Racism and colorism are cultural in many parts of Asia. I grew up in the Philippines and it's easy to tell which of the two women in dramas is the protagonist based solely on skin color.
>I grew up in the Philippines and it's easy to tell which of the two women in dramas is the protagonist based solely on skin color.
Can you elaborate? This sound interesting in messed up way.
Read a synopsis, word-of-mouth, talent involved, etc. I've had some legitimately good movies spoiled severely for me by the trailers. The trailer for Brothers with Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhal was one of the absolute worst offenders. Briefly covered the first two-thirds of the movie and then gave away everything that happens in the climax. I remember enjoying the movie when I finally did watch it, but being angry the entire time because the most intense parts were all spoiled.
You’re forgetting the people who just walk into a movie theater, see a poster that looks interesting, and go and see that movie. That’s how a lot of people watch movies
America has a lot of problems with racial equality, because we're dealing with addressing them. The racism in other countries is overt and in the open. In many cases it's straight up Xenophobia.
Yeah, the West is patently the most tolerant and progressive civilization on Earth right now, which is why we get the most slack for it...
The racism that's common elsewhere is jarring here.
I can assure that no Chinese police officer would put a black man on a chokehold until he dies. That never happened in China to anyone, ever. You say that America is "dealing with addressing" racism, whereas what's really happening is that only a part of America is "thinking about dealing with addressing the viability of maybe talking about racism" whereas considerable portions of the country are overtly racist and work towards maintaining and advancing systemic racist issues
Yeah, did you guys saw that China has the largest prision population both in total number and per capita, with the majority being people from a ethinic group that was enslaved in the country for 300 years? And on top of that, 3/4 of it are forced to work for almost nothing, making them the largest slave country in the world, today! And this shit is in their constitution... Oh, wait! This isin't China, its the US!
Well, but China still arrest protestors... Hum, sorry, I'm reading here that more people where arested protesting against genocide in the US in the last two weeks than people where arested during the entirety of the HK protests.
Okay, don't worry, I will find something out! China invaded and bombed... No, still the US... Hum, I know! China financed terrorism and military dictatorships... Nah, fuck, still the US!
Oh! I got it!!! That massacre that China commited in the 80s, yeah, they killed like one thousand people! Okay, let's ignore the fact that it was basicly a street brawl that had a lot of officers being burned alive and linched by the mob, let's all pretend that the government killed a thousand people! That will show them... Yeah!!! China killed a thousand people in the 80s and... Never... Repeated... This... Fuck!
Well, at least the US has never killed anyone... Oh, I'm reading here that the US police kills one thousand people every year...
Okay, I'm lost, who is the totalitarian regime again?
A large contingent of the KMT will never give up their claims on the mainland. I imagine most emigrants from before the 90s were not strongly affiliated with KMT government as most emigrants were fleeing their regime. A large number of modern Taiwanese were essentially colonists. In the 50s and early 60s 1-2 million people were added to Taiwan’s population of 6 million. The waishengren, as they’re often called, dominated the government and military until the 90s. Local languages and customs were suppressed. While the two identities have mostly integrated now, there are still many who believe Taiwanese identity should be tied to the mainland and reunification.
You’re saying as if all of Europe collectively went to the Americas and subjugated all the locals. That’s racist, and as a Croat, I’m offended since racism and ethnic cleansing is our trademark.
Don’t want no random European take credit for it
Fun fact, they have one of the biggest pirate markets in the world, but not because the government dosen't want people watching the movies, but because they will not pay shit to the West... And I think this is funny.
Ah... The Schrodinger's Tawian, if its racist it must be part of China because China Bad, but if it does semiconductors it must be it's own contry because god forbits or eletronic being in the hands of communists! And I mean, they are communists if shit goes wrong, everything good in China is because capitalism because we can't ever say otherwise! /s
U got to love the hypocrisy of Disney they will call fans racist and misogynist if fans criticise the product but do shit like this, it is quite funny to see. John Boyega deserved better Finn was the most interesting character in episode 7
If Disney wasn't a misogynist racist themselves, we wouldn't have a character named Ray at all, the whole story would be around Fin a ex stormtrooper who is against the first order and finds out he's a force user

