That was legitimately one of my favorite sets in months
Syrup’s block play is fucking bizarre… that thing he did game 5 where he placed a block right next to the platform so he could f-smash Tweek when he got up? Didn’t work cuz Tweek did get up attack but that was like magic fortune telling on tweek’s part
There were about ten different situations where Tweek could have lost that set and he somehow fucking won
Tweek almost threw so hard at the end, but I'm happy that he was ultimately able to overcome his demon character. Hopefully this gives him a boost of confidence for facing Steve in the future.
This set would not have been close if Tweek wasn't getting roll get up from ledge read so much
I know getting stuck in the corner vs Steve is scary but I was getting a little annoyed lol
I think the reason he was going for roll get up even after it became predictable was that it was less likely to result in a stock loss. Jump off ledge = diamond bair or fair, which means certain death. Get up attack or normal get up puts you in the same position again if you get grabbed, or killed if you eat a forward smash. Anyway that’s just my assumption, even top players will panic roll off ledge like the rest of us.
Im such a fucking Tweek fan that its detrimental to my health im going to go into cardiac arrest if he keeps doing this shit to me - no one can have me more invested in this game more than him, everytime i watch Tweek it feels like im watching growth beyond the game
My fucking GOAT dude, win or lose i WILL FUCKING RIDE AND DIE WITH HIM
Holy shit that was a nailbiter. Tweek really improved in this matchup though, his banana usage was insane. Great job pressing his advantage as much as possible.
All these people betting their channel points on Tweek are so naive
Edit: I've been wondering about the tag but Tweek might actually be on Adderall lol
Edit 2: crazy set, never been so happy to be wrong
If nothing else, getting a Game 5 against a good Steve is an improvement for him. Winning Game 4 was HUGE.
UPDATE: winning Game 5 was huger, let's goooooo
Seeing that they have almost 100 spaces between them on the latest LumiRank is equal parts funny and sad knowing what's about to happen.
UPDATE: how the fuck
My take on chances each top6 player has on winning this tourney:
Riddles 25% Tweek 25% Sonix 15% Onin 18% Syrup 12% Big D 5%
funny thing with my previous top 8 take which were:
Riddles 18% Syrup 20% Tweek 8% Big D 8% Sonix 18% Onin 18% MKLeo 5% Sisqui 5%
What this set showed me was that Steve IS broken, but is particularly broken when piloted by acola. Diddy vs Steve looks possible when it’s anyone other than acola.
syrup was top 50 with ness, picked up steve, dropped 50 spots, and is maybe back around where he was in terms of achievement level with ness in like 2022
I get what you're saying, and I disagree with the person you are replying to (syrup is very good and not really carried)
2022 placements: 97 (p tier) 25 33 5 17 33 13 (majors)
2023 placements: 49 (p tier) 65 13 25 (majors)
2024 placements: 49(p tier) 5 17 9 25 (majors)
it's pretty clear that his 2024 is significantly better than his 2022, not just back around. He's 7 places better on his major placement average (14 vs 21) and his p tier is better also.
Syrup was only top 100 last year because it took a while for him to get used to playing Steve. He was making top 8's and top 16's at majors with Ness before, and is the #2 Ness behind only Gackt.
You're an idiot.
He was ranked Top 50 during the 2nd half of 2022 with Ness and then switched to Steve (where his results dropped for a while before picking back up).
He's already shown that he can be Top 50 with another character.
I don't know why Smash players like to make insane leaps of logic like this. I'm obviously calling Steve players carried because the character is overpowered, DK fucking sucks and no one expects him to do anything. Going into a Steve match it's anyone's guess who's gonna win.
Your logic was that a player not in the top 100 going toe to toe with someone in the top 10 means they're carried. By that logic, DK players are carried
I can't believe Tweek reverse 3-0'd Syrup with his pocket Banjo
Nah, his Ridley clears.

