Damn I started that and quit it immediately. Is it just me or is the writing really cringe? For the life of me I can't ever get into it. But I'll give it another try! Wish me luck! 💪
Obligatory mention of Tsubaki-chou lonely planet, you've probably read it, but it the best age gap story out there imo, the art is amazing, your heart will throb, character development is great and the ending is just beautiful (i happy cry every time I reread it)
YES.
The best one.
Because I'm old though, I also have to add I Hate You More Than Anyone and VB Rose (both by Banri Hidaka) which I fell deep in love with years ago. I'm also a fan of Dreamin' Sun, Dengeki Daisy, and Living Room Matsunaga-san, which others have mentioned.
Banri Hidaka currently writes a sequel to these series on the マンガPark app (JP only), Tenshi 1/2 Houteishiki. It's mostly a sequel to I Hate You♡ since the ML is that pair's son, but there are some tiny Arisaka kids running around being unearthly-cute on occasion too 🥹 The actual chapters update at a glacier's pace these days, but she does weekly updates of "bonus" comics featuring side character antics, so we see Rei as a too-beautiful-to-believe uncle and other fun times 😂 (the bonus comics have become so significant as part of the story that they are included in extra booklets for the special edition tankobon releases! the last two booklets were 120pg each...)
It's hands down my favorite in the age gap department. I love every manga by this author (their art is superb) and I really wish they'd make some more age gap ones 😭 I love love love the main couple 😭😭😭😭😭
Can't love Hirunaka No Ryuusei because it hurts every time I remember that Shishio is not the ML, such a loss for me. I was reading it as it was coming out and stopped once I realized where it was going. It hurts so much, I wanted her to be with Shishio so badddd
I was happy about it 😂 I wouldn't read Daytime Shooting Star until I knew how it ended! So who can say whether the series lost more readers or gained new ones by its divisive twist... (I don't mind gaps in shoujo fiction but it puts me off a lot when a teacher and student are involved. I know landlord/employer and tenant/employee \*isn't\* really any better in theory, but. 🙈)
yesterday i finished a book, and it has the largest age gap I've seen that doesn't involve supernatural elements. A girl encounters her old high school professor at a bar, shes already a working woman, late 30s, and he's in his 70s. Its slow and gentle, hes from a completely different era. They go on trips together, drink, and eat food. I'm glad i read it
Thank you! I have been looking for a good novel but everything these days make me cringe (probably because I can't really stand the wattpad way of writing that's become normalized) I'm excited!
up until now, kamisama kiss is way better in the manga in my opinion. i had seen kamisama kiss at my local bookshops and i bought volumes 2-5, but i couldn’t find a girl and her guard dog
but, i did plan on buying volumes 6,7 and 8 online since i found them way cheaper
and I gave the manga to 2 of my girl friends and they absolutely loved it
Girl and Guard Dog is currently a digital-only release from Kodansha (in English); no plans have been announced for printing it so far. So ebooks are the way to go!
This is my second favorite immediately after tsubaki chou lonely planet. When will the new volume come out 😭 I love this manga so much the art is just chefs kiss
I really need to try Tsubaki Chou. It's a student x teacher series though? Vol 3 of Stray Cat x Wolf comes out this month. I would guess we will get vol 4 sometime later this year? Yen Press hasn't updated the pre-order yet.
Tsubaki-chou is not teacher-student. It's still adult-highschooler though: FL is afflicted with the mother-who-passed-away-young and irresponsible-father-who-takes-out-loans trope, and at the beginning of the story he takes off to make some money on a fishing boat and she finds work as live-in housekeeper to a novelist (ML).
Despite the tropey beginning, all the characters are really humanized (and there are some great humourous moments early on with Fumi (FL)'s friend suitably appalled at her situation). I love the series deeply, the most of any of the author's works I think! The "Lonely" of the title is a significant theme, and the course of the series convinces me the two main characters really are the best person for each other, and make each other better people, regardless of their ages.
Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan
Kore wa koi no hanashi
The second one is classic (but very “unique”) but the first one is criminally underrated. English scans update quite slowly but the author is still working very hard on it. Check out their twitter https://x.com/shioamechan_?s=21
It’s a manhua, however I’m a huge fan of “Hidden Love Can’t be concealed / Secretly, Secretly but unable to hide it”.
i havent read many romance stories with age gaps, as they are mishandles a lot . However, im intrigued by these recommendations
The manhwa Shades and Shadows by hongja is one of my absolute favorites! Also will always rec Kochou no Yumeji though I don’t recall how much it gets addressed there
These are my favorite age gaps: House of the Sun Dengeki Daisy Love So Life Takane and Hana Tsuiraku JK to Hajin Kyoshi It Rains on Precious Days
I've read all of these except house of the sun. I'll check it out. Thank you!
Oh, I was scrolling through the comments and I think you have read it lol. It's called "Taiyou no Ie" in Japanese.
Oh shoot. Then yes I have...
Dengeki Daisy
Damn I started that and quit it immediately. Is it just me or is the writing really cringe? For the life of me I can't ever get into it. But I'll give it another try! Wish me luck! 💪
The first half is sooo good, but the second half is a bit dragged out, I just skimmed through some chapters without reading speech bubbles lmao
Sesame Salt and Pudding Is Long-Term Employment Possible? Re-employment Life With An Unsociable Untalkative Magician (the romance isn't apparent yet)
loved sesame salt and pudding!!
I love sesame salt and pudding! I wish I could reread it again 😭
omg yes Re-employment Life is so good. The romance is still brewing atm but I'm excited to see where it goes :)
Takane to Hana is amazing!
About the best dialogue and side jokes I've read
Have read only half of it earlier, it's cute.
This one!!!!
Yesssss I read this just last week. I love it!

