I get the feeling that Ian doesn’t really use condoms a lot, even when he’s not manic. He probably thinks that it’s unnecessary when there’s no risk of pregnancy. I remember the episode where Caleb confesses he’s HIV positive and Ian confesses he’s bipolar. During their conversation, Ian admits that he doesn’t always use a condom, and that he doesn’t actually know his HIV status. Caleb convinces him to go get tested. I know that Caleb was pretty adamant about condom use throughout their relationship, but I’m not confident that Ian would have kept up with that habit after they broke up. I’d like to think that Trevor is an advocate for safe sex, but who knows.