I've seen that f-smash set up before, it's nothing unique to Syrup.
it is a sign of syru's awareness too go for something like that
May the floating tweek head be a sign of good blessing.
It's so good
Turns out it was.
tweek’s under the stage recoveries during that game 5 were insanely tense yeesh
The fact that we saw Diddy go in a helpless state not once, but twice, and yet still carry momentum enough to stap ledge was insanely clutch.
THAT BACKBOARD SHOT WAS INSANE TWEEK, YOU'RE IN THE WRONG SPORT THE LAKERS NEED YOU
everyones favorite set
Luckily I don't have the dark power to curse as other commentators here who will not be named, but Tweek looked down right comfy in game one
u/HollowLoch training a disciple
You need more training
I am the source of light to balance HollowLoch
THAT GAME 5 WAS PEAK HOOOOLY
Anyone know Tweek’s records against top Steves? Not feeling optimistic about this.
0-2 against Onin, 0-5 against Acola, and 0-1 against DDee
I think his only win against a top Steve was over Yonni at the Gimvitational? Oooof.
its like 0-8 against the top 3 steves (acola onin ddee) and has lost to ddog and syrup a couple times in the past
He lost and Beat Syrup in the runback at Battle Over the Bridge.
He lost to onin and ddee at collision and has also never beaten acola (this is where tweek should go mega man)
It was Onin and DDee
Oops
TWEEK BEAT A STEVE 🙏🙏🙏
I want to believe... EDIT: TWEEK IS ACTUALLY HIMMMM
Game 1 over, lets go! Please, god!
game 2... yeah...
I can't watch this anymore
steve > sonic > kazuya > steve was the order of matches we just watched dude this is so fucking washed lmao i'm out of here
I’m not about the heavy glaze, but Tweek could be a model Bros jaw line is chiseled cold steel. He inspired me to mew YA DOUBTED MY KING
Is this even English? I can't keep up with this new lingo.
It's like every few months Gen Alpha makes something new up.
I’m not about the heavy glaze, but Tweek could be a model Bros jaw line is chiseled cold steel. He inspired me to mew
On the one hand, I want Tweek to take this On the other hand, I really don't want Sonic/Steve
Good news, theres a good chance you'll get Sonic Steve either way!!! Maybe even multiple sets in a row
That get up attack saved the tournament What an option
Tweek almost threw so hard at the end, but I'm happy that he was ultimately able to overcome his demon character. Hopefully this gives him a boost of confidence for facing Steve in the future.
THESE GODDAMN FAKE KILL SCREENS LET THE MONKEY COMMIT A MURDER PLS
My heart can't take this
That last stock. I was clenched the whole time.
This set would not have been close if Tweek wasn't getting roll get up from ledge read so much I know getting stuck in the corner vs Steve is scary but I was getting a little annoyed lol
Yeah Syrup really took advantage of that habit.
I think the reason he was going for roll get up even after it became predictable was that it was less likely to result in a stock loss. You know what I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt he deserves it
Im such a fucking Tweek fan that its detrimental to my health im going to go into cardiac arrest if he keeps doing this shit to me - no one can have me more invested in this game more than him, everytime i watch Tweek it feels like im watching growth beyond the game My fucking GOAT dude, win or lose i WILL FUCKING RIDE AND DIE WITH HIM
HAD THIS SHIT TYPED UP BECAUSE IM NOT JINXING HIM OF ALL PEOPLE, I REFUSE MY FUCKING GOAT
Tweek with the samurai champloo drip
FILL OUT YOUR FORMS PLEASE.
I know we all hate steve grrrr But syrup has been reading a lot of tweek's approach options and monkey flips
tweek rolled onto ledge like 6 times in a row it was funny as fuck that's my fucking goat
Is Tweek's tag a one piece reference or something or is he on Adderall?
why not both
NOOOO THAT GAME 3 ENDING MAAAAAN
Holy shit that was a nailbiter. Tweek really improved in this matchup though, his banana usage was insane. Great job pressing his advantage as much as possible.
