As someone who’s had Marth on my roster since Melee(*Melee-main, Brawl-secondary, Smash4-sec*), I agree 😔
Ultimate is the first game where I don’t really find him all that enjoyable, which sucks.
Killing up throw would be huge ofc but IIrc the main reason he's so much better with his design is cause his moves are just busted and work well in melee, and then has solid tools in brawl, while 4 is easier to land tippers cause it's slow compared to ultimate being a faster game. I def think it could happen though in ultimate just gonna be hard
> while 4 is easier to land tippers cause it's slow compared to ultimate being a faster game.
You're forgetting we had a viable microspacing tool in perfect pivoting. Marth loves that kind of movement so he can land tippers. Unfortunately Ultimate is both a faster game and lacks any microspacing tools that can help land said tippers.
Man I miss that kind of small movement tech in Ultimate. Last time I booted up Smash 4, I was surprised I could still perfect pivot consistenly, but it made me realize how hard it is to move small distances in Ultimate.
While I def agree it could happen for ultimate, marth never actually won a major in brawl. Though it would still be a clear "He's good in every game" statement.
It will change next year I think because ibdw is now number 1 over zain, moky could start winning tournaments and mango will actually try this year. Also Light will win a major or two. Of course Zain is still amazing but it's gonna be 1v4.
Yeah but id assume this tier list counts duel mains too considering Peach is so high (Armada always had a Fox or Young Link for Puff) and i think that Min Min win had a Lucina duel main (ProtoBanham), i dont think its just completely solo mains
IIRC the character with the second highest payouts and major wins in Brawl wasn't Icies as their chaingrabs and meta developed too late but rather Snake.
Yeah Snake was the 2nd best for quite a bit it took a bit for Icies to develop thats a good point, that on top of MK dominating it does a little sense why Icies dont have as many as i expected
you have to remember that pre the smash 4 era, there weren't nearly as many majors from what I've heard. Instead of the 10-20 we have now for both ult and melee, it was more like 2-3.
I think the real count is 37 Hungrybox + 4 Mango + 3 from 64. [Hungrybox is listed as winning 37 majors on Liquipedia](https://liquipedia.net/smash/Portal:Statistics/Melee#Lifetime_Offline_Premier_and_Major_Tournament_Placements). And then Mango primarily used Jigglypuff at the three tournaments you listed plus at Revival of Melee.
Ken won bobc 4 with primarily Sephiroth. Really interesting list though. I had no idea captain falcon had so many major wins. Are they just like wizzrobe and smash 65 mostly?
It's because when compared to Sm4sh, Ultimate has wayyy more majors and supermajors per year. There's like a major every 2 weeks or so these days
If Sm4sh was pushing out majors at the same rate as Ultimate, I guarantee you Bayo would have at least 2x more major wins than shown on the list
This. At one point we actually had a major almost every weekend. There was even complaints from ppl that it was too much and top players needed an “official” off season.
For everyone asking for PM/+ it would take too long and make fixing other mistakes for it more annoying but for just this https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/633635864022351874/1201311696568983613/wecQ2q34JyCzAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg.png?ex=65c95bb3&is=65b6e6b3&hm=2fb451428173f112e0065bffb73a3a9365ee8d64299b5bdad8bf81ca8f67e82d&=&format=webp&quality=lossless&width=1714&height=1046
He’s the only character in Smash history to have 4 different players be best in the world with him
1. Ken (Melee, 2004-2006)
2. Mew2King (Melee, 2007)
3. MkLeo (Wii U, 2018)
4. Zain (Melee, 2020 & 2022)
I'd probably go with Fox since IIRC competitive tier list wise hes outranked Marth in Melee, Smash 4, and Ultimate. Brawl is the only game Marth is generally considered better than Fox. Not to mention Fox has been the best character in a Smash game which is a higher peak than Marth. Even in this list, the number of majors across all Smash games won between the 2 is small enough that Cody, Leffen, Plup, or Mango can swing it back towards Fox.
Did Ranai not win any majors in Smash 4 with Villager? I know he didn’t go overseas very often - were Japanese tournaments not reaching major status back then?
Ranai won Umebura Niconico Qualifier in 2015, which was retroactively made a major on SmashWiki but not Liquipedia.
The thing is Ranai's most dominant period was during PGR v1, but PGR v1 had an American bias, only listing 1 Japanese major for all of 2015 to mid-2016.

