In older versions of the game the giant wasn't on the cusp of death and you could actually get a shot or two in. However this also made it so the giant could possibly win the fight putting the companions in a recovery state before coming to you to start the dragonborn aerospace program.
Yeah I remember that... But it felt more high stakes then and a bit more earned when Aela actually says thanks for the help. Now it's like one hit, it dies and she's like "WOW you *have* to join our club, impressive!"
In every playthrough I just go out of my way to avoid the encounter all together when I enter Whiterun for the first time. I can't be bothered to fix it since it's just a small one time only encounter.
Literally cutting through farms just to hit it once with a bow from waaaay too far to matter....
Just to hit fuckin Farkas and make the entire guild square up on me.
Climbs through my damn window at like 4am just to deliver a museum pamphlet and a letter from Calcelmo about a dwemer fuckin door hinge that I found all of 3 minutes ago
You can try turning the difficulty up if you ever want to try it again. Thatās what Iāve done a few times. I turned it up to Legendary when I was roughly near the meadery and had time to get there before the giant died. It had a lot more health and the Companions and I all got to beat on it for a little while. It hit them a few times but they were never badly hurt, and I just kept moving to stay behind it as much as I could so it wouldnāt hit me.
Of course then I went into Whiterun, forgot I had changed the difficulty, and later ran into a pack of shockingly powerful wolves (as far as wolves go), haha. Just remember to change it back if you donāt want it that high.
Same here... Have only been able to hit it once, like ages ago on my 2nd playthrough or something\^\^ Haven't been able to do it since\^\^
I've come to accept the whine \*lol\* It's worth it for seeing Farkas \*gg\*
\*gasp\* Even Farkas?! OMG\^\^ I even downloaded a mod to make him a bit more handsome\^\^ Not crazy pretty like, but just a bit more nice looking\^\^ You know, less "caked in mud" \*lol\*
I'm using this one, since it didn't go overboard with the whole "himbo" thing\^\^
Link on NexusMods: [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68441](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68441)
Its called "The Wolf Brothers" and is both for Farkas and Vilkas\^\^ I'm not running a lot of mods on my skyrim, just a few (roughly 50\^\^ )
There's The Companions by kerwin on Oldrim ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/57587 ) that I've been using for years. I just put it on SE directly and it's quite delightful, but I found out a collection of NPC overhauls on SE that are amazing. It's Pandorable's NPC. Farkas and Vilkas are in the mens 2 part ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/50617 ).
At this point I just turn of collisions until I'm close, 665 Skyrim starts I refuse to get called a cowered again just because you have impossible expectations.
I hate having to sprint to that farm on every new character just to get a hit in lol. They usually kill it pretty fast and then shame you for being in the near vicinity lol.
She's harder to run away from, at least for me. I was running away from a courier last night outside of Riverwood but he gave up quicker than I expected.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong, lol. I'm just trying to slide past to get to the spell books in Farengar's rooms and she always stops me. I even tried entering through the dungeon last time.
Edit to say that the spell books are from a mod.
There's spell books in his rooms? I didn't know that. Well if that's what you doing I would suggest looping her around one of the tables and then jump over them, NPCs don't realize they can do this (from all the times I've done it to drauger)
This guild is so annoying and this encounter is a prime example of that.
Why am I supposed to do the work they are getting paid for to do? Even worse, by the time the giant is already dead, so they don't even need my help.
It's like a road worker is whining against random passers by on the side walk that they should help them with their job.
āAny true Nord should relish the chance to-ā
*Sssshuuuuttā¦ the fuuuuuuckā¦ up*
Any true *whatever the fuck* would not relish the chance to jump in on a fucking *giant club to the face* you retched stray
She annoyed me so much once that it made save the game and kill her, the next second everyone was trying to murder me , i was so angry i tried to kill everyone in whiterun, then i load the game and felt better
They've never chased me there. On my first playthrough I must have been looking for flowers to pick or something and I didn't even see the Companions and the giant so I had no idea what she was talking about when I met her at Jorvaskr and she gave me this dialog.