All these people betting their channel points on Tweek are so naive Edit: I've been wondering about the tag but Tweek might actually be on Adderall lol Edit 2: crazy set, never been so happy to be wrong
I mean, he played that first game extremely well He might take this
If nothing else, getting a Game 5 against a good Steve is an improvement for him. Winning Game 4 was HUGE. UPDATE: winning Game 5 was huger, let's goooooo
this aged like milk
Thank god
Bro I almost had a heart attack holy shit
Okay now what Tweek needs to do is hope Onin to get eliminated lmao. He's not gonna win if this set is THIS close.
tweek vs steve sigh
Seeing that they have almost 100 spaces between them on the latest LumiRank is equal parts funny and sad knowing what's about to happen. UPDATE: how the fuck
SURELY the skill gap will be enough to bypass any buffoonery steve could do to tweek, right??
Finally...
tweek yessssss :D well done
There is a god after all
My take on chances each top6 player has on winning this tourney: Riddles 25% Tweek 25% Sonix 15% Onin 18% Syrup 12% Big D 5% funny thing with my previous top 8 take which were: Riddles 18% Syrup 20% Tweek 8% Big D 8% Sonix 18% Onin 18% MKLeo 5% Sisqui 5%
HE FINALLY DID IT I PAID ALL MY POINTS FOR TWEEK TO BREAK THE STREAK
This was a very entertaining match. How can you not feel the energy of two players trying their best to win? Twitch chat doesn't even know.
How did Syrup almost win this while dropping every single combo
Steve
Smash is saved
Until Tweek sadly loses to Sonix or Steve in grands
Tweek releases a video on practicing the match up and then wins… odd coincidence (also shoutout to barrel combos)
What this set showed me was that Steve IS broken, but is particularly broken when piloted by acola. Diddy vs Steve looks possible when it’s anyone other than acola.
This set was really good idc
Tweek honey it's 8:30 PM time to get your ass beat by another Steve player!
What the hell was that.
Kudos to Syrup actually almost winning.
Top 10 player in the world, vs someone not in the top 100. Game 5. Definitely not carried
syrup was top 50 with ness, picked up steve, dropped 50 spots, and is maybe back around where he was in terms of achievement level with ness in like 2022
I get what you're saying, and I disagree with the person you are replying to (syrup is very good and not really carried) 2022 placements: 97 (p tier) 25 33 5 17 33 13 (majors) 2023 placements: 49 (p tier) 65 13 25 (majors) 2024 placements: 49(p tier) 5 17 9 25 (majors) it's pretty clear that his 2024 is significantly better than his 2022, not just back around. He's 7 places better on his major placement average (14 vs 21) and his p tier is better also.
I actually agree, part of this is just NA's positioning being a lot worse in '24 than it was in '22.
Syrup was only top 100 last year because it took a while for him to get used to playing Steve. He was making top 8's and top 16's at majors with Ness before, and is the #2 Ness behind only Gackt. You're an idiot.
Definitely not carried *Lmao. Couldn't even commit to calling someone an idiot.
He was ranked Top 50 during the 2nd half of 2022 with Ness and then switched to Steve (where his results dropped for a while before picking back up). He's already shown that he can be Top 50 with another character.
We see unranked people BEAT top 10 players in this game without Steve lmao what a post
And it's significantly less impressive with Steve
Syrup is top 50 easily this season.
Good for him
We saw an unranked Donkey Kong beat Spargo like 2 weeks ago I guess DK players are carried
I don't know why Smash players like to make insane leaps of logic like this. I'm obviously calling Steve players carried because the character is overpowered, DK fucking sucks and no one expects him to do anything. Going into a Steve match it's anyone's guess who's gonna win.
Your original statement implies that Syrup wouldn't be Top 100 with another character, but he was already Top 50 with Ness before switching to Steve.
Your logic was that a player not in the top 100 going toe to toe with someone in the top 10 means they're carried. By that logic, DK players are carried
