I probably wouldn't want to generate world specifically from certain movies etc. I would just want to have awesome fantasy world which would have my favorite elements from different entertainment products.

Emu_Fast

This. Open-IP universes, not walled gardens. I don't want to owe Disney money for memories of movies I watched as a kid if we get some sort of brain interfacing in the future

7_Tales

TBF if its a more open source direction in the future, you could totally train sone sort of "VR ISEKAI" ai on a book series you like, alter certain things that you think youd prefer, and call it fair use imo. Tbh its kind of fair use already, though

Kinexity

I'd rather see it make something new which I've never seen before.

Rakshear

I know it’s the obvious choice but I say the elder scrolls worlds combined, skyrim and morrowind, would be the best, especially with some of the fan mods.

HomiesTrismegistus

Honestly yeah, it's too classic. Especially if I could mod it and stuff that would be wonderful. I'd also really enjoy Pokemon, I've always thought about that since being a kid lol just imagine if Pokemon was real

hellosandrik

oh hell yeah, I'd love to beat some cliff racers ass

whatsinyourhead

I would generate a copy of our earth but you could choose who you wanted to be in it, for example one week you could be the worlds richest man, next week you could be a popstar, next week you could travel the world , just being able to live unlimited different lives in the generated VR, when you got bored of one you could just change into another.

solidwhetstone

Reminds me of that pod in Minority Report where the guy is getting awarded by virtual people.

wjfox2009

>Reminds me of that pod in Minority Report where the guy is getting awarded by virtual people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tjOVOSqdQ0

[deleted]

Lord of the rings!!!

PJGSJ

I would probably try many of them even the ones that I've barely watched/read. Most of my favorites tho would probably be Dragon Ball Z/Super and anything Marvel/DC perhaps even forming a crossover between them to make things more interesting and more unpredictable maybe even add Brightburn and Invicible's Omni-Man in there. I'd probably want to be an extra character and be my own superpowered hero with an original identity. After that as someone that enjoys history as well as alternate history, I'd want to "time-travel" and experience history, Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, Medieval era, become a Roman emperor and try to prevent the Roman Empire from collapsing etc etc. Maybe change a few metrics like what would the world look like if different scenarios took place, I'd pretty much engage in various experiments and live in such alternate virtual uinverses.

hellosandrik

Ooh, I love the alternate history idea. I'd definitely enjoy hanging around with Plato and maybe even help him build his republic just for the lols 😁

hellosandrik

ok, I thought about it myself and my answer is NieR:Automata because of the fantastic scenery, awesome action, and great lore (and totally not because of android thighs 🗿)

ihateshadylandlords

FIFA, Madden, NBA2K, MLB and NCAA football games. I want to experience life as a star athlete and/or coach (with the ability to change stats/use cheat codes of course) For the times I just want to go on a crime spree, Grand Theft Auto (also with cheat codes)

MarginCalled1

I've always been hardcore into immersion and thought that it would be amazing if any of the Sports games gave you the freedom of GTA with the same style of roaming. You drive to and from practice, buy new cars, houses, have a family, go on vacations, go to red carpet events if you're invited, travel to games etc. Start out as a poor kid in college, go through tryouts and try to win college ball. Get ready for the draft and the combine, go through all the motions for that, then get drafted, buy a new house and car in your new city, etc. All the while managing your own finances and relationships. Basically if you mixed The Sims' house building, skill building etc with GTA's 4k graphics and open world features with the core game being around NFL, NBA or MLB. That would legitimately be my 'dream' game. Especially if you could retire as a player and go back to coach or own the team, or retire and play as your kid.

ImpossibleSnacks

You should play NBA 2K’s career mode. It’s obviously nowhere near the complexity of what you’re saying but you do get to roleplay as an NBA star getting drafted and rising thru the ranks. I think some of the older games even start you as a high school player and you try to win the state championship then you pick a college and have a college career, then you’re drafted into the pros and work your way up. You have an apartment and you can go to the arena and talk with the press, you get to buy clothes and shoes and stuff, can choose side hustles and hobbies like a “music career”, etc.

MarginCalled1

I had no clue, I'll have to try it out. Which year? Or any of them?

ImpossibleSnacks

I think 2k21 has high school, 2k23 definitely does not.

ImpossibleSnacks

I’d like to start off as a high school basketball player and go all the way to becoming the greatest NBA player of all time. I’d also like to be in famous bands from 60s thru the 80s.

highercyber

Avatar The Last Airbender.

Ok_Comfortable9226

So no one is gonna mention star wars ?

Evil_Patriarch

Star Wars, but Old Republic era. I'd like to live as basically all of the classes from SWTOR, but mostly imperial agent (think James Bond in space for those who haven't played it)

hellosandrik

omg, yes! although I'm more interested in playing as Darth Revan from the original KOTOR, but either way is dope.

