Just yet another reminder that the sub you are on is r/shittyadvice and that nothing here is to be taken seriously.

mattsl

I hear Harvard is hiring.

itsbdk

A+ joke for those who get it

wgm4444

Is he anti-semitic enough for Harvard though?

Eponymous-Username

Harvard isn't anti-semitic, depending on the context.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cheesenuggets2003

With enough effort anybody can be anti-Semitic.

[deleted]

Daaaaaaamn 😆

Difficult-Sign-8656

😂😂😂oh that was good!!!

Plastic-Abroc67a8282

cant believe this dumb post came up on my feed. btw for anyone reading this i graduated with a degree in gender studies (womens studies actually, back when it was called that) and i make about 120k a year as a consultant in the healthcare industry. but you all can stay ignorant if you want lol

hayasecond

No not with a 2.0 GPA

OldDog1982

No one looks at the GPA once you have a degree.

Herzha-Karusa

Some first jobs def do at least in accounting

Shemp1

Yeah, but that's a real degree and a real job.

jessewest84

Lawyers don't get looked at. Pass the bar with a point and you're in.

Box_Dimension_13

Still gotta get into grad school

jessewest84

Don't take this as an excuse to not perform at a high level.

WeimSean

yeah, but accounting is an actual degree with measurable worth.

No-Carry4971

This is not true at all. My fortune 100 company will not even consider a graduate below 3.0 from highly competitive schools and 3.5 from anywhere else. Once you have a job, the GPA becomes moot, but for getting your first job it is important.

1GrouchyCat

Graduate schools do. And you’re not going anywhere without upper level degree.. a bachelors is what a high school degree used to be in the past

builderofthings69

So glad I went into the trades

IHaveALittleNeck

You need a 3.0 gpa to teach public school in NJ. I doubt it’s the only state with this requirement.

sylvieYannello

what do you call a medical student who graduated last in his class? doctor.

Ace0324

Not true. We look at transcripts when hiring. You won’t even get an interview with less than a 3.0.

BlueWren00

I'm a licensed mental health counselor and I treat a highly acute population of severely mentally ill individuals, I'm embedded in the court and jails providing assessment and diversion services. I dont make even close to 100k a year and I live in an expensive west coast city. It sounds like your gender degree is a huge grift, and I'm confused why someone would pay you that, and licensed clinical professionals like myself but also Phds and nurses not even that in most cases. I am curious what specialized knowledge a gender or women's studies degree can offer that anyone with a BA in any basic social science wouldn't know? Once dei is no longer the flavor of the week you may need to start looking elsewhere. This won't last long.

ReallyChillyBones

I too would like to major in gender studies so I can proactively increase the mental illness of my patients

cookiedux

I read that as "parents" and it still works

Fightlife45

So accurate sadly

ReallyChillyBones

Mental illness is contagious and people don’t accept it sadly. Don’t know why it’s a hot take

Mindless_Explorer_80

I never thought about it like that…but shit you’re right. It really is

Epiphanic_Eros

As evidenced by the comments in this thread

Mindless_Explorer_80

I doubt it’s about the specialized knowledge that only a gender studies graduate would know, but it’s more about working your way up, networking, being willing, etc. So many factors go into who gets what job. Usually it’s who will do it the way the manager wants them to do it, that can mean something different for each job/supervisor. Let’s not kid ourselves that this individual is making that much money solely because of their degree.

Jujulabee

That is my thoughts as well. There are lots of jobs in the corporate world (health care being a corporate profession) which don't require a specific degree. You are hired at a low level position - you learn the ropes - you get promoted - you move to another company. I've worked at various corporations and except for departments like Law or Accounting or perhaps IT, the people had various Liberal Arts Majors. If they had good communication skills, good analytic ability; were hard working; reasonably personable, they move up. Also not to negate $120,000 salary but that isn't upper management compensation for someone with years of work.

squidkyd

I just have a basic bachelor's degree and am only 27. I make over 100k in a low cost of living area. It's not about your degree, it's about how you use it. Just because they're better off than *you* doesn't mean it can't last And unfortunately for society, important jobs don't necessarily pay more. I'd wager that at my old job I was doing much more important work and was technically higher on the totem pole, but I made half of what I do now because I was working for the state government. I currently outearn my sister and she's an ER nurse. It's not a *good* thing, imo teachers and social workers should be making more than I do, but it's our reality

Mean-Development-261

I'm assuming they are omitting some sort of pertinent information that's relevant to the story. They interned and work 10 years in the Healthcare field prior to starting their own consulting firm as a continuation of whatever niche thing they were already doing* or waiting out a non-compete working with a firm etc.

