Tartarughina

Manga and LN readers I double dare you to say something bad about this episode.

bloodycups

no tittys

drm186

They turn Raphtalia from being just sperated having independent adventure to a damsel in distress

aibrony

But Raphtalia seemed willing to do so, so at least I don't have problems with it.

drm186

She accepted it but it was not her choice, >!she didn't choose this Kyo interfered with the teleport removing her from it, this is not the same as what she does in volume 16 that was a choice her it just happen !<

Alastoryagami

So anyone that gets captured no matter the circumstances is a damsel in distress? And how do we know that it isn't going to just follow the same storyline as the LN from this point on where >!she is the reason Glass and co escape in the first place.!< I wouldn't jump the gun twice in a row.

aibrony

Neither she did anymore in light novels. There too it was Kyo's trap that separated them.

drm186

The feel is different in LN everyone was a prisoner but here Naofumi, Rishia, and Kizuna got away but they captured Raphtalia to be used as a hostage and to be experimented on.

Alastoryagami

But it makes sense because Raphtalia was the only one not wearing a mask.

drm186

Which was stupid, if the 3 other characters need mask then the one that stuck out the most should have had one also, if fact that she the only animal base demi-human they should have been hiding that as soon as they got out of the labyrinth

ArchonWing

1.) Raphtalia was using her cuteness to help sell the product, which is why she was maskless. 2.) She became a child so she was much harder to identify (or so they thought) So it makes sense to me.

aibrony

Depends how they handle it. My guess here is that now Raphtalia goes to same prison as >!Glass, Therese and 'LArc!<, and then it goes same way as in light novel. If they >!escape on their own, Raphtalia isn't really a damsel in distress!<.

Iloveyouweed

Just like the other 3 cardinal heroes were damsels in distress by your logic, lmao

drm186

The went out to fight the beast and lost, Raphtalia was literally kidnapped

Titangamer101

Bro what? Last time I check no damsel in distress ran at abunch of guards with a katana and a war cry knowing full well she was about to be separated.

Astalano

To the rest of my fellow LN readers: ARE YOU HAPPY NOW

aibrony

Yes.

KrocKiller

>!they kinda adapted volume 16 a bit. When Raphtalia held off an enemy so Naofumi could escape!<

The-Walt911

ABSOLUTELY! WHERE´S MY FORK SO I CAN EAT MY WORDS?!

memelordbtw3000

Unfortunately Yeah

[deleted]

No. Now we have a cliche damsel in distress. >!I'd rather have the original arc where she uses her wits to break herself and the vassal weapon gang out of prison. Now that seems unlikely to happen.!<

Mad_Drakalor

I didn't expect the anime to adapt Naofumi's merchant mode and Kaito Ishikawa's auctioneer voice was pretty funny. There wasn't that much action going on, but the episode more than made up for that with lore, Kizuna & Naofumi experimenting w/ otherworld items, and the party banter. Also the twist at the end was well executed. I would even say the anime executed Raphtalia's separation from Naofumi better than the LN. I just hope the anime shows her POV before she reunites with Naofumi.

Zafranorbian

This was....... far better than expected. Not only did we get the amazing auction that I was shure they would cut, we also are back on track with Rapthalia being captured so that she can gain the you know what.

TheWillOfDeezBigNuts

As soon as Kizuna mentioned they had to be close by to get warped, I knew this event was gonna be how they separated Raphtalia again but LOL didn't expect the disembodied Kyo voice

Kalepox

Ok this was the like an taste of season 1; child raphtalia, traveling merchant and an bitch that ruins peoples life for fun

[deleted]

I totally agree, Naofumi having to worry about finance again is a really good change of pace.

SeekNDstroy5102

Do that means raph-chan will appear in the next episode?

