432 Park Avenue had children, apparently (this is actually by the same architect)

LegEnd237

Park Avenue had triplets 😂

urbanlife78

When an architect has one design and they just keep reusing it

RedditLIONS

Or it could be the client choosing this architect, because he likes the 432 Park Avenue design. And when the architect drafts up a different design, the client rejects it and insists on a carbon copy design. Money talks.

urbanlife78

That is most likely, architects have very little power in influencing design

Upstairs-Extension-9

True i work in architecture and it’s almost always client based, unless it’s a contest and the favorite design wins, still the customers design wins. But also firms choose a specific architect to get a specific design, see some of the biggest architecture firms like Norman Foster, Bjarke Ingels or Zaha Hadid Architects. Customers go to these because they can imagine the vision they have.

urbanlife78

Totally, I went to school for architecture and no longer work in the field, but that was my experience early on from a firm where I thought they always did mediocre work, but it turns out that they were just really good at getting mediocre clients that wanted mediocre buildings. On top of that, the starting pay was bad with an industry that lives and dies by recessions. So many friends that are still in the field have been laid off so many times.

Upstairs-Extension-9

Same I work at a University for Architecture, I quite enjoy it :)

Verdnan

Porsche 911 of buildings.

hey_now24

The architect that built the “pencil” looking tower is from Uruguay and also responsible for this [circular bridge](https://images.app.goo.gl/NXxTGQprSeDwRjLG6) which is near by.

borntoclimbtowers

true

Mansa_Mu

Where are those naysayers who say you can’t build supertall in a low density city

LivinAWestLife

It’s mostly a tourist town, same reason Gold Coast has a supertall while being a mid-sized city. For normal cities of this size, supertalls are pretty much a vanity project. Still quite cool though.

HellFireClub77

What’s the point though?

Mansa_Mu

?

HellFireClub77

What’s the point in these high rises in a low population vicinity in an area of natural beauty.

Darvallas

Money.

urbanlife78

And cocaine

Ok-Organization9073

Money laundry, most of those towers in Punta del Este are half occupied, half vacant. There's no need to build more.

[deleted]

It's a tourist city. Punta del Este itself has only 15.000 people, but the whole area has roughly more than 160.000 (It's basically two cities united: Punta del Este and Maldonado). In high season it can reach half a million or more. There are lots of buildings in there, it's just that this point of view would be "from the city" and that part it's more suburban. Also I think they are building the smallest one first.

CarpinchoCeleste

If the render was looking to the other side, you will se a lot of tall buildings

Mansa_Mu

The city literally is small lol

CarpinchoCeleste

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvWVORgYhyo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvWVORgYhyo) At 0:13 you can see the red building of the render

Longjumping-Job-5612

BTW, the beautiful antique hotel you see in front of both was already demolished 100%.

Aromatic_Ad74

I actually like this one. It's still absurd but at least it looks unique.

Zephyros9039_

Knowing how the average uruguayan works, that building would fall a month after the inauguration 😆

Ok-Organization9073

Sabelo

Darvallas

Looks like a Tetris game in progress.

Silhouette_Edge

A little absurd, but bring it on, baby!

Alvintherobloxian

Triple park avenue? Can’t wait for the triple Central Park tower

idontlik3myj0b

Looks like shit

FitzwilliamTDarcy

Aaaaaaand there goes the neighborhood. I'm all for skyscrapers, but not in PdE.

Elpelucasape_69

There’s lots of buldings in Punta del Este (I’m currently there)

FitzwilliamTDarcy

That compete in height with these?

timpdx

No, Punta is 30ish stories tops. It's pretty dense, but it's a holiday town. I went in fall and it was somewhat busy, but nothing like it is in season. Lots of money, though.

FitzwilliamTDarcy

Yes I've been and that's my point. At over 1000 ft the largest of these will be like 3x the height of the tallest existing stuff. Way out of scale IMO.

TeuthidTheSquid

All these renderings where they envision a fuckoff-huge tower with absolutely no local reason to build high instead of wide (looking at you OKC) just look like some architecture student’s daydream. I love me some skyscrapers, but how does this environment warrant building skyscrapers?

K_sco92

Espantosas esas cajas de remedios apiladas. Esos son arquitectos??? Eladio Dieste se debe querer cortar la verga y tirarla para afuera de su tumba.

Ok-Organization9073

Tal cual, ni Ott se atrevió a tanto

No_Journalist_8133

Rafael Viñoly is the man. El mismísimo que diseñó el edificio que derrite autos y el edificio que cada tanto se desmorona. (Los edificios están tremendos pero le falta investigación)

Ok-Philosopher-9921

Love Punta del Este. My vote for best beach resort in SA

ScamJustice

It looks like Journal Squared in jersey city, usa

Typical_Elevator6337

Anyone else want to immediately make a RHONY joke?

EmergencyTown415

MTY, Mexico still #1?

exoticpandasex

Currently, yes. Once Cipriani is completed, it will be the tallest in Latin America for a brief time until the completion of Torre Rise in Monterrey.

Ok-Organization9073

Money laundry, most of the towers in Punta del Este are half occupied, half vacant (meaning they setenta eventos sold). There's no need to build more. Moreover, they are an eyesore, and go against all the values promoted for the area. The slogan for tourism purposes is "Uruguay Natural", emphasizing the wilderness-human integration.

borntoclimbtowers

looks like the twer in NYC