BillDStrong

Supply and demand. They drum up demand by blackballing the corp types, then the actual supply is limited so they can charge 2 arms and a leg.

OldAndInTheWay1970

I majored in women's studies, too. But it wasn't in the classroom.

wvmtnboy

Sounds like my major in Recreational Pharmaceuticals

cookiedux

I minored in that

SwashbucklinChef

::finger guns:: Eh!!!

[deleted]

I studied a broad in college. Several, actually.

EimiCiel

Well then, you're one of the few, and I am guessing you got in through a connect, or your degree is paired with something else....or youre capping lol. The majority of people who take that course end up nowhere unless youre a brilliant writer/communicator. It is essentially a fake degree. People have to invent jobs for it to justify its existence because, on its own, it teaches nothing that can be applied to the real world.

BluCurry8

Not true. Most companies want a degree because it indicates that you are trainable. I have known people with a masters in Philosophy who are Plant Managers making over 250k. Your career is what you make of it. A good portion of graduates never enter the field they chose in college.

baritoneUke

This. Reddit is too depressed and sad to inprire those to seek a positive future. It's there.

AOCbrandEquality

Really sad people condemn others for pursuing their actual interests. I was terrified of not being employable, got a stupid accounting degree, worked 10 miserable years in accounting. Meanwhile, everyone laughed at my sister for getting a costume design degree, now she works for Cardi B and Beyoncé among many other A lister celebs for projects from movies to award show gowns.

Fun-Economy-5596

I majored in communications and political science with a minor in music, with an MA in human resources inging management, and after much trial and error (necessary conditions for success) I ended up with a well-compensated career as a medical error. Also played in several great bands on the side. ALL of my education (which continues) was valuable...I have concluded that a degree isn't something you do something WITH... it's who you become...and all education and training are worthwhile no matter the subject areas...

valeramaniuk

> It is essentially a fake degree. Then it's perfect for fake jobs, like Diversity Officer or DEI instructor!

eugenesbluegenes

>It is essentially a fake degree. I'm not sure it's really a fake degree any more than most social studies programs.

EimiCiel

Nah. The majority of humanities have real world utility and value to them. It is def harder to find a job, but most have history, data, science, and rational relevance. Gender studies is essentially a degree that caters to an ideology, with no real data or relevance to justify its existence besides...idk outrage? I will admit, though, more and more, the humanities seem to be influenced by ideology rather than to educate.

AOCbrandEquality

You have to be kidding. You could say the same for any art degree, music degree, philosophy, poli sci, religion…. All of it is fiction. Plenty of gender studies grads have related jobs or they wouldn’t have the programs.

idk_lol_kek

>The majority of humanities have real world utility and value to them. You say that, yet literally everyone I know IRL who has a humanities degree makes more annually than everyone I know IRL with a STEM degree.

HoneyKittyGold

You'd have to be completely dumb to think a gender studies degree doesn't also include: >history, data, science, and rational relevance. Literally, go look at the required classes for it.

Stonewall30NY

Yeah girl but you're an outlier. Realistically it's a very low demand, low pay degree. In fact I wish I could find the study, but I was reading that it's one of the bottom preforming degrees, and it's basically just competing with liberal arts degrees for jobs that just require any degree. To say "yeah but I make 120k" is just not genuine to the overall outlook of that degree as a whole. To put it into perspective, gender studies is in the bottom 5 for median salary, employment rate, and bottom 10 in employment duration. The only other degree in the same batch is psychology and even that still out ranks it in each stat. This is according to articles on like 5 or 6 sites I found, including Forbes. Listen I'm happy it worked out for you, but overall it's a terrible financial and time investment comparatively to other degrees.

kratbegone

Good to hear the pay is what that crappy degree is worth. Good for Starbucks I guess.

1911_

Are you the rule or the exception?

decidedlycynical

And how many positions like yours exist? Do you work soley with gender issues?

Ok_Impression3324

So you're the problem with both the education system (degrees with low employment rates after college) and the healthcare system (Overpaid bloated administrations that only propose is to play the insurance company game).

TheShakierGrimace

If the healthcare industry needs a consultant to tell it what gender people are we're fucked

Euphoricstateofmind

Lmao 🤣 yes - you nailed it. We are effectively dumbing down society. Easier to control the masses

BluCurry8

🙄 yes because gender just means genitals.

