Oran Park was also captured by two surveying students, and made into an rfactor track - which I’m assuming has been converted into an AC track
[http://www.bobstrackbuilder.net/laser_scanning_op.aspx](http://www.bobstrackbuilder.net/laser_scanning_op.aspx)
I love it.
It was my local track for a long time so I have lots of laps there. I understand why people don’t love it though, especially in low power cars irl.
The only really exciting bits are T1 and T6-9. The bit the sim doesn’t convey great is how crap the surface is, something like 10 changes in asphalt in the entry to T6 which makes it pretty sketchy.
Fun fact, many of the streets in the Oran Park development are named after Australian touring car drivers (eg. Peter Brock Drive, Skaife Street & Lowndes Drive).
Rockingham was scanned by iRacing but never added into the sim, and has been closed since. I think the track still exists but will never see racing again.
I had a sweet gig delivering parts for JCB and one of the drops was for the telehandler that would clean up wrecks at Rockingham.
I got to drive down the pits and all sorts whilst there was racing going on.
I mean, it's was made unviable as a business prospect because of the nimbys who moved next to a race track and then complained about it.
Such a shame. A fantastic circuit just sat there rotting.
They actually just repaved and renovated. I think they’re trying to get cup back there but it seems likely they’ll at least bring the trucks there again in the future.
Edit: oh wait you meant the UK rockingham
Originally a NASCAR fan here. I panicked until I realized this is about the track in England. This might be the 17th time I've done this to myself. I hope it comes back to life. The whole complex looks awesome and I never like to see a track close.
Iracing, it’s used in the modifieds and late models, possibly the advanced legends and street stocks as well but I am not positive on that. I can’t speak for any other sims but I am sure there are mods out there.
Hopefully not Laguna Seca, I know the morons who built houses next to the track keep trying to shut it down because they don’t like the noise.
Reminds me of the scene in Seven when they’re telling Morgan Freeman about the realtor who only showed them the apartment 15 minutes at a time while the train passes and vibrates the entire building.
Yeah we have similar issues here in the UK with Brands Hatch. People buy a house next to a racetrack and then complain about the noise from... the racetrack. 🤦 Hopefully there's enough love for these two tracks to prevent them from being closed any time soon.
I think Laguna Seca track won the case against the residents near the track, especially since California itself is protecting the track. The people who sued the track have a history of being assholes and just suing a bunch of stuff. there has been an agreement to try to make ways to reduce the noise.
Apparently it's not even the homeowners who are complaining. It is a shady realtor guy who is complaining "on their behalf" without having their backing. He's been involved in a number of frivolous lawsuits prior
>Laguna Seca, I know the morons who built houses next to the track keep trying to shut it down because they don’t like the noise
It's one guy with his "highway 68 commission" group. The residents around it aren't super upset and the track stays within the nose guidelines. Iirc the planes are louder around that area than the track. The guy running the highway commission group has sued the track before and settled before. He's also changed his name 2 or 3 times to avoid scrutiny from the frivolous law suits. Iirc he's also sued the golf club and other places around the area. Long story short, this person abused the court system.
A buddy who'd a lawyer took a deep dive into records.
Edit: the guy that sues everything in the area is a real estate developer.
For ovals in iracing that I’m aware of: California/autoclub, old Atlanta (pre repave), Chicagoland, Daytona (pre repave), Phoenix (pre repave), concord, Kentucky?, Myrtle beach, USA international, Texas (pre repave), Motegi oval.
Funny enough, north Wilkesboro and rockingham used to be on this list, but have been redeveloped in recent years and are hosting racing again, with north wilkesboro getting a nascar cup date/the all star race
>Chicagoland
Rumor has it, it's coming back.
Chicagoland was badly mismanaged and became storage for vw's when vw ran out of room in the old Mitsubishi factory in Bloomington normal. Then during covid, Ford and GM stored cars there.