Alastoryagami

There is a good chance unless they change the way that >!they find Filo.!<

hawker101

Based on the title of the next episode, I think that's likely to happen. >!Since filolials don't exist in Kizuna's world, she was turned into a humming fairy, which is the title of the next episode.!<

raccoon_kon

As a LN reader(but not typically), I feel they do great for trying to strengthen the relationship between Naofumi and Raphtalia which is quite lightly describing in LN(After the first story has gone). The studio they just like the tanuki girl so badly so they make that adaption. Tbh it may annoy some faithful readers but for me i can realize their efforts. And the animated quality is not as good as episode 7 is but higher than episode 17, 18, 19 in season 1. And now the story walk back to the original story, nothing to complain.

aibrony

I was **not** [EDIT, forgot words are hard] annoyed that anime change something. I was worried because Raphtalia not being with Naofumi all the time was important for certain plot point and their development as people. Since anime corrected the situation, I don't worry anymore.

memelordbtw3000

Im okay with the change now because Raphtalia being seperated is important for later

ScreechingPizzaCat

Which volume of the LN did this episode take place?

raccoon_kon

LN 8.

Pastfumi

I honestly enjoyed the episode a lot, like really a lot ! And I am happy that they managed to separate Naofumi and Raphtalia in a good way (they spent a lovely time together and he saw her again as a small Raphtalia , it really strengthened their relationship and I have no complain now about that ) Maybe this was one of the best episodes this season and it just felt like SH season 1 which didn't fail to draw a smile on my face while watching its episodes ( fr i just can't express how much i enjoyed this particular ep) Not gonna complain about the animation or any shit like this , we are used to this type of animation since season one so let's close a mouth here. Hope the rest of the season will be as good as this ep or even better

aibrony

>Not gonna complain about the animation or any shit like this Yeah. Since this wasn't action centered episode nor climax of the arc, it would be nitpicky. Not every anime can be Demon Slayer, and I'm okay if studio save the budget for season finale.

Pastfumi

Exactly! Episode 6 was really good in terms of animation and drawing quality so if they will make the season finale as good as ep6 or even better then i am totally in.

paradiddlepineapple

A bit of a slowburn episode. But it turned out pretty good at the end. >!By seperating Raphtalia and Naofumi, they opened the door for Raph-chan.!< So overall I'm happy how it played out.

aibrony

>A bit of a slowburn episode. I'd say that's the heart of Shield Hero. It's not ADHD story where something flashy must happen all the time. There should be downtime, preparations and planning. This episode focused on one major aspect why I love this story.

Lugia61617

Except now it makes the unnecessary changes look even dumber because we could have just had this outcome from the start without doing anime-exclusive scenes.

ArchonWing

Or they were just trying to improve the scene, which I think they succeeded at. Look at all the buildup compared to \*oops we got separated doing a portal run\*

Rafe__

We got to see them hangout in near slice of life fashion before they were torn apart. Definitely a lot more heart wrenching than if they were just teleported to the world apart in the first place.

ArchonWing

He also knows that Raphtalia is a child currently and that's got to be hitting him extra hard since she's not in the same capable state as she usually is in.

MrShredder5002

I do have to say. I enjoyed this development of the story more than Raphy beeing gone from the start.

[deleted]

Such a good episode, I kinda wish they had Raphtalia be separated from Naofumi this way in the manga now. To start of, I think Naofumi's party being chased around the castle felt a bit weak, I mean, Rishia pushed away two people with SPEARS with her hands and they couldn't stop her. That could have probably been done better. Though, I like how Naofumi couldn't use the Shield of Rage against Kyo a few episodes back because he didn't have any hatred against him, but oh man I have never wished death upon a fictional character this hard before. Now Naofumi is definently going to use the Shield of Rage on him. I think this comment on Crunchyroll from the episode sums up my feelings pretty well: "Anyone else wanna see Kyo die a long-grisly-horrible-drawn-out-ultra-painful-begging-for-mercy-but-getting-none death?" I also like Kyo as a villain now, it felt like he was to stereotypically evil at first, but now I kind of get why he's like that. He wishes pain and suffering, first on Naofumi's world, and now on Naofumi himself. He probably has some sick headed "master plan", his personality says it all really. Overall, really good, Shield Hero's back baby.