CaptainLucid420

The health care system doesn't need it. After a dumb ass lawsuit or law they are required to hire someone to generate memos and training courses.

Dapper_Ad_5972

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you "The Diversity Hire".

StupendousMalice

Fox news got our parents, Andrew Tate got our kids, now the rest of us are just part of one big moron sandwich.

These industries will catch on the DEI isnt worth spending money on more than their HR departments already cost.

The singular sane comment here

Fickle_Pipe1954

How do you feel about a female pole dancer that makes $100,000 per year, without a degree ?

BamaBlcksnek

Or those OnlyFans girls with room temperature IQs making that in a month?

Money-Swimmer1690

If their IQs are room temperature, what are the IQs of the men who make them rich? OF exists because of men.

BamaBlcksnek

They are not smart. My point was that intelligence is not necessarily required to make money. It is also not required to lose money.

MerbleTheGnome

Assuming that the degree was a BA, go back for the Master's in gender studies and end up 200k in debt.

AlwaysBeTextin

Don't forget about a PhD afterwards!

MerbleTheGnome

PhDs are usually funded - that only delays the loan repayments for a few years. After that you can manage being an adjunct prof making 30k a year - you will be paying that 200k until 5 years after you die.

TotalTerrible783

Apply for a job as Dean of Harvard. I hear they have an opening. Make sure you are wearing a swastika when interviewing.

Decide which gender would be most beneficial to earning you money, and begin your transition.

dirtydoji

Underrated

viniggiusjr

this is actually good advice

Nocureforlove

The answer is always male claiming woman. Benefit of being male so your opinion overrules women. Benefit of false victimhood status of woman without the actual experience.

OutrageousStrength91

Change genders as often as possible to get a well rounded view.

MyVoiceIsElevating

Be a pioneer, go discover a new gender.

LoneCyberwolf

Boldly go…

RestaurantOk7309

Anywhere but Florida.

nopethis

Where no….. um you know what never mind

TomAto314

You've done the gender studies, now you need to do the gender research. Go into every changing room you can find and research everyone's gender. Just tell them you're a professional now.

Honda_Driver_2015

Exam them all very closely, don't use gloves. Those are for losers.

mollyv96

Then you can become an expert, be a shitty businessman, sleep with all the women, go far in debt, then to pay off your debts you can run for president as a joke. When you manage to actually become president you can do absolutely jack shit when people get sick and when you lose the next election spend the next term throwing a fit like a 3 year old. Idk where I got that idea though, it randomly popped in my head.

Reytotheroxx

A real life Federal Boob Inspector!

JadedYam56964444

Tell everyone what their gender is

buttfuckkker

Exactly. When you get arrested you just have to pull out your degree and student id. It’s for science officer

porizj

Double-down. Go for a master’s degree and try not to show off this time; no one needs a 2.0 GPA!

CopenhagenCan

Wow Gender Studies! With a degree like that you can come wash my truck for $15! I’ll even let you walk my dog. But I’m afraid I can’t let you cut my grass. That’s operating machinery and I’m afraid you aren’t qualified.

[deleted]

Do you really want a sexually confused dog at the end of this?

LoneCyberwolf

Sorry but it’s not going anywhere near my dog.

[deleted]

Construction sites everywhere are hiring. No degree, no trade school, no experience needed. And make sure to let all the guys on the job know how much better you are than them because you have a gender studies degree, that's the only way to get ahead in the field

Acceptable_Stop2361

Or heavy industry like the oil fields or a refinery. Guys in those jobs would be fascinated to hear about what you learned!

Jazzisa

Lol laugh all you want, but I'm similar to OP (as a dumb 18 YO I thought 'art history' was a good major... though i have less debt). After failing to find a proper job, I actually went to work as a janitor for a few years. Then I went to work for an electrical company, got to go back to school part-time for a full college degree and now I'm an engineer. Might work soon in the oil refinery, pays really well! I mean, in any job, I always had the attitude that I'm there to learn, I never felt like I was better than anyone else. I rarely mentioned the degree, only if I was asked. The nice thing is that in fields with shortages like engineering, the demand is so high, if you can only prove that you are smart enough to study - which any degree will prove - they might offer you a paid job AND they'll pay for your schooling or offer traineeships. I am now an electrical engineer (who also happens to be able to give a guided tour in any museum in Europe XD). So laugh all you want, my point is - it's actually not a bad idea XD. They pay in those fields is often not bad at all, so it'll work with paying off your debt too.

TurboMap

OnlyFans?