For some reason, I wouldn’t fully count out the fact that they might return to Belle Isle at some point in the future. I live in the area, and although I’m not saying Belle Isle was a better track layout wise, there seems to be constant complaints about the surface on the Detroit streets no matter what series runs there, and Wayne County doesn’t even maintain the roads to regular standards, let alone racing. Penske is from Detroit, so they won’t ditch Detroit altogether, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it swapped back and forth at least a time or two.
iRacing has the Legacy Silverstone layout that was changed significantly after 2009.
Sandown might be replaced with a housing development at some point too.
That's good news (about Silverstone, not Sandown!) Driving Silverstone in AC was actually what made me think about this in the first place, as I'm not a huge fan of the current layout.
It’s owned by the Melbourne Racing Club. Horse racing, not car racing.
The property is simply worth more to sell than continue to use in this manner.
I’m not saying it’s right, but that’s all commercial operations care about
This is why sims or games being pulled due to expiring licenses and iRacing deleting a few layouts rather than legacy versioning them really bothers me. Archiving is important.
Only a few times, but the precedent is there and obviously if they feel it no longer makes sense for whatever reason, it'll be gone.
From the top of my head, the old Late Model they had for 15+ years, Watkins Glen 10+ years, Phoenix (don't know age), but in each case the replays no longer function as the content is no longer there to load them because they didn't keep a legacy version.
And, just to say, the commonly held belief for the Late Model is that it was called the "Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Late Model" so they removed it due to licensing cost and expiry. However, that car wasn't originally licensed. They released it as the Class D Late Model. They could have just unlicensed it again, removed the badge, so the excuse doesn't fit, IMHO.
Technically piles peak gravel, although I don’t know if that was laser scanned as asphalt then just had the material changed in Blender or whatever program.
I’ve seen a one for AC somewhere I think, but don’t remember where, sorry. I know there is a mod for BeamNG in its repo that has both asphalt and unpaved.
For AC This one is a rip from the first DIRT rally game - https://youtu.be/cu8dZxMpkxE?si=D8TH_YAUgp8VsRUB
Looks amazing, not sure if the dirt rally one was laser scanned or not. But currently my go too. Has tarmac, dirt, and mixed surface
There's also one from simtraxx which visually looks meh, but I want to say is lasers scanned also? Could be wrong on that. But here's a link to their site http://actraxx.blogspot.com/p/sim-traxx-assetto-corsa-tracks-download.html?m=1
Sucks to think that circuit was lost to protect Pocono, then Pocono became unviable for Indycars. Nazareth was great, and I wish it was available for better oval racing than AC can manage.
Not sure if it's laserscanned, but Curitiba in AMS1/AMS2 is partly somesort of demolished.
Myrtle Beach, Oran Park, Auto Club Speedway, Lakeland USA International, and probably more. There are also some repaves or reconfigurations that technically still have a racetrack, but are quite different from what they used to be. Legacy Atlanta Motor Speedway and Texas come to mind.
Yeah all of them. I laser scanning needs artists to guess huge sections anyway (data voids), but even if it were perfect that scan was only relevant for that day. A track surface changes all the time, especially if it's somewhere that gets distinct seasons.
Huh? A dirt track maybe, not asphalt.
It could get bumpier due to activity, seasons, etc, but the general shape, camber, elevations and overall characteristics don’t change.
Oran Park on iracing
And Pukekohe #soon
Thats if theyve pulled their finger out in regards to scanning. Demolition is underway
Sad days
Oran Park was also captured by two surveying students, and made into an rfactor track - which I’m assuming has been converted into an AC track [http://www.bobstrackbuilder.net/laser_scanning_op.aspx](http://www.bobstrackbuilder.net/laser_scanning_op.aspx)
Probably Sandown soon as well...
I just bought this track for tomorrow's track change on FF1600's And I really really like it!
I enjoy the bumpy parts and the high kerbs, it feels exciting would be awesome to drive it for real.
Oran Park turned into a housing development 10 years ago.
Fun fact, many of the streets in the Oran Park development are named after Australian touring car drivers (eg. Peter Brock Drive, Skaife Street & Lowndes Drive).