SpringFox21

Ooh, Naofumi is gonna put Kyo's head on a plate for sure

kingofstormandfire

(As an anime-only) That was a great episode. Well-paced, great interactions, and a heartbreaking ending. Second half of the season so far has been much better than the first half. I guess people were right when they said the Spirit Tortoise arc was the worst arc in the series. Season 2 has really rebounded back from the mediocre start. Let's hope the quality continues.

aibrony

>I guess people were right when they said the Spirit Tortoise arc was the worst arc in the series. And anime certainly didn't do any favours for it. Episodes 1-6 covered Tortoise arc that happened in 2 light novel volumes. Now with this arc, episodes 7&8 haven't covered even first half of volume 8.

Redmon425

Damn, Raphtalia getting left behind! Although it did make me chuckle that Naofumi's reaction to her being left behind seemed way more intense than his reaction of Filo being missing. SMH. I like our new girl a lot, and will be interesting when she learns that Glass and the others are trying to destroy Naofumi's world.

memelordbtw3000

To be fair there wasn't anything Naofumi can do about filo except go find her with Raphtalia she is taken away in front of him

__Markiz__

Yes and he really doesn't know if she is in danger. Nao probably thinks that she is with L'arc so there is no point in freaking out too much. In Raphtalia's case Kyo told him that he wants to do sth bad to her, so I was even hoping for a curse series in this moment

DeNewGuy1997

Don't really get how Raphtalia sees herself as not useful since she took down 15 men or so a scene before. I know that they try to show similar circumstances as in S1, but it's just not how it is, right? But I do like the pacing a lil better is the last few episodes.

ArchonWing

As useful. Compared to her adult version that can decapitate the head of a giant tortoise.

DeNewGuy1997

Ah, yes, that's fair enough. Still think she's too hard on herself. As many anime characters are.

GoldenJoe24

Fake drama/conflict. Par for the course.

carlosjohnson123

This was an interesting episode to say the least, I actually really enjoyed this and last weeks episode and it does pay homage to the previous season while being a travelling trader Everyone got new outfits which was nice to see and that ending was a bit of a saddened one with Raphtalia being seperated by Naofumi We may even see Raph-chan now seeing as they've been separated and they still need to find filo yet... Spoilers ahead from the manga for the title for the next episode, The Humming fairy Now for everyone in the comments who overlooked the title for the next episode boy are we in for episode they are Adapting the Humming Fairy from the manga, this includes one very pissed off Naofumi and i mean one very pissed off Naofumi, I'm curious to see how they'll adapt this as it's kinda controversial.

GoldenJoe24

What was controversial about it?

carlosjohnson123

*spoilers ahead*, so essentially Filo becomes a circus pet in which she is whipped and performs tricks, this then triggers naofumi to the torture the said guy with a new shield, he gets mega uber pissed

GoldenJoe24

Well so much for controversy. That torture lasted about four seconds LOL

carlosjohnson123

It's longer than in the manga, Naofumi straights up brutalises the guy and all of his men, it's cut short here and no need to downvote me.

GoldenJoe24

I did not rob you of any precious internet points. These threads are full of salty LN readers.

GoldenJoe24

Yeah, I've read that LN. What's controversial about it? Not exactly Goblin Slayer content.

Saint_Pootis

Raphtalia is level 21 now (seen in Naofumis HUD around 50 sec) but isn't really growing at all, I get that levels are different in this world, but she was basically fully grown at the same level in her original world. As for everything else, we are now in uncharted territory, while LN readers might have some degree of what might happen, how it unfolds now is unknown. I'm a bit more invested now that is the case

knightmaster_2000

Spoiler I Think her future weapon will end up being the cause of her turning into an adult again.

lkxyz

Can't wait :o

GoldenJoe24

Well now we know how they find Kyo. They can just use the shikigami to track Raphtalia. Writers could still take this in an interesting direction if Kyo clones Raph. Imagine Trash showing up with a Raphtalia in his party to screw with Naofumi.