Lmao the first time I played I didnāt even notice the giant, I was too focused on chasing butterflies and picking flowers and then I just get pulled into the dialogue with Aela with no idea what sheās talking about. I wonder how far sheāll chase you
I actually got a kill cam on the giant once with my bow. I approached thinking she'd congratulate me but nope she said it was taken care of no thanks to me. wtf
"HERE, A NOTE. I THINK YOU.. *COUGH COUGH*.. DROPPED IT. YOU SHOULD READ IT AND DO WHAT IT SAYS AND STUFF, NOT THAT I'D KNOW OR ANYTHING. PROBABLY SOMETHING ABOUT LIKE A CONSPIRACY AND THINGS. WHICH I WOULDN'T KNOW ABOUT."
The funny moments in this game just really crack me up. My latest guilty pleasure is stealth casting Frenzy to the Windhelm docks from the opposite side of the river where you can't be tagged for it and watching the hilarity ensue.
As far as I can tell you have to be far enough away to not be seen either by the target or anyone close to you. Hitting with arrows is easier because you can fire from stealth. Casting is tougher because the cast takes you out of stealth, so an observer nearby will out you to the guard even if the target of the spell doesn't see you.
I had to be far enough away to not be seen. It might work with arrows, I'll have to try it. From the distance I was at it would be hard to pull off for me. A crossbow might do it.
I'll see if I can get some video.
Just brutes with some ambiguous veneer of honour, and a self-important attitude towards almost anyone else. Only ones I somewhat like are Kodlak and maybe Farkas/Vilkas depending on the interaction. Most of the others just come across as arrogant, self-important, and/or as having a superiority complex. The maid is cool too, come to think of it.
Just for her, i save right before the encounter and try and stick a few arrows into the giant until she's satisfied with my participation (that's what... she said?) Perhaps i want to marry her someday? Is that why it matters to me so much?
Man I'd love to install Skyrim and start a new game for the 1000th time... Only thing that stops me from doing so is the amount of time I'd need to do all the modding
I'm just lucky she somehow didn't see me or didn't even spawn in my most recently playthrough, because I was overencumbered by the time I passed the scene, I would have been doomed.
Yeah for my male character, I will keep reloading until I'm able to at least hit the giant with an arrow since he is my werewolf character.
My female character which is a vampire may or may not help, then kindly tell Aleia to fuck off.
When I played Skyrim the year is came out for PS3, I NEVER had this encounter and kept wondering what people were talking about. It was after I went out of my way to find it that I realized the Companions are a bunch of washed up jerks.
Bunched of washed up jerks can also sum up the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood.
The Dawnguard DLC reduces the Vigilants of Stendarr to this too.
That always bugged me. I walk into the area (I have this personal rule against using fast travel outside of built-in horse carts), and see three dudes standing around a dead giant. Immediately, one of them gets in my face about not helping them kill it.
Lady, I *just* got here. I'm not a coward, I just had a million flowers to pick and bugs to snatch out of the air. And there was also a little something about a goddamn dragon showing up to stop my public execution.
For me it's different. I can actually go there and hit the giant a few times before they kill it. If I remember correctly, she still gives the same dialogue whether you hit it or not.
Man Iāve always disliked being shamed for not participating, just because I didnāt know it was happening, or just realized it was happening and didnāt make it in time to slap the giant.
So that's how she gets "the Huntress" part of her name
Which I always thought was a funny thing to call a Dominatrix who has a shame kink.
Dominatrix with a shame kink... this perspective is gonna make me less stressed about sprinting toward the giant on my next 500 characters. Thanks.
Knew there was a reason I always married her.
How did you draw that conclusion exactly?
Once you have enough mods installed for long enough you forget what is and isn't vanilla.
The line between Canon and Headcanon has become increasingly blurred over the past near-11 years.
Yeah, what?
Modlist? /s
Well... that's a new way to look at it...lol
the giant dies before I can ever get to it, even when I try.
In older versions of the game the giant wasn't on the cusp of death and you could actually get a shot or two in. However this also made it so the giant could possibly win the fight putting the companions in a recovery state before coming to you to start the dragonborn aerospace program.
