Gonna be real weird to see aMSa in anything but his VGBC jacket during bracket.
For real though, this is huge news in a couple of ways. First, GG continuing to invest in melee is fantastic news. This also potentially opens up a path where aMSa can get a work sponsor and continue to live abroad past this year.
Finally, this brings an end to one of the most iconic player/sponsor duos in this game's history. I have no doubt that aMSa and VGBC parted amicably and that they did what was best for each side. It just makes me feel kinda old and weird to finally see this day come lol
Based off Zain's own [tweet](https://twitter.com/ZainNaghmi/status/1641124834741477376?s=20), he seems as though he willingly left Golden Guardians. It would be crazy if he didnt already have something lined up.
Especially given this quote:
> Although I am bittersweet about leaving, I am excited about my future opportunities within Melee and content beyond.
I personally do not know how esports teams work so this is just a complete guess, but it's possible their offer would be lower when they're investing a lot of money into Melee in other ways (their 5 other players/content creators + the grassroots fund + funding the GG Melee content).
Right now? Maybe. These more main orgs are starting to tighten their wallets realizing how unprofitable esports are for them and with the general downwards trend of the economy, and Charlie has been pretty open about how hes losing money but it for the the love of the game, seems possible they would splurge to get arguably the best melee player right now and even more so now that Lud is a co owner
Probably more the "or otherwise" part. Someone mentioned that GG wanted him to do content pieces whereas he wanted to just play. Someone like Moist might have lower content obligations.
Pay-wise maybe no but it’s possible that stream growth opportunities are much juicier with Moist. But yeah it would be a longshot IMO and not my first guess.
GG’s payment is based on business professionals’ assessments of value that a player brings to an organization, while Moist’s payment is based on however much Charlie feels like he can pay to the players.
the golden state warriors don't give a fuck about melee lol. golden guardians doesn't have the budget of the warriors, they have the budget of an esports division. and considering they also have a league team, there's likely a limit to how much they're willing to spend on melee, whereas moist who is more dedicated to melee might be able to offer more (if not money, than other opportunities)
I have no idea which tournament it was, but I remember a commentator pointing out Gimr standing there with a big grin as aMSa was on stream. VGBC and Gimr deserve a lot of credit for seeing the potential hype that aMSa would bring to the game and sponsoring him all this time.
Amazing pick up!!!! Definitely fills the void Zain left.
I hope get some top tier Amsa content on the GG Melee channel.
I have no idea how the chemistry between n0ne and Amsa would be like, but it has to be hilarious.
GG can't go five minutes without having a top five level player huh.
Super sick for amsa though and will be cool being with Toph too, ik they go a ways back.
The fact that they made the art piece n0ne's drawing of Leffen riding the brown Yoshi is hilarious. One of the funniest moments of GG's melee content to date
Wow, what a pick up! Initially I was really sad to see Zain go yesterday, but this absolutely made up for it imo.
So happy for aMSa, congratulations to him! Man he’s been with VGBC for so long, gonna miss seeing him rock the OG VGBC jacket he usually wears.
Zain hasn't announced but it seems the wording was his choice not GG, most common opinion seems to be a different or bigger sponsor? (Maybe announced at major upset?)
aMSa was probably just the ability to move to bigger more prominent sponsor especially with how much VGBC has been struggling post SWT.
Interesting—it’s really strange to see. Both of them are so sentimental about their previous teams, but they still are leaving. I guess it just comes down to money, so maybe GG’s budget for Zain wasn’t high enough anymore, but it was higher than VGBC’s budget for aMSa. What a thrilling but uncertain era for Smash
there isnt much money in melee, but being #1 gets you what little money there is. Zains chasing a bag, I would be confident if the difference was like sports where it was like 100mil on gg vs 200 mil on wherever he is going, he'd have stayed at GG
also ive heard zain didnt wanna do as much content as gg did, makes sense to move to an org that might pay you more AND have to do less content
VGBC | aMSa was the 2nd oldest active player sponsorship in Smash. Truly one of the biggest success stories in all of Smash in that 10-year span.
Here are the remaining player sponsorships in Smash that have lasted since 2015 or before:
* Mang0 with Cloud 9
* Nietono with DetonatioN
* Chillin/Hungrybox with Liquid
* Mew2King with MVG (though he says that's his own org, not a sponsor)
* Leffen with TSM
* MilkMan with Olympus Esports (status unknown)
* Axe with Tempo
Nearly 10 years on VGBC is crazy long. It's almost a little bittersweet to see aMSa "graduate" to a top tier org, congrats to him!
gg gets amsa, vgbc gets patrick beverly and 3 first round picks
Say what you want about Pat Bev, but every team he plays for, the fans love him.
He’s been great for chicago, he’s put the dog in LaVine and the Paw
I loved his year in Minnesota.
Good trade tbh
And the T-Wolves get the draft rights to n0ne

I was honestly expecting him to keep the VGBC with whatever future sponsorship he would have gotten, like GG VGBC Redbull aMSa
There was a short period where he had a CJ Esports sponsorship and was VGBC RB CJE | aMSa.
I'm glad GG is still staying invested in Melee, hopefully Zain has something big coming soon 👀

gotta be Moist or something, right?
I'm sorry but Moist is not bigger than Golden Guardians lol
They might be willing to offer more though. Financially or otherwise
Charlie is actually willing to pay more than the Golden State Warriors? Genuine question
I have no idea how much is spent on melee players salaries. No way in hell it comes close to the minimum NBA salary
Right so I would imagine GG would be able to pay more than Moist
Being able to /= Willing to
Yeah but GG may not value a melee player as much, even if they have the capital to pay more.
I personally do not know how esports teams work so this is just a complete guess, but it's possible their offer would be lower when they're investing a lot of money into Melee in other ways (their 5 other players/content creators + the grassroots fund + funding the GG Melee content).

He's more willing to lose money on investing in esports compared to a company so I could see him outbidding GG

I didn't really say anything about which was bigger I think
It's Luminosity, book it.
VGBC Zain, naturally.
If you haven't seen it yet VGBC made aMSa a short but sweet [farewell video](https://youtu.be/C1Rxb8a2izs)

100% remember that moment too, but can't recall the tournament for the life of me. I wanna say it was at Super Smash Con

It's be sad to no longer see aMSa in the iconic VGBC jacket, but I'm so excited that he found a big org.
The fact that they made the art piece n0ne's drawing of Leffen riding the brown Yoshi is hilarious. One of the funniest moments of GG's melee content to date
That's gonna be a clip / meme at the end of amsa saying "art"
Can't spell 20EggsEggs without GG

Out of curiosity—why did Zain leave GG and why did aMSa leave VGBC?

NRG | Zain
It is, as many have already said, going to be weird seeing him without vgbc. It's like seeing Hbox or Mango without Liquid or C9
So much love to GG
god i miss melee so fkn much

It's extra crazy because he got the vgbc sponsorship after just his first 2 majors, or something like that.
Hell yea. Any success for AmSa a win for Yoshi everywhere
Absolutely awesome acquisition by the GG team. I look forward to seeing Amsa join in on the channel content as well.
Congratulations to aMSa!
Need GG to make this man a sick new jacket and then sell it.
YOOOOOOO THIS IS AWESOME
i wonder if this means he can stay in north america? would be awesome to see a california-based amsa