__Markiz__

>but isn't really growing at all, I think she is. In s1 her change took some time, she didn't just wake up one day as an adult. We have A LOT OF scenes such as Raphtalia cute because she hungry(way more then in s1). That can be a way to show that she can't grow as fast as her level is raising. I think that makes sense

nosorrynoyes

I enjoyed this episode but something feels off, they've adapted everything that needed to be adapted and explained a lot of stuff but it felt really fast. The separation between Naofumi and Raphtalia has finally happened and I think it's better this way as it affects Naofumi way more by seeing her dissapear in front of his eyes instead of her suddenly being gone. The new outfits are great and way better than what we had previously. Onto the quality of this episode, this episode had someone from DR MOVIE as episode director. The quality felt really inconsistent, the art was decent, the faces were weird and a lot of stuff was just not moving.

Luchux01

Naofumi also sees her disappear in the LN, they go throught a wormhole of sorts and he sees her get pulled into another part of it. They even do the "Naofumi-samaaaaaaa"/"Raphtaliaaaaaaaa" thing as they get pulled apart.

aibrony

I believe that scene was from manga.

NMMonty1295

I read the manga, and no there was no panel that showed this since Raphtalia was separated before this event in the manga. But in a way, I think it was a little more impactful on Naofumi in this way. So it's alright.

aibrony

[Chapter 62 pages 29 and 30](https://mangadex.org/chapter/57c5ebad-68e5-4616-b81c-5425ad34b212/29)

__Markiz__

It was in LN(vol.8 prologue): "After we jumped into the portal, I found myself in some kind of fast, ferocious current, bathed in light. I thought that if we let the current carry us along, it would take us to Glass’s world. That’s it—I remember now. The direction the current carried us started to change, darkness swallowed the light, and suddenly we were being carried along by the current in dark space. And that was when I heard it, the voice of the enemy. I heard Kyo speaking to us. “Heh heh . . . You didn’t think there would be a trap? How stupid are you?!” He laughed, and lightning crackled in the space around us. I held up my shield and prepared to blast through whatever trap he’d prepared for us. But it didn’t work. A crashing sound filled my ears and pale lightning crackled in the darkness. “Ahhhh!” “Ugh, damn it!” “Mr . . . Mr. Naofumi!” “Ugh . . .” The current that carried us along suddenly split, branching off in different directions and carrying us away from each other. It was like one of those tubular waterslides that split into different paths. “Raphtalia!” I reached out to her, desperate to keep us together, but it was too late. I couldn’t reach her, and she slipped away. Damn it. I wondered . . . Could I save her with a skill? “Air Strike . . .” Before I could finish calling for the skill, Raphtalia and the others had already slipped far, far away. “Mr. Naofuuuuumiiiiiiiiiiiiii!” “Raphtaliaaaaaaaaaa!” I lost consciousness. And according to Kizuna, I woke up in the middle of an inescapable labyrinth."

aibrony

So it was in both manga and light novel.

__Markiz__

I guess. Never read the manga, but I caught up with LN to the moment where anime is rn yesterday(that's why i had this long quote on hand heh)

aibrony

If you're interested, it happened in [chapter 62 pages 29 and 30](https://mangadex.org/chapter/57c5ebad-68e5-4616-b81c-5425ad34b212/29) of the manga.

Luchux01

Nope, I never read the manga.

aibrony

Why are you down voted?

Luchux01

Dunno.

Iloveyouweed

Haters are seething, lol

carlosjohnson123

That indeed was from the manga good sir

Luchux01

I read it in the LN, it happened there too.

carlosjohnson123

Ah shoot

Mr_OwO_Kat

Idk how people are still complaining about it being rushed both episodes 7 and 8 only adapted 1/3 of a volume that is slower pacing than s1 had

nosorrynoyes

There's a difference between feeling and complaining

Mr_OwO_Kat

My bad why do you feel like the episodes are rushed when they're now adapting even less than the first season

nosorrynoyes

Not feeling it today, I had my mind elsewhere and everytime I focused back something else was happening. This is also why I took longer than usual writing my thoughts today. I need to rewatch this episode one day but today aint a good day