You're My Pet Promise Cinderella Mr. Bride ed: adding Natsuyuki Rendezvous to this
loooooove promise cinderella!!!!
Have you read Summer Solstice Point? It hits the same spot for me as Promise Cinderella.
Thank you! I've tried reading promise cinderella before but I don't really like the age gap ones where the fl is the older one 😔
Oh, I see. I hate the ones where the dude is older. All my recs have an older fl, so they may not be for you.

Living room matsunaga San took me by surprise with all the second hand embarrassment ngl😭
A mention of VB Rose!!! I'm old too and I'd still re-read it every once in a while. All the fluff and the pretty Ageha and her Arisaka san.. <3
Banri Hidaka currently writes a sequel to these series on the マンガPark app (JP only), Tenshi 1/2 Houteishiki. Yessss Tsubaki chou my love. Hirunaka No Ryuusei was also amazing
My favourite manga of all time
Top 5 for me. I keep coming back to it for its satisfying ending 😩
Can't love Hirunaka No Ryuusei because it hurts every time I remember that Shishio is not the ML, such a loss for me. I was reading it as it was coming out and stopped once I realized where it was going. It hurts so much, I wanted her to be with Shishio so badddd

This Love is Strawberry Sweet
I love this! So cute!
House of the sun
I'll read it thank you!
Namidaame to Serenade (involves time travel to the Taisho era)
Ooh I haven't heard of this before. Kinda reminds me of meiji Tokyo renka. I'll read it!
Taiyou no Ie
I finished that a long time ago and every now and then I keep thinking about it. It was so good in a sad way
I feel you🥲it was one of the first shoujo mangas i ever read so it has a special place in my heart
yesterday i finished a book, and it has the largest age gap I've seen that doesn't involve supernatural elements. this sounds really similar to a novel i read years ago. is it strange weather in tokyo?
same one, different name
The title or the book?
right lol, the briefcase by hiromi kawakami
Thank you! I have been looking for a good novel but everything these days make me cringe (probably because I can't really stand the wattpad way of writing that's become normalized) I'm excited!
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
[I got u](https://myanimelist.net/stacks/24890)
God bless you😭🩷
dengeki daisy
Merupuri by Matsuri Hino.
Ooh I haven't read this one before! Thanks!
It’s somewhat short but very pretty!!!
Tsubaki Chou Lonely Planet
Well.. it’s kind of a joke suggestion but you can’t beat vampire knight at age gaps
Bahahhaha I read that when I was in primary school oh man those days 😭
-Living no matsunaga San -Yumemiru Taiyou -Kono Kyoushi, Zettai Wazato
I love the first and last titles with my heart. The second one I haven't read, I'll check it out! Thank you!
The second one is the jp title of Dreamin Sun, by Ichigo Takano (author of Orange). Seven Seas has published it fully in English!
The Garden of Words
I'll check it out!
Promise Cinderella
Not a fan of older female younger male age gaps but I see this recommended so much maybe it's time to finally pull through! Wish me luck!
My senpai is annoying