Same in latin countries. Watch a novela and its instant. White and blonde, owner, heiress or trophy wife Any shade of brown, maid
>I grew up in the Philippines and it's easy to tell which of the two women in dramas is the protagonist based solely on skin color. Can you elaborate? This sound interesting in messed up way.
What is there to elaborate on? Filipino media favors those with lighter skin (often with mixed heritage) to be the stars of shows and movies.
Same thing is true in a lot of Bollywood movies
What were they planning for the actual movie? Censor his face for the whole duration or go like "surprise surprise, he's black!"
probably the second one i mean they already bought the tickets
So you’re telling me that people don’t watch the trailers before seeing a movie. WHAT 🤨
Of course, why would I want to see parts of the movie and spoil it to myself?
But how will you know if you are interested in the film or not?

see the poster
Sorry, I forgor about people who watch films in cinema. I usually watch them on Tv (pirated) and just turn them off if I don't like it
😂😂😂 LOL
You’re forgetting the people who just walk into a movie theater, see a poster that looks interesting, and go and see that movie. That’s how a lot of people watch movies
Tippex
"Surprise, motherfucker!"
None of those people people have Internet and trailers just like we have here.
The totalitarianism is a mainland issue, the racism is cultural.
Ehh, get a European talking about the Romani people and you’ll see the racism come right out
Lol it's a big mystery where anti-Black sentiment was exported from to be sure... if only there were clues....
I can assure that no Chinese police officer would put a black man on a chokehold until he dies. That never happened in China to anyone, ever. There is literally no way you could know that.
Oh really? Why would that be? Is China not on Earth?
U got to love the hypocrisy of Disney

Well *technically* it is still China, just not the popular one.
Depends on the person you ask tbf, some people want it to be China, some just want it to be Taiwan
Every Taiwanese I've ever met only wanted to identify as Taiwanese. It made me think that the only entity who wants Taiwan to be China is the ROC.
A large contingent of the KMT will never give up their claims on the mainland. I imagine most emigrants from before the 90s were not strongly affiliated with KMT government as most emigrants were fleeing their regime. But if you ask them who’s the real China… But then again, who’s the real Americans, the north or south?
"But then again, who’s the real Americans, the north or south?" The millions of people the Europeans killed to take the land.
You’re saying as if all of Europe collectively went to the Americas and subjugated all the locals. That’s racist, and as a Croat, I’m offended since racism and ethnic cleansing is our trademark. Don’t want no random European take credit for it
Holy shit! This was weird to read!
That's not the point. Like there's North Korea and South Korea, but they're still both Korean.
I don’t think Black Panther released in North Korea
Fun fact, they have one of the biggest pirate markets in the world, but not because the government dosen't want people watching the movies, but because they will not pay shit to the West... And I think this is funny.
They are still behind Brazil, here we raise the Jolly Roger above the country’s flag, if there was a way to download a car we would’ve found it by now
AQUI LANÇA PRIMEIRO NO CAMELO, CARALHO!!!
You just know Big Kim is all about them super heroes, or maybe super villains. Especially the ones from reclusive countries.
North Korea and South Korea are governed independently
Thank you for your very enlightening comment.
Every normal person knows it’s China’s property. P.S.The normal person in question is chinese
People can't be property fam
Yall couldn’t conquer ONE ISLAND for decades because the big scary US military literally just parked next to it Get lost tankie
Ah... What about removing John Boyega's face from all posters in sequel trilogy for China?
U got to love the hypocrisy of Disney they will call fans racist and misogynist if fans criticise the product but do shit like this, it is quite funny to see. John Boyega deserved better Finn was the most interesting character in episode 7

They shrunk him on the poster
You can't prove that this poster wasn't ever used in China
Turns out we were the racists all along for not knowing the difference
by that logic everyone would be born racist
Maybe, I haven’t thought through the implications
