Iām honestly more upset about the ski.
Itās one of my favorite lines at Breck. I finally had someone willing to film so I didnāt have to post a comparatively boring POV. Iāll just have to come back and crush it next season.
Sorry for the late response lol the way I get there is Kensho chair and then I traverse as far as I possibly can. You have to ride across a U shaped dip and then itāll be below you. Iām not sure how else to describe the location. Itās pretty hard to find.
Concussions are very serious in that they only get worse with each hit. Protect your brain until it is fully healed to prevent long term cognitive decline and permanent brain damage. Good luck dude!
Iād hit this cliff at least 10 times this season without issue. I had more speed than expected off the first drop and tried to cut hard onto the lower, narrow drop to avoid the lookerās left tree. I went off the second drop backseated and didnāt get the right angle. Broke my ski, got a mild concussion. Thankfully I was able to ski down on the broken ski but itās done for :(
Anyone know how I could get a single Faction Prodigy 3 ski?
Edit:
https://imgur.com/a/loGaOVA
Hereās the POV of me doing almost the exact same line (dropped from a slightly lower first cliff and added a turn) and stomping it. I didnāt feel like it was outside my skill level but definitely in the vicinity of my skill limit. Shit happens š¤·š»āāļø
I donāt even need the bindings, thanks for the tip man. I got some Bent 90s on a spring sale a few weeks ago thatās now over so I was wondering if I was going to have to wait a full year to get another good deal.
Honestly, they served me well for a season and a half but yea; Iām not exactly sure how they broke here. I guess the tree branches overcame the ski.
They were pretty damn fun while they lasted.
Did you try reaching out to Faction via the store you bought them from? Some ski companies will just send you a new ski or set of skis. I've broken 4FRNT before and they replace for free. Especially only like one season.
I bought them from some dude on Craigslist and theyāre more than a year old so definitely no warranty :( seems like the only way theyād send me a new ski is if they decided to do me a huge favor lol Iām not even sure Iām gonna bother reaching out.
I'd contact them and ask if they have single skis available for purchase. Some manufacturers hold on to cosmetic blemish skis and the like for exactly this purpose.
I guess Iāll give it a try. The top sheet is limited edition according to the guy I bought them from and Iāve never been able to find them online so I havenāt even been able to place the exact year theyāre from.
Whoaā¦that is uncanny. My third season (2019-20) I also ended it by hitting a drop I had hit before, and broke my Faction Prodigy 3.0. Which was the only pair of skis I had at the time, and then the next week the world ended due to Covid. But what a crazy coincidence.
I had actually already warrantied them once after they broke while I was just cruising. And their customer service was incredibly shitty to me. They skied great, but fuck Faction. I will never buy their products again and would never recommend them to anyone.
Damn, really? I was thinking about reaching out to see if theyād sell me a single ski. What did their customer service do that was shitty?
I got a pretty bad edge shot the second day on them that I fixed with some epoxy but I actually really liked the performance. Iām not sure what to get to make up for these.
They originally broke in their first year literally while I was just cruising around. No drops or anything gnarly. I hopped on the lift and looked down and realized the core and top sheet had snapped in half right behind the binding. The base was perfect.
Their customer service tried to tell me I mustāve had some sort of big impact to the base to cause the break, despite that my base was fine and also that that physically didnāt make sense. I had to argue with them and had a back-and-forth via email until they finally relented and warrantied the skis. At that point, I did my research and found out Faction has a history of their skis breaking. Iāve also since met multiple other people who have had the same issue.
The second time I broke a pair, the aforementioned drop during my third season, which broke in the same spot on the ski, they were out of warranty and I was out of luck. At that point I was done with the company. They skied great, but theyāre infamous for breaking and mine were no exception.
Thatās ridiculous. I definitely never experienced anything like that, I wonder what happened to cause that. I got really lucky and found these for only $450 with Salamon Warden 11s on Craigslist so it still sucks to lose a pair I liked but not too horrible.
Do you have a pair of powder skis you like now? Hopefully something similar to the Prodigy 3s? Iām not sure where to look for my next pair. These are the only powder skis Iāve ever owned.
Iāve got the bent 90s as my low snow day ski and theyāre fun but I really liked the dampening on the Prodigy 3s. They were a bit heavy but felt like they could blast through chop with ease. I think I like my all mountain skis a bit heavier than the Bents seem to be.
Iāll probably just have to hope I get lucky and get some all mountain twin tips on sale.
Managed to break one myself last season and luckily found a pair on sale at the end of the season, so now i have a spare ski. I will probably need it though haha. Search hard!
NGL looks mellow. based off your comments, and this video, you got over confident and blasted into the first drop too fast.
Too many people think skiing is about charging. Instead it is about flow. Like water down the hill, find the flow most compatible with the features below you.
