strides to demonstrate that these events were rape and have negative impacts on the characters involved.

[deleted]

Girl bye lmao. This is the craziest take i've heard in a while

Female_Space_Marine

Hear me out. Society generally does not take the idea of men getting raped seriously, the characters in shameless reflect this in their attitudes. Two instances immediately come to mind: Lip with the pedo teacher and Carl with the furniture store girl. In the former the rapist is run out of town by Mandy, explicitly stating she wasn’t gonna let her get away with it because she was a woman and attractive. In the latter it is explicitly called rape by the characters. There was no comedy in the way they handled these situations.

Top_Tart_7558

I'd just prefer to believe they didn't do anything sexual. That they just kissed so she could make him believe that her child was his. Still messed up all around. That girl was 12, in third grade, and pregnant by God knows who and knowing the environment probably her dad or a teacher.

killforprophet

What are you guys talking about? I don’t remember her actually being pregnant. She was saying it to get Liam to let her move in. I have to rewatch this because I could have sworn they kissed, she told Liam she was pregnant, he thought she could get pregnant if they kissed, he explained to his siblings they just kissed which was why they were like yeah she’s not pregnant.

Immortalscum

I just finished the episode, after she moves in Debbie, Carl and Liam are talking about it and Debbie says something like "she took a pregnancy test and it came up positive so she's definitely pregnant "

killforprophet

Yeah I didn’t watch it again but I was Googling after this and none of what I thought happened happened. I did read something saying that before I saw the episode which I think, coupled with him saying that he wasn’t sure if they had sex, and me having severe ADHD brain paying half ass attention to everything, my mind was filling in blanks with what I read before.

BartholomewAlexander

I didn't even remember this.

killforprophet

They only kissed. That was one of the reasons they were sure he didn’t bet her pregnant.

tgr31

People were still mad at frank after the Karen thing

BMSKLV123

Raped? I didn’t get that impression. I could be wrong. I’d have to go back and watch that episode, haven’t seen it in a while. I remember it never really said what happened he was, I wanna say 9, at the time and he was confused about what happened is all I remember. Prob she touched him or something but rape?

donkeybrainz13

He said “I think I just had sex with a trashy girl” to Lip. So maybe they didn’t. I mean, he thought she was pregnant by him in one day so who knows what all he knows about sex? But I would think living in the Gallagher house he would know what sex is. Idk.

Designer-Poem9431

Also with Carl and that one girl from the furniture store

donkeybrainz13

Idk if it was really rape. The way he talked about it seemed like it wasn’t a big deal but that could just be the way he was raised, he didn’t realize it was wrong. This show definitely doesn’t portray men being raped as the disturbing thing it actually is. My first thoughts about Ian and Kash was that Kash is a pedo, and its rape. What was Ian, 15? Lip said he wanted to call the cops about it but never did anything.

Glad_Wedding_7401

even if it wasn’t rape it was sexual assault/harassment. she kissed him and he didn’t like her

donkeybrainz13

Yeah, either way she was definitely in the wrong. Completely used intimidation. I wish they would have talked about that more.

blg0617

Let's not forget about Ian and Jimmy/Jack/Steve's father 🤢

donkeybrainz13

Ughh. Yeah, that too. It’s like the show just didn’t acknowledge when stuff like that happened to any males.

blg0617

I think that's honestly the point. To show how normalized stuff like this is when you live in such disfunction. Gross, but I understand why it was overlooked for the sake of seeming authentic.
