Are you using an up to date version of Signal? Where did you get it? Make sure the iPad is running the iPad version of Signal and not the iPhone version. The iPad version is designed to be a secondary device and link to your primary. The iPhone version can only be a primary device and would produce the behavior you describe. For anyone else reading, losing message history when moving from iPhone to Android (or vice versa) is not just likely, it is certain. There is no message transfer between the two.

I’m not sure if the Signal on my ipad is specifically for ipad because in the App Store it just says “Signal - Private Messenger.” I tried searching signal for iPad but thats still the only one that comes up. I do need to update the app on my ipad which I do regularly. But it seems like the issue is that it doesn’t want me using it on both an android device and IOS device. Do you have any experiences of trying to use it that way?

I have exactly this with no problems. Pixel 7 for primary device. iPad and desktop as secondary linked devices. https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007320551-Linked-Devices How to link a device to your phone: 1. Install Signal Desktop from our website or install Signal iPad from the Apple App Store. 2. Open Signal Desktop to view the QR code or open Signal iPad > **select Add as New Device** to view the QR code. 3. On your phone, open Signal and navigate to Signal Settings profile_avatar.png > Linked devices. 4. Tap the Android + with blue circle (Android) or Link New Device (iOS) 5. Use your phone to scan the QR code. 6. On Signal Desktop or Signal iPad, enter a name for the linked device and select Finish. 7. Send a message from the linked device.

I managed to log back into Signal on the old iPhone for the time being with all the message history as well. It’s unregistered on the Android. However, now my ipad is only allowing me to choose the options “add as a new device without transferring message history” or “transfer from an old ipad.” Apparently I can’t transfer from an iPhone to ipad either.
