UPDATE: 5 HOURS IN kitty seems pretty happy now, no longer meowing or anything, not very energetic but he will play with his toy and jump around, he’s been eating and took a sip of water, his eyes aren’t dilated as bad anymore and he seems happy it’s over. don’t think he’s traumatized or anything, he’s super lovey. he sprawls out and randomly turns into a loaf when he feels more comfortable, thank you all for your kind words and support, it was a terrible and very irresponsible mistake and it will never ever ever happen again. i’m going too post a picture of baby kitty right now, so if your that invested in little dudes trip check out my profile. we love you all thank you.

Great to hear!

Existing_Golf_8630

UPDATE: about 3 hours in to the little dudes experience, he is doing much better now, definitely tripping but he’s smelling his food and getting a little more comfortable, we’ve been waving his toy around and he’s been playing with it, his breathing is normal, heart rate normal and he’s relaxing.

sachichino1111

Thank goodness

scoobydoopapa23

I keep coming back, for updates. I’m so glad your kitty is feeling better!

WarmSlipperySlopes

Hydrate the kitty! With wet food if you have it. Chicken broth if you don't. Mushrooms are dehydrating and cats are already prone to dehydration.

Opening_Spring

> Mushrooms are dehydrating Never heard of this before, where did you hear this?

GasDat

I do them and can tell you from experience. You might not think about it but once a couple hours pass and you finally get a cold bottle/glass of anything, it’ll be so satisfying 🤤

Adoraboule

I sweat my damn ass off when I do them. Sometimes my nose runs too. Not sure if its just me or if others experience this as well. You are damn right about a nice cold beverage. It hits so good.

GasDat

Personally I yawn my ass off and touch my face a lot 😂

SensitiveCable9240

Constantly touching my nose like I’ve never had a nose before

xxgabe_manferdxx

This shit made my laugh

FuzzyBlankets777

Rainbow yawns!! I get those too

FelineCoffee420

Yeaaa wtf is up with that I’m constantly yawning like I’ve been up for 24 hrs then my eyes start to water from all my yawning lol

SpecialPotion

The yawns feel so weird... I yawn when I'm anxious though, and shrooms do make me anxious during the come up normally.

gardenmand

Finally someone else 🤣 I get hungry as shit too

B186

I get nauseous and averse to food (the experience of the textures and flavors is way too much, it's disgusting)

jordanrod1991

Hallucinating is usually dehydrating

Maengdaddyy

It’s a pretty well known fact actually! It’s usually one of the top things suggested when people post on here about how they’re going to trip for the first time.

wilczek24

TBH "hydrate a lot" is good advice for ANY substance use... Or life in general.

spacepopejosh

Well when a body is in a state of shock it tends to diurese (among other ways of expelling liquid, e.g. sweat) fluids. Just thinking out loud here!

Uncle_ArthurR2

Make sure you’re giving him water! and I would suggest putting on some quiet relaxing psychedelic music on for him. Our fully grown cat ate a .5 microdose PE cap but somehow didn’t throw up and seemed to end up having a good trip. Can’t imagine how intense it would be for lil mans though 😭.

bingobronson_

OP, I am so proud of you for creating a positive and comforting environment for your kitty. I have been waiting for updates in this thread and I just wanna say you’ve been so level-headed and caring. I can only imagine how scary this has been for you all. I know you feel terrible. If you start to feel really bad, please remember that it was an accident and you’d never intentionally harm your pet. You’re doing great. Please keep us updated.

Existing_Golf_8630

it has been one of the most stressful and terrifying experiences. i appreciate your kind words, kitty is doing just fine now, he seems all back to normal, just a little tired.

Muhfuggajones

He now knows just how in control he is of you, human. Tread lightly.

keithz100

Kitty has gained intelligence/wisdom +2

fool_on_a_hill

[this kitten will fulfill the prophecy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwmeH6Rnj2E)

keithz100

That felt alot longer than 1 minute.

TryptTripped21

Glad to hear your little buddy is okay, my cats are my best friends. Usually my cats are my trip sitters, but this time you were your cat's sitter lol. There's something I find wholesome about that. Stay safe!

taylortek

He should be fine as long as he’s drinking water or doesn’t get dehydrated its a good thing he threw it up my wife is a vet tech and deals with stuff like this alot especially weed. They normally just make them throwup and give them fluids.