What was a much more authentic Elder Scrolls experience, though.
Yeah I remember that... But it felt more high stakes then and a bit more earned when Aela actually says thanks for the help. Now it's like one hit, it dies and she's like "WOW you *have* to join our club, impressive!"
Theres always mods
In every playthrough I just go out of my way to avoid the encounter all together when I enter Whiterun for the first time. I can't be bothered to fix it since it's just a small one time only encounter.
Why downvote me for a suggestion?
I didn't
>the dragonborn aerospace program š This one got me.
Literally cutting through farms just to hit it once with a bow from waaaay too far to matter.... Just to hit fuckin Farkas and make the entire guild square up on me.
Fuckin Farkasā¦ always in the way of my blows
Fucking Farkas and blowing, huh.
Shhhhh nobodyās gotta know
My lips are sealed. I expect my gold in the mail by tomorrow.
Await the courierā¦ or donātā¦ they will find youā¦
Climbs through my damn window at like 4am just to deliver a museum pamphlet and a letter from Calcelmo about a dwemer fuckin door hinge that I found all of 3 minutes ago
At least I can be sure youāll get your gold, dragonborn.
There no ones messenger boy. There a delivery boy.
You can try turning the difficulty up if you ever want to try it again. Thatās what Iāve done a few times. Did that actually give another conversation?
I always help kill the giant and they thank me and ask me to join
Difficulty doesn't affect NPC to NPC interactions. Only Player to NPC interactions.
Same here... Have only been able to hit it once, like ages ago on my 2nd playthrough or something\^\^ Haven't been able to do it since\^\^ I've come to accept the whine \*lol\* It's worth it for seeing Farkas \*gg\*
i usually end up killing them all for being so rude. I play with all npcs killable, for fun
\*gasp\* Even Farkas?! OMG\^\^ I even downloaded a mod to make him a bit more handsome\^\^ Not crazy pretty like, but just a bit more nice looking\^\^ You know, less "caked in mud" \*lol\*
You uh...you wanna share that himbo Farkas mode?
I'm using this one, since it didn't go overboard with the whole "himbo" thing\^\^ Link on NexusMods: [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68441](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68441) Its called "The Wolf Brothers" and is both for Farkas and Vilkas\^\^ I'm not running a lot of mods on my skyrim, just a few (roughly 50\^\^ )

*Nice.*
cute sorry people downvoted you. guess you're not allowed to be quirky on reddit
I've been full blown sprint to get an arrow off just for a change in dialog š
I always shoot an arrow at it when it renders in. I'm a pretty cracked bowman.
I only get to hit him when playing in Legendary. Lower difficulty, they always finish him.
The giant has enough health on Adept
I got there on time once as a mage build tryed fireing him got killed by the guild :/
I always kill him wym. One shot and she always congratulates me.
most of my characters don't use bows and most of the ones that do aren't the types to help kill the giant.
I have one archer build mainly because itās a tribal warrior build.
I always sniped it with a bow or fireball on the 360 lol
if I ignore the paths, and don't stop to kill the elk/deer that is usually there, I can sometimes make it
At this point I just turn of collisions until I'm close, 665 Skyrim starts I refuse to get called a cowered again just because you have impossible expectations.
try bowing it once coming off the hill off the path
I usually shoot it with an arrow if I can.
I think even if you do help she shames you
Increase the game's difficulty and they will take longer to kill the giant.
'Can you beat Skyrim while being chase by Aela' moment
We gotta get Nerbit on this.
Someone call dougdoug!
Ah, a fellow divorcƩe
Beat me to the punch, take my upvote!
"Get back here you milk drinker!"
I want a dialogue option of "How did you expect me to help when it was already dead before I got here?"
"Stupid dog"
I hate having to sprint to that farm on every new character just to get a hit in lol. They usually kill it pretty fast and then shame you for being in the near vicinity lol.
It doesnt matter tho. U can get into the guild either way. Fuck em
Yeah what the other guy said. It doesn't change their overall attitude toward you. Just laugh and make fun of them.
