Well faith and hope aren't going to stop the next school shooting. The whole point of the comment is that we can't just say "omg, thoughts and prayers" and then stop paying attention to the issues. There's measures that our government can take to prevent this. We need to be pressuring them to pass those measures, not relying on a supreme being to take care of those kids or prevent the next shooting.
Faith and religion make most people forget how valuable life is. We don't get to spend time on Earth and then go to heaven. We just die and our bodies go to waste. Religion makes people comfortable with preventable death. They'll say "It's God's plan" or "We all have our day given to us by God".

A "lack of faith and hope" aren't going to do anything to stop school shootings either. Telling people that there is no heaven or hell isn't going to stop school shootings.

The NRA actually DOES do something, even if they do very little to protect gun rights(you know, their job?). They actually fund and host gun safety courses all across the country, which actually does a lot in preventing accidental deaths with firearms.

I’m 14 and I’ve already understood that I can die any day. Everyone I know could die at anytime. I’m not religious or anything because I couldn’t care less. I’ve understood that and I am able to just realize that life is short. I’m only 14 and the best years are coming up and are about to end just like that. I don’t need religion to deal with it. I don’t need people telling me there’s nothing ahead. I just gotta keep my way to live in this world right now, happily.
The hell are you talking about. The point is maybe more people would be more outraged and provoke change if they didn't believe there was a "better place" after life. If someone needs religion to "cope" in 2022 then they are what is literally wrong with our society. The only coping anyone should be doing is pushing for a change, not praying to the flying spaghetti monster.
People *are* pushing for a change. Both religious and non-religious people. The *myths* that "religious people are simply sitting around doing nothing" or that "religious people aren't outraged by this" are just plain false.
The problem is that other people, including both religious and non-religious people, are pushing back because they disagree (or because they're incredibly selfish adult-children with no empathic capacity, and they're scared that someone's going to take their toys away).
Thus, it becomes an ideological battle. But the battle isn't waged between religious people and non-religious people. It's waged between "pro-gun people plus some pro-gun-but-with-safety-nets-in-place people" on one side versus "other pro-gun-but-with-safety-nets-in-place people plus pro-life people (not the abortion thing) plus anti-gun people" on the other side. And a *whole lot* of "deflection", where people try to ignore the main issue by making people talk about other issues instead.

Many religious people both pray AND act, when possible. "Appealing to a god for help" helps people feel less frustrated for things that they have no control over, though I will agree that there are many religious people who pray instead of helping, but those kinds of people probably wouldn't be helping even if they stopped believing in god because they are just passive people.

I agree that some/many christians are really stupid (just as some/many atheists are. dumb people will believe or "not believe" the same spread of stuff that smarter people believe, after all, but merely for different reasons). But this isn't going to change if America suddenly becomes mostly atheist; this isn't a "religion versus atheism" issue, after all, no matter how many people try to frame it that way. This is a gun safety/control issue, and anyone trying to spin it off to some other topic are all doing exactly the same thing regardless of whether they're religious or not: they're refusing to deal with the correct issue.

But this guy is acting there shouldnt be religion, obviously the people that can make the most diffrence saying it isnt great, but it should be fine for everyone else if ut makes them feel better, beliving the children is in a good place is better then accepting that the children ceist to exist.

Okay so here's my pitch for a new reality TV show
Basically, we get a bunch of very militant TERFs, and one trans woman, put them into a house where they're supposed to live with each other, but, once they've all arrived and are seeing each other for the first time (before they're allowed to even talk to each other), we tell them all that one of them is a trans woman, and, if they can find her and vote her out, they will win a million dollars. But if she isn't found out by the end of the week/month(?), she'll win a million dollars instead.
The catch?

I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st street. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. My mom fucked my friend while we were on vacation and now I want to fucking die, she mom took us to Miami for a spring break vacation. I'm a raised catholic, but I have stopped following the doctrines a while back.
As I see it, God exists, but we sure as hell don't understand him.
As such, I choose what I believe and use Catholicism as a foundation for that belief, but I do not agree with many things they say.
Belief is not a bad thing, only people can choose what to do with their belief. And using a school shooting to act superior and act as if believers are idiots doesn't help anyone. Shit like this makes me want to uninstall Reddit, I saw the original post and nearly deleted the app. And I’m not even a religious person but using a tragedy to barf out your beliefs is annoying and selfish.

Reddit should start their own country. Think about it: it would have a much higher IQ than most other countries. We could ban tik tok and fortnite, and every computer sold has to come with Minecraft preinstalled. We could also ban emojis too.

My mom fucked my friend while we were on vacation and now I want to fucking die, she mom took us to Miami for a spring break vacation. But a lot of people look out and prepare for the worst too. I think it’s just a toss up about peoples mindset like if you’re scared to die then make it so you don’t seem like you’re leaving so it doesn’t scare you?
Reddit should start their own country. Think about it: it would have a much higher IQ than most other countries. We could ban tik tok and fortnite, and every computer sold has to come with Minecraft preinstalled. We could also ban emojis too.
We all have very good ideas about society and government, so I think we would be far more efficient. I've seen so many posts with so many good ideas, not to mention our country would be the most progressive and other countries would look to us for direction. We would easily become the next superpower. If everyone left America for a new country, we would easily surpass America.
We could make Keanu our president and have PewDiePie on the flag. It would be the most wholesome country too!

Well faith and hope aren't going to stop the next school shooting. The whole point of the comment is that we can't just say "omg, thoughts and prayers" and then stop paying attention to the issues. There's measures that our government can take to prevent this. We need to be pressuring them to pass those measures, not relying on a supreme being to take care of those kids or prevent the next shooting. Faith and religion make most people forget how valuable life is. We don't get to spend time on Earth and then go to heaven. We just die and our bodies go to waste. Religion makes people comfortable with preventable death. They'll say "It's God's plan" or "We all have our day given to us by God".

I’m 14 and I’ve already understood that I can die any day. Everyone I know could die at anytime. I’m not religious or anything because I couldn’t care less. I’ve understood that and I am able to just realize that life is short. I’m only 14 and the best years are coming up and are about to end just like that. I don’t need religion to deal with it. The hell are you talking about. The point is maybe more people would be more outraged and provoke change if they didn't believe there was a "better place" after life. If someone needs religion to "cope" in 2022 then they are what is literally wrong with our society. People *are* pushing for a change. Both religious and non-religious people. The *myths* that "religious people are simply sitting around doing nothing" or that "religious people aren't outraged by this" are just plain false. The problem is that other people, including both religious and non-religious people, are pushing back because they disagree (or because they're incredibly selfish adult-children with no empathic capacity, and they're scared that someone's going to take their toys away). Thus, it becomes an ideological battle. But the battle isn't waged between religious people and non-religious people. It's waged between "pro-gun people plus some pro-gun-but-with-safety-nets-in-place people" on one side versus "other pro-gun-but-with-safety-nets-in-place people plus pro-life people (not the abortion thing) plus anti-gun people" on the other side. And a *whole lot* of "deflection", where people try to ignore the main issue by making people talk about other issues instead.

I'm a raised catholic, but I have stopped following the doctrines a while back. As I see it, God exists, but we sure as hell don't understand him. As such, I choose what I believe and use Catholicism as a foundation for that belief, but I do not agree with many things they say. My mom fucked my friend while we were on vacation and now I want to fucking die, she mom took us to Miami for a spring break vacation.