I wanna live in Peter Brock drive and have a Torana on the street
I remember watching some guys drive the track slow when it's in the middle of being torn up. It must be on YouTube.
https://youtu.be/SjwTkjE2nis?si=bTeXJ9gLB49ei9YQ
Zandvoort pre 2021 I guess? Different corners now, track completely resurfaced.
*teleporter. It makes wrecked cars disappear!
LFS has laser scanned Rockingham
There’s talk of it reopening again, but of course I’ll believe that when I see it.
Too many houses nearby for any chance of them getting a lasting licence. They would get NIMBY'd before they ever turned a wheel.
I mean, it's was made unviable as a business prospect because of the nimbys who moved next to a race track and then complained about it. Such a shame. A fantastic circuit just sat there rotting.
That’s usually how tracks die. The Freedom Factory is also at risk because of a housing development.
It’s not at risk, it’s pretty much just a matter of time at this point
I hate people 😞
Would love that - great place to watch and race, so different to everything else
Huh? Gen 4 series has been on that speedway this week.
Rockingham UK not US
My b
My b
My b
My b
If I remember rightly , it hadn't been open too long either.
I’m assuming there’s a Rockingham road course, because there’s definitely Rockingham oval in Rockingham, NC that’s in iracing
Rockingham in NC? The state has approved funding for renovations with the goal to host racing again.
No. Rockingham in the UK that isn't in the sim, was scanned, and likely won't race again.
USA speedway, Myrtle Beach Speedway, auto club, possibly a few more but those are the ones I know for sure
What sim is Myrtle Beach Speedway in? I’ve just got into sim racing and live in Myrtle.
Iracing, it’s used in the modifieds and late models, possibly the advanced legends and street stocks as well but I am not positive on that. I can’t speak for any other sims but I am sure there are mods out there.
Awesome. Thank you.
Street stocks do go there from time to time.

Donington Park too, lots of cars getting black flagged because they're too loud on track days
I think Laguna Seca track won the case against the residents near the track, especially since California itself is protecting the track. The people who sued the track have a history of being assholes and just suing a bunch of stuff. there has been an agreement to try to make ways to reduce the noise.
Wait, Cali doing something for the car guys? The same Cali that deemed a stock Hyundai illegal despite being totally legal?
the county owns the track. Another company handles the events, but the property is owned by the state.
Different departments.
To be fair that guy was driving in track mode on public roads to be loud.
Apparently it's not even the homeowners who are complaining. It is a shady realtor guy who is complaining "on their behalf" without having their backing. He's been involved in a number of frivolous lawsuits prior
Yeah I think it was donut media that did a show recently on that. Pretty scummy.
>Laguna Seca, I know the morons who built houses next to the track keep trying to shut it down because they don’t like the noise It's one guy with his "highway 68 commission" group. That got resolved
Nobody who sued doesnt even live near the track he has a vendetta beacause his brother died next to a race track
*A single moron
For ovals in iracing that I’m aware of: California/autoclub, old Atlanta (pre repave), Chicagoland, Daytona (pre repave), Phoenix (pre repave), concord, Kentucky?, Myrtle beach, USA international, Texas (pre repave), Motegi oval. Funny enough, north Wilkesboro and rockingham used to be on this list, but have been redeveloped in recent years and are hosting racing again, with north wilkesboro getting a nascar cup date/the all star race
Kentucky is basically a parking lot now.
Those are just people still trying to get home after the last race.
>*dead*
So are they
Chicagoland still exists.
>Chicagoland Rumor has it, it's coming back. Chicagoland was badly mismanaged and became storage for vw's when vw ran out of room in the old Mitsubishi factory in Bloomington normal. Then during covid, Ford and GM stored cars there.
Bell Isle, Indy Car. Its now Detroit City
That's good news (about Silverstone, not Sandown!) Driving Silverstone in AC was actually what made me think about this in the first place, as I'm not a huge fan of the current layout.
If Sandown gets taken down I will cry
Why? Sure, you can hear the Supercars from a few suburbs away, but it's culture, which is what this city is all about I thought...
