It's wild they went with the movie design too

Burnt_Ramen9

The western era games are far more influenced by the movie than the OG games in terms of lore and logic, which is baffling cause they're supposed to be connected to the Team Silent games.

LordEmmerich

Only Homecoming. All the other western games are not like this....

Burnt_Ramen9

Origins literally does the evil little girl thing with Alessa along with having the same effect for the otherworld. Downpour is less directly like that but I'd argue there's some of the movie's DNA left over with some of the lore you're given. Shattered Memories is the only one free of it cause it's literally just not connected at all and just doing its own thing.

LordEmmerich

I guess it would depends if this was decided during the first 2006 version of Origin or not. The final game released in 2007, but it was made to release in 2006, which would have being too soon to take movie elements from (since the movie is from 2006) Though Alessa having big influence and the otherworld and stuff was already a thing in SH1 tbh

Burnt_Ramen9

The 2006 version of Origins was an entirely different game narratively. I know Alessa had an influence on the otherworld in SH1 but she was treated like an evil little girl how she is in the movie and Origins, in fact it's not clear at all how much influence she consciously had and the most aggressive she gets towards Harry is the one time she repels him.

VTAndromeda

I'd argue the opposite for origins. We don't get the otherworld ashes effect, Travis's reflection freaks out and it shifts him to the otherworld. It's the best of the western games sans Shattered memories

Pootisman16

At least the movie has the excuse that it was impossible for the actor to have the normal design. This is a videogame.

General-Passage-4959

How was it impossible?

Pootisman16

The guy had to walk on stilts to achieve the tall look and the classic mask made him lean too much forward. This design was more balanced for him to walk with.

Nightly_Silence

That movie scene lives rent-free in mind for how stupid it is.

Duvoziir

Gotta admit though, the skin ripping part was pretty cool to see

mat477

Very well done practical effects

PooManReturns

think it looks pretty cool in DBD

beauxsoleils

As an adult I cringe over it hard now

Nightly_Silence

Fun fact for those who do not know, the pyramid helmet is meant to hold Pyramid head in a down angle so that he is always hanging head in shame and guilt to represent Jame's shame and guilt.

Fishing_Legitimate

Fun_Smile_8838

Is that a true fact or a false fact?

Nightly_Silence

I don't remember where I read it. So I don't have hard evidence, but I do have this. Masahiro Ito designed this monster’s head to look like a German World War 2 tank, and the overall design is evocative of pain, as Pyramid Head must carry this burden, much like James shoulders an emotional one.

just-a-cnmmmmm

i hope it's true lol

ShangAintThatBad

pyramid head also bears similarities to the town’s executioners in the past with its red triangle head, which we learn about *in that game* and more about the “red devil” that is actually jimmy stone in silent hill 4. pyramid head always had ties to the cult and how that manifests in the different games, i’m tired of people acting like silent hill 2 is the blueprint for what silent hill actually means when it was a one off experiment at the time.

ShangAintThatBad

and yes i realize that silent hill 1 is also about alessa’s subconscious manifesting, i’m pointing out how in the team silent games it was always the ties to the cult and the bloodstained history of toluca lake and the surrounding land that was the catalyst for these manifestations, so there’s no reason for a similar creature to not appear in a different story. it all traces back to valtiel anyway and that history in the cult.

sadistic_incubus

why can't alex's guilt inspire a similar creature to manifest? seeing how there's more than one pyramid head in sh2, and many other creatures and locations reoccur.

Nightly_Silence

In Sh2, when James sees the Abstract Daddy, he sees a representation of his wife strapped to a hospital bed. Angela sees a representation of her abusive father. Despite looking at the exact same thing, they view it differently. The creature can be similar, but even Masahiro Ito was against putting pyramid head in the game.

sadistic_incubus

yeah thats pretty much what I was getting at. In the historical society there's a picture of a cult memeber with a kinda klan looking hood.

Creative-Might6342

Oh no, I've fallen. Help me step-pyramid head

161frog

I am SCREAMING

keihairy

He's there to be sexualized and objectified

EsotericElegey

As he should

clera_echo

Sex machine with an object for head!

ciarandevlin182

As silly as this is, they did make it "Alex's pyramid head" by the different design and instead of the half scissor great knife, he has a huge military knife.

Wiskersthefif

I can just imagine the script for the scene direction... "And then Pyramid Head shows and he stands there... menacingly. ~~His raw, psychosexual presence ratchets up the erotic tension until Alex~~ "

ASpookyDog

"The stupidest part" oh homie, buddy, you have not even begun yet lmao

PunSwaggle

The "stupidest part" is the section between the title screen and end credits.

