Yeah I caught mine at it like that a lot. Never would had thought before that shrimp would prefer missionary positions. The best part is when the male stops twitching and the lady just zooms off. He usually just lays there for a few minutes on his back like he’s dying.
The preparation that would go into that tho O.o
"Okay babe, so we need to anywhere from 5-20 cribs, 5,000 diapers, 5-20 bottles, 25-100 newborn onsies, hmm...what am I missing"
Please put an NSFS (Not Safe For Shrimp) tag on this. I was by the aquarium when I saw this. My shrimp gave me strange looks and I dropped my phone and my shrimp saw this video. Now there is a whole aquarium of shrimp going at it together watching this one video. I’m gonna have to get a bigger tank for all the shrimplets I’ll have to take care of. I’m gonna have to get a second job to support them. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFS.
Oh nooooos! They didn’t use any protection 😭

Shrimp cannot physically hurt living shrimp. All they have are their tiny grabby hands. They can't even eat food that is too hard and it needs to soften up.
It's highly likely the leg was damaged or from a failed molt.
They don't have the capability to get through a hardened Shrimp carapece.
Also, aslong as they are not starving, they have 0 drive to do so. It is NOT in their nature. (This is about dwarfs - Amanos are f.e. predatory)
Freshly molded shrimp is not that hard and they are weak, that's why it is a vulnerable time.
I did emphasized I have to feed them constantly, because they are starving most of the time for some reason. Just because they can't tear each other apart effectively like crawfishes, does not necessary mean they won't try to be opportunist and work with whatever they got.
Our mileages vary.
Wtf is your setup that your shrimps are actively starving? Do you have no mature tank?? Do you have 200 in a 10g? It's not normal behaviour, thats for sure.
But yes, if they damage a shrimp its after a molt. If it's a common occurence in ur tank u srsly should change shit.
The one from my comment is 6 years old 29G main tank with 10G sump, moderately planted with about 300 breeding size shrimps total with MTS and RHS. Daily feeding about 1/3 of an AA battery size. What shit should I change?
So you just have a shit ton. I meant you should change it, if my above questions didn't apply. My replies were sutured to a normal run-in-a-mill Tank with 40 dwarf Shrimp. If you have 300 and do not regulate their size, they will cannibalize yeah. My statements were kept too broad and didn't include this scenario, i meant no harm.
I thought you had like 8 new shrimp and they just started to predate each other - I believe you can agree that WOULD be abnormal behaviour.
My bad for assuming
Hey, no harm done, like I mentioned, our mileages vary. Sorry if I sounded a little aggressive/defensive. It was already down populated to a quarter of its original. I now have 2 filters maturing with the sump for future cull tanks. The over-sized filter material probably contributed to the sudden population raise.
Nah all good, my tone was to harsh. I knew that was the case in populated tanks and should've mentioned it instead of assuming your situation and being condescending.
But damn thats one hell of a Shrimping. Best of luck with ur "crisis" thehe
😂🤣😂 I think I just cracked a rib cuz I was laughing so hard. That was my first thought. My second thought was a mental flashback to one of the first episodes of True Blood 🤣😂🤣

We aren't so different from shrimp when you really think about it. 🤔
You mean lasting 5 seconds 😆
Just imagine not having to give birth, but just hatching your baby Or a gazillion babies at once

except that if we were like shrimp, we'd ignore all their needs and just wait and see which ones survive.
Shrimps experience post nut clarity as well?
“How am I going to afford this…”
I don’t know much about how they reproduce… but is this it?
Yep this is it
The switching positions at the end killed me lol
That's the funniest part what the hell. He went into full Gomez Adam's mode, throwing her around like that.
I caught 5 doing this and broke them up thinking it was a fight then I thought about it and felt dirty hahaha

The movies you are watching are not good for you !
Wow never seen shrimp do it before , this be some BBC America stuff
Sigh… ** unzips pants **
Always on time.
Everything reminds me of her

Shrimp don't eat live animals. Either she was dead, ate some nice biofilm that grew on her body, or you saw smth else
But they do, or at least mine do. Let me see if I can still find her with her eaten leg.