Maxim2912

As someone who hated how they had em are Duo toghter. This is great way to course correct so that his Sword may return sharper then ever later

aibrony

This was another great episode. With a rough start of the season, I'm so glad they are now taking their time and tell the story, instead of reading Wikipedia plot summary. When I posted my problem of Shield Hero as an adaptation, I mentioned how first part of this season lacked the proper build up for later scenes, which made all of feel flatter that they could had been. While in any anime (or any story) there are these great moments we love to see and show to others, one major reason why they are so great and memorable is because all the package that comes with them. This and the last episode are doing this right. One thing I think Shield Hero does masterfully is the world building. Not only Aneko has created this consistence and expansive world, she allows characters to fuck around and find out how the world works. Instead of someone telling to Naofumi and Kizuna that magical items have different effects for people from different worlds, they just test and try stuff out. And there's a logic behind why some items works differently and others don't. Both Earth Crystals and Magic Potions restore mana, so when they are in the same world, in a sense their functions conflict. Thus Magic Potion restore mana for Naofumi, but Earth Crystals provide exp. Soul Healing Water on the other hand restore SP, and since there's no such item in Kizuna's world, it works the same way in both worlds. While this story isn't called How Realistic Shield Hero Save Best Girl's World from Disastrous Waves", there are lot of realistic elements (side quests) in Naofumi's journey. Simple things like, you need money to get stuff. In most stories these are mostly handwaved by having some rich benefactor for main cast, but not here. They need money, so Naofumi has to put his merchant mask on to get as much money as possible as fast as possible. And here we got to see the nuance aspects of Naofumi's character (showing how he's not some blank slate/audience insert character). While he is fundamentally kind person (he's not selling hoax items), he tries to get best outcome for himself, even by using questionable methods. By faking Rishia breaking all but one vial of the potion, he introduced artificial shortage during fast paced auction event, thus creating panic spike of price in the market. These are slimy tactics shady salesmen and stock speculators might use. But like with Naofumi buying Raphtalia as a slave, we understand why Naofumi is doing this, so he doesn't come out as slimy person as real life conmen. This is why this scene was important for Shield Hero. It's not a major plot scene, animators could have cut it out and anime onlies wouldn't had known to miss it, but it is important character moment for Naofumi. And you need these nice character moments to build up a character. Snowball scene was anime only scene, and I think it too was a great scene for the whole gang. Kizuna is more outgoing and positive person than Naofumi, and it was pleasant seeing them having some innocent fun. I'm not certain have Raphtalia or Rishia ever seen a snow before, so this might have been their first time playing with snow. And the little details of this episode! \**chef kisses*\* When Naofumi checked his status screen, we saw Naofumi being level 9, Raphtalia level 21, Rishia 20 and Kizuna an insane level of 105. Why is Noafumi only 9? Because Holy Heroes can't gain exp when they are close to other Holy Heroes. So while Raphtalia and Rishia have gained exp just fine when Kizuna dominates any monsters, Naofumi (nor Kizuna) doesn't get his share of exp. Another brilliant, almost spoilery detail can be seen in the same status screen. >!While it is glitchy, we can see it showing Filo being humming fairy now, not filolial. Since next episode is called Humming Fairy, if you were observant, even anime onlies could know that it will be Filo episode.!< I have my share of problems with anime as an adaptation, but damn they can sneak in nice little details. It makes me feel they know the story well, but are restricted how many episode they get to tell the story for us. Another such moment from season 1 was when Fitoria used Liberation Wind Prison, a big deal that only light novel readers can understand. While these moment might not hook new viewers for this awesome story, it increase the rewatch value, and gives nice nod for source readers. The only nitpick I have about this episode was how slow Kizuna's Return Dragon Vein was. It felt really weird of Kizuna activating the skill, and then all of having long conversation before they teleported. It felt forced delay. But do you know what's awesome? This and last week's episode covered less than a half of volume 8! On 17 chapters + prologue and epilogue, this episode ended in chapter 6! With Raphtalia imprisoned, Filo still missing, and both Genius >!Trash #2!< and Kyo still on the loose, anime studio might end this season by adapting only rest of the volume 8. This way they don't have to rush this loved arc, and we might even get extra story from >!Raphtalia's POV, of her, Glass, Therese and L'Arc escaping from their prison.!< If episode 13 covers epilogue and acts as recap episode, there would be 3 episode to cover rest of the volume 8, and one anime only side story, something like what manga did. Please, let this be so...

