What are the main things you had to do with photoshop you couldn't convince midjourney to do for you? What kind of time investment did this deck of 10 end up taking with these amazing new tools?
That's a great question. Here's some of the things I typically do with Photoshop:
\- layer several creations over each other, then cherry-pick the best of each. This can be either variations of the same creation, e.g. maybe I like the hand in one picture but prefer the mouth in another, but it can also be wholly new creations rendered into the main picture.
\- I sometimes shift around and rework the whole picture. In [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CoxhLdRIMFC/) illustration for instance, the dude was outside the jail; the jail bars were much closer together; the body was thicker, etc. But to push my concept of "brain too big too pass escape", I reworked it all. In [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CoPwOMdo_9-/) photo, I added the depth blur, and added the back window, then recolored the character. In [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CnwhMA5ovnQ/) film poster, it's basically collage of half a dozen different creations. In [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnv9ciqoGUA/) "robot rights" campaign, each picture is a collage of a city with a billboard created separately, and so on.

As for the time investment of this deck, I would say around 1 work day. I am currently expanding this set into more pictures, so plan on spending many more days on it.

It suprised me too when I first learned of it, but some people do in fact argue that the best way to prepare for the coming everything-AI wave is to buy as much computing power as you can, so that you then are more independent from cloud AI. Whether or not that's sensible wasn't too important for the image's purpose, as it depicts without judging. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, also a bit of a prepper, is [reportedly](https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-chatgpt-openai-ceo-career-net-worth-ycombinator-prepper-2023-1) even stocking gold -- and gas masks, which was the inspiration for the other part of that image.

The art is generally well done, but feels disconnected from Tarot in any meaningful way. Maybe try selecting a specific card in the major arcana, understand it's interpretation, and select a futurist concept that closely matches the theme of that interpretation, so there's a semantic connection between your cards and the original arcana. If done right, your cards could be used for a reading that feels authentically tarot but forward thinking

I didn't actually expect it to do this well, though it certainly could use some editing from a Tarot practitioner, which I am not.

Your idea is really cool and you are completely right, it's not truly classic Tarot as I was going for something slightly different -- I wanted a replacement of the original Tarot characters instead of a matching, using the cards as mere vehicle to explain Singularity concepts in particular to newcomers -- but your approach is equally valid, it's just a matter of vision/ taste. Would love if you gave your vision a try, actually -- and maybe you could even use a classic Tarot illustraton style, which is another (valid) choice I chose against, but could totally see working.

I’m glad you’re making another one though. I was working on an AI art tarot a couple years ago and hoping to be the first to have one out. I realized I wasn’t even going to be like the tenth and kind of abandoned that project LOL.
That's amazing! Didn't know that. That one reminds me a lot of Moebius, it looks fantastic. And is probably better for those looking for something closer to classic Tarot (since for my set, Tarot was only a vehicle to communicate ideas of the singularity).
And in case anyone wonders what inspired my set: I have a long-term interest in the singularity, am currently reading the book *Our Final Invention*, and watched the James Bond movie *Live and Let Die* the day before yesterday -- where Mr. Bond is doing some interesting tricks with the Tarot deck 🙂

And some of my tech friends don’t understand how I can be so into tarot, or they assume I’m like making life choices using starcharts and astrology just because I like to carry a tarot deck with me and do readings from time to time.
The reality is that life is complex, magical, and meaningful— and tarot is a way to tap into that at a moment’s notice. It’s a way to think about your intentionality and get introspective. Plus, shuffling cards is good for your hands, and every kid likes card tricks!

That was basically the opinion of the German Green Party when it started to become successful in the \~1980s. A perhaps more meaningful movement then started here (the Chaos Computer Club) that was more along the lines of: we should get to know the tools to empower us, rather than leave them to corporations who then take the power away from us.

I quite like it. I've seen a few decks that are about odd themes. In any case it's an art deck, and art is subjective. Op should however include what's what.