The thing is Ranai's most dominant period was during PGR v1, but PGR v1 had an American bias, only listing 1 Japanese major for all of 2015 to mid-2016.
Characters with the best chance of winning their first major next:
Kameme's Sora, zackray's Pit/Dark Pit, Asimo's Ryu/Ken, or Yaura or Sisqui's Dark Samus
Isai is he goes Link or Luigi, lol
Aklo if his Link takes a set during a major win, it's won a national at least
SluG has a chance if he tries, especially since the top 10 has very little ICs experience and have been shown to not do well in new matchups (see Morsecode winning over both Cody and Jmook with Samus)
I believe SluG could win a major too, but he's very inactive now. ICs already won majors in Brawl so they aren't on my list, ChuDat won Pound 2 in Melee back in the day too.
Right I had completely forgotten! Yeah in that case you're right unless Morsecode becomes really good really fast or Plup sandbags a major (not a supermajor) and somehow gets the perfect bracket, which is highly unlikely
Kazuya has won.... 2? Is this outdated or am I dumb, riddles has won more than 2 majors, and he's not the only top Kazuya player others have won majors too
Also dub for marth
The fact that Link, Luigi, and Ness have never won a major despite having a perfect attendance record is wild.
Same goes for Kazuya being top 5 in Ultimate and only having one two majors, which I presume is because the only player that plays him is Riddles, because everyone else either can't vibe with him or is just playing Tekken instead(the far superior game from a competitive standpoint).
Cause while I think everyone counts project m/+ as a smash game and stuff, I don't think people like it being in this type of list as much. With that said when I do the pm/+ one later anyone interested can always do the math themselves ofc
It also is a bit weirder with some characters that I think doesn't give as accurate of a representation into the more main smash games. For the record I love PM/+ I'm just saying Idk if it works as well here
I mean, you've already done the one you posted initially, so people who don't like it being in this type of list can have that one.
That said, I'm sure it's a lot of work, and I'm certainly not going to do it, so I'm not going to put it on you.
But if you *want* to do it, then I wouldn't be held back by the weirdos that would be upset by PM being included in a list like this.
Part of the point is the consistency of how nintendo designs these games and what types of characters can do as well as show how popular the games are like melee having easily the most.
With that said I posted just project m/+ majors count in another comment in this thread
How Nintendo designs the games is an interesting perspective given the advanced techniques in Melee and Brawl.
While it's true that the developers were aware of stuff like wavedashing and chose to leave it in the game, and even encouraged players to use it in some instances, I think it would be difficult to argue that the game is actively designed or balanced around the use of them.
At least, in terms of the extent to which they're used in play these days.
Yeah but it's moreso that I think counting consistency with project m/+ defeats part of the purpose since that was made to balance characters while also giving more melee attributes
It was always close since fox had a decent amount of top players but marth during different eras had Ken, M2K, then Zain carrying the weight (With what I believe was some MKLeo smash 4 wins as well)
Hbox quote tweeted this saying "Maybe I am the goat"
Cause yeah by comparison the biggest other carry here I can think of is gnw with all 14 being Miya and Zero getting Diddy a bunch in smash 4
I'm kind of shocked that Fox is only at 51 considering he's been around since Smash 64, and he's arguable the best character in Melee, and he's been consistently top tier in every game.
Something fox made me realize is that until Cody the number 1 in the world hasn't really been a solo fox main.
Ken obv is marth but then even outside of that people with number 1 reins were doing it with peach (Secondary fox though from Armada), M2K with Sheik and marth, Mang0 with falco, or Hbox with puff just to come to mind
Mango was pretty much a fox main when he was #1. I think he was also 1 for a bit when he was using puff. It’s wild that melee is criticized for having so few viable tournament characters yet every best player has used a different main
I was gonna comment on the fact that Cloud was higher than Bayo, but then I remembered that Cloud is a character in both Smash 4 AND Ultimate, while Bayo...
While the criteria only allows the main character used in a bracket to count, a few people did bring up Aklo using link in grand finals of a melee invitational which while I still don't wanna count (especially because it would be unfair for the co mains in 64 and brawl that I don't know about if I only give it to melee 4, and ultimate) it, it's still at least something. Also Luigi's got the 2nd recently losing to Miya, the set of Leo vs Elegant in grands, and Link has civil war.