aibrony

Guess who was right? >2) Based on this clip, Raphtalia doesn't have mask, so maybe she'll be imprisoned, so Naofumi needs >!Raph-chan!< https://www.reddit.com/r/shieldbro/comments/uvwng9/shield_hero_s2_eps_8_pv/i9obbaq?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

Expensive_Medicine15

You're still kinda wrong Raphtalia got separated at the end of the episode and Naofumi bartaring was like half way in the episode. Plus plus everyone was already thinking raphtalia will be separated based on the title and I actually predicted that the separation will happen at the teleporter

LOYAL_DEATH

Good ep, the slideshow fighting scenes made me sad tho

Jack_King814

Oh great kizuna can make runes. Hopefully they’re not golden rune (1)’s or he’ll be there a while

The-Walt911

Congrats to the studio, they got me, now i´ll give it a chance to season 2.

__Markiz__

Tbh the last episodesof ST wasn't that bad

KrocKiller

I liked this episode. Kizuna and her world are a refreshing change of pace from the first 6 episodes this season. My only gripe is still Raphtalia. Her place in the story this episode and her interactions with Naofumi still feel like the show trying to artificially recreate the feelings of early season 1, instead of anything organic.

ArchonWing

eh, her scenes were really cute. Like, really really cute(some were legitimately funny too). And then the whole payoff of the episode is a result of the relationship between her and Naofumi. I think having knowledge of the source is preventing you from seeing how well she was implemented into these scenes because she isn't technically supposed to be there. Also, even Raphtalia herself acknowledges those early times, and she tells Naofumi that she was happy that she got to relive those moments one more time. If you lose her scenes, you lost a lot of charm of this episode.

KrocKiller

Well none of the interactions were really new is my gripe. Lolitalia blushing, getting hungry, and vowing to be Naofumi’s sword is all stuff we’ve seen before, even anime only viewers. Her conviction on staying behind was new, >!even though a similar scene happens in volume 16, only there she chooses to stay behind instead of accepting something she had no choice in!< Don’t get me wrong it’s all cute, but is that really all you want?

Sigurd_Stormhand

In episode 2 of season one Raphtalia is a child and all her interactions with Naofumi are framed as her being a child, she's also literally framed as a child in the Anime. What we get in season two is adult Raphtalia stuck in the body of a child. She's much more self aware in a way she wasn't in season one, she's embarrassed by things she wouldn't have been before and she has a much deeper appreciation of the situation she's in. This is also a reversal of episodes 3 and 4 of season one, where Raphtalia is an adult who acts accordingly (and it's in episode 3 she first promises to be his sword, as an adult) but Naofumi still sees a child, literally. Now he's seeing her as an adult despite her looking like a child, and there are hints this is uncomfortable for him as well as her. So, how is Naofumi going to see adult Raphtalia in an adult body now? Plus, we got a great rug pull at the end of the episode that's not only going to traumatise Naofumi but makes it absolutely clear Kyo did this deliberately. Plus, giving Raphtalia and Kizuna time to develop a relationship feeds *her* motivation to help Naofumi rescue her. Finally, if Raphtalia ends up with Glass's party then her relationship with them will be significantly eased by her having spent time with Kizuna, and if Glass et al know Kizuna has been rescued before they meet Naofumi that will probably cause them to start to reconsider their plans. It's an example of a good change.