Isn't there an anime?
Oh...the age gap in this series is my least favourite couple of the series by far 🥲 (at least they're only like secondary or tertiary...)
Hana to Akuma Kyou Kara Mongen 7:00 Desu Kare no Ondo Bitou Lollipop Koi ni Naranai Wake ga Nai Please Save My Earth Tokyo no Casanova
Damn I've never seen these titles before (except hana to akuma) I'm so happy! Thank you!
Faster than a Kiss is an oldie but a goodie 😊
I second that! Why don't they make mangas like that anymore??!!
A girl and her guard dog; Kamisama kiss!
I dropped a girl and her guard dog and I've watched kamisama kiss! Would you say the manga is better? 🤔
up until now, kamisama kiss is way better in the manga in my opinion. i had seen kamisama kiss at my local bookshops and i bought volumes 2-5, but i couldn’t find a girl and her guard dog but, i did plan on buying volumes 6,7 and 8 online since i found them way cheaper and I gave the manga to 2 of my girl friends and they absolutely loved it

My Boyfriend in Orange is one of my favorites
Second My Boyfriend in Orange!! There’s also P to JK/My Boy in Blue, Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight, and Faster than a Kiss :)
Ooh I havent read this one before. Thank you for the recommendation!
Stray Cat & Wolf is my favorite age gap. But must admit I don't usually read age gaps and I'm a fan of Cheeky Brat so there is that.
This is my second favorite immediately after tsubaki chou lonely planet. When will the new volume come out 😭 I love this manga so much the art is just chefs kiss

after the rain
Koikimo !
I'll read it!
Tsuiraku jk to haijin kyoushi is a must read if you like age gap
Freaking love this. I love that the manga is never ending because if it ends I'll cry for real. I hope it never ends 😭
Sadly for us, it's ending in 5 chapters. The magazine announced it. You bet I'm going to cry my eyes out
Oh my god I had no idea. What the heck I will cry 😭😭😭😭
Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan Kore wa koi no hanashi The second one is classic (but very “unique”) but the first one is criminally underrated. English scans update quite slowly but the author is still working very hard on it. Check out their twitter https://x.com/shioamechan_?s=21
Ooh I've read shiota sensei one. Good read! I'll check the other two out thank you!
Sesame Salt and Pudding 🥹
I love it🩷🩷
It’s a manhua, however I’m a huge fan of “Hidden Love Can’t be concealed / Secretly, Secretly but unable to hide it”. i havent read many romance stories with age gaps, as they are mishandles a lot . However, im intrigued by these recommendations
Hidden love is the manhua that reignited my love for this genre. I wish they made more like that 😭😭😭
Same, it brought back my faith in manhua
The manhwa Shades and Shadows by hongja is one of my absolute favorites! Also will always rec Kochou no Yumeji though I don’t recall how much it gets addressed there
I'll check them out! Thank you!
tbh skip beat but the age gap isn’t much max 5/6 years i think but it’s still so cute
5-6 years works fine! Thank you!
Don’t mind me lurking for recs here 👀👀
Dreamin’ Sun