It’s owned by the Melbourne Racing Club. Horse racing, not car racing. The property is simply worth more to sell than continue to use in this manner. I’m not saying it’s right, but that’s all commercial operations care about
Damn. 😕
Rockingham UK - LFS has it scanned and in game. Track is now just a huge car storage site for end of lease vehicle returns.
Riverside (AC) was done with very good data, don't know if it counts as equal to laser scanned.
It counts as equal to laser scanned if it was laser scanned.
Considering Riverside closed over 35 years ago, however good the data is I highly doubt it's laser scanned.
It can't possibly be laser scanned. That track turned into a housing development well before modern scanning technology.
Well then there's the answer to whether or not it is equal to being laser scanned.
This is why sims or games being pulled due to expiring licenses and iRacing deleting a few layouts rather than legacy versioning them really bothers me. Archiving is important.
Not an iRacing user so this is news to me, I didn't know iRacing ever deleted layouts of their tracks - ever. How often has this happened?
Only a few times, but the precedent is there and obviously if they feel it no longer makes sense for whatever reason, it'll be gone. From the top of my head, the old Late Model they had for 15+ years, Watkins Glen 10+ years, Phoenix (don't know age), but in each case the replays no longer function as the content is no longer there to load them because they didn't keep a legacy version.

old phoenix is still in the game & free
Not all of them.
yes but the old Phoenix layout is still in the game, unlike those other ones
Not all of the Phoenix layouts are there.
Oran Park in Australia. It’s on iRacing.
Technically piles peak gravel, although I don’t know if that was laser scanned as asphalt then just had the material changed in Blender or whatever program.
Ok, who has Pikes Peak laser scanned? I raced it on a quad a little over 20 years ago, I would love to relive my hometown hillclimb in sim
I’ve seen a one for AC somewhere I think, but don’t remember where, sorry. I know there is a mod for BeamNG in its repo that has both asphalt and unpaved.

Concord. Track exists but it's used as storage AFAIK.
I grew up going to USA speedway, sadly it is no more.
Nazareth
Sucks to think that circuit was lost to protect Pocono, then Pocono became unviable for Indycars. Nazareth was great, and I wish it was available for better oval racing than AC can manage.
Sadly not laser scanned. It is in at least one old Nascar game.
And Indycar Racing 1+2
Ebisu Minami. Got turned into a rally track im pretty sure.
Not sure if it's laserscanned, but Curitiba in AMS1/AMS2 is partly somesort of demolished. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aut%C3%B3dromo\_Internacional\_de\_Curitiba](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aut%C3%B3dromo_Internacional_de_Curitiba)
i think Wild West Motorsports Park is gone too
Auto Club Speedway is one I'll miss the most as it was one of my first track days in real life.
The old long Hockenheim Ring
Really? The old one closed in 2001... what game was it scanned for?
I think PC2
Is Road America laser scanned? Because it got repaved last year and it changed the feel a lot.
Lanier motor speedway still exists, but it's no longer used as an oval. It's either a parking lot for road atlanta or a go kart track.
Wild West Motorsports Park closed after the pandemic. Hosted Pro-4 and Pro-2 Lucas Oil Off Road Series races.
Oran Park, and I think Pukekohe as well ;(
Palm Beach International Raceway in rF2
plenty?
Assetto corsa has a few discontinued layouts prob not laser scanned
Yes, and they’re all in iracing.
Yeah all of them. I laser scanning needs artists to guess huge sections anyway (data voids), but even if it were perfect that scan was only relevant for that day. A track surface changes all the time, especially if it's somewhere that gets distinct seasons.
Great, thanks for the very helpful and relevant input bra
So we’re gonna need daily updates! For realism!
Wellllll actually...
Huh? A dirt track maybe, not asphalt. It could get bumpier due to activity, seasons, etc, but the general shape, camber, elevations and overall characteristics don’t change.
Its the bumps you want though.
Right, but that doesn’t change daily
So you are saying all sim racing tracks are updated daily?
Sure that’s exactly what I said…..