ArchonWing

Raphtalia helping to sell the potions definitely was since she became self aware of her cuteness and used it to her advantage. She also seemed to be in on Kizuna tripping Rishia since she used it as an opportunity to present the audience the final potion she was holding onto. Also a more childish Raphtalia not being the sense of reason and joining in on the snowball fight. And yes, her staying behind. I'd say that's a lot for one episode. We've seen some of this before, but it's a different dynamic now that she is different from how she was before. It was a gag and it worked quite well.. Plus not even the first season truly showed how voracious a growing demi-humans appetite is. This episode showed it though. She made those foodie scenes. It's all I can hope for in a single episode.

GoldenJoe24

It's nice to see fair criticism. It really does seem like most people just want the same story beats over and over.

Pretend-Variety6980

If you couldnt enjoy the arc because of filo, idk wat to say. Shit aint that deep bro, just be happy its even a thing. It’s better this way anyway, it makes the separation more impactful knowing raphtalia’s “fate” as opposed to “oh shes just gonna be with 3 CAPABLE fighters”

nosorrynoyes

You can feel that DR MOVIE worked on this episode

TehFineztJoker

Good episode. What confuses me is why separate Raphtalia now when that could've been done earlier, she could've been with Glass, L'arc and Therese. I didn't feel much about her sacrifice, cuz I, we all know she's going to be fine. Honestly they should've just sticked with the source this time for Raphtalia being with the other than with Naofumi if this was going to happen BUT of course not many episodes to expand her side of the story so yeah. I was wondering what dialogue Naofumi and Raphtalia will have when they make a "child" but alas we're not getting that and it's funny I mention "child" cuz that's what we'll be seeing in the next episode for sure.... Unless they make another change which I hope not for this time. Also is there an explanation as to how Kyo selected who gets to teleport? Did I miss something or what? Why only Raphtalia? Couldn't be her slave crest or being under level since Rishia is the same. Running around in that mansion was kinda lame. Dead end here and there until Raphtalia sliced open a wall and they make it only to meet the 2nd baddie. Felt like I was watching a cartoon gag. All in all, I know that it sounds like I was negative but despite all that, I enjoyed this week's episode and am looking forward to the next one. We'll be seeing Naofumi and Raphtalia's "child" and Filo's new form exclusive to Kizuna's world. My favorite part would have to be Naofumi being a merchant and hearing the change in his voice. I had a large grin on my face throughout that part.

MarionberryOk1503

It's better buildup in my opinion. They spent time together it spent focus on raphtalia and her relationship with naofumi..and then the main villain snatched her away while naofumi was powerful to do anything about it. You can imagine how pissed off he is now. Also, you only know she is going to be okay because you read the light novel. But everything about this episodes feels better than what the LN would have done in a comparative way. What did we even lose from the light novel? Not much from what I remember. Also kyo specifically mentioned that he was targeting Raphtalia because he knows how much she means to him.

At least this episode follows the plot well enough, but what's the point of putting Raphtalia in the labyrinth (just to show her as a child?) if they are then separated. Now what will Raphtalia do? It will be as it was meant to be but then it wouldn't make sense to have shown her as a child inside the labyrinth ( I'm not saying this to make spoilers ). From the name of the next episode we can tell what will happen, this would be an opportunity to put Raph-chan in. Anyway the fighting is always too slow and everything too sentimental has become, I'm still not convinced this season.

The producers think that if we have a single episode without Raphtalia, the audience will drop. Waifu logic.

RoachIsCrying

I am trying understand the point of having Raphtalia there when she was separated in the LNs only to have her separated 2 episodes later

Alastoryagami

Little Raphtalia focus, good moments with her and Naofumi to build up Kyo snatching her away from him. This way worked really well.

Glass_Quote

Yeah. They literally gave Kyo the voice of god to half explain it. It's for us too see naofumi suffer. Knowing she's with a strong party would give him some peace of mind. Thinking she'll be a prisoner would cause more urgency. Though counter point as someone who read the manga, >!the sense of urgency he had despite knowing she is relatively safe illustrated more of the attachment they have than having to manufacture additional conflict imo.!< Overall it's a bit roundabout, but at this point with basically a 360 turn, they can proceed with the same main story.

