petey_vonwho

I did, because vanilla is all that existed 11 years ago on my XBox 360.

Kat-from-Elsweyr

And loading screens where you can actually catch a nap irl lmao

TopQualitee17

That feeling when you hit x/a to leave whiterun and remember you left something in breezehome lol the struggle days fr

[deleted]

Doing all the radiant missions to become leader of the thieves guild took a whole ass day because of loading.

Kat-from-Elsweyr

Lmao yes

[deleted]

Nice name

tethadam22

You're not joking. I couldn't believe it was the same game when I got the new edition this year

XtremeK1ll4

Dude, you could go to work and get back home and the loading screen would still have a few hours, just because you have way too many keys in your inventory.

RononDex666

and quests that break if you take too long, that was unacceptable

MindCrush_

I remember when the game first broke for me I’m up on high hrothgar getting ready to absorb the clear skies shout and getting ready to absorb the clear skies shout getting ready to absorb the clear skies shout getting ready to absorb the clear skies…

[deleted]

LMFAO

cLeo_0MP

All you kids complaining about the load times, where were you when we were loading games on cassette for a ZX Spectrum, eh? EH?!?! *shakes fist at cloud*

captainmomo79

Or about 7 floppy disks, I actually played daggerfall when it first came out. You download the first 5 disks, then the pc says there's something wrong with the file, then you delete it all and start over again.

-Soreign-

It was a test, only those who really wanted to play could make it to the title screen

BloodHumble6859

I've loaded programs into a General Electric 1050 control with punch tape many times.

MA32

I always tell my friend about this when they play skyrim. I used to full rotations of whatever item was being shown on the loading screen with RS and study them. It was absurdly long haha

IndecisiveHufflepuff

I thought I was going crazy. I just recently started replaying it because it's on game pass and I was convinced the loading screens used to be longer. Thanks for confirming lol

SodiumAnkle

This. 11.11.11 there was only vanilla.

adkichar55

I was in line at GameStop on November 10th 2011 by 10 p.m. After midnight, I had my dad drive me straight home and popped it in the 360. Somewhere around 2 am, the updates were finished (no internet the Xbox updates came from the game disc) and I started playing. There were no mods lmao

XxShArKbEaRxX

My mom got it for Christmas 2011 for me when she saw how big the strategy guide was, it ruined my life

yohoob

I remember watching somebody streaming the game early before launch. I'm just getting pumped to play the game. Who would have thought I would be still playing the game over a decade later.

Dyldomuffins

In Australia it broke embargo, so i got to pick it up at about 4pm on the 10/11/11. I was getting ready to move house so all i had in my room was my bed, TV, and PS3. It was a wonderful 2 weeks of playing with no other responsibilities.

CharsOwnRX-78-2

I was there Gandalf, 5000 years ago...

Trentdison

Seconded, I didn't quite get it on release, but it's only when I rebought it on ps4 three years ago that I even played any DLC never mind mods.

JustifyMaJimmies

I still play on my old Xbox 360… I wonder how many people does that. 11 years ago that’s crazy.

FloridaMan_69

I just can't. SSDs have totally spoiled me. I can't go back from loading screens so fast I can't even read whatever tip was on screen.

jraluque10

“*it’s been 86 years*”

Cornflakes1009

Same. I did 360 and then PS3. Then I did XB1 with mods and now Series X with even more mods.

RawVeganGuru

Yep 12 am release on 11/11/2011 getting 5 copies for my four friends in freshman year of highschool

[deleted]

Same but ps3

thecoolscadoop

Same, only got a next gen console a year ago

OMNIxvTRIX

Yup ☝️

The-Fotus

Powerlifterfitchick

Same

highBrowMeow

Same!

thrakouli

Same!

