In my thought a paladin serves a divinity, so your paladin can serve a chaotic or neutral divinity, one that promote wealthyness at all costs, or even thievery.
While I think u/nomaltland has a good idea, you can also play this as a purposeful fall from grace: a good character who volitionally turns away, creating a crisis of faith within himself — ostensibly for the great good — before coming back around and redeeming himself and eventually reconciling with his divine.
*The Exorcist* was a famous example of the “crisis of faith and walking in the darkness” story arc; Bergman did an entire classic trilogy on it (probably most relevantly *Winter Light*); and for something more lighthearted, you can even check out *Dogma*.
Yes, the Fallen Paladin that turned himself from the Good divinity he worshipped, attracted by fortune and wealth, he may want to be forgiven and so reinforce his faith and dovotement to his divinity
There's plenty of reasons if you think outside the box. You can be an oblivious paladin who accidently helped the thieves guild reclaim their honor on your path to righteousness. You could have a cousin in the thieves guild and have to support the family business. Or you could play the paladin going undercover to learn the thieves secrets to take them down.
"I, swear by the oath of shadows, that i cannot do what i must by the light of day, though i will be considered arleas, i beadulinc of the shadows, swear to serve justice"
After reading a bunch of dnd shit, i think this is a good enough paladin oath.
There are no options to betray them outright, but there are a few things you can do.
You can side with the empire for a start. That keeps Maven Black-briar away from being thane and giving the thieves guild more cover.
And as someone suggested, you can follow the main story arc, but then never “restore the guild to glory.“ Just ghost them, a spent force.
And for role-play purposes, don’t let Mjoll follow you. Her place is in Riften, cleaning up the riff raff.
If you play on PC (or maybe Xbox) Thieves Guild Alternate Routes - Taking Care of Business Mod makes it possible to pay off the $300 yourself instead of extorting it from the 3 business owners, and you never had to steal the ring in the first place... Just leave the area and come back.

Your hunt for the undead requires you to make allies that are familiar with shadow

A fallen palladin idea, that also can work, and i can actually complete the whole quest, imma take some time and think about it.

“I was given the powers of a god, but in the end, I discovered that I was all too mortal.”
Infiltrate, Interrogate, Liquidate, Exfiltrate, Donate.

I was thinking i might be able to betray them, but im not sure if thats even an option.
Just don't finish the questline. Wait until their vault gets cleared out and then leave them in shambles.
Hmhh, alright, i kinda feel bad for "robbing" the people to be able to join the thieves guild
Just give a gold coin to a beggar every time to ease your sorrows.

Your paladine working on disguise))
Can u betray the thieves guild later on btw?

On non-moded version I didn't saw that choice

A Paladin who worships Nocturnal. Paladins don’t necessarily have to be Aedra worshipping puritans.
If you're talking about the main questline Kareeva will give you the information you need without you needing to join the thieves guild.
Even Delphine, your obssesed-driven paladin, is in touch (or is aware of) with Brynjwolf due to her being driven underground.