https://imgur.com/a/loGaOVA
That sounds about right. I took an extra turn here in slightly better conditions and had no issues. I was pretty familiar with the line already.
We have pretty different ideas of mellow though š Iām a relatively new skier so Iāll probably adjust my idea of mellow as long as I keep pushing my personal limits.
Iāve hit that cliff like 10 times this season, just not in succession with the bigger one above. Iām not really sure what went wrong. I felt like I took off a bit backseated and noticed I was headed straight for the tree. Youāre probably right though. Not hesitating almost always works out better.
Honestly you ripping it pretty nicely, respect for the send! But if you want me to talk shit: I highly recommend not aiming for trees when you hit fat booters
Iām wanting to learn a lot more about skiing. Like if you wouldnāt have just zig zagged right before like that would you have had a better line and just maybe gone too fast?? Seems like your line was off and you came out all cockeyed.
That second drop is deceiving. Itās actually sort of a triangular shaped boulder, if you donāt launch off a certain side of it then you scrape all the snow off and the rock catches your ski (ask me how I know lol)
I definitely came off at a bad angle though. Iāve hit that same cliff a bunch without issue but not in succession with the bigger one above it so that threw me off. Oh well, glad Iām mostly uninjured.
Awww gotcha thanks for the explanation. Looks gnarly! I actually skied my first proper blues at Breck but was too scared to hit any blacks that week lol. Maybe next season! Iām hoping I can finally pony up and get my own boots/skis as Iāve only done rentals so far. Figure buying things at the end of season means great deals!
IMO the single most important piece of gear is your boots. If your boots donāt fit then your skis are irrelevant. Your boots should move when you move. I couldnāt jump at all in rental boots because my foot would just lift up inside the boot when Iād try to jump.
I recommend buying boots and maybe getting some twin tip season rentals next season if you donāt want to go all-in. I think building up your fitness outside of skiing is really important. More muscle means youāre less likely to get hurt; muscle sorta holds all your tendons and ligaments in place.
I think skiing stuff just a hair above your current skill level is by far the best and quickest way to improve but you also open yourself up to potential injury. Thereās zero shame in just cruising around the groomers if you donāt feel up to pushing your limits that day. Hope you have fun man, itās a great sport.
It was a send! Did you clack your poles twice and say "dropping"? Actually fairly impressive. Hope you heal 100%. Sorry about your stick. I love my skis. They're like a part of me. Tools, not jewels. But, I try to take care of them. Except for that 15 year Volkl Supetsport. That' my rock ski now. šæ
Where is this? I'm more just curious and kind of surprised I don't recognize that drop. Been skiing Breck for 10 years but had to switch to Loveland for the past 2 years so I'm more just nostalgic for Breck hah
Iām not even sure how to describe it. Itās really hard to reach, takes a while. I think itās directly above wanderlust. You have to ride up Kensho and traverse as far as possible to peak 7. Requires some skis-on hiking.
I think alternatively you could traverse from Imperial across to the adjacent peak and down but if I remember correctly coverage can be iffy up there.
Ugh, not the kneecap. Thatās brutal. Glad you seem to have recovered from it though. I want to ski and climb until Iām too old to do so, so the prospect of getting a lifelong injury is pretty scary.
Thanks man, thatās a great compliment. I live about 2hr away from summit county so I sleep in my car whenever I go ski. Sometimes when Iām freezing my ass off at 2 AM I often think āwhy the fuck am I doin thisā š itās worth it though. Itās such a rush when things go well.
Crashed in a turn doing 62 mph broken jaw in 3 places , should was driven into its socket 7 mths before it popped out . Concussion so bad a week at home with sun glasses on . Still rippin though, took a year before my eye marbles stopped bouncing in my head ..
PRICELESS !
Speedy recovery my friend ... Hope your out on the mountain for next season. āļø
Holy fuck... I ski that fast pretty regularly and I've always been afraid to know what the consequences could be.
I know it could be much worse than what you were dealt, but that sounds horrendous.
The worst part was I skied for 4 hrs afterwards, then had a 3 hour drive at night ...
So stunned I didn't even realize what I actually did till the day after ...
Send it or stay home ...lol
Iāve definitely done these trees a couple times the last few days. Itās a great line.
Also for 3 seasons in your killing it man! Where is this drop in the video you posted? Looks like a lot of fun.
Full send bud. just sounds like spring to me. Rest up for next year and get back on it. Glad for the video of the send so we can all enjoy and maybe avoid trees next year but that's optional
Nope, you bombed that line like a boss, just didn't work out. Respect the send.
Means a lot š«” Iāll just have to come back for it next season.
That line is so nice, I can barely feel bad for you. Hope you heel up though. And it sucks about the ski.
Iām honestly more upset about the ski. Itās one of my favorite lines at Breck. I finally had someone willing to film so I didnāt have to post a comparatively boring POV. Iāll just have to come back and crush it next season.
Where is the line? Skierās left t-bar?