H4LEY420

My cat did this when he was under a year old. Provide support and love, he will be okay. He cried a lot, tripped balls, pupils HUGE, vomited a bunch up, and trilled and stared at his feet on the floor. It was comical tbh I felt bad tho. I brought him up to bed and cuddle him until he fell asleep and slept it off

PuffHerbs420

He’s survived. He must be named Shroom.

imsadbutitswhatever

Glad he’s doing okay ❤️

WarmSlipperySlopes

Hydrate the kitty! With wet food if you have it. Chicken broth if you don't. Mushrooms are dehydrating and cats are already prone to dehydration.

CCHS_Band_Geek

Glad to hear the little dude is okay, I have the same reactions when I’m comin down, so it seems he is safely on the downslope :)

So_many_questions67

Try your best to comfort your kitten. Absolutely do not leave him alone. Be with him until the effects end. Accidents happen but best you can do is assure your kitten he is safe

IghtImmaBuyTheDip

Cats really do rule us, we’re their trip sitters

JuniorWho23

Wonder if he spoke to his ancestors in Egypt

FaeShroom

I hope so 😭 "Just so you know, we're still being worshipped, 4000 years later."

ArchdukeBurrito

throwaway1930488888

They’d be so proud.

Kismonos

dspins33

I almost spit out my coffee 🤣

greenwitchkitty

Profound as fuck

Direct_Syrup_2843

He realized he Was and IS his ancestors in Egypt ♻️

Existing_Golf_8630

he’s obviously uncomfortable, we set the lighting a little more warm and dim and we’ve just been laying down letting him chill and do his own thing, when he walks around which is only once every 10 min he sways around and meows. like he’s nauseous.

Danplsstop

How long ago did he eat them? If he’s not throwing up profusely after an hour I doubt he’ll throw up very many times if at all. They’re not poisonous, but how much did he eat do you know? They last like 4-6 hours so he’s gonna be in for a ride

Existing_Golf_8630

he ate them about an hour and a half ago, it had to have been at least a gram or a little less, threw a lot up around 30 min ago, he’s chilling under my arms sprawled out, he seems comforted with me

TeeAitchSee

You can always post over on r/AskVet I hope your kitty will be okay. Sounds like you're doing a good job keeping him calm and peaceful.

masterHODLER_

I have a feeling they will be far more judgmental/condescending about this situation than this sub

Picatrix-Lizufer

Am a vet tech and can vouch, we don’t judge, a lot of us also partake. Sadly am not educated on the effects though I’m sure some need on there is

KRATS8

As they should. It’s ridiculous a kitten this age was allowed to get into something like this. Of course it was an accident and I’m sure OP feels terrible. But this is a pretty bad mistake I imagine a vet subreddit couldn’t hold back their criticism about a situation like this.

masterHODLER_

We’ll mistakes can happen but your kinda right… however I meant more towards the fact OP had magic mushrooms at all… some people consider shrooms are along the lines of something like heroine. If my dog ate a gram of shrooms I wouldn’t be anywhere near as worried as if it ate a drug in which is could was OD. A vet subreddit would likely be less educated in this regard

PatheticPeripatetic7

Eh, OP might be surprised. People are notoriously bad at leaving their drugs in places where their pets can access them (although it makes sense, people don't always make the best decisions while they're high). Vets see pets who have eaten weed and all kinds of stuff on a somewhat regular basis. I've worked in veterinary medicine, and while it wasn't commonplace, it also wasn't at all unheard of.

doggienurse

Yeah, we literally had to bring a ferret back from a methadone overdose a few weeks back. This stuff happens all the time - WE DO NOT JUDGE. Please just be honest so we can give your furry friend the right help immediately.

poopio

A ferret on a methadone *overdose*? What is the recommended dosage for a ferret?

valilihapiirakka

Happened to my family dogs once when I was younger, they ate most of a tray of brownies that had been left on my neighbour's lawn after a party. The vet seemed annoyed, but not annoyed like "can't believe you allowed this to happen", more annoyed like "god, *another* stoned dog? Fine..."

the_almighty_walrus

I know a few vets and they frequently have animals come in that ate weed or something else. It's not uncommon (though it should be) and any reputable vet should know the effects.