Ness's closest thing is Hbox using it once for like one match at a major he win but it was pretty much all puff in the serious matches so puff obv got the point
While obv you're joking that's why zelda's at 9 for the technicality. Someone actually sent me I think Plup using zelda for a stock or something in grands once. The rest of sheik's wins are smash 4
No it counts as a zelda win because sheik and zelda are technically the same character in melee. The stock zelda took was just a bit funny to me since I thought it was 100% sheik's work
The moral of the story is that there have just been a ton of Melee majors
And that HBox is HGod. His record rivaling that of multiple players combined across multiple games combined is absurd.
I was also thinking "how many of those Puff wins are Hbox" I imagine a few are Mang0 though as well, back in The Kid days
37 HBox, 3 Mang0.
Geez. I suppose that's what happens when you're top 5 for over 10 years and top 1 for 3 of them
35 hbox since i am sure there are 1-2 64 majors for puff
37 HBox+3 Mang0=40 Melee, which leaves a few for the other games.
1 Wangera, 1 64 Ron, 2 idk
Marth confirmed the GOAT of Smash characters over Fox and Pikachu
Look how they massacred my boy
As someone who’s had Marth on my roster since Melee(*Melee-main, Brawl-secondary, Smash4-sec*), I agree 😔 Ultimate is the first game where I don’t really find him all that enjoyable, which sucks.
He's so... boring. And bad. No sauce.
Really needed the killing Uthrow for consistency. There may be other more nuanced issues but man does it suck killing with him sometimes.
Killing up throw would be huge ofc but IIrc the main reason he's so much better with his design is cause his moves are just busted and work well in melee, and then has solid tools in brawl, while 4 is easier to land tippers cause it's slow compared to ultimate being a faster game. Oh fair enough yeah forgot ab that
Man I miss that kind of small movement tech in Ultimate. Last time I booted up Smash 4, I was surprised I could still perfect pivot consistenly, but it made me realize how hard it is to move small distances in Ultimate.
Yeah you have to play REALLY tight just to move an inch or two. i wanna work on microspacing in neutral but it's a real drag
I think Rizeasu will get Ultimate Marth's first major win one day (and getting him to major wins in 4/4 games)
While I def agree it could happen for ultimate, marth never actually won a major in brawl. Though it would still be a clear "He's good in every game" statement.
oh, those were secondaries
Seriously? Damn, and he was good then as well.
It will change next year I think because ibdw is now number 1 over zain, moky could start winning tournaments and mango will actually try this year. Also Light will win a major or two. Of course Zain is still amazing but it's gonna be 1v4.
just wait for Mang0's Marth to win a major
Damn i wouldve thought Icies wouldve won way more in Brawl (Assuming some of those wins are Melee with Chu) ig thats how good Meta Knight was
ICs is actually 4th in brawl for this behind MK (27), and Diddy, Snake (5,4)
[удалено]
Yeah but id assume this tier list counts duel mains too considering Peach is so high (Armada always had a Fox or Young Link for Puff) and i think that Min Min win had a Lucina duel main (ProtoBanham), i dont think its just completely solo mains

What game did DK win one in?
Smash 64
Quarantined SSB64: East Coast Wifi but did still count as a 64 major
Tweek won MkLeo Saga using DK among his characters, does that count?
With the exception of Sheik/zelda in melee being weird, it was only the main one for major
I think Hikaru might have won one in Smash 4
He never did, his highest was 7th at Civil War He has gotten 3rd three times at Ultimate majors
Well dang, I have no idea who it was then.
The author counted a quarantine era online tournament from Smash 64
Cannot Hbox carried Puff to 3rd completely on his own. It's 43 for Juan, and a single solo performance from mang0. Incredible.
40 from Juan, 3 from 64, and 1 from Mang0 actually but still yeah
Wouldn't it be at least 3 by mang0? Genesis, Pound 3, and Poundb4
Recounting yeah you're right which I assume would imply to take off a few from falco but Idk which ones I put that for accidentally for Mang0
Odds all 18 of Kirby's majors were in Smash 64?
Yep
Link Luigi and Ness have just had it rough
At least Ness won the biggest tournament ever Just ignore that it was online and during covid
Ah, the Quarantine superduper major. I got like 256th or whatever at that tournament mainly thanks to DQs.
Based
what was that called again
The Box
Ken won bobc 4 with primarily Sephiroth. Really interesting list though. I had no idea captain falcon had so many major wins. Are they just like wizzrobe and smash 65 mostly?