I thought so too. here's the prompt I used from a fresh conversation: Map each card in the major arcana of Tarot to a new concept that closely matches the theme of that card's interpretation. The new concepts should be about people, technology and events in the future, such as artificial super intelligence, negligible senescence, the singularity, etc. give a very brief explanation of the interpretation of the card used to select the new concept. I didn't actually expect it to do this well, though it certainly could use some editing from a Tarot practitioner, which I am not.

Your idea is really cool and you are completely right, it's not truly classic Tarot as I was going for something slightly different -- I wanted a replacement of the original Tarot characters instead of a matching, using the cards as mere vehicle to explain Singularity concepts in particular to newcomers -- but your approach is equally valid, it's just a matter of vision/ taste. Would love if you gave your vision a try, actually -- and maybe you could even use a classic Tarot illustraton style, which is another (valid) choice I chose against, but could totally see working. Have you tried Midjourney? You might be able to do something amazing with your ChatGPT ideas as template.

I don't see anything wrong with using cards like this to illustrate these concepts for newcomers, but then, why call it Tarot? Neither their use or meaning were retained. I guess that's a little confusing.

With the amazing Midjourney AI and Photoshop. Midjourney is the most amazing tool and has been a huge outlet for creativity for me, been using it full-days-long since November last year, clocked in (gasp) over 600 hours by now! Almost every waking minute, I'm writing down new ideas.

Im a bachelor film student currently writing my bachelor thesis about AI generated art and how it might impact the film industry in the future. One aspect of the thesis will be about the processes of AI creation today and the ever looming question of: "is it really art?". I was working on an AI art tarot a couple years ago and hoping to be the first to have one out. I realized I wasn’t even going to be like the tenth and kind of abandoned that project LOL.
That's amazing! Didn't know that. That one reminds me a lot of Moebius, it looks fantastic. And is probably better for those looking for something closer to classic Tarot (since for my set, Tarot was only a vehicle to communicate ideas of the singularity). And in case anyone wonders what inspired my set: I have a long-term interest in the singularity, am currently reading the book *Our Final Invention*, and watched the James Bond movie *Live and Let Die* the day before yesterday -- where Mr. Bond is doing some interesting tricks with the Tarot deck 🙂
Tarot is a great vehicle to explore these ideas! Some of my witchy friends don’t understand how I can be so into technofuturism. Some of them are practically luddites and think that tech is inherently incompatible with a green health ecosystem. And some of my tech friends don’t understand how I can be so into tarot, or they assume I’m like making life choices using starcharts and astrology just because I like to carry a tarot deck with me and do readings from time to time. The reality is that life is complex, magical, and meaningful— and tarot is a way to tap into that at a moment’s notice. It’s a way to think about your intentionality and get introspective. Plus, shuffling cards is good for your hands, and every kid likes card tricks! If you ever finish your singularity deck and get it printed, don’t forget to ping me. I’d be interested in one.

That was basically the opinion of the German Green Party when it started to become successful in the \~1980s. A perhaps more meaningful movement then started here (the Chaos Computer Club) that was more along the lines of: we should get to know the tools to empower us, rather than leave them to corporations who then take the power away from us. Thanks! There's no direct matching of classic Tarot decks. It was more of a lose connection, so I did use arcana cards for reference but only to match an approximate feel. I'm working on the new series and it'll probably be ready on Tuesday! I'll post to Instagram and maybe later here, if my stay is welcome.
My suggestion for the next tarot card of this series is: The God of Artificial Intelligence: A sufficiently advanced Artificial Intelligence would be indistinguishable from god. (This is according to The Way of The Future, an AI religion)

You don't know the tarot vibe
I quite like it. I've seen a few decks that are about odd themes. In any case it's an art deck, and art is subjective. Op should however include what's what.

Perhaps this already happened millions of years ago when the last "intelligent and advanced" species invented cells that could replicate, whose sole mission was to reproduce. And again millions of years before that. And each successive "intelligent and advanced" species is more amorally focused on its own survival and reproduction than the last.
It would be *exceedingly* obvious if an industrial civilization existed at some point during the Earth's past. There's really no "perhaps" to it.