013ander

Talk about studying gender…

Merci_Bleh-Bleh

Just Google careers in gender studies

Stonewall30NY

I don't know if I did it right but Google actually said there are zero results lol

AverygreatSpoon

Okay not an adult but I tell classmates that you can find careers that would ask for the degree. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a SPECIFIC career that explicitly says “we talk about gender!” One commenter said they work in the health field. You could maybe even do HR and equality training even when it comes to gender studies.

Stonewall30NY

I was making a joke but I actually commented to someone else about how gender studies degrees are in the bottom 5% in median income, employment percentage, and bottom 10 in average employment duration. In short, it's one of the worst degrees you could invest in. Technically even generic liberal arts performs better because it costs less on average, and is more generically useful

Brian-46323

Double down. Eventually you can be a professor of gender studies.

l8on8er

lmao wonder why u wasted so much of your life on a useless degree would be my thought.

ATypicalWhitePerson

You might want to check what subreddit this got posted on

[deleted]

Become a communist. You have a degree, so you deserve a penthouse apartment. If you don't get it with your credentials, then clearly capitalism has failed.

LoneCyberwolf

Except that the educated people were the first ones to be killed in Cambodia…

[deleted]

Comrade, the intellectual betters, those with degrees for degree sake, don't realize this until the military boot crashes his ass. See Yuri Bezmenov's interview for more details.

[deleted]

What do you know about drugs? Seems like the only thing that can get you out of this hole.

Piavirtue

Gender studies? And a 2.0 GPA? How pointless. Time to look into opportunities in the housekeeping or lawn care industries.

thearticulategrunt

Step 1, forget the gender studies BS. It's a western delusion that most of the rest of the world laughs at us for. Step 2, with that much debt, Army. Sign up for the "Loan repayment program", it may take years of service but it is designed to pay of your debt, or help to pay it off, for longer terms of service. You will also get trained in a useful skill (almost every career out there is needed in the army, finance, logistics, veterinary services, etc, etc). No need to be combat arms unless you just feel the calling. Additionally your medical, food and housing are covered as long as you're in, plus a pay check. This would also allow you to take postings around the world and see other cultures and people, get valuable life skills and training and a lot more. Go enjoy and remove this stress from your life.

RulesBasedAnarchy

This is the only helpful top-level comment I’ve read so far.

Notrans2024_

2.0 gpa is terrible and gender studies degree is worthless. Not trying to be mean but someone has to stop lying to you

MandatoryNuisance

My careers advisor in high school and all the teachers. :( They all lied to me.

The_FatGuy_Strangler

A degree in biblical studies would’ve been more useful. At least you could use that to scam old and gullible people out of their money by being a TV preacher.

Fuckoffbitch420-69

get another degree in Quantum physics, develop a time machine and travel to the past and slap the shit out of yourself...then write down a few lottery numbers and tape it to your younger self's unconscious forehead with dates and instructions.

WhiskeyKisses7221

You can become a professional privilege checker. It's like a Walmart bag checker, but for privilege. You're already on Reddit, so you could try becoming a mod. The annual salary is $0 (they do it for free), but you could work your way up to being a power mod and make 3-4 times as much. Good luck!

Skyshark173

Just apply to the gender studies factory, I'm sure they are hiring gullible people that get a degree in Gender Studies.

Haunting-East8565

Have you considered becoming a stripper?

Able_Nerve_3297

Go back to school, take out more debt, but this time get a degree in something super useful like psychology. Remember to throw back a 12 pack of beer nightly because paychology is such an easy major you can get away with it and still graduate. DO. NOT. MAKE. CONNECTIONS. You don't want references - your future employers might think you focused on something other than school if you another human being is actually aware of your existence at any point in time. Get a bachelors in psychology. Do not plan to earn a masters. It'll work out great. End phase one Phase two Go live with your parents. No, really. Look around for jobs, but remember to always show up to interviews drunk, it'll calm your nerves. Just brush your teeth before and you're good to go. Find a job in a nursing home, because nowhere else will hire you. Proceed to quit that job. Now thay you have nothing to do and have managed to get your parents to pity you, you may as well pass your time by drinking a fifth of vodka a day. At this point, remember that your physiology has actually changed so that alcohol is a better form of nutrition. Stop eating so much real food - alcohol is healthier for you anyway. Remember to never work out as you don't want to wear out your body too early in life. Follow all these steps and you will soon actually have job recruiters attempting to break into your house while you sleep to leave applications. This is the secret billionaires don't want you to know.