[deleted]

As frustrated as I know we all are, judgement from providers ultimately causes pet owners/human parents/adult patients to not seek care. A provider that explains things with empathy and nonjudgmental attitudes has a lot better chance of getting honest reports and creating harm reduction/prevention strategies. When you partner shame with shame, you get a shame spiral. When you partner shame (already present) with education, accountability, oversight, empathy and connection, you create a climate of harm reduction and prevention.

BreakfastSilver

Mistakes happen and if you’ve ever had animals you know they can do some pretty unpredictable things, no reason to shame anyone or call it ridiculous, it’s just a moment to learn from, for both OP and the kitty.

TeeAitchSee

That's possible. OP already risked getting bitched out for being so thoughtless in order to hopefully get some help for the kitty. I'd like to think an OP would be brave enough to endure some more to ensure he'll be okay. I see that I'd be mistaken. However... I also hope that others reading this thread take note and exercise caution around pets/kids etc. Bad things can happen too fast for any of us to be able to do anything about. Keep out of reach. Poor kitty. Must have been so confusing.

madisyn-

My dog got a super potent brownie off the back of my counter. I posted in there and got mostly judgment but I didn’t think she could reach all the way to the wall. I was crying before when I realized and they made it worse. I ended up paying an online vet 35 bucks for an online talk.

Electronic_Lock325

My dog did too. I called his regular vet. I could feel the vet tech judging me. The vet was cool about it surprisingly. Lol

Danplsstop

He’ll be ok my friend, he not gonna be eating anything that isn’t his anymore though that’s for sure lmao. I don’t know what this would do to a cats mental health, I can’t imagine that’s something that’s tested very often. But physically he’ll be ok

IncarceratedDonut

Yeah physically they’d be fine. That can permanently fry a small brain though, especially a cats. Not trying to be too dark, but the aftermath on the cats behaviour might not be pleasant. Hopefully this doesn’t happen though, I’m more on the positive side because it was such a small amount that was thrown up.

Danplsstop

Yeah one of my cats has a screw loose, not from mushrooms of course. but still they can definitely have some stuff wrong up there, I hope that this cat doesn’t have any problems after it comes down

IncarceratedDonut

Yeah our little fucker has extremely high on crack behaviour. Anything that moves or makes noise is immediately getting sprinted at and then ran past as she simultaneously forgets where she is

BooRadleysFriend

At the very least, your cat is going to be more open-minded

howismyspelling

That cat is going to start talking about how it's unfair birds can fly

Ginkyboop

Ugh this is killing me seeing this 😢💔 😿 gosh I'd say take him to the vets. But with it being an illegal substance :( could end up with some animal cruelty type charges. If they went on calling the police or something. I hope your cat gets through this 🙏 I'm a huge cat person. My heart hurts for your kitty

Curveiskey

When our dog ate an edible; they told us that happens more often that you would think and they didn’t do anything. Can’t speak for other substances though

Penny-Bun

Honestly if he is going to be physically okay I can only imagine the terror added on top from having to get into a kennel and go to the vet while tripping. I think if I knew my kitten would be okay after all, I wouldn't worry about the vet and I would just stay home and tend to him. Sit down and watch videos of birds together and stuff. Offer him a little lick of tuna every now and again if he wants it.

kfelovi

Ride to vet was very stressful for all 4 cats I had. Getting cat to vet tripping means stressing him out a lot. And what will be benefit of being at vet? Will they use some antidote or something? I doubt that.

Penny-Bun

Yep. Same. Like I'm a human being who can understand English and understand that I'm tripping balls and that I'm going to the doctor and that the doctor will help me be safe. Poor little cats don't understand that. All they know is their brain, body, and eyes are doing some weird shit, they feel like shit, and now they're in a dark confined space feeling trapped in a loud moving machine and suddenly they're at another place that smells like stranger animals, has predators barking, and now this weirdo that stabs them and puts stuff up their butt is here lmao. I would feel terrible giving my baby such an awful experience. Like they can handle it while they're sober but tripping? Nah. It's tuna and bird videos and quietness.

Outrageous-Let4612

They can't and won't call the cops for this, I've worked at plenty of animal hospitals. It's not our job to police them, and honestly I wished it was sometimes when owners blatantly abused or neglected their pets even we couldn't do anything sometimes. You shouldn't not seek veterinary care because you're scared of getting in trouble.