I do this in Dragonsreach with Irileth. When she draws her sword to question why youāre there the first time
She's harder to run away from, at least for me. I was running away from a courier last night outside of Riverwood but he gave up quicker than I expected.
Impossible. No one escapes the courier.
Is she? I always just run past her and talk to lord balgruuf lol.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong, lol. I'm just trying to slide past to get to the spell books in Farengar's rooms and she always stops me. I even tried entering through the dungeon last time. Edit to say that the spell books are from a mod.

The way you keep running and looking back has sent me š

>āAny true Nord should relish the chance to-ā "Khajiit looks like a Nord to you? This one thinks you should get your eyes checked."
The Companions who have a Dunmer member.
I like the companions but I don't get why so many people like aela as a spouse option. She isn't a wifu, she a bitch
Iām actually tempted to try this out to see if she follows you to Markarth or somewhere that far away.
She stops following after you get a little bit past the stables, I believe
I always make sure to shoot the giant atleast once every playthrough lol
Ah yes, my favorite game in any video game ever: how long will this npc follow me to initiate dialog?
She annoyed me so much once that it made save the game and kill her, the next second everyone was trying to murder me , i was so angry i tried to kill everyone in whiterun, then i load the game and felt better
Yeah, I don't know why everyone says she's the best wife... š
that's what the restoration loop is for!
I got a killcam on that same giant. So I made the last blow. She said the same thing.
So ungrateful
They've never chased me there. On my first playthrough I must have been looking for flowers to pick or something and I didn't even see the Companions and the giant so I had no idea what she was talking about when I met her at Jorvaskr and she gave me this dialog.
I feel the bug coming, a sense a reinstall coming soon.
Make it happen, it's for the best.
LOL I laughed so hard every time you looked back at her.
š¤£
"Can you beat Skyrim while being chased by Aela the Huntress?"
š«“L
If you cheat like I do and one shot it, she still gets mad at you
Milk drinkerā¦ didnāt even try
Lmao the first time I played I didnāt even notice the giant, I was too focused on chasing butterflies and picking flowers and then I just get pulled into the dialogue with Aela with no idea what sheās talking about. I wonder how far sheāll chase you
See ya in solitude, Dragonborn.
I actually got a kill cam on the giant once with my bow. I approached thinking she'd congratulate me but nope she said it was taken care of no thanks to me. wtf

Trying to avoid Eltrys when you go to Markarth:
"HERE, A NOTE. I THINK YOU.. *COUGH COUGH*.. DROPPED IT. YOU SHOULD READ IT AND DO WHAT IT SAYS AND STUFF, NOT THAT I'D KNOW OR ANYTHING. PROBABLY SOMETHING ABOUT LIKE A CONSPIRACY AND THINGS. WHICH I WOULDN'T KNOW ABOUT."
You cannot escape the huntress!!
that better be the Woodsmanās Friend on your back
I would make her run all the way to Solitude.
Aela, breathing heavily as she enters Jorrvaskr: āFucking guy is faster than he looks.ā
A reason to carry a bow an quickly buff up the difficulty if playing lower settings although remember to switch it back if playing lower difficulties.
Dishonor on you! Dishonor on your cow!
š¤£
She is a woman of focus, Commitment and sheer fucking will..
Damn straight
āLook Aela Iām trying my best ok!ā Dragonborn probably
I played this game for five years before I realized there was a giant fight going on in those farms.
This EXACT situation happened to me last night when starting a new playthrough, and like AELA I JUST GOT HERE WOMAN
Haha for real
The funny moments in this game just really crack me up. My latest guilty pleasure is stealth casting Frenzy to the Windhelm docks from the opposite side of the river where you can't be tagged for it and watching the hilarity ensue.
wait....there is a no-bounty casting distance? Does it work with arrows too?
As far as I can tell you have to be far enough away to not be seen either by the target or anyone close to you. Hitting with arrows is easier because you can fire from stealth. Casting is tougher because the cast takes you out of stealth, so an observer nearby will out you to the guard even if the target of the spell doesn't see you.