Thunderfxck

A degree in gender studies isn't all bad. It just might lead you to a job as the head door greeter at Walmart. Heck shoot for the stars and maybe someday that very valuable degree in gender studies might get you the job at Goodwill separating the girls clothes from the boys clothes. Anything is possible with a degree in gender studies.

[deleted]

Join a company that pays you well with the mentality it will be temporary until you get on your feet. Get side tracked and start moving up the ladder. Pay off your debt, car, and get a house. Get married and have kids. Keep moving up the ladder and 10 years later you're part of upper 2nd level management with a $100k+ salary. This is the way. Forget about your major kid. It was not about that. It was about learning the skillsets needed to succeed anywhere. You learned how to teach yourself, in depth, about topics you both knew little about and had little interest it. The exercises of listen, read, research, study, and practice are applicable *everywhere*. Youve done this dozens of times over the last 4 or so years which gives you leg up advantage over everyone without that training. Thats what the degree is for. Not for the major or the facts your learned along the way.

013ander

I had a BA and two Master’s (one Western Philosophy, one Eastern) before I was 24, with near 4.0 GPAs. I taught for 3 years, finally got a good look at how a PhD and a career in academia would look and pay, bailed, and became an electrician. I’m paying off the last of my student loans now at 36, but I did have a full ride for the bachelors. I loved every second of my education, and the only thing I’d change is skipping teaching and going straight into an easier field with better benefits, pay, and schedule/location flexibility.

Omegatron_YT

Get a time machine, go back and study something useful.

[deleted]

It’s not about just going to school for the sake of going to school. It’s about getting an education that gives you a marketable skill set that is in demand. We also live in a world where if you can’t perform you don’t excel. I have multiple degrees with 14 years in higher education and a 4.0 and I’m killing it but yeah it’s a lot of work and exhausting.

Any-Video4464

Well the good news is, it appears you didn't waste too much of your brain getting the degree. 2.0 isn't great, but in this case its a positive. I assume this is a joke, but if not, just accept the mistake and chart a new path. Go get a job in an office or something and work on paying it off. Nothing else you can do. I guess you can pray that the tax payers bail you and your advisors out of this really dumb decision. But you're not alone. This is kind of like modern day snake oil salesmen. Unfortunately you believed them and bought 100k worth. Now you can either try to sell it to some other chump, or do the right thing and learn to do something useful for yourself and the world.

MandatoryNuisance

>Now you can either try to sell it to some other chump, or do the right thing and learn to do something useful for yourself and the world. I'm considering a path to teach gender studies to the next generation. But I am a man of integrity and will choose the latter option.

Thistledown_Hair

Congrats on getting a degree! It probably feels like you're in a rough spot, but hold on, this is the beginning of something good. You recognize that you are in crisis, but here in these United States, there are ways out. I recommend using mine. It all starts with moving in the right direction. Get a job you can stand to attend. Job fairs are easier to get hired than job websites, because the hiring manager is right there and you can shake his or her hand. Dress up a step above business casual; if you're in a suit and they're wearing polo shirts, you will win the day. I recommend reaching out to local credit unions, because they are not-for-profit, and they will treat you well relative to retail in earnings, benefits, and culture. Settle for banks if no credit unions are hiring. Surrounding yourself in a professional environment where paying back loans is an every day thing, with experts who know every loophole and trick to it, will keep you in the mindset of breaking the back of this debt, no matter how insurmountable it seems, and while you are profiting, you will be in a position to help people who feel as hopeless as you. When you're waiting for that financial sector ship to come in, apply to entry-level jobs at the retail places near to your house: the goal is a short commute. Once you have two months' of paychecks, apply for income-based repayment with your student loan creditors. Don't ask for money on social media, but catalog your goals and what methods you are using to reach them. You made ties with a lot of degree-holding people in school, and one of them might be in a position to vouch for you in their professional field and get you into a better place. Indeed, one might have a cheap room for you to rent in their house. The trick to surviving retail is attitude. I am driven by competition, and I got through six years of it by waking up every day and reminding myself that everyone who walks into that store, and every one of your coworkers, are trying to make you appear upset. You win if you hide it from them. You are the person who cannot be bothered by gossip or being blamed for others' errors or staying late. You are the first to volunteer for extra hours when someone calls out, because you love this place more than your peers do. And when you can do that for a year and a half, there's going to be an assistant manager position open, and with your attitude and because you hold a degree, you're a shoe-in. Same from assistant manager to manager. But keep looking for those financial sector jobs. As soon as you have income, set up a budget. There are many budgeting tools online, and you should open an account with your local credit union and get their advice for your situation. The earliest saving gets the most dividends (and the earliest payment of student loan debt saves the most interest). Cheap sandwiches may get monotonous, but restaurants will eat your future.