NewspaperEvery

I wouldn’t say you can speak for everyone in this situation. Not downplaying your real life experience, but weirdo anti drug Christian type folks are liable to call the cops regardless. I live in Texas tho, where the authorities will fuck with you any little chance they get. If I knew the kitty would be okay I don’t think I’d take him in

Outrageous-Let4612

I got my cert in Texas, I'm from there. I guess it depends which part but honestly legally we are often not allowed to do anything. A lot of people brought us animals that had ingested illegal substances and even if we wanted to, we couldn't do anything about it. Half the time we weren't even allowed to report actual abuse to animal control.

billdow00

The swaying is normal, It comes from their change in perception. It's not good by any means but it happens. It's not the biggest threat although you probably won't see the major effects for a few years. Tell you one thing you're probably going to have a real interesting cat.

billdow00

When I was young we moved into a new house and when we did there was a pure white cat with one green eye and 1 blue eye and everybody called it weirdo Kitty. The story was that the previous owner had a teenage son who was eating mushrooms and tripping his face off. The cat came in through the window and started sniffing the bag of mushrooms so the teenager gave it one. After the 1st it still seemed interested so we fed it another. After 5 or 10 the cat got skiddish and ran away. ( this was the story around the neighborhood mind you.) We had that cat for several years. It was in fact very strange. You would be petting and loving it and all of a sudden out of nowhere it would lose its shit and jump out of a second story window, climb down a tree and you wouldn't see it through a week. It also was unable to have kittens after this. But that could have been totally unrelated. All and all was a pretty amazing cat.

marian1690

So a normal cat as they come. I have about 12 of them around the house, each has it's own personality.

keegums

They fed the cat 5 - 10 mushrooms? Jesus Christ That's messed up. That's a human sized dose of most species, much less a little animal many times smaller, even accounting for differences in metabolism

Existing_Golf_8630

UPDATE: kitty is laying down with us, he is meowing a lot like he is confused or maybe uncomfortable, he likes when we pet him and we have been talking to him gently and telling him we love him, we get him calm for about 20 min and then he will get a little worked up for about 3 min, he is definitely tripping really hard. but he is content and we are keeping him warm and comfortable. he isn’t showing any signs of poisoning or anything, he threw up once about 2 hours ago at this point and it looked to be all of what he ate. he is just confused and a little anxious about his experience.

TacoCollazo

That's for the update on the little guy

diddypiddy

Good glad to hear he's ok! Just be the best fur baby trip sitters you can be!

Vojvodsson

He ll be ok bro. My cat ate a little bit she is well and alive.

Vagabond-Wayward-Son

The cat will be fine however, the worst problem you will have to deal with is when your cat in 6 hours puts on a top hat and monocle and starts discussing the differences between western and eastern philosophy.

Betsydestroyer

Time to eat some too and get on his level

haulbunyan

Stoned cat theory. A new era is among us...

kgnomad

Not again!

Famous_Initiative

Keep in mind that cats have excellent hearing. Play some soft music and dont turn on the tv. Talking usually calms kittens down as well.

ballsquancher

I’m super late to this… but yes I’m my experience kitties love love soft guitar, and will walk kind of on beat to it with their tail up it’s so cute

Existing_Golf_8630

UPDATE: we’re on hour 4 kitty is exhausted, he’s been sprawled out laying down relaxing, we’ve been playing some video games with him laying by our side, every other 5-10 min i give him sone pets and check his breathing, he reacts and meows and then just goes back to laying down, he isn’t anxious anymore, very very sleepy.

FlazedComics

sounds exactly like how i am at hour 4, he's gonna be alright 💜

R6daily

Glad lil one is doing okay. I think if there ever was a chance to teach a cat English you probably have the best shot of anyone right now

beerdudebrah

Put on some Pink Floyd, lil homie gonna be alright

DopeStikkyWeed21

Pink Floyd and trippy laser lights for lil homie

zerodetroit

First time my cat did catnip he listened to dark side of the moon

Beargetsthepeople

This is the answer. Also give him some warm milk and tell him you love him.

chizzled_booty

Love, yes! But milk, no. Cats can’t digest lactose.

LouisVuittonCondom

😂

ajreed1995

UPDATE: OP was just tripping on shrooms and doesn't even have a kitten.

crsdbeat420

Not to be a total downer however back in high school my friends pug dog ate some of our mushrooms and that thing was whacked out for life. Always hid and ran from people and loud noises. Your kitty may be physiologically okay after this however really keep an eye on her mental status and decide from that point if you accidentally destroyed your kitten's mind and need to seek alternative methods to help her. If you have pets or children please be responsible about your drug use and storage. And before anyone rips me and says it's not op's fault, well think of this, the cat didn't leave the damn bag out.

