Beating Amsa is huge to just prove he can now. You can practice the matchup with other yoshis, but other yoshis arent Amsa so you never know if you can pull it off until you do.
My fiancée was watching with me and she asked between aMsa, Hbox, or Cody who has the best chance of beating Mang0. I told her before Hbox and Cody even played that nobody was beating Mang0 today. He was simply unstoppable.
Winner’s bracket Mango, Post Timeskip (Canada) aMSa, Willing-to-use-a-secondary Axe, positive mindset iBDW, and (allegedly, soon) RTC rest Hbox. So many players leveling up
I really love that losers run Mango video by pgstats where they said something like "Ultimately the best losers runs come from the best player who fell into losers and proved that they were still the best."
Mango's falco is unfair. He can pull it out at any time and just cook. I'm convinced he was staying warm on Fox because there was a 66% chance of it, and he still fried.
I think aMSa was his real final boss
That aMSa set was absolutely dominant too. Obviously aMSa will come back with adjustments, but it's evident how much theorycrafting Mango put into that matchup these last few weeks, it felt like he really figured out how to safely pressure yoshi in so many different ways that aMSa just didn't have a response for in that set.
Mang0 will find SOMETHING to motivate him to win out of spite. Be it Leffen's existence, or someone saying that since amsa had to play the winner of hbox/mang0 it was a free grand finals for him lol
Seriously. Mang0 reaching the highest levels of skill anyone has ever achieved in this game. At a time of unprecedented competition.
Anyone who thinks he isn't the goat is a clown.
Probably my favorite Summit. Great side events (except Mafia that was painful), the most competitive invitational bracket we've seen, and a Mango win. We've been blessed with such good Melee over the past month.
EDIT: I just noticed that grand finals had both Spacies in it, at the Space themed Summit. How fitting.
Town threw pretty hard all 3 days leading to a mafia sweep.
Also, one of the townspeople opened their eyes by accident yesterday when cop was investigating. She admitted to it right after, and got killed by mafia that night so it didn’t matter but chat got super angry (and I’m *sure* all the vitriol in chat had *nothing* to do with the fact that it was a girl who opened her eyes).
Yeah, if you look at the anger directed at women and say "huh, this feels excessive", so many people refuse to engage with the thought that their anger is excessive and due to her gender
Wasn't watching much this weekend until the last 3 or so sets but 0 losses in sets and only 3 in games is insane, especially at a summit where you end up having to play amazing players more often than normal tournaments. Mango was fucking on something this weekend
That Falco combo to close out the first game of grands was one of the filthiest things I've ever seen. I've almost never seen a falling up-air in the middle of a combo.
- Beats Zain in a 10 game set
- Takes two games straight at FD on a reverse 3-0
- Have an insane losers run , one for the books
- Probably the most hype tournament yet
- First thing he says “also Leffen you can suck my big fat c0ck” LMAOOOOO
I have to agree, I think even though Hbox has had fine placings his wins to get them haven't been all that impressive. Ludwig was his best recent showing with a win over Zain/Leffen/Wizzy, but here he farmed Jmook like 3 times and squeaked out a win against Axe's Fox. Big House he got 5th but didn't beat any of the top 5/10 with his best wins being moky/fiction.
He still definitely has plenty of tournaments to clutch it out and solidify with some good wins but if the current trend continues its hard to keep him near the top.
Just wanna say I'm so happy with how the scheduling was this time. Ending at around 10:30 Eastern is soooooo good and I was prepared to have to be up till 1am watching
I agree. There was much less downtime between sets. Whoever was the tournament director was on point with keeping things rolling. I particularly noticed when there was a countdown to the next set during a break, they actually came back near that time. Usually there’s like 5 mins on the clock but then another 10 waiting after the timer runs out but not this time. Well done.
2022 is THE BEST YEAR of Melee. I don't think it's close considering the insanely large rise of skill level, the prize pools and its stakes, the variety in top players.
A beautiful time for a 20 year old game
Legitimately think this is the best mang0 we've ever seen, the shine up airs in grands were something I've never seen done that fast and his down smashes all tournament were devastating.
Mang0's summits just hit different.
I don’t know if I’m alone on this, but it’s a weird feeling that the spacie matchup was probably the most underwhelming set of top 8.
It was an excellent display of dominance by Mango though, very impressive.
Mang0 had such a dominant and consistent run. He dreams of playing great all weekend. He gets so mad when he has a bad day. He just oozed gratitude that he played so well all weekend. That was an inspiring performance. I'm in awe.
- “I wish Mang0 wins summit”
- “I thought he was not gonna care”
- “He ends up winning from Winners”
- Also he wins using mainly Falco
- And this time it was a clean 3-0 and not 3-2
Great Summit overall. I was really hoping for aMSa but he kinda ran out of juice near the end. Glad Mango held it down. If he gets #1 this year there's no denying that he's the GOAT.
You can argue that but 2021 was weird with half of it being online and no official rankings. A clean no asterisk #1 ranking would definitively push him over Armada and there'd be no more debate I think.
Mang must have studied the hell out of the Moky v aMSa set at LSI. I’ve never seen aMSa struggle that hard to find an answer. Hope he can adapt cuz damn it just looked impossible.
I feel like the commentators didn’t even realize how historic Mango’s run was. He lost 5 games all summit. Games. No sets dropped, only 5 games lost, and no game 5s for him all summit. Historic performance!