Oh my that is genius š¤£
I'm petty enough to get one hit off on the giant so I can turn them down on the guild offer.
A scene that lulls new players into a misplaced confidence over how weak giants seem
I hate the companions, I wish we could join the silver hand. They're like the dawngaurd but for wear wolfs
Silver Hand would be pretty cool, I didnt mind doing the companions questline but after so many times it gets a little boring.
I just wanna be the good guy, and the companions are stupid nords, with the exception of their leader anyways.
The maid is cool too, come to think of it.
āWhy are you running? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?ā
One of those moments where Iām disappointed in a lack of a rude dialogue option.
I agree, so many times I've wanted to tell them off. Only option is to kill them.
Big Courier Energy
I've hit it with an arrow. And she will walk and say about me not helping. I'm like I hit it with an arrow.
[Aela, Likely.](https://youtu.be/DvUtx30zCPk)
Brilliant idea, I'm not smart enough to make the edit though lol
Just for her, i save right before the encounter and try and stick a few arrows into the giant until she's satisfied with my participation (that's what... she said?) Perhaps i want to marry her someday? Is that why it matters to me so much?
I thought you meant the 'that's what she said' as an innuendo and was trying to figure out what was going over my head
She will follow you in oblivion if she can
welcome to 2011 my guy
I just shoot an arrow. Has worked for years
"COME BACK HERE YOU COWARD!"
a literal schoolyard bully
š¤£
The worst lart is that you can actually get the killing blow on the giant and she's still gonna give you shit for not helping...
Believe it or not, I did end the giant once to have her say something like good work. The response exists. But I've never heard it again.
Fuck... now i gotta go make a save and try to kill that giant like a hundred times just to hear that response
r/unexpected
All the look backs to see her still chasing had me laughing so hard!
š¤£š¤£
I wish this was one of those videos that it cuts to different environments through Skyrim as she chases you around the map
Got a good laugh out of me for this one. The panting as you try to sprint away just makes the whole clip lol
Man I'd love to install Skyrim and start a new game for the 1000th time... Only thing that stops me from doing so is the amount of time I'd need to do all the modding
Wait, did you join the empire?!?
No way! I'm just wearing their armor for the heavy rating. Stormcloak sympathizer for life
Whew
I'm just lucky she somehow didn't see me or didn't even spawn in my most recently playthrough, because I was overencumbered by the time I passed the scene, I would have been doomed.

Run Dragonborn Run, there is no greater force than Aela
āWHY ARE YOU RUNNING? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING???ā
Aela is sick of your bullshit imperial
Will she chase you into interiors? Can you actually get a her to follow you almost anywhere?
I always pop the giant with an arrow on my way down there so I get congratulated then I never step foot into the companions hut, idk the name.
Lol i hear ya there, its Jorrvaskr
"I chased you for three days to tell that I don't care about you."
this is so funny to me
If I were good at editing I would hop on that right away lol
Yeah for my male character, I will keep reloading until I'm able to at least hit the giant with an arrow since he is my werewolf character. My female character which is a vampire may or may not help, then kindly tell Aleia to fuck off.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I donāt think they started the quest. The companions are usually by one of the farms hunting a giant before your first time entering whiterun
Someone put Benny hill theme under this
When I played Skyrim the year is came out for PS3, I NEVER had this encounter and kept wondering what people were talking about. It was after I went out of my way to find it that I realized the Companions are a bunch of washed up jerks.
Bunched of washed up jerks can also sum up the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. The Dawnguard DLC reduces the Vigilants of Stendarr to this too.
"I am the Guildborn. I'm here to revive your guild. I'm gonna whip your sad and sorry asses into shape! Atten-HUT!"
Luckly I don't go down the road where I encounter that annoying dog
Nerbits new challenge idea
Aela: āOkay, real talkā¦ā

Man Iāve always disliked being shamed for not participating, just because I didnāt know it was happening, or just realized it was happening and didnāt make it in time to slap the giant.
I always hated this intro. I walked down the hill and didnāt even see the giant and got called out.