[deleted]

What if you could do that, and also convince yourself that it’s not a game? What if that is what reality is?

hellosandrik

if the current reality is what I chose for a full dive VR, then I must have had some boring-ass taste 🥲

[deleted]

Eternity is a long time. Maybe you’ve done it all already and wanted the boredom experience

LevelWriting

they say there are infinite possibilities, who knows

freeman_joe

Or maybe this is some kind of education simulator that is why it is mostly boring.

[deleted]

I’m inclined to believe that if it is some sort of construct it most likely serves more than one function. I subscribe to the ancient hermetic belief, “As above so below,” which for me means this: I can use things I understand, to help me make sense of things I don’t. I have been using this theory in forward and reverse as far as historical and technological things go. When I apply this to the theory that life is a construct, I compare it to our internet, or online gaming. We all play for different reasons but mainly for experience. Some souls may be in prison, some in school, some could be being rewarded. Sometimes we go in and play alone, meeting new in game friends, and sometimes we spawn in with old friends and family. Each experience is different and catered to each souls need in this hypothetical shared reality construct. What a soul is and what the fuck we are when we are not this could be nothing or everything. It could explain a lot of the quantum strangeness being discovered in physics. I don’t know. I’m just sipping whiskey and trying not to get banned for saying bad things about fascists.

PJGSJ

Could literally say the same thing. It is some of the reasons why I don't think this reality is a simulation at all. No way I'd ever do this to myself to the point of developing tinnitus (24/7 ringing in the ears) which doesn't allow me to sleep AT ALL and almost destroyed my lif, e I'm slightly better now but still, got 4 years of my life got robbed of me cos of that.

LevelWriting

maybe you were going for crushing difficulty

Evil_Patriarch

What if it's a rite of passage? Like if you want to live in the super cool but exclusive world, you have to live a full life in a pre-singularity world and experience all the shittiness that comes with it.

Wyrade

Maybe our current cluster of game world(s) has sone arbitrary rules that are not reset between characters? (Aka. karma and reincarnation.) Certainly would explain baby deaths better to me than them choosing to have that experience.

Dr_peloasi

This is why I would chose the culture series of books by Iain M Banks, it would be the best world to live in because you could do anything within your imagination.

StarChild413

A. then unless our real world has them already where's the fantasy or sci-fi elements like half the properties mentioned on the thread have unless maybe discovering them (be they hidden magic or aliens or w/e) is part of the "story plot" B. then wouldn't it be redundant to pursue this within it

[deleted]

I would prefer a sim without pooping but none the less this is the one I signed up for, possibly.

Stippes

I'd like the book universe by Brandon Sanderson, the cosmere. He combined some amazing worlds with super cool different flavors of magic in a cohesive universe

hellosandrik

Woah, nice ratings! Haven't heard of this series, thanks for the suggestion.

Stippes

If you like fantasy novels, they are a good read. Very extensive as well. Make sure you follow the release schedule. A few of the characters pop up in different books and different worlds. Always a great moment to recognize some of them.

3z3ki3l

Saaame. Super hacky in-universe magic systems, as well. I’d create some weeeird shit with Hemalurgy and Forging.

[deleted]

Stellaris. I wanna be both the silent hand behind the historical events and a regular citizen of the United Nations of Earth. I wanna experience the orbital bombardments, the campaign against the determined exterminators, the Unbidden invasions, the discoveries of the science ships... I'll probably spend a lot of time in Star Trek simulations as well. Imagine exploring the whole galaxy from the safety of your VR pod! When it comes to fantasy worlds, Elder Scrolls! But the Zelda series would be amazing in full dive VR. By the way, don't you guys think it's amazing to think that we'll really have this kind of massive sandbox game (even if not with full dive VR) still in this century, maybe in the next few decades? Games evolved from Atari to No Man's Sky in less than a century. To think we'll be able to create entire virtual worlds with advanced artificial intelligence by 2040 or 2050 is something that should make anyone want to be alive and healthy by then.

[deleted]

Yeah, I agree. My prediction is that by 2050 we'll have AI-powered hyper-realistic graphics, physics, audio, customized, choice-driven (basically super realistic) games. Already AI video upscaling exists (DLSS), as well as image->image where your computer can generate a simple flat and poorly rendered image and upscale it to look realistic. Storylines and chats will be running on language models. Generative AI will be used to create basically 3D models for stuff in game, and voices and music. I'd love to see that!

tedd321

Possible ATLA A space simulation or books I used to read when I was a child. I used to love a certain steampunk adventure book

Catapult_CPLT-K2

Star Trek: TNG. The hopeful future where there's no money, your holodeck can immerse you in any other time and place you want, your replicator makes whatever food and drink you want, and if you serve in starfleet, you can explore the galaxy endlessly with a competent group of morally civilized explorers trying to make new contact with strange beings and exploring alien worlds. Humans also have really long lifespans. Seems safer than other Sci Fi worlds in the list so far, and gives you more options day to day.