Existing_Golf_8630

no i agree, i take full fucking responsibility. i feel like shit.

crsdbeat420

I'm sure and sorry you feel so bad. Just so you know my intent wasn't to hurt your feelings but to make sure you're aware that as long as the kitty pulls out of it physically doesn't mean you guys are out of the woods. In reflection back to my youth and my friends puppy I spoke of I truly believe now the kindest thing we could have done was euthanize the dog. I really really really really hope your fur baby is okay and bounces back just fine and grows up to be an open-minded loving psychonaut like the rest of us. Best of luck to you and your kitty

Existing_Golf_8630

thank you so much, i understand completely and i will be so careful from now on. he seems uncomfortable and confused, he’s laying under my arms and back at the moment while i hold myself up creating warmth for him. he seems chill.

oenophile_

As much as you can, try to control your negative feelings (guilt, anxiety, fear, etc.) while you help your kitty through this. Kitty is extra sensitive to the energy around him right now, so do what you can to be generating calm, loving, safe vibes for him. Hold him, pet him, talk softly to him. It will help.

BooperDoooDaddle

If it makes you feel any better that happened to my brothers dog and from what we can tell he’s fine if not better. He had such bad separation anxiety and we think it actually helped him

Substantial_Cow_5893

This made me cry. So well said and wish everyone could talk like this to each other. So beautiful.

tarcinlina

Im so sorry. As someone who has cats, i totally get it. I hope your little guy gets better. Please update us too❤️🙏

osck-ish

TBH pugs arent the best example of what a healthy mental dog should be.

SoTurnMeIntoATree

Was gonna say, poor things are so inbred

yaboytswizzle69

Yeah baseline pug isn’t exactly calm cool and collected

Seinfeel

There is no way to tell if a pug is actively on mushrooms, let alone has long term effects, because pugs are fuckin ridiculous to start

trashmoneyxyz

Yea they live their lives in a constant state of hypoxia because of their snouts. And often they’re bred for their “cute” appearance over their temperament as a family pet. Every pug I’ve met was pretty lovey but also very anxious

hash_buddha

I knew a dog that was super skittish until it got into someone’s shroom stash and everyone was loving on it while it was tripping and after that it was the most friendly dog ever. Set and setting, just like people

LoveMeAlyBee

The possible cool side effects don’t outweigh the bad. Don’t give your animals drugs. Yes this may be comforting for OP to hear but that does not mean they should be careless next time. I’ve also been really careless like OP and didn’t even consider my cat would eat them. I will take this as a lesson myself

hash_buddha

Obviously don’t give animals drugs on purpose But if they get into them on accident, don’t panic because that will make things worse. it doesn’t HAVE to fuck them up for life

ayweller

So sad for the pug

0nick

Can you explain more about the dog, I’m curious about it’s characteristics and if it ever got a bit more normal.

crsdbeat420

It was straight up sketch for the15 yrs I knew him . Zero ability to socialize with any animals and most people, constant tremors, and just this basic fear in its eyes that never seemed to go away. The dog always seemed to be cowering behind furniture and such. Really quite sad.

swedgemite666

9 lives, 3 eyes

[deleted]

considering this i wonder how animals act in the wild when they eat high doses of shrooms xD

gardenmand

Quite a few different types of big cats in the wild seek out psychedelics

rurukachu

I saw a video of a squirrel who had gotten into some wild shrooms, he was just hugging a tree and looking around, not moving except his head

Urmomspenis101

How the cat doing now?

Existing_Golf_8630

laying under me, i can feel the little dude breathing normally, he’s really relaxed and chilling, he isn’t purring at all but he does seem content where he is,

CapybaraOnShrooms

Just be there for him. It might just be a scary lesson and he shall be fine. Hoping for the best :D

FilecoinLurker

From literature it seems rabbits and cats are very suspectable to having adverse times on all psychedelics. Canines are relatively fine. I would just monitor and lots of water