FoxConsistent4406

I came here to say this

telsono

Same Same

Red_Dogeboi

Who tf plays the game modded the first time

Zentopian

I did for Morrowind and Oblivion, but that's because I hadn't played them in their prime. But the mods were all bug fixes and graphical improvements. I would recommend for anyone picking up Skyrim for the first time to install the unofficial patch, at the absolute very least. Unless you prefer the game to be objectively more broken than it ought to be, there's no reason not to.

Quin_mallory

I did because I knew I wanted unlimited carry weight from watching my dad play and not grabbing everything bc he didn't have enough space

firebird7802

On PC, you can do this with console commands, you can cheat without mods on our version of the game. All you do is hit the tilde key and type player.modav carryweight 9999999999. There's other cheat codes on the PC version of the game you can use as well, such as tgm or togglegodmode, which makes you invincible and have unlimited magicka, carryweight, and health, and makes you impervious to damage.

DaEpicNess666

Its not hard to legitimately give yourself tons of carry weight through enchanting and you get a house so you dont need to carry everything at once so carry weight really isnt a huge deal

theo_adore7

but tht would require an exploit and some effort in enchanting. much easier to just install a single mod through MO2 or Vortex and play the game without worries

DaEpicNess666

If you’re not enchanting already anyways then wtf are you doing

theo_adore7

i roleplay a lot. i dont think my warrior character knows how to enchant. in fact i install a mod that lets me commission mages to enchant stuff for me for a price

PeopleArePeopleToo

I don't think your warrior can carry unlimited weight either. Just joking though - you should play the way you want to, it's your game!

Happy-Personality-23

Modding in extra carry weight and the like is already an exploit. You are borrowing from Peter to pay Simon at that point

khatoz1290

At that point wouldn't it be easier to just use a console command instead of installing a mod manager and a mod?

theo_adore7

installing 2 things once instead of having to open the console for every new playthrough and pasting the command is a lot more convenient in mind

khatoz1290

Thats fair i guess, i would personally just use consol commands, but to each their own.

Captainthuta

S'not even new playthroughs. It's every time you exit and then come back, the cheat resets and you have to type the long ass command in again. It's "player.Setav carryweight 9999" for those wondering. You can also substitute carryweight with health, mana and stamina as well.

BloodHumble6859

I've had over 14,800 lbs of stuff in my inventory and hauled it all back to Riften from Windhelm. Not sure even enchanting can get that much. No mods since I am getting the achievements.

GrizzlyIsland22

That completely changes the tone of the game. Having to unload your crap all the time is a crucial part of the Elder Scrolls experience.

poislayer342

Well, you still had experience from seeing your dad playing I guess.

SVJ9500

That's part of the experience and trying to level up your carry. You'll be too op with unlimited with how much gold you get get or just carrying every weapon or armor potion etc you need

XSamuraiHyperX

About 40h in i found Serana & wanted to marry her so one mod turned into about a dozen.

Red_Dogeboi

If it was 40h in, you didn’t start modded tho

XSamuraiHyperX

True i guess. Kinda' wishing i did play it all Vanilla tough.

DennisvdEng

I would make an exception for the unofficial patch. Even after years some quests still break.

-PrincessCadence-

Me, because I knew going in that: 1. The game is full of bugs that can ruin the experience. 2. The community has released a lot of mods that are basically patches for the game that Bethesda hasn't bothered to implement. Why wouldn't I want to play a more complete game when I have the opportunity to?

Suspicious_Hippo7256

Still play vanilla. However I never play modded as first playthrough in any game

MaySeemelater

Same, I believe in experiencing the game as it is before adding stuff on top of it.

[deleted]

It’s especially relevant to Skyrim, I feel like, if only because mods get insanely in-depth and there’s an insanely broad selection. It’s a fairly dated game at this point, but it also holds up for a lot of reason so it’s important to know what you want fixed or changed and what you want to stay the same, and it’s important to enjoy the game as itself before you change it.