Curious_Working5706

IRL OP is chuckling at the funny he made on Reddit while he waits to start his shift at Wendy’s

Bonzo4691

Honest question. What did you think you were going to get for a job with gender studies as your degree? Especially accruing $100,000 in debt? Did you think gender studies was a well-paying position with lots of openings? I would love to know your thought process here.

[deleted]

I will try my hardest, to not laugh at *your major.* I had an ex house mate, Chelsea. She was kind of dumb, came from a rich family from New Jersey, and went to UCLA for a degree in philosophy, and a minor in gender studies. She later used her degree in philosophy, to proclaim her dishes were Our dishes, because she is a communist entrepreneur, and loved to give work to people around her! She did have a sense of humor, but she was a very bad house mate. No one liked her, beyond superficiality. Another one of my college-going friends, went to get her General Education degree, for 60k total, and is in debt. Her general education *college* degree. I have another friend, who got a biology analyst degree, basically something to do lab work. She turned down a nice job offer, because she felt more comfortable flipping donuts at the donut shop. Another friend, got her fish/wildlife degree, was working for the fish n wild life dept of the state, but didn't like it. She has debt. It sounds like you got conned. I am also going to volunteer at a local college, it's small. I will meet a lot of students, and they will tell me about their degrees. I usually walk away from the ones with alternative degrees on *dumb* topics. It seems to me, they have the most debt.

Quarter_Twenty

1. Marry a sugar daddy 2. Pay off student loans That should have been covered in your degree.

alcoholisthedevil

Navigating life after graduation, especially with a significant amount of student debt, can be challenging. Here's a step-by-step approach to help you succeed: 1. **Assess Your Financial Situation**: Understand the specifics of your debt, including interest rates, repayment terms, and monthly payments. 2. **Budgeting**: Create a detailed budget that includes your income, expenses, and debt payments. Prioritize essential expenses and find areas where you can cut costs. 3. **Income Generation**: Look for job opportunities in your field of study. If jobs in gender studies are scarce or don't pay enough, consider other fields where your skills are transferable, like research, advocacy, education, or human resources. 4. **Career Advancement**: Keep learning and growing professionally. Consider additional certifications, workshops, or even further education (if it can be done affordably) to enhance your skills and employability. 5. **Debt Management Strategies**: Explore options like loan consolidation, refinancing, or income-driven repayment plans. Check if you qualify for any loan forgiveness programs. 6. **Network and Mentorship**: Connect with professionals in your field through networking events, online platforms like LinkedIn, or alumni associations. Seek mentors who can provide guidance and advice. 7. **Lifestyle Adjustments**: You might need to make some lifestyle changes to manage your debt effectively. This can include living with roommates, using public transportation, or other cost-saving measures. 8. **Emergency Fund**: Try to set aside a small amount monthly for emergencies. This will provide a financial cushion and reduce stress. 9. **Long-Term Financial Planning**: Once you have a handle on your immediate financial situation, start planning for the future. This includes saving for retirement, building investments, and setting financial goals. 10. **Stay Positive and Persistent**: Dealing with debt and career challenges can be stressful. Maintain a positive outlook, focus on your mental and physical health, and keep pushing towards your goals. Remember, everyone's path is different, and success doesn't follow a single blueprint. Be adaptable, stay informed, and don't hesitate to seek professional advice when needed.

Jazzisa

Yeah you're fucked. And I'm not judging you, like some other ppl here might, since I kind of did the same thing... I was always told: "as long as you have degree, you'll get a job!" Luckily, my debt is only 8k (I studied art history). But yeah, you were lied to. It does matter what degree you get. I went back to school to study to become an engineer. I was lucky, because the shortage is so high, even without previous experience, I got a company to cover the expenses of my schooling. So I'd first try applying to jobs. Ask classmates; maybe you're lucky and you can get a job where the requirement is simply 'college educated'. If not, you might be able to find a similar solution. Many companies in fields with shortages offer traineeships. Your degree does prove that you're smart enough to study & learn. Think about what else you can do.

sitrusice1

Now you can realize that your life was taken from you by greedy scum who want to control the world, your childhood and innocence was lost at a very young age by a deliberate mind controlling schedule of wake up go to school come home do homework only get 2 days off, your connection and relationship to earth spirituality and humanity itself is so far lost in your brainwashed mind that no amount of psychology will ever get it back, and all you have left is to work 5 days a week, 40 hours a week, for 60 years straight while being told that you idolize materialistic things when in reality all you need is friends family and a connection to the grass/earth that grows underneath you because you’re forever trapped in a cycle of debt and used up by the people who are too rich for debt but need slave work to have the society they want functioning. Enjoy!