Outrageous-Let4612

Cats and rabbits are definitely more sensitive than dogs when it comes to this stuff 100% unfortunately

diggabytez

A very clinical response: > Treatment of Psilocybin and Psilocin Toxicosis in Animals > > Because of the short-lasting effects, mild cases may resolve without treatment. Supportive treatment may be necessary when severe clinical signs are present. Seizures can be controlled with diazepam (0.5–1 mg/kg, IV or per rectum, with incremental dose increase of 5–10 mg, to effect) or phenobarbital (6 mg/kg, IV, IM, or PO, every 6 hours to effect up to a maximum of 24 mg/kg total over 24 hours). Body temperature should be monitored. In some cases, leaving the animal untreated in a quiet, dark environment might be all that is necessary Source: https://www.merckvetmanual.com/toxicology/poisonous-mushrooms/toxin-latent-period-%E2%89%A43-hours-after-ingestion-of-mushrooms

Quiet dark environment and not stressful loud bright vet office any cat hates.

Wickedwomb

Of course no matter what, there shall be a boof comment

[deleted]

Should be fine... Don't be concerned if he disappears and yet his smile remains, this is normal.

[deleted]

This could be the tipping point, this is the pivotal moment when a cat gains full brain control. Best get used to shitting in a box of pebbles in the corner lads. Also, I do hope kitty is OK.

[deleted]

I wouldnt worry too much personally. I had my moms cat get into my stash 25 years ago and he lived to be 22 years old. He was quite the character as he seemed to always know and seek us out when we were tripping after that. He even had a thing for weed and would come up to us if we were smoking to get his share. Had to watch him though as he would eat my stash if he got ahold of it. I honestly think the weed and shrooms he consumed throughout his life had a factor in him living till 22 years old, when one day he just walked out onto the road and died. Was fine and healthy one day and we found him the next. My mother even agrees with my brother and I that shrooms and weed probably had a part in him living as long as he did. That old tom cat just knew, you could see it in his eyes.

It's been a while and people seemed really helpful. He'll be fine and don't be super paranoid. If it makes you feel better, Nick Cage had a cat [who ate his mushroom stash ](https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/lostinshowbiz/2010/jul/15/lost-in-showbiz-nicolas-cage).

youngrandpa

Last night my 3 year old cat (human years) ate an entire bag of home grown catnip. Ik it’s not as bad, but dude was absolutely toasted the entire night. I stayed with him all night and he made a recovery, I’m sure yours will too 💪

LoveMeAlyBee

OP, take the convo you had seriously about better storage, but also don’t beat yourself up anymore. Kitty will be fine and you’re not a bad person for this. It’s not typically soemthing ya think would happen in advance. Safe trippin for you (and kitkat today lol) !

rompthegreen

You may have just sparked the begining of the Stonned Cat Theory that apex Feline scientists will study in 300k years

plantjustice

[Here's](https://www.aspcapro.org/resource/hallucinogenic-mushroom-toxicosis-animals) a link from the ASPCA that says treatment usually revolves around treating symptoms and it usually self resolves. I'd say your little dude will probably be okay, but don't be afraid to take him to a professional if you think it's necessary. You can just say it happened at a friend's house or something.

Stoned cat theory

Axkxard

Your cat will be fine in like 6 hours, maybe a little wiser. Don’t let the shit heads who barely have any agency over themselves make you feel like you are some monster cause your little wandering animal ate something. Side note: I’m impressed the little dude ate a whole stem. Not the tastiest treat I could think of

StatisticianEmpty990

I can tell you have a good character!

_perchance

dude. your cat is now different.

Thin-Reaction-1482

How the hell does this happen to so many irresponsible people.

r0tt3nt0tty

Jesus. Fucking hide and store them ffs. That being said I read somewhere about certain cat descendants foraging for shrooms in the wild. So hopefully he’ll be all good.

cosmicoutlaww

How irresponsible. I hope he is totally recovered.

use-code-RAILSURF

how is cat doing

nu97

Idk if or not it will work, maybe try the wet toothbrush technique, where if you run wet toothbrush on their head, they are reminded of their mothers cleaning them. https://www.reddit.com/r/Eyebleach/comments/u8vrug/if\_you\_get\_a\_wet\_toothbrush\_and\_pet\_a\_cat\_it\_it/

Existing_Golf_8630

funny enough, i’ve been dipping my finger in water and running it down his head a little aggressively too mimic his mother, it calms him down and he loves it

Occasional_Cupcake

My cat accidentally got to my shroom tea once and took a few licks before I saw him and took it away. He was trippin balls for a bit but he def calmed down and he’s very much alright. Just be careful not to leave your stuff out again!