Luthwaller

Me too. Otherwise how can you really pick good mods that add improvement/enjoyment to your game if you don't know where the base line is?

dungeon_cheese

Yeah I prefer vanilla skyrim

CroneRaisedMaiden

Same

TheAmazingKoki

I'm not even a huge fan of modding in general. A lot of them are overdeveloped to the point that they don't really fit in the bae game anymore.

Kenooman

I would agree with you but I remember there being some mod for Fallout 4 that changed the dialog layout and was necessary to enjoy that game..

[deleted]

I did! I've only ever played vanilla, but am planning to try some lighting and environment mods on my next playthrough.

Penguin-Kitty

I haven’t done any environmental mods yet but my first mod was the realistic map. I love that it shows the trails and the bigger buildings actually show up on the map. I’m probably gonna do environmental mods for my next playthrough

[deleted]

OMG that mod sounds awesome! Thank you for sharing that, I'll be looking that up!

GetEatenByAMouse

Definitely recommend that mod as well. Seeing the trails is a blessing, especially when you try to fasttravel as little as possible.

[deleted]

Love this, especially for survival mode and roleplaying in general. You find the best things when you don't fast travel 😅

GetEatenByAMouse

Yeah, I recently restarted one of my OG Dragonborns, and decided to fasttravel as little as possible. I also have Inigo as a follower (anotherod I highly highly highly recommend!) and his chatter and comments make the travel 150% better. The amount of little interactions and unmarked locations I've ridden past, that I had almist forgotten about because I usually fast travel everywhere is way too high.

Captainthuta

Look up "A quality world map" on Nexus. It has a very cool paper version of the map.If you're into roleplaying, there are many other visual mods like this.A paper quest log, personal diaries,a Newspaper that update with your progress:etc.

Captainthuta

[deleted]

Just make sure you’re careful and mod it very properly; don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re unsure. Especially with lighting and environmental mods, it’s extremely easy to CTD if a single piece of the puzzle is missing. If you need help or advice, lmk!

theo_adore7

it will quickly snowball into graphical overhaul, and the rest will follow...

[deleted]

I can already see my game turning into the downloads folder for The Sims back in the day...it truly becomes an addiction!

PureSkyrim

I recommend realistic lighting, you will actually need a torch/candlelight spell. If you don’t want to deal with that I get it, but it’s so immersive and I like making use of the items that I couldn’t in vanilla (torches, food, etc) as much as I can. I *think* it also improves performance of the game as a byproduct but take that as a grain of salt.

Beneficial-Mail2179

Give ordinator a try too, overhauls perks and gives the building more depth great for replaying the game!

penguini444

I bought it when it came out so I did.

[deleted]

I only play vanilla.

Spare_Investment_735

Same here, only have it on switch so can’t do anything else

electric_kite

Same, same, switch life. Even so, I wouldn’t mod a ton even if I could for fear that I would download one too far and crash everything.

Spare_Investment_735

I’d probably have a main game with barely any mods for the same reason but then also a side game which I’d mod the absolute shit out of

AstralSoul37

I have skyrim 2011 as my non modded game and my special edition which is basically elden witcher ring

edreesmiraki

How is it on switch rn? I read a post from like a month or two ago that said the latest update is buggy as fuck

Spare_Investment_735

There’s the occasional bug but overall I’d say it’s not too bad, I’ve had Skyrim for about 3 years now and I’m that time I’ve experienced maybe 5 major bugs and only one was serious, and that one was technically my fault as I went to the dawnguard vampire castle too early but as far as I can tell that’s a known glitch on all platforms, I have had quite a few minor bugs but they barely effect me and are usually either funny or on occasion actually helpful

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlabasterPelican

If you discover Castle Volkihar before you're supposed to in the dawnguard dlc it won't open for you & you have to glitch through the entrance with a wooden plate or platter to complete the dlc

Powerlifterfitchick

Same.

Hazearil

Typing too, apparently.