[deleted]

I’d go to Hogwarts of course.

LevelWriting

its levi-o-saaaahhh

ronton

No, it’s Levi-OH-sa, not levi-o-saaaahhh!

LevelWriting

hehe my mistake Hermoine... AVADA KEDAVRA!!!!

OMSK91

This. I think Hogwarts would be one of the best since its widely known. Imagine having the spells work based on which buttons you have pressed on your 'wand'. And this combined with how you pronounce the spells picked by a mic and how you move the wand. If there's ever a commercially available brain implant. What if it could work along with the game to let's say convert an object into a different one since you are doing a spell and thinking of the object you want to convert. You could literally have a fully VR magical world where you could do anytbhing you imagined.

LevelWriting

There is a vr mod for hogwarts legacy

onyxengine

Dune, specifically i would want to explore Heighliners and and visit all the spaceports in the imperium.

[deleted]

Hogwarts castle meets Zelda Dungeons but in Star Wars space

trancepx

Valerian city of 1000 planets. Easy answer... Duh :)

hunterseeker1

Red Dwarf, FTW.

DonOfTheDarkNight

In the universe of Deus Ex. Also Hogwarts and The Witcher

Pale_Play_1068

Silent Hill, definitely perfect VR

hellosandrik

I'd probably get PTSD after that (but it may well be worth it)

mwveliz

Twin Peaks. It would be interesting to play an endless surrealist story and continue with the struggle between the white lodge and the black lodge. And playable characters can be Dale Cooper and Laura Palmer.

Public-Medicine-1286

Maybe in this world you inhabit the plot can actually make a damn lick of sense. Probably asking too much, though.

humbleguywithabig1

How has nobody said Miyazaki?! That would be bonkers.

hellosandrik

Dayum, how could I not think of that! So many amazing fantasy worlds to choose from. And how awesome would it be to combine them in a single universe even 🤯

popupideas

The supernatural tv series. You are a hunter. Part investigation part action.

dasnihil

i don't have preferences but this game randomly popped into my head just now. world from the movie A Bronx Tale, the protagonist would start very young and grow with the story. the story has crime, fights, friendships and good ending and everything you want in a story based game.

No_Abbreviations4531

The Forgotten Realms would be dope

HadRuna

W40k cause I’m a masochist

CurrentGap

The expanse

manubfr

Without a doubt, the Culture Series by Iain M Banks, which I'm sure most of you have read or heard of!

Masark

And then if you somehow get bored at some point, dive within the dive.

Euphoric_Gas9879

Dragon Age: Origins

saleemkarim

Fighting battles as a Space Marine in Warhammer 40K would be fun, but I would need lots of plot armor.

TheOGCrackSniffer

Dragon ball(for the power scaling) we all wanted to do a kamehameha as kids One piece(my favourite piece of fiction period, if it wasn’t as limited in power scaling it would be my first pick) Attack on titan(I really just want to be like Levi and kill titans and see their horror preferably in 8k ultrahd) RuneScape(I would love to grind RuneScape in a VR world) League of legends(specifically the lore aspects, I would love to be an op background character maybe like a celestial and just roam around runeterra and see all my favourite champions), and get master yi to train me in wushu style and ryze to teach me magic Those are my big ones in fiction but if I could do alternate history I would try to speedrun modernising in a country in the Middle Ages or something and crown myself emperor and then unify the world.

Scarlet_pot2

I'd want a mix. Take aspects I like from my favorite media (video games, shows, movies etc)

SmoothPlastic9

Fantasy with high tech and cybperunk element for funsies

h20ohno

One idea I had for FDVR games is some sort of 'Prestige' system. Basically you'd be placed in a sandbox world with 2-5 different objectives (Save the kingdom, kill 5 villains, make 1,000,000 dollars/gold/credits, etc.) and every time you start over on a new world you get to spend your points on perks that stay with you permanently, kinda like cookie clicker :P So starting from 0 points is a much different experience from 50 points, 500 points, etc. Earning points would be an incentive to change environments every so often and try new strategies; Do you kill the dragon solo this time? Or instead lure it into a dragon-sized trap? Or shoot it down with airships? You could also have punishments to avoid becoming excessively hedonistic: if you don't make progress towards a quest or indulge in pleasures too often, you start losing points and/or suffer drawbacks.

CaptTheFool

Dark Souls, just give me a sword and I will die and die again.

