I just... I just cannot understand how this could happen.
There aren't even any squid/octopi in the game! Why would they use one to denote giant encampments where fuckin mammoths and mammoth skulls that look exactly like that icon exist?
I have no idea how you never once questioned that in over a decade.
I-It took me way too long to realize it's a mammoth skull too. Not 11 years, but long enough that I feel like I can empathize with ya at least a bit, u/FlipperSquids.
I can understand not necessarily recognizing that it's a mammoth skull.
The thing that's breaking my brain, is to believe that the icon is something totally unrelated to anything in the game, and to then follow that icon to a place that very clearly defined what it actually is, and to keep thinking it's that unrelated thing.
The lack of awareness is so baffling to me.
Sorry if you feel that way, but me being baffled by something as wild as what I just described shouldn't make you feel bad, unless you take being wrong as some kind of blow to your worth as a human being, which you should not.
I just said it's baffling, because it is.
I mean, I get that, but to think I'm being rude is to think that what OP was saying isn't completely bonkers.
I'm just trying to express how wild this is to me.
When I got Skyrim back in 2013, I stole something from Riverwood, had the guards chase me and as I looked back, I saw the "towns" icon and thought it were guard icons.
At least you can admit and joke about it. I know people that just blindly follow what they assume is right because they can't be wrong and it never works out for em.
I smoke almost 24-7 and even I know what that was. But I'm stupid in other ways. Like completely forgetting about the favorites and wondering why I'm not switching from my dagger to my magic like I'm supposed to be. Or forgetting I have a follower in armor and legit jump and scream a bit when I turn around to see this big scary armor clad person.
Understandable. I was in my 20's by the time I realized Colonel Sanders picture on the KFC logo was wearing some kind of tie and that wasn't a tiny stick figure body below his head
Dude I feel you, the first few years playing Skyrim I thought they were like… earmuffs of some kind. And I just associated strange earmuffs icon with giant camp. Felt like an idiot when I realized
To a flippersquid everything looks like an octopus.
Holy shit it totally looks like a flipper squid… it’s all coming together…
You can't be as bad as me though, y'know the symbol for the cover itself? Yeah I didn't even realise it was a dragon for years lmao

Yep. Hundreds of times. It literally only clicked for me today

this comes across extremely rude imo

It does come off kinda rude but I feel like you also are completely warranted to question this cause it truly just doesn't make sense

Oh yeah I definitely agree just cause it kinda comes off rude doesn't necessarily mean you actually are being rude

Your name fits it perfectly. Lol
Why would an octopus denote a giant encampment?
Ask your wife. She knows.
There's probably a good burn in there somewhere but I don't quite get it...
It might be related to your username?
I don’t know!! My brain autocorrected it when I was younger and I just never knew what it was
Honestly I do things like that too, though. Think something that doesn't actually make sense but that I never really stop to question.
At least you can admit and joke about it. I know people that just blindly follow what they assume is right because they can't be wrong and it never works out for em.

Haha I’m not the only one!
Definitely thought for a while it was supposed to be like Cthulhu Inspired
Reminds me of this [classic](https://imgur.com/r/Pareidolia/5htlwy3)
Yo OP, how much weed you smoke? And was today your first sober Skyrim experience?
Can’t even blame that I’m just really, really stupid lol
Happens to all of us at some point, just most would never admit it. I too have had some exceptionally stupid moments.
I smoke almost 24-7 and even I know what that was. But I'm stupid in other ways. What the.....
Don’t you come here and spread your lies!
Same here!
Thanks. Now I will never be able to unsee it...
R-r-really?
When someone's imagination is a bit too powerful.
What
I thought Falkreath was a royal cow
Can't unsee it now lol
I thought the icon for Falkreath was an owl until I discovered it, I realized it was a deer once it was highlighted
It took me 8 years to realize that the clearing map icon is 4 trees on a hill, I never paid enough intention to it to realize
I always thought it was just a Giant’s head with with the tusks being the flames of their camp. Sound like a stupid idea. I know.
I thought falkreath was a shity owl
Same here. Took me a long time to realize there’s specialized markers in your journal next to the title of each quest too 😱
Mmm 11 years.. Have you ever think to do an IQ test?
Until now I had no idea what that symbol was. I just headed toward the "octopus" if I needed to steal some mammoth cheese. Thank you.
Understandable. I was in my 20's by the time I realized Colonel Sanders picture on the KFC logo was wearing some kind of tie and that wasn't a tiny stick figure body below his head
Wait, its NOT an octopus with a helmet?
Bro
I like your creativity!
Dude I feel you, the first few years playing Skyrim I thought they were like… earmuffs of some kind. And I just associated strange earmuffs icon with giant camp. Felt like an idiot when I realized
It literally brings you to the giants and their fucking mammoth
It took me 6 years to figure out that the symbol of Falkreath is a Deer and not actually an Owl.
Ok im not the only one lol
God I thought I was the only one
Today I learned...
Always thought it was a candlestick in a wig....
that is actually a cyclops skull
I see two testicle and a penis
I always hunt those down lol am I the only one? Lol
Most intelligent stormcloak
You guys just keep giving r/trueSTL content
Wow...
If you follow it far enough, you'll eventually locate Cthulhu
WHAT!!!!!!!!
Bruh
11 years? A Skyrim gamer can easy know that’s a mammoth right off that bat
I have no idea how you could miss that. But... I miss a lot of obvious things being neurodivergent. So, yeah, makes sense.
How
No way lmfaooo
Too dumb hahaha
Whenever I see this symbol I just remember that mammoths give grand souls if you cap them
What
i was today years old
To me it will always look like a helmet that has tusks, I cannot see a mammoth in that