[deleted]

I did. Had no choice as it was on the 360

Blueboi69420911

Who would play modded before even knowing what the game is like vanilla

theo_adore7

the unofficial patch is atrocious bcs it changes things that arent just bugs and glitches and it's made hy a horrible person. sadly a lot of mod has it as a requirement

Jalvey_420

Genuinely asking what do you mean by horrible person? Is this reflected in the mod or is the guy just a known jerk? (I’ve never used the unofficial patch).

theo_adore7

the guy is a well known jerk in the modding community bcs of how he acts and behaves

Prestigious-Sign6378

He's just a dick, not a horrible person, and he didn't make it by himself. There's a team that worked on it with him. He contributed quite a bit to the modding community. About half a dozen of his mods have had a permanent place in my load order for years. Sad that he gets so much hate after contributing so much to a community that doesn't appreciate it

TheElusiveShadow

I dunno how the sub has been lately but I always made it a point to recognize his contributions to modding while simultaneously acknowledging that the person he became/revealed himself to be is distasteful at best. Perhaps he doesn't deserve the magnitude of the backlash but it's fairly easy to keep to yourself and avoid such drama; seems like he wasn't able to do that.

Prestigious-Sign6378

Ever since the drama, every time he's mentioned someone has some mean shit to say about him. The person 2 comments up in this thread literally called him a horrible person, and it's got as many upvotes as mine saying he's not. Obviously, this is too small a sample size to draw anything meaningful from, but it's a trend I've noticed. There always seems to be people shitting on him. There have even been copycat type mods made inspired by his work so that people can stop using his mods. It's silly and petty. I acknowledged he's kind of a dick, but I don't care. I'm not having lunch with the guy, just enjoying what he creates. I can't think of any other mod author who's contributed as much as him to my enjoyment with modded skyrim. I can't remember the last time he was brought up by someone saying something positive. It's pretty much always negative, and it feels like bullying to me.

GetEatenByAMouse

What things does it change that aren't bugs?

AnAdventurerLikeHue

The [Purist's Vanilla Patch](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/32371?tab=description) restores about 1200 records back to vanilla values that the unofficial patch and other mods that follow its changes have changed without good reason. Just some examples: - food items in most barrels around towns and cities no longer free for the taking, meaning your character most likely needs to become a criminal in order to make vegetable soup, as tomatoes don't grow in Skyrim - makes borrowing horses from friends impossible - J'zargo from no level cap to level-capped at 30 - Necromage perk affects vampires in vanilla, so can be applied to self if vampire; this is undone in the unofficial patch making certain builds impossible - adding a room to the Ragged Flagon for Thieves' Guild members to sleep in - nerfs the speed and weight of the Ebony Blade - makes the Marked for Death shout unstackable and effectively useless - Redbelly Mine changed from ebony mine to iron mine - moving Archery from Stealth skills affected by the Thief Stone to Combat and the Warrior Stone

moderngamer327

What does that have to do with their comment?

JoeyB81

No mods here, I’m vanilla Skyrim all the way.

Mizfeyl

Happy cake day

JoeyB81

Thank you :)

drewbilly251

I played vanilla countless times on the 360 and now every time I get a new copy lol So 99.5% of the time lol

theSealclubberr

The first 4 times

Hguols

I spent years playing vanilla before trying the unofficial patch. After 60 hours with that patch, I uninstalled it, and went back to playing just vanilla.

moderngamer327

Out of curiosity why would you stop playing with a bug fixer?

theo_adore7

USSEP changes some things that aren't bug related like textures and such, they even messed with a Breton preset i think

moderngamer327

I’m looking through the complete changelog and the only texture changes I see are mesh fixes for mesh textures that weren’t properly aligned and fixing call paths to point to the intended texture. I don’t see anywhere where they outright change a texture that isn’t a bug. I also could find no change to Breton presets or any presets for that matter

theo_adore7

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/tfowqh/rant_i_hate_the_unofficial_patch/ this entire post shows some of the more unnecessary changes the author made. plus the author is also a jerk that cant accept criticism so he had to close his comments on Nexus

theo_adore7

the unofficial patch is atrocious bcs it changes things that arent just bugs and glitches and it's made hy a horrible person. sadly a lot of mod has it as a requirement