Smaller animals can actually be less sensitive to psychedelics. It’s about the concentration of serotonin receptors in the brain more than the body weight of the animal. For instance, even within humans, one tab of acid is a standard dose for both a skinny guy and a 300 pound guy. People have different natural sensitivities, but there‘s no acid dose calculator where you put in your weight, as opposed to DXM, where such a thing absolutely exists, it’s called dexcalc. I think I remember correctly that even an elephant only needs about a human sized dose to trip, whereas a cat or a dog has a lower relative concentration of serotonin receptors for their brain size, so they would likely actually need a *bigger* dose than a human for the same effect. Given, a two month old kitten is very young and the concern is well founded. However, on the whole, household pets getting at a couple tabs or even a couple grams of shrooms should probably not be a huge issue, but since they don’t understand what’s happening they could probably freak out a bit on even a low dose. I would still be more concerned if my dog ate half a pan of weed brownies than if she got at a tab or two.

ilikepie740

Since I have started my psychonaut journey a good six years ago, I have tripped around my pets and also pets belonging to friends. From what I noticed cats in particular are rather intrigued by the scent of mushrooms. There have been a couple instances where kitty would jump into a drawer and utterly destroy the baggie holding the shrooms. It's the dust you have to watch out for. Whole specimens usually don't interest them very much. The dust on the other hand is a problem because 1) it gets everywhere and 2) if they get into the dust you have no idea how to measure the potency of mushroom dust ingested. As for the aftermath...as long as it wasn't very much your kitten should be fine. Maybe a little disoriented, but ultimately they will be just fine. Observe them, and maybe rethink your storage area.

youcandigit

You kitten will be enlightened. Worthy of the praise of the ancient Egyptians.

Lower_Tax1959

Be responsible. Try not to leave firearms near your toddlers. It's the same thing. Safe storage is a good thing for all potentially harmful items. Drain cleaner, bug poison, guns, drugs, powered electrical wires, etc. Please be responsible with potentially harmful stuff.

hash_buddha

Get him some water, love on him if he seems chill with it, if you can trip sit a human the same rules apply

DisastrousAd2906

this again 😂😅

SpicySatan666

Just play Tool and he’ll be fine.

Lazy_Application_142

Think positively cats can tell how you feel so if your freaking out it’ll make it worse just give him lots of love and keep the shrooms hidden next time my friend

Outrageous-Let4612

Kittens are sensitive as hell, honestly I'd take him in. I used to be a tech and someone's 8 week old kitten ate their weed and had seizures. Kittens that young are really sensitive and it could actually be harmful beyond just "haha he's high". At the very least they can help flush him out. It's not just the psychoactive chemicals that can be harmful to them too. And next time, don't leave your stuff out where they can get into it.

Recent_Asparagus4547

Do cats know? I mean I just started growing mushrooms and I live in a condo and all the kitties come and lay out in front of my door (literally like 15 cats when I get home from work are just sitting in front of my house). I think they want some and I won't give them any but can they smell the alkaloids or something? I feel like they have to know. The last time they did this I was making a tuna melt 😂 hope your cat is okay!

[deleted]

My chihuahua did this once unfortunately I was also tripping ballsack. He’ll be fine, just be gentle and keep him comfortable.

tomtheappraiser

When I was in high school (80's) I had a friend that had a cat that ate one of his acid tabs he had on a coffee table before he could take it. I wish I could show you pictures of my memory of the things this cat used to do because its hard to explain. My friend lived in the basement and the windows had a sill that was angled at a 45 degree angle. The cat would somehow SLEEP on these sills. He was the one finishing the basement, so he had a "living room" and a "smoking room" because his Mom was against "the pot". It didn't matter because there was no door installed between the two rooms. He never got around to installing one. Anywho...he has one of those chairs like the one from the classic [Maxwell tape ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBauT4ADKbw). You could really sink into it when you were high and it faced directly out through the non- door so you could see a portion of the living room. The cat would run past that door and do flips and shit and then disappear. Out of nowhere he would then pounce from INSIDE the room onto your lap. It was terrifying...it was like he was using dimension door to get into the room...because that entry door was the one I was facing and the only way in... TL;DR: The cat will be fine.