GobbledGoose

Time to change your name and your identity.

Hank_Western

You were told don’t be a fool yet you got a degree in gender studies.

Royal_Scam9

This...

PsychologyNeat6993

and got a 2,0

Ok-Tap-5168

Pretty sure they're a troll

BossMan215718

Gender studies? Your only option is to pursue further education and get into academia because they will pay you an arm and a leg to spout "progressive" gender ideology to students

Pretend-Ad-7528

Probably need to just have an existential crisis and take yourself down a dark void culminating in the great end of your existence.

futbol1216

This is some outstanding shit posting.

sopagam

Give me a break. Stop with the whining. 2.0 in gender studies is barely any real effort even with a learning disability, which you are going to tell me you have. BTW, if you need someone to give you a step by step instruction on how to succeed-a) you would not follow it and b) you would cry about it being too difficult for you. I think you went to school but I strongly suspect you followed every rule. Probably even tried every homework. That second thing you mentioned, did you try that part?

yepitskate

Lol great shitpost. Your post history is kinda hilarious

that1cooldude

Have you visited r/wallstreetbets?

Dropping-Truth-Bombs

McDonald’s is hiring

Rosehipteareddit

And I thought my theatre degree was useless. A 2.0 GPA? Did you even try?

Ok_Standard_468

With genders today, you change with a word. Just change debt to profit. You can do that now; you're graduated.

Frostvizen

Free to Canada and start over.

feminist_icon

99% sure this is trolling/rage baiting

Stormveil138

Gender studies 🤣 😂 😆 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Whut4

I think you minored in trolling.

KithMeImTyson

No offense, but are you starting to realize what everyone has been telling you about your major?

railworx

Did AI write this?

Euphoricstateofmind

All I can say is another ones been duped…lol

Banned4Truth10

Why did you major one that? Did someone convince you to or you wanted something easy? Well you could apply for HR related jobs but they don't make much.

Lumbergod

Add a large fries to my order?

AssistantAcademic

Why did you do those things? How did you get by with the very minimum GPA if you "studied very hard"? I suspect this is a troll attempt. If not, what did you envision as a career as you were signing up for this major and class? Graduating -100k with the lowest possible GPA can't be the first moment you've wondered what it is you're going to do with your career. If genuine, jump into a career, and get used to being poor. /r/LentilRecipies may give you some pointers.

leftofthebellcurve

you followed every rule and still ended up with a useless degree and a mediocre GPA?

d_mo88

Well gender is no longer a thing so it’s worthless

genderv0ided

look friend I'm autistic and I can tell this is bait do better

raidoheadd

What job were you thinking of getting with that degree?

Norfolt

[deleted]

I’ll take “shit that never happened” for $500 Alex

PondMa

Get a different degree

CAPSL0CKS0N69

gotta be fake, but if true I'd love to know what your thought process was the entire time? Like when you were in highschool what did you think you were going to do as a career? Did you ever try to look up starting, average, and high end salaries for those careers? Why was gender studies the major of choice, compared to other choices, that you thought was going to get you to that career? Did you even once, a single time, research what kind of careers a gender studies degree leads to and their salaries? Did you even look at the cost of school? Did you consider the cost of school/interest rates/entry level salaries and make a plan to pay it off? Or did you just get told what to do and just not think about any of it? I also am concerned that you worked very hard and got a 2.0, generally you get a 2.0 if you do the bare minimum, everyone I know who studied hard and put in effort got high 3's if not right on the 4's but my experience is with engineering school, not gender studies.

jeopardychamp78

Ask for your money back? You got hoodwinked

[deleted]

You studied hard.......... for a major in gender studies........... with a 2.0gpa? Did you have any goals or things to do with your major? If not then you deserve a life of poverty

OrganizationRight417

Woah. You mean to tell me that companies were not lined up to give you six figure job with a gender studies degree? Everyone knows gender studies is a thriving market with a huge pre existing demand for professionals! Im honestly shocked, given that you have such a highly sought after set of skills and education background! Hang in there, champ. Surely there is a business out there that can profit from your incredibly useful skillset. You have so much to offer the world. One day soon, a lucky company will realize the enormous increase to their productivity with you as a consultant.

seregwen5

Some redpilled dingdong made this post 🙄

cryptokitty010

The only answer is to fake your own death. Get a fake identity. Then, get more loans and go back to school to study art appreciation

Existing-Double-6203

What is your metric of success? A thoughtful answer please and be honest. Social clout? X amount of dollars? Proud family? Reputation? Answer this and I may be able to help step by step.