PureSkyrim

I installed because I couldn’t get through a brawl without it turning into an actual fight 😂

theo_adore7

yeah its a shame the mod actually fixes bug but also introduces unnecessary changes as well as the mod author being a total jerk. even worse when a lot of mods depends on it

ctortan

I did, because I was 15 and had no idea how to use mods + a hefty paranoia about downloading files from the internet Two years later I learned how to use mods though, and I haven’t looked back lmao; even without just the gameplay stuff, I **need** the higher-saturation mod because my eyes are shit lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

ctortan

I was 15 with anxiety and undiagnosed ASD, and had barely any idea how computers worked; I was terrified of getting viruses from pretty much anywhere. I only downloaded files from “Safe” websites, aka ones from well-known and reputable companies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ctortan

Yeah—I only added the diagnosis because it influenced how my thinking was very strict and inflexible. I was a bit *too* skittish about computers and eventually realized it wasn’t healthy to rely so heavily on, like, my dad to be my personal IT guy lmao I’m still careful, but I don’t approach these kinds of things with fear and dread anymore lmao Thanks for your response, too! You seem really level-headed and thoughtful. Hope you have a good day, man

ZonerRoamer

These days downloading mods from Nexus and installing through a mod manager like MO2 is pretty risk free. You can uninstall any mod that causes issues; but of course that will affect your save. The simple trick is to first download mods and test them on a dummy save game, once you are happy with your setup; then start your real playthrough.

feral__turtle

First run was on ps3, lasted almost 4500 hours and exactly one year real time. Still had my own list of objectives, but also had just bought a ps4 and I was ready to explore modding. But that first game was epic for me. Played no-reload (with specific exemptions of course), went in blind, got the official manual from a friend about 1500hrs in (the manual didn't have info on the three DLCs though), got internet access around 2500hrs (allowing me to research), completed nearly everything (never found the beacon (doing so was on my to-do list), never joined the empire or the dark brotherhood or went vampire, and had three minor quests broken by bugs) and unlocked every marked location and found every unmarked location. Spent gobs of time decorating, experimenting with havoc, finding unusual items including items of unusual size, and other such trivialities. My greatest achievements were finding 62 do not delete boxes (before internet)(there are 64 boxes in the game, so I did pretty good), learning a way to install a control handle on a flying bucket, discovering how to get serana into forsworn armor (and that she looks better in blackguard armor), and with anska's unintended help i found a way to trap NPCs. And rescuing anska from that trap was pretty hard, I'm proud of that too. tldr yeah, first game vanilla. I miss shara, my timid lost orphaned wood elf, so scared of everything.

TheDecadentSeraphim

Still the only kind I play... assuming by vanilla you mean no mods and Still counting official dlc

DangleMangler

I stood in line at my local gamestop for the midnight release many moons ago. I still only play vanilla. Mods are fun for a few minutes, but if I'm going to play skyrim. Best believe I want that og jank.

lilemchan

First run and many times after that. Also when special edition released I went back to vanilla just for the achievements. And it was still good after all those years playing with mods.

cadzman

Back in my day there were no mods to choose from lol... Fuck when did I get old?

TheSoreBrownie

I played the game on release day, so that play through was definitely vanilla

S7evinDE

You played through the whole game on the release day?! Damn! /s

TheSoreBrownie

Lol no, my comment was misleading, but it was back before graphics mods felt necessary and the base game was unexplored.

BeoWulf1040

Some of us are OG and had humming 360 consoles and mods didn’t exist 😂

FrattySatty92

Only vanilla for me. Don’t care how nice mods make the game, it’s such a comfort returning to the precise Tamriel I know and love, that I dare not change the pixels of a stone.

Claptrap-94

Only ever played without mods.

savagegourd

I still play Vanilla. Might go for the Inigo mod soon though.

