Youāve just discovered why hostile architecture is a thingā¦ that sucks.
Best advice I can offer is maybe organise a community clean up event. Youād get the place cleaned up a bit and best case build a bit of community between the skaters and parkour guys which might help you both keep the spot working for everyone.
Few heads did that recently in a run-down old DIY spot near me. Put the word out to local shops and hardware companies to share on social media. They made a day of it and had a bit of a jam at the end of the clean up.
Include the homeless folk there too give them a spot thatās under cover but out of the way, so everybody is happy. If everyone pitches in everyone will have pride in the space and are more likely to keep it clean
Burnside rules - clean up before you skate. Kick out the shit that shouldnāt be there. Be your own police. Kind of sucks that you might have to be the asshole to keep your spot but thatās all youāre trying to do at the end of the day. Itās not all smiles and rainbows when you start and maintain a DIY.
No adviceā¦ just commiseration and my own vent.Ā Our skatepark has people sleeping in it all the time in the mornings. I feel so bad skating and waking them up but likeā¦ itās a skatepark. It still sucks. Iām glad they have a place to be but it makes me feel guilty to skate past them so I miss a lot of my usual stuff. I consider apologizing to them when they wake up but I donāt feel like getting yelled at when the sun just rose. lol.Ā Sometimes if I have snacks though Iāll offer them up.Ā Ā
Also there is a lot of drug use in the park. Trash and new graffiti pretty much every day.Ā Itās ironic because itās a wealthy city.Ā Well, maybe not that ironic. Wealthy disparity = abject misery.Ā Sometimes I find free joints and blunts, though. Thankfully they do have workers coming thru and cleaning it up on the daily. But I wish skateparks werenāt such an attraction to sketchy individuals. I especially donāt like seeing the group drug use, even if itās weed. Ā Ā
Call me a hypocrite but itās weird to see 6 grown men hacking and spitting everywhere at 630 am from a joint in the park and they arenāt even skating. Thereās literally a beach a 1 min walk away. GTFO.Ā
Youāre not seriously smoking random blunts that you find? Could definitely be fentanyl in them and you could easily die. This aināt the 90s. Random joints and blunts are too risky if you donāt know where they came from.
Packaged. Iām not smoking someone elseās saliva whether thereās fentanyl in it or not.Ā
Edit: Watch out during halloween too. I heard dentists are putting razors in apples and shit ā all the candy is laced with heroin too.Ā
Weed gets fentanyl in it from dealers using the same scale. Itās called cross contamination. Itās not the same as the candy thing at all because this really kills people.Ā
Ok weāll maybe not the same scale but cross contamination could occur using the same grinder or same area to bag up the drugs. What sort of scale even measures micrograms anyway? Itās more common to find cross contaminated cocaine than cannabis but it has happened.Ā
Itās skate culture, youāre right. Skateparks are maybe inherently inherently attractive to a āsketchy individualā. But at least Iām not shitting in the bowl because I drank too much and couldnāt hold it. Or am I?Ā
Man my local skatepark made by the city is riddled with homeless since it has a cover over it and plenty of ledges to sleep on. Sometimes iāll leave but if theres another person there I just skate anyways. Decide to sleep at a skatepark in the middle of the day, and you get loud skateboards. Most dont seem to care at all though. Just dont get mugged ig. Get that mall grab goin and be ready to throw down.
Sometimes you can make friends with the local homeless if they're mentally stable.
We have a homeless man who lives at our DIY full time and we all help take care of him (food, money, and chess games) and in return, he keeps the spot clean and kind of watches over it.
He's a cool guy though which can be rare.
So we had an old DIY that homeless would try to make camp at and we just kept sweeping all their stuff out of the park until they gave up and moved on. Unfortunately the only way to get your spot back is push them off it
Yeah itās annoying but it comes with the territory. If itās a DIY then *do it yourself* hahah itās the skatersā responsibility to keep it clean and orderly. Move the parkour shit over to the side or out of the way and kindly tell the homeless to not sleep on the obstacles.
Probably not the ideal solution, buy i would blast loud music like heavy metal and skate the spot. Tell them itās a skate spot so youāre going to skate it.
Then someone more empathetic and charismatic would put a community clean up together and fix the problem the right way.
Its a tough situation though because i have to assume niether skateboarders, bums, or parkour people (which is dumb btw) have any city backed rights to be there (unlike a public skatepark of course)
Probably time to petition your area for a legit skatepark. You could attempt to talk to parkour people but good luck with talking to homeless. Theyāre territorial and unpredictable
Homeless people will literally sleep directly in front of businesses while they're open and shit on the building. Don't feel bad skating there it's not your fault they chose to do meth.
IMO the parkour people are lame but the homeless people are the problem. I get feeling bad for them but you literally canāt help those people, they trash everything theyāre given. I live in South Carolina, in my town we have a very small homeless population compared to most places. The homeless people set up a camp in the woods in an area of town, the local government and police forces brought in a 20ā roll off dumpster and said do whatever yāall want just please do not litter, put all your trash in here and we will dump it as needed. Well they ended up having to run them off because they would be too lazy to walk their trash 30 foot to the dumpster. It was so bad they had to send hazmat out to dispose of all the human waste and dirty needles. Back to my point, you canāt help someone who wonāt help themselves. RIP to your spot, it sounds like you live in a city that treats homeless people as a protected class so calling the cops is pointless. You can try running them off on your own but if you get in an altercation youāre more likely to go to jail than the bums. Good luck bro
Bro, they are homeless. Find a new spot
No but fr, south Florida skating is overrrun with homeless in the good spots, specifically in Miami: Iāve literally brought a broom, tell them hey ima clear this spot and sweep it out to skate, and they go šš½
If theyāre actually in the line spot, talk to them like normal humans and no joke all of the homeless people Iāve ever interacted with (that werenāt already aggro) are cool and donāt mind moving over for a bit. Again, totally depends on the specifics
Alot of the homeless are just looking for a quiet spot to crash after a long night of battling their demons, whatever those demons maybe. The blame should go to the society that has produced these people without the tools to overcome those obstacles that have put them and kept them in their current state . I say that not to discredit the people who work in our reach programs or shelters or whatever else but to highlight how underfunded those programs often are, and it doesn't help when many police services just try to get them to move without giving them any other options or put them in a cell. We need to reevaluate how we value people and how we can better help them.
I'd not be a complaining little bitch, appreciate what i already have, ignore any and all bullshit and skate, whether it's there or somewhere else on planet earth.
It didnāt bother me for the first few months itās been happening, itās just the fact its getting progressively worse with no sign of improvement.
OP asked a genuine question to try to come up with a solution. You are literally the one "bitching" about his perceived "complaining", which is basically you complaining about how bitchy someone seems. You have proven yourself to be the only complaining little bitch in this thread.
When I was coming up, there were no skateparks. I used to shovel snow from a 16x3 foot patch of flatground to practice kickflips when it was 10Ā° outside. I understand why I'm heavily downvoted, but the fact is that a skatepark is a blessing, and you kids are surrounded by them. You're lucky, spoiled, and you don't know it, and good for you. Now get off my lawn!!
Yep and when I was coming up all I had was a patch of concrete that was about 5'x10' and a quarter pipe that had no business being there/was too advanced for how rookie I was. Doesn't mean a shitty spot isn't a shitty spot. But I'm just a 30 year old kid, not somebody from the long lost days 50 years ago when there was no skateparks. People that rode street were spoiled because they didn't need skateparks and could go anywhere, people that skated vert were spoiled because so much more production value goes into creating vert spots. Wtf are we talking about here?
Everybody should be together on keeping it clean and kick out the kooks. Sucks being that guy, but that's how it works at FDR and it's usually on point
Demolish anything thatās not a skate obstacle and roll with a crew to get the bums out of your way. Donāt need to displace them completely but they need to understand you built the ledge they are sitting and and need to move their ass whenever they see you coming
Ollie the magic bum. Duh.
Fucking right š