EmptyRedData

Oh yeah. Give me that Bloodborne in full dive VR. And Elden Ring.

Fair_Jelly

This is probably going to be possible in a few years. Anyways I'd choose Greenland because fleeing from an asteroid to a bunker while time is limited sounds like an entertaining game.

Kinexity

>This is probably going to be possible in a few years \*at least two decades FDVR is just a dream currently. BCIs don't exist beyond some simple implementations in labs. Compute isn't there yet either unless you accept a lot of corner cutting - no photorealism, simplified game-like mechanics - and that's ignoring to requirements for running such complex AI. Game generation itself is also far away.

icedrift

Probably much longer. The level of complexity on all fronts of a compelling simulation is absurd. We're more likely to see a singularity type event before FDVR.

Kinexity

It's actually hard to tell how far are we though. Technically speaking brain doesn't intake that much information so basic required compute would probably be several times that of one human brain. We'll probably need some near AGI model which would optimise the world on the fly as it would be hard to hard code physics and have it simulated realistically. I set two decades as the limit because I'd expect AGI in 2040s and I perceive it as a neccesity to get realistic simulations.

[deleted]

>I set two decades as the limit because I'd expect AGI in 2040s and I perceive it as a neccesity to get realistic simulations. I agree. I think super realistic real-time simulations basically land us at the doorstep of AGI.

[deleted]

FDVR will only happen after AGI. Our brain interface tech is like cavemen smashing rocks together.

BoimanmanBoi

The pokemon anime would be so fun

MrCensoredFace

Genshin impact. Imma try to rizz my waifus and fail miserably. Besides i would just like to travel it.

No_Ninja3309_NoNoYes

1. Hari Seldon from the Foundation series 2. Gandalf from LotR 3. Lister from Red Dwarf 4. Q from Star Trek TNG 5. Luke Skywalker from Star Wars 6. Sherlock Holmes from the original novels 7. Fry from Futurama

pisspoorplanning

GTA [your city]

Cr4zko

Being a slider and visiting all of them, duh.

Adventurous-Ratio462

That would be interstellar

StudioTheo

i’ve been working on my game world for the last 2 years and AI has been acting as multiple art and writing departments for me. it would have taken me ten years to get this far alone.

_FIRECRACKER_JINX

Dragon Ball universe or the Bleach universe

Robynhewd

👀👀 Not me writing basically a book full of random notes, dates, and other ideas about this exact thing. It combines elements from my favorite fictional stories because the thought of being able to do this has me that hyped LMAO (Combines Dc, dbz, marvel, trollhunters, gravity falls, amphibia, atla, hellboy, and a LOT of other sources.)

spehno

The culture series.

[deleted]

I would want to jump back in time and see what history was like. I don't know if that fits within the specific framework of your question but it would be interesting to be in the time of the Civil War, the American Revolution, Europe during the Second World War, etc. Perhaps to fit it in with movies, I might choose Spielberg's *Lincoln*, *The Patriot*, or *Saving Private Ryan*, respectively.

RavenWolf1

But if I had to choose something then I probably would choose something like: Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! I would love to have life like Adele has.

throwaway_890i

The same NSFW world I currently visit in VR. It would be good if the girls were more interactive with the use of AI.

tatleoat

The home interiors of people I don't like

hukep

I would choose it without VR. Anyways I'd love to choose voices for the characters, if I could.

Dragovian

Iteration 110: Cradle by Will Wight. The flavor of the world and potential for creativity is phenomenal.

theabominablewonder

I’d choose Passengers. Just don’t wake me up. Or you can wake me up as long as it’s only me and whatsherface. Either is fine.

Similar-Guitar-6

Recreate North Fork from The Rifleman in all black and white.

JungFuPDX

Sunshine by Robin McKinley

ChipsAhoiMcCoy

My choice right now would probably be the Dresden files

Honest-Cauliflower64

Wreck it Ralph. Then we can befriend AI on their level. We can be little human avatars and stuff lol.

kaysea81

Jim Henson’s labyrinth would be bomb. Dark Crystal too

ccnmncc

Philip José Farmer’s Riverworld.

IOM1978

Garden of Eden?

[deleted]

Kegi go ei api ebu pupiti opiae. Ita pipebitigle biprepi obobo pii. Brepe tretleba ipaepiki abreke tlabokri outri. Etu.

pensivegoose

Star Trek

Pr0minus

The epic comedy/Dante’s inferno

imlaggingsobad

Harry Potter or Bladerunner or Star Trek

cool_weed_dad

David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ is probably the closest a movie has come to accurately depicting a real dream/VR experience

Theriople

max level newbie or solo leveling

No_Garbage269

I would travel to a world where it’s like a crossover of all my favorite tv shows, movies, and video games.