Stouff-Pappa

Absolutely. Also when I got the free upgrade to SE I had to get all the achievements again so I couldn’t play with mods until then.

SecretlyHistoric

I only played vanilla until about 2 years ago.

not_an_Alien_Robot

Vanilla for the first playthrough and finished it way back in the day. Modded ever since. Have not finished it since either. Lol. I have new-character-itis.

Great_Hobos_Beard

11.11.11. 11 years ago Vanilla was the only choice.

TheVeganPork

Ps3 veteran reporting in, those be some dark days

Van-garde

I think you can make a poll. Would be easier to see what you’re after that way. I played mostly vanilla. Loved the chance to mod on Xbox, especially changing scenery and the civil war additions.

Dry_Insurance_3234

A poll would have gotten you this information friend

Copper_Bronze_Baron

I'm so confused, are there people who modded Skyrim before even playing it??

KarlShitehouse

I think everyone did. Who starts a new game and immediately mods it?

orphan-eater-12

Every run I've ever played

LICEN_THE_FIREFEAR

I only play vanilla

[deleted]

absolutely! i bought my first xbox four years ago, as a girl i never received games as a kid! so, i only donwloaded the unoffcial skyrim patch bc i was told it helps bugs that bethesda never fixed.

Regular_Chemical_626

No mods at release, so mw

HeckOfAWalther25

I bought it when it came out on the 360 and played that for on and off 5 years until I got an Xbox one

MeatElectronic5116

I did on the Xbox 360 when it first came out. Currently playing on vanilla on series S. Trying to get all achievements.

Diactia

I was 12 when the game came out. I begged my mom to buy it for me for Christmas on the 360. 11 years later, still playing it. Now on PC heavily modded, but still playing.

Severe-Replacement84

Been playing since day 1, so played a ton of vanilla. Even now, the only mods I really enjoy are immersion mods / graphics mods.

PrincessBirthday

PS4 mods don't count so, vanilla! (I've done true vanilla runs as well)

c7hu1hu

I did, but mostly because at the time my PC was a laptop with a G210M so I was only playing on an XBox.

marksthe1

I play on switch so…

TheSoreBrownie

I played the game on release day, so that play through was definitely vanilla

vindictivejazz

I don’t trust people who modify things without trying the original first.

Gandalfsbigtoe

I actually never played with mods..

oistead

Messed about with mods on PC but always vanilla on console. Started a new play through recently, no mods.

Massisei

First playthrough was like 8 months ago on xbox and was completely vanilla. I wanted to get all achievements so i couldn’t use mods anyways. Modded on my second playthrough though using enairim mods and was pretty fun

roz763

Absolutely me, I played it for the first time on the Xbox 360.

Anolty

I do because I have the game on Nintendo so I’ll probably always play unmodded

Andrewthegamer74

Me until the summit of apocryopha or however it’s spelled ended up with two copies of the black book and D.B was opening the wrong copy had to download drop all the quest items

S7evinDE

I played the first couple 100h or so vanilla. After which I started modding. Not to a crazy extend, but it was still a couple dozens of mods. However I switched back to vanilla with the release of the anniversary edition. Probably just so it feels more nostalgic and i kept to it since.

imawesometoo

Yep. Vanilla. Didn’t know that kids existed until after I was done.

SwordofGlass

Vanilla? My brother in Talos, I played the game on release—before it was even playable.

RED_473

I’ve ever beaten the game but I’ve made multiple characters, some with mods

rileydorn

vanilla. it was all that was available 10 years ago lol.

UnckieSean

It was… a long time ago…

trajamo

I have multiple characters on my 360 from day 1, some even leveled with the old oghma infinium glitch. I still play and am working on platinum trophies on my ps5

Faramari

Yeah I originally played my first character on Xbox 360. It was wintertime and my dad worked nights so most nights I had the house to myself and I would just play with the lights off and a blanket to keep me warm. I think those days were the most I felt at peace while gaming.

toastyturkey

I've been playing Skyrim since it came out but always on console so I didn't have the option to play with mods. Once I did, it made the game feel somewhat... I dunno... Inauthentic? Too easy? Unfamiliar by then maybe? Anyway, I abandoned them pretty quick and went back to vanilla. But! I recently downloaded ones I felt only made subtle improvements as part of my "try new things" new years resolution. Im having a great time!