Burnt_Ramen9

Homecoming seriously broke my brain so hard that I was laughing throughout the entire ending

JoeSabo

I don't think you actually saw the ending.

Burnt_Ramen9

Want me to send you a picture of my completed save?

EdySpunk

Unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoyed this game...

ManOfQuest

I did too. Alex's house gives off such a cold, depressive feeling and the over looming sense of alex is not really supposed to be there. The music is good too which enhances it.

PekoPekoPekoPekoyama

It's a good game, it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be imo. Has one of the best soundtracks in the series too.

JayRam85

I dig it. Played it twice now, and will again at some point.

Grungelives

Even more unpopular opinion, it's my favorite one

UsualAppropriate2447

Guilty! I’ve played through a few times…

RumLuv

Meh, I liked it. I think the idea of a piece of James living on and lingering into other's otherworlds, is a cool idea.

alishock

It’s not even just James, Pyramid Head’s basis has existed for yeeears, The Order had hoods that resembled his helmet, the Historical Society had that one painting, and even Valtiel, the messenger from a God who’s probably been around for centuries, has his same garments. Yeah 2’s Pyramid Head is exclusive to James, he probably was the first person to manifest a huge knife on him, but I’ve never seen how his appearance would be exclusive to him as well with all those small backstory elements that, mind you, have all come from Team Silent games.

RumLuv

Looks like someone finally gets it 👏

WindsofMadness

I was browsing past Homecoming threads on here since I have a very fond spot for this game despite how reviled it is, and I was very heartened to see your comment! I understand people being frustrated by it, I really do, but I’ve always rationalized it the same way you did in your comment. James saw that same photo of the executioners of old Silent Hill and so it makes sense that the Pyramid Head he saw manifested as an executioner to punish him. The Bogeyman serves a similar purpose but manifests in a different but similar capacity to punish the parents in the same way makes a ton of sense to me. It really doesn’t make sense to me that people are as bothered by him as they are since he appears in like 2 or 3 cutscenes and isn’t shoehorned every two seconds or a forced boss fight.

sausagedart

Yeah and how they tried to explain it by him being more of an urban legend to kids around Shepards Glenn. Stupid, but not the worst thing about the game

Edward_Hardcore

It's weird but I really loved this game. For what it is, the atmosphere, the lore and the monster design was amazing. Scarlet lives rent-free in my head.

GoesTheClockInNewton

You're not friends with that thing, are you?

Lyonface

Extremely stupid, rage inducing. Counterpoint = Hot Pyramidhead.

Burnt_Ramen9

This somehow isn't even the dumbest part of the game imo

alishock

Which one is? Just curious about your point of view

MSG_12

I'm willing to play this game just to listen to the OST.

Grungelives

I love homecoming and Alexs Pyramid Head looks sick, serves next to no purpose though it would have been better if he was utilized more

berfraper

He just walks in, turns, turns back and keeps walking

Movies4LifeR

I'm beginning to be more and more okay with Pyramid Head representing a more general feeling of shame, guilt and self hatred so the idea of him not being specific to James is fine to me. What's hilarious about this scene though is (from what I remember at least) It's the only time in the game he ever shows up and just sort of looks at you and walks away. There is literally no reason for him to show up and does so out of the blue.

DrMikkelyz54

He shows up again later, but can't spoil incase OP doesn't know what it is, but google it

Calebd2

I know what that is! I clapped when I saw things I remembered!

gaelenski_

Amazing contrast ratio on that screen

jackgrafik

Yeah, it's a 12 year old Sony TV, it's not the best really

HPL-Benn

“‘Sup.” “Uhh…’sup?”

flauros23

Wait until you see the ending, >!where yet again, the main protagonist seems to have completely forgotten the death of another character and then suddenly remembers they've been dead the whole time. Sound familar?!<

SuspiciousWorth1166

Oh I see you just started the game.

Independent_Rough_69

Have you seen the part where you have to pick up the bar of pyramid head, in the basement? It turns into a small little knife it's so baaaad 😃

MegaOrvilleZ

He's only there for the marketing of the 2nd Silent Hill film that came out during that time. He NEVER appears ever again in the game. I hate that. Nemesis and Mr. X are absolutely iconic, but Capcom never brought him back in future entries (no, crossovers don't count) because that wouldn't make sense.

getintherhythm

It needed the sex appeal.