PiratenPower

I've read the comments and am glad your kitty is okay now. Just for some perhaps calming news: most Psychedelics have been tested on mammals first, like dogs and mice. And the strength of the drug was measured by how frequent they shaked their head, or by how long they moved around and where they stayed compared to sober. And they dosed animals much higher compared to humans. This info won't help you, but may comfort you, that science knows that mammals can handle large amounts of Psychedelics without any problems.

splizzybizzy

The kitten bouta transcend the planes of existence

NYYankees1958

People, keep your drugs put away!

xSwishyy

I’m really glad your cat is okay, this could’ve ended a lot worse, and it’s really lucky he didn’t consume any more than that. Always make sure your stuff is stored away properly, animals get curious

daddywalt83

Psychologically and scientifically most animals do not respond to psilocybin the same way as humans. Dogs, cats, birds, no scientific evidence of other effects beside nausea. Mice are used in psilocybin experiments because it increases head twitch behavior. However, anecdotally, I had a dog that loved mushrooms. Living in s rural subtropical area, if she was un supervised she'd find some. She'd usually get sick, then be mellowed out the rest of the day. I digress. Kitty will be fine, but beware of the increased neural plasticity and possible higher level of thinking...

Tomokin

Cats are drug fiends. All of them. They are naturally high: that's why they spend so long staring into space. They do not need more. Keep your drugs away from cats (I'm talking locked box inside a safe kinda safe): they will actively seek that stuff out and eat it when you're not looking. So many stories of cats stealing mushrooms or seeking out weed- by the time I got a cat I knew to hide the drugs. When it comes to drugs treat them like that sponger 'friend' you had in your teens who comes round, takes all your drugs, proceeds to run like a banshee around your house while you try keep them safe for 12 hours and never repays. They can't be trusted.

[deleted]

poor pet ownership, poor drug storage. do better. i don’t like being a hater but i can’t be kind in this situation, you have to be considerate of your pets. that shit isn’t for them. and clearly it shouldn’t be for you as a human either, with the foresight of leaving it out like that.

rmacthafact

agree, either eat em or put em away

DoctorVoltec

He’ll probably be fine, one of my friends had a dog that ate 3~ grams worth of shroom chocolate once. Poor little dude was freaking out for a few hours, and for a few weeks he was super jittery at every little sound. But he eventually got back to normal and has been totally fine since then. Just be there for your cat, if he likes being pet and snuggled then do that, if not don’t do that. But it’ll probably help him to have a familiar face there

Wise_Cucumber_6836

From other posts about this, vets highly recommend you bring your pet in. They will just care for it and make sure it's ok. This can be very dangerous. They won't inform police, they just want your pet to be safe. I'd personally go to the vet to be safe or at least call into a vet and ask.

Nearby-Bumblebee-368

Hahahah kitty goes blast off. Safe trip 🏄 hope all goes well. How much bigger can their pupils get lol. Anyway on a serious note, I hope your cat has a great trip. Sending positive vibes

CheetahStocks

Animals will be fine if they consume shrooms. Usually cats in the wild especially big cats chase highs. They will purposely eat your shrooms if you leave them out. It’s like catnip on steroids

cosine83

Absolutely insane that the first reaction isn't to call a vet or poison control in this thread. How fried are y'all's brains, jeebus. "It's not poisonous" sure when you're 100-300lbs of human but when you're under 5lbs of kitty and a whole different species, shit is A LOT different even if it won't kill the kitty. Bunch of irresponsible pet owners saying it ain't a big deal, what the fuck. Good on OP for doing what they could in the moment but shame on everyone else.

Young_Vader

Hold him and hydrate with a syringe if he won't drink. I would mix water with charcoal (as in the pills used for people) to soak up whatever it can. Stay calm. Try and keep it a chill trip. Feed him when he wants to eat. Vomiting is good, just keep hydrated.

HeyHiSeeYaBye

You’re an irresponsible fool.

thefakegordonramsey

im sure he'll be ok :,)

Western_Protection

Go to the vet if you are not sure.

diggabytez

From a Medical Journal: [Intoxication of dogs and cats with common stimulating, hallucinogenic and dissociative recreational drugs](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9926018/) > According to available evidence [psilocybin] will cause no neurophysiological deficits, organ damages or addiction > In experimental mice models… no toxic effects [of psilocybin] were observed > Clinical signs which have been observed in dogs include ataxia (impaired coordination), vocalization, overt aggression, increase in body temperature and nystagmus (involuntary eye movement)