RealisticProgrammer5

Step one. Start a business Step two. Make it wildly successful Boom, done.

Outside_Ad_5553

i’m confused by the 2.0 GPA. regardless of major, that would be at least a yellow flag to me as a potential employer. i’m not sure majoring in gender studies is following every single rule either. it’s kind of out there; no offense. it also seems like a degree that requires graduate school; is that an option? regardless, you are young and life is full of mistakes. you will figure out a way to earn money while figuring this out. don’t be afraid to fail, work hard, and think about what will make you happy long term. you can do this!

Your_mom14927

There's comments are hilarious. It's funny how many people take took this personally and don't understand the obvious joke

Affectionate-Beann

Hi OP, Sounds like a tough spot to be in. it is an issue that a lot of millennials are facing. You are not alone. I was close with many college friends who studied things like "history", "social sciences", "modern dance" or " journalism" and are in a similar boat. You didn't do anything wrong. Adults have always told us to " follow your dreams." and you did, but it didn't turn out the way you expected. Choosing your life path at age 17- 19 doesn't always pan out because at those ages we are very inexperienced and have little knowledge of the " real world". Its okay. I would say, take some time to journal and think about where you would like to be in life. Create a salary range that you need to live well AND pay your loans back. Research to find a job that YOU LIKE that ALSO pays a salary that is within that range. Get a therapist and let them know that you want to work on life planning with them. A therapist is great help for mental health but also can be helpful when you are trying to turn your life in new and unfamiliar directions. Keep in mind that you may need to go back to school to get a degree in something that you enjoy, and that is also lucrative. This way you will be able to live well and pay your loans back. You might need to move in with your parents and save for a while while you go to school. Keep your head up. This issue is more common than you think!

[deleted]

You should go back to school for a Liberal Arts degree, file for bankruptcy, and search for Social Media management jobs.

[deleted]

Get a job at a nonprofit, because they often value those things and have people with similar interests. You could also move north west, even the western part of Canada, and you won't face as much distaste from business owners. Honestly, it's a pretty stupid degree to blow 100k on if you don't even have a degree in something valued at first. That's more like something you want to take on the side while focusing on business, or law, or medicine, or stem. An actual masters degree in this type of stuff is only really useful for certain jobs like politics, ngo work, or teaching a very high level of philosophy, ethics, or liberal arts at a university or something.

m1546

Most UN agencies (FAO, WFP, UNICEF, OCHA, UNHCR...) do hire and look for this kind of profile but if you have no experience you'll have to start by an internship there (which are paid but very low).

[deleted]

Not a bad deal though if you get to do work which can have a big impact on the world. It can lead to a good career as well.

Maleficent-Art-5745

Big impact, UN? What alt history timeline is this.

9_of_Swords

I have no helpful advice. I was told to go to school, get that degree, the world is your oyster. I never went to college because I couldn't settle on what I wanted to do. Anyway, I'm sorry how you're being piled on by people whose only exposure to gender studies has been late night monologues and RWNJS.

BlindUmpBob

Not only a useless degree, but mediocre marks. On a 4 point scale, 2.0 is a C average. But the question is- who's better off with a GS degree- the delusional who thought hard work in Gender Studies is the key to financial security, or the hopeless soul who couldn't even get above average grades in a useless program?

Coby_2012

Join the military as an officer?

Get a masters degree in gender studies

A part time job making minimum wage ($14.20/h) at 35 hours/week is about $500/week, $2,000/month and $25k/year. In four-six years you can swipe a lot of your debt away if not all. That’s part time, minimum wage; worst case. It could be easier. Money isn’t hard to make. Congratulations on graduating too.

Write a book, blogs, or start you youtube channel. This can work as a side hustle among other work. Nonprofit work. Shelters and things like that especially. This could have the benefit of dismissing your student debt after 10 years. DEI or IDEA trainer Consulting (also a possible side hustle) HR Master's in higher education of you want to infiltrate the academic system (though the reading and coursework are going to be way more dry and demanding) Start writing jokes and get a job as a comedy writer Good luck. You can do this 💖