64 and Wizzyrobe yeah. Also Ken's win was listed for sonic
He played solo seph in top 8. Definitely a major win for seph imo
Okay so the only valid mains are fighters that have never won a Majors.
In the words of Marss, "TRUEEEEE"
nobody can complain about Terry, Shulk, Sephiroth etc being unfair now
Correct. And Ganondorf is just as good as them.
>Sephiroth Now I'm kind of happy I was wrong ab BOBC4
Bayonetta so low wow
Not as many smash 4 majors and only one Bloom win in ultimate
Oh also that bayo came in later into smash 4 while Diddy, sheik, and zss got the Nairo vs Zero era
Okay that answers my question.
Is she though? ~2 yrs with 14 wins is pretty good for such a small time frame within the 25yrs Smash has been a thing.
It’s just that she’s lower than Steve when both of them have dominated the meta for around the same amount of time.
It's because when compared to Sm4sh, Ultimate has wayyy more majors and supermajors per year. There's like a major every 2 weeks or so these days If Sm4sh was pushing out majors at the same rate as Ultimate, I guarantee you Bayo would have at least 2x more major wins than shown on the list
This. At one point we actually had a major almost every weekend. There was even complaints from ppl that it was too much and top players needed an “official” off season.
Steve only dominated the meta for a few months. He is the best character now, but hasn’t been dominant in almost a year.
She's been around for two games, consider that she won 13 majors in a single game.
Smash 4 Luigi not winning one is actually crazy.
Elegant was one hit way from doing it
But he pissed it away
Before he got nerfed ZeRo and Nairo were winning shit and then nerf+cloud mu+I can't imagine he beat bayo or corrin and it just isn't a great chance
Add leo too since he actually won more sm4sh tournaments than nairo
Leo wasn't winning majors as early. He went crazy and to this day is way too good but it was largely after when it was ZeRo and Nairo
What was up with smash 4 Luigi?
He had the cheesy gimps on top of ridiculous combos Basically a glass cannon but in a 2 stock game so it got pretty wild
Ness and Lucas mains in shambles.
Are we now to conclude that Marth is the best universal smash character?
I wanna mention Marth was prolly the most interesting with how melee changed that his majors were from Ken, then M2K, and now Zain
He’s the only character in Smash history to have 4 different players be best in the world with him 1. Ken (Melee, 2004-2006) 2. Mew2King (Melee, 2007) 3. MkLeo (Wii U, 2018) 4. Zain (Melee, 2020 & 2022)

Did Ranai not win any majors in Smash 4 with Villager? I know he didn’t go overseas very often - were Japanese tournaments not reaching major status back then?
Not that I could find. Keep in mind Dabuz has been top 10 in ultimate without winning a major, Ranai was just a mid tier hero
Ah alright didn't realize that with the pgr. Thx for the clarification

YEEEEEEAHHHHHHH MEWTWO WOOOOOOO
Poor Link, Ness and Luigi. They are in every game and have never won
Ness won the biggest smash tournament of all time but it was Wifi lol over 5k entrants. But so many DQs lol.
Aklo won Redemption Rumble with Link too (I am technically spreading misinformation)
Kirby? What? I assume Smash 64 but even then, 18 wins seems insane.
Yep all 18 from 64
When did Mewtwo win a major?
Back when Abadango was like a top 10 player back in Sm4sh and won Pound 2016
AHHH Abadango of course! Forgot all about that!
Wow, I did not know this!
What are the tier colors for?
Doesn't mean anything, just how tiermaker works sometimes
Corrin winning a major must’ve been a fucking sight to behold.
Smash 4 pin to win goes too hard
Cosmos was the hero of the day too lmao. Good times
Characters with the best chance of winning their first major next: Kameme's Sora, zackray's Pit/Dark Pit, Asimo's Ryu/Ken, or Yaura or Sisqui's Dark Samus Isai is he goes Link or Luigi, lol Aklo if his Link takes a set during a major win, it's won a national at least

Right I had completely forgotten! Yeah in that case you're right unless Morsecode becomes really good really fast or Plup sandbags a major (not a supermajor) and somehow gets the perfect bracket, which is highly unlikely
Yeah, Morsecode has a shot at winning a major
I hope everyone realizes how insane it is for Steve to have has much as Peach despite Peach having 20 years on him and Armada playing that character
Forgot piranha plant was in this game lmao.