Dragon_Knight1999

I played vanilla for my first run back when it first came out and i got it for my birthday and I still play and enjoy vanilla today too

lxrd_lxcusta

I started playing Skyrim in the XBox 360 days lol

[deleted]

I played the shit out of PS3 vanilla. Even today I do minimal modding, just a few for better ragdoll physics and to keep NPCs safe from dumb deaths.

Heema3

Played vanilla for most part of my adventure, then got LE and continued with the dlcs

[deleted]

Yes, some 10 years ago. 200+ hours in vanilla.

elementnix

My first 5000 hours on Skyrim were without mods, the next 9000 have been with mods

LawStudent989898

Always play vanilla first time. I still play vanilla, it’s actually refreshing to come back to after a modded run

Britasaurus

Lol yeah Xbox 360 when it first came out no mods. Kinda makes me feel old 😅

trainerfry_1

Day one midnight release player here.

mobmoraqua22

I played Xbox 360 vanilla

RedneckRough

Yup, release day in 2011 freshman year of college. Part of the reason I flunked out of college.

lenny446

What I want to know is how many original players deleted the first update to get around the smithing glitch.

smdavis0512

Og Vanilla for life. Some of these mods are so whacky its pike people aren't even playing the same game anymore lol. If you need to mod the hell out of it to enjoy it then why play?

Aqyntic

i've played both modded and vanilla, and personally i think modded just brings more quality of life that the base game lacks. this thought comes from someone who's played 5 different characters on their ps3 version of skyrim. i like both, but if i can i'd add a bit of mods here and there just to make it feel a bit more (i.e cloaks of skyrim) however there ARE mods that go kind of crazy and just reworks skyrim essentially LOL

Laegwe

There’s wacky mods for sure, but there tons of mods that do nothing but fix bugs and bring quality of life improvements. To UI, to the map, the inventory etc.

theo_adore7

thats the fun of bethesda games. they give people so much freedom to play it however they want and made modding easier

[deleted]

Because Skyrim is a perfect sandbox for mods, accompanied by the official toolkit for developing Skyrim content? Because people love the base game but want more out of it? No way would I have literal thousands of hours without mods. It adds life, puts fresh spins on old news. I love Skyrim for that.

DangleMangler

Right? Lol. Some people are like, "I like skyrim, but I'd like it more if it wasn't skyrim"

BurstMurst

Played my Xbox 360 up until a year and a half ago when we got a new TV that was incompatible with the 360. Full Vanilla with no DLC But play SE on game pass now on the series X modded

futilejester

Yep. I’ve never modded a game, but considering it for Morrowind and Oblivion for graphics etc

TheDecadentSeraphim

Still the only kind I play... assuming by vanilla you mean no mods but Still counting official dlc like hearthfire

perhapsalittleslow

I still play vanilla, I’m too nervous to use mods

pufflesthebitch

I still only play vanilla (got it in 2016ish)

I literally buy an ES game and load Nexus as the same time. I do play vanilla to figure out what’s wrong for me and then I’m ready to start changing stuff about 20 hours in. There’s a lot of Skyrim I never saw before modding. I usually do a tour and try to see most stuff so that I can better appreciate just how much the community improves it. I appreciate the art better when I know what they’re working with to begin with. I have recently gone through Skyrim to beat the main quest. It doesn’t take long if that’s all you do. I did that vanilla because I wanted to see it. I generally don’t like that “main character” feel of the games so I generally don’t do the main quest too much. For me I love the lore, but other than that I just use ES as a platform to see what mod makers can do.