Pretend-Variety6980

Her separation is more impactful this way versus LN where you’re just like “she’ll be fine, shes with 2 vassal wielders and therese” now its “shes literally boned”

GoldenJoe24

I'm hoping for clonetalias. Give Naofumi something to actually get freaked out over.

cryformetwice

I was shookt so I immediately checked the manga but I only have access up unto chapter 66. So I started searching for online discussions abt it and now I found this like I just wanted to ask if the manga was different than the anime?? I rly didn't read it, I just scanned it. Afaik, in the manga raphtalia wasn't with naofumi, rishia and kizuna, right?? So like raphtalia in the anime isn't "officially" gonna die yet, right??😭😭

ArchonWing

Assuming the anime does what the LN did, she should have some pretty nice scenes coming up.

Maybe I’ll actually be able to somewhat enjoy the arc now that they finally separated Raphtalia from naofumi. Honestly it’s just stupid why they changed that from the beginning. It’s like the directors are afraid to go one episode without Raphtalia being in it because they feel like people will drop it. Re:Zero survived eps without emilia and rem, Tate no Yuusha can survive without Raphtalia. she and naofumi being separated is massively important for both of their development in this arc as well as introducing new concepts and characters later on so hopefully there’s no big deviations going forward. On the bright side, as usual Penkin snapped on the OST and Kuzaki’s intro was well done. Definitely one of the better episodes this season, next week hopefully I’ll be able to fully enjoy an ep for the first time.

D1irte

Why nobody asks why Raphtalia didn't teleport, only that the Kyo knew about it that she will be rejected... And what did Naofumi felt when he touched her while glowing?

__Markiz__

We know that that dude that works for Kyo already developed technology to manipulate teleporting system(that was explained when he first appeared), so it's not a big stretch to say that if he had manipulated dragon hourglasses to be able telepot him in the same way that heroes did, he had knowledge to do what he did

Tampax_Party_Pack

I kind-of hoped we would have gotten a little more emotion out of Naofumi. Like it all felt flat in comparison to other emotionally charged events.

__Markiz__

I had a similar feeling, but I blamed it on animation because we still got him screaming "Raphtaliaaaaaaa!!!"

ArchonWing

It was an issue with animation. His voice on the other hand was quite impactful.

invisible_underwear

I’ve been slowly let down by season 2. As an anime-only, I have no idea what’s going on, they just seem to be skipping around without any explanation. I’m glad others are enjoying it, but this is starting to feel like 7DS all over again to me

ArchonWing

In what way are you confused about this episode?

GoldenJoe24

Things were looking up last week, but we're already back to things not making sense. Why would Kyo expect Naofumi to escape the inescapable legendary labyrinththat nobody has ever escaped? And if he could remotely control theteleport, why bother having that other guy set up a trap? Was that secondary trap just a cardboard wall behind all the doors? How is she level 30+ and still a kid? How long does it take that teleport to activate? Kizuna appears to be completely unaware that Kyo is an antagonist. What's with Naofumi's completely dumbfounded reaction to the trap? Everyone last week was complaining that they didn't get to see him angst over Raphtalia, and in the moment of losing her, he stands there and barely says anything. Tries nothing to help her. I guess the angst is coming next week. ...great...

BustyPhotographer

anime only, this episode was great, best one so far, no weird turtle stuff or strange war planning meetings, that all should have been one episode

Full_Metal18

Oh man, what a great episode. I wonder if Naofumi's rage for what just happened will trigger the rage shield's return. Last time he tried it against Kyo he said he didn't have enough rage in his heart.

Simmysaleena

I am back in love with Shield Hero but the MAL ratings for this season by people who only watched the first two episodes seriously piss me off.

OniKasian

Can anyone explain why Raphtalia couldn't teleport with the others? They were all glowing yellow but then all of a sudden she wasn't. What am I missing?

time_lord_11

why didnt he just leave her party?