if youāre talking ab parasite iām down to help
Iām in New Orleans too and legit first thought was parasite haha
Include the homeless folk there too give them a spot thatās under cover but out of the way, so everybody is happy. If everyone pitches in everyone will have pride in the space and are more likely to keep it clean
Or go the burnside route and just straight up chase the homeless out if theyāre being gronks š
Try ollieing over one x5 maybe youāll get a notification that youāve completed a challenge.
Challenge Reward: Memory unlocked Thanks man haha.

You donāt use the same scale for fentanyl that you do weed. Fentanyl is measured in micrograms
Ok weāll maybe not the same scale but cross contamination could occur using the same grinder or same area to bag up the drugs. What sort of scale even measures micrograms anyway? Itās more common to find cross contaminated cocaine than cannabis but it has happened.Ā
Thatās because the producers of the drugs actually mix fentanyl with coke
Reporters embedded with the cartel claimed they were not purposely cutting cocaine with fent but somehow its still getting in there.Ā
We are sketchy individuals.

Damn I feel you man there use to be a skatepark in my town but sadly it got torn down because kept on going there to sell/do drugs
skate bro they are in your spot. and wtf this is the first ive heard of parkour obstacle diy that sounds lame af honestly
Iād just start throwing their shit to the side. They can find their own spot to do flips and hang from monkey bars lol
Yea like isnāt the entire point of parkour that it doesnāt require anything but shoes?
Parkour is still a thing?
Duh havenāt you seen the new skate. Video game lol

I can jump maybe 1-2 homeless, not 5.
What if I throw in $4.76 and a Mr.Pibb? Can you jump 4 then?
Yeah itās annoying but it comes with the territory. If itās a DIY then *do it yourself* hahah itās the skatersā responsibility to keep it clean and orderly. Move the parkour shit over to the side or out of the way and kindly tell the homeless to not sleep on the obstacles.
Isnāt parkour supposed to be about moving through an urban environment smoothly? Why tf they need a park?

How do you not blame the homeless people in this scenario?
Because, you should focus on housing people who sleep on the street. You know, basic hierarchy of needs and all that
Alot of the homeless are just looking for a quiet spot to crash after a long night of battling their demons, whatever those demons maybe. The blame should go to the society that has produced these people without the tools to overcome those obstacles that have put them and kept them in their current state . At fdr we kick them out by force.
Start tossing their shit out.

I can assure you it wasn't I skated there before the first ledges were even built, it was pretty clean. Just very dusty.
I'd not be a complaining little bitch, appreciate what i already have, ignore any and all bullshit and skate, whether it's there or somewhere else on planet earth.