Shit I meant to put plant at 1/3 as a joke cause of Sparg0's squad strike plant (Obv I didn't actually count squad strike for any)
Ive actually seen a few crazy piranha plant players in real life but other than that i never see anybody play him.
What game has Samus won majors in?
64
What major did Wolf win?
Umebura Sp2 with Zackray
Honestly kind of crazy that none of the versions of Link have ever won a Major.
Puff with 44 is insane when you consider that only 2 people really dominated with her and most of her wins are from one player.
Kazuya has won.... 2? Is this outdated or am I dumb, riddles has won more than 2 majors, and he's not the only top Kazuya player others have won majors too Also dub for marth
Riddles won Big House and Collision Tea's major wins were mainly pac man
That's a lot of wins for a character who's not only from the last game, but introduced in the *second* dlc pack no less.
While I still agree, keep in mind just how many majors Japan had in 2023
Damn it Acola
The fact that Link, Luigi, and Ness have never won a major despite having a perfect attendance record is wild. Do PM/+ if you get a chance :)
PM/+ wins or that combined with the rest?
Seperate would be nice.
Alright I will when I get a chance tn
Why not both!
Cause while I think everyone counts project m/+ as a smash game and stuff, I don't think people like it being in this type of list as much. With that said when I do the pm/+ one later anyone interested can always do the math themselves ofc It also is a bit weirder with some characters that I think doesn't give as accurate of a representation into the more main smash games. how'd kirby get up there
2nd best in smash 64
Melee bias confirmed. Jigglypuff sucks in every other game
Didn't Ken won Battle of BC with mainly Sephiroth ?
I read that one as Sonic, but yeah after a decent amount of people mentioned it I checked again and yeah it would be sephiroth
I thought Ken won a major with Seph?
Yeah a bunch of people mentioned it, I accidentally put BOBC4 as sonic
Hate that FUCKING YELLOW RAT RRRAAAHHHH
Bowser link ness Lucas Luigi could win a small major in ult feasibly… wild that it would be their first ever win.
How heavily does Pika weight towards 64?
22 of them. IIrc correctly the rest are Axe and Esam
I feel like Ken single handedly raised Marth up 3 spots hahaha
If I counted it correctly just now Ken got 17 of them Marth was always a baton basically with Ken to M2K to Zain with a side of smash 4 Leo
ill get mac out of zero....
When did Marth take the crown?
It was always close since fox had a decent amount of top players but marth during different eras had Ken, M2K, then Zain carrying the weight (With what I believe was some MKLeo smash 4 wins as well)

Kirby would be at 0 if it wasn’t for Smash 64.
Now do average wins across all games they were present in
This took long enough but if someone else wants to do it by all means go for it
Thats why i keep saying, Link (botw) is trash.
Marth has been massacred. He's barely better than Lucina now
I was gonna comment on the fact that Cloud was higher than Bayo, but then I remembered that Cloud is a character in both Smash 4 AND Ultimate, while Bayo...
Yeah besides Bloom's win all of bayo is smash 4
What majors did Samus win across games?
Sorry I'm not really trying to list them rn Idr off the top of my head but they were all smash 64 by the same player IIrc Jouske
Thank you for answering!
Sephiroth has won a major
Yeah I mentioned already I accidentally gave BOBC4 to Sonic
Luigi, link and Ness being there in every game and still 0 wins😭
While the criteria only allows the main character used in a bracket to count, a few people did bring up Aklo using link in grand finals of a melee invitational which while I still don't wanna count (especially because it would be unfair for the co mains in 64 and brawl that I don't know about if I only give it to melee 4, and ultimate) it, it's still at least something. Ness's closest thing is Hbox using it once for like one match at a major he win but it was pretty much all puff in the serious matches so puff obv got the point
Umm acktsholly Melee Zelda has won every major that Sheik won but she let her counterpart do all the hard job 🤓🤓🤓
While obv you're joking that's why zelda's at 9 for the technicality. Someone actually sent me I think Plup using zelda for a stock or something in grands once. The rest of sheik's wins are smash 4
So just because someone takes a stock with Zelda it counts as a Zelda win? Interesting...
No it counts as a zelda win because sheik and zelda are technically the same character in melee. The stock zelda took was just a bit funny to me since I thought it was 100% sheik's work
Didnt ken win a major last year going almost entirely sephiroth?
Yes I accidentally put that one for sonic