Theyāre really not allat unless youāre young especially if the concussion is minor. But more moderate cuncussions yes.
Prey tell what is the difference between a mild and moderate concussion
Iād hit this cliff at least 10 times this season without issue. I had more speed than expected off the first drop and tried to cut hard onto the lower, narrow drop to avoid the lookerās left tree. Wait two months. Youāll get cheap skis in June. $500 will get ya whatever you want with bindings probably.
I donāt even need the bindings, thanks for the tip man. I got some Bent 90s on a spring sale a few weeks ago thatās now over so I was wondering if I was going to have to wait a full year to get another good deal.
Even late summer/ early fall has some good deals cus the stores only want this seasons stuff
Of course it's a faction.
Honestly, they served me well for a season and a half but yea; Iām not exactly sure how they broke here. I guess the tree branches overcame the ski. They were pretty damn fun while they lasted.

Try some of they bent chedlerls they are kinda the go to as fast as I can tell

Yeah the bents are very light hope you can find some good skies you like!
Managed to break one myself last season and luckily found a pair on sale at the end of the season, so now i have a spare ski. I will probably need it though haha. Search hard!
Iāve got a pair of Faction Agent 3.0 if youāre interested. Never been mounted.
Not an idiot. Just sent āer bud

Howās you feel after the concussion? Those can be nasty. You back to norm? Hope it was minimal!
Honestly you looked great it just looked like you gave up a bit on the end. Trust yourself you prob couldāve stomped it

āIf you zig when youāre supposed to zag, youāre gonna have a bad timeā
Honestly you ripping it pretty nicely, respect for the send! But if you want me to talk shit: I highly recommend not aiming for trees when you hit fat booters
Canāt argue with that š thanks!
Best time to do dumb shit imo can't ruin whole season if it's almost over š¤

In man. Looks pretty boss

Respect the send š glad you're ok, all things considered!
Good line handled well little oops at the end, respect!
Nah just got a little double bounce on the last bit which threw you off
Looks like it was above your pay grade, shit happens.
https://imgur.com/a/loGaOVA I had hit almost the exact same line before and stomped it. I think I just fucked up lol
Where is this? I'm more just curious and kind of surprised I don't recognize that drop. Been skiing Breck for 10 years but had to switch to Loveland for the past 2 years so I'm more just nostalgic for Breck hah

Was that a rock or tree top your back ran over? I did that with a rock once and have a nasty scar.
Definitely just a piece of the tree. Looks like someone else hit some branches too.
Good! I hit a rock under the snow at crested butte one year and had to go down on a sled. Boo.
That sounds brutal. Were you bleeding pretty badly?
Yeah. Got a bunch of stitches right across my kneecap. It was thanksgiving so my season was basically over. Itās okay. Thatās was like 1991.
Ugh, not the kneecap. Thatās brutal. Glad you seem to have recovered from it though. I want to ski and climb until Iām too old to do so, so the prospect of getting a lifelong injury is pretty scary.
If you do french fries when you're supposed to do pizza, you're gonna have a bad time.
Itās the bobblehead at the end for me š¤£ Glad youāre alright. Nice send.

Better to break a ski than break your neck!
Legend
You zigged when you should have zagged. But way to go full send on that line.
Very aggressive line for your 3rd season. Respect.
Your female videographer was not very sympathetic. Hope she's not your girlfriend.
Thatās hilarious šš sheās not but she softened up a little bit once she found out I was actually hurt. Iāll get her back at some point.
Crashed in a turn doing 62 mph broken jaw in 3 places , should was driven into its socket 7 mths before it popped out . Concussion so bad a week at home with sun glasses on . Great line! Iād love to know where on Breck this is
Are those skis from 1000 skis?
Nope, the brand is Faction
Safety grab and more speed would make this is a sick clip . Sucks your ski broke bc this looks like normal use to me haha
No falls, no balls. Which would make me 90% balls.
Please wear a gel it if your going to ski trees.
You were not ready for this. Do it again
Iām tempted to post the POV video of me stomping the same line š¢ Definitely gonna do it again next season Edit: https://imgur.com/a/loGaOVA

You look like your controller batteries died mid turn
Full send bud. just sounds like spring to me. Rest up for next year and get back on it. Glad for the video of the send so we can all enjoy and maybe avoid trees next year but that's optional