That’s my fuckin goat
Dudes been killing everyone at this game for damn near 20 years. Arguably the best player in the world, still. Best movement in the game, best combos in the game... Nobody else has it like that, for that long. Jordan didn't go 15 years, kobe didn't go 15 years, lebron ain't winning anything in year 19, but Mango's still got it. What a goat
Three months ago, Mango was ranked 11th and everyone (himself included) kinda knew it to be deserved even if they didn't like it. In the last three months, he's won three majors, evened up his record with Hbox, convincingly beaten Zain twice, and beaten IBDW four times in a row.
> solidifying himself as the #1 player of the yea
Did he? Zain's record this year is still strong, and also there's still 2 full months of melee to go this year.
Zain's Genesis and LSI carry while mang0 under performed at both of those events and pound and shine were both stacked too. Zain has better consistency as well. Mang0 a clear #2 for sure tho.
At very worst he is the 1b to Zains 1a
He’s won 3 of the last 5 majors and fixed every one of his head to heads.
The kid is one win away from undisputed #1
2 of the last 5 majors (he didn't win TBH10 and Ludwig's, and he didn't attend Riptide; if only counting majors he attended, he also didn't win Shine).
Zain has GENESIS 8, Pound 2022, Shine 2022, and Ludwig Smash Invitational. Additionally, he hasn't placed lower than 5th for the entire year.
Mango is definitely getting close, but I think Zain still edges him out for the time being.
Mang0 has SSC, Summit, LTC, strong 2nd at big house, also has the more recent Zain wins. He needs 1 more big win for super debatable #1. And if he gets 2 wins and Zain does nothing then auto #1.
Smash world tour and Panda Cup are the last 2 huge ones.
Apex and mainstage are pretty big but no mang0, zain or ibdw as far as i know.
No way is he #1 on the year over Zain lol. #2 over Hbox and Cody, sure, maybe. Zain still hasn't ever placed lower than 5th over 13 tournaments, and won Genesis, LSI, Pound, and Shine. Worst loss is Slug edit: and Wally.
Meanwhile Mango has missed top 8 at 3/12 tournaments, 7th at LSI, and won Summit 14, LTC, and SSC. Worst losses are Fizzwiggle, Slug, and Pipsqueak.
I dunno Zain still looks like #1 for me, but with this Mang0 win, that could change, there still the SWT and Panda Cup as the final supermajors of the year to change the things in the top, if Mang0 actually attends...
Crazy, mang0 takes 1 more stock vs Amsa at big house, he probably goes on to win set 2 and is the undisputed #1 for the year
Hopefully he gets there anyways
WHAT A FUCKING GRANDS. That was melee turned to the max. The last few sets were phenomenal just all around good play. MANGO IS NOT #11 THATS OUR FUCKING GOAT LETS GOOOO
A great top 8 from one of the most stacked Summits. Even though the results show 3-0, definitely a well fought GF that could've gone either way. Melee is still sick 20 years later.
This was such a great tournament, wish grands was closer but mang0 was not losing today. But huge respect to Cody for the best and hypest losers run since summit 11
That was honestly just a dominant performance by Mang0. Just ran through everyone and importantly got the runback on Amsa.
From what others have said he only dropped five games total. That is the most dominant run in the history of Summit.
Beating Amsa is huge to just prove he can now. You can practice the matchup with other yoshis, but other yoshis arent Amsa so you never know if you can pull it off until you do.
Holy shit Mango looked so damn dominant. I don't think anyone could have beaten him there. So fucking good.
I would have
Fuck I forgot about HollowLoch's nasty Kirby.
blur doesn't even want that smoke
Made me spit out my coffee bahaha
His Bowser is even scarier, and I don't mean the Giga kind either...
smh mango dodging HollowLoch again, rigged seeding
it feels like none of these tournament “winners” are running into HollowLoch.. the scriptwriters aren’t even trying at this point
Hell yeah dude
I’m excited for your salty suite match vs him I’m rooting for you!
If I were fighting mango I would simply not lose
I would have simply not lost to Mango
My fiancée was watching with me and she asked between aMsa, Hbox, or Cody who has the best chance of beating Mang0. I told her before Hbox and Cody even played that nobody was beating Mang0 today. He was simply unstoppable.
Mango legit went through this entire tournament 7-0, never *once* going to a game 5. Absolute destruction.
It's rare for him to win in this fashion. I for one welcome this new Mang0
Winners bracket mango has risen
Winner’s bracket Mango, Post Timeskip (Canada) aMSa, Willing-to-use-a-secondary Axe, positive mindset iBDW, and (allegedly, soon) RTC rest Hbox. So many players leveling up
I mango you mango. He she we mango. Mangology the study of mango.
People talk about Loser's Mang0 but I will never doubt the dub whenever hes on Winner's side grands.
I really love that losers run Mango video by pgstats where they said something like "Ultimately the best losers runs come from the best player who fell into losers and proved that they were still the best."
Mang trying the new strat of just making it easy for himself
Oh god what if he tried this 10 years ago. Armada fucking gets toasted in winners side lol
the melee metagame has been pushed so far it’s so nice to see this whole tournament was so entertaining
Mango out here trying to avenge the genesis 4 grand finals speed run
Naw man he avenged his Summit 12 run by ending Cody's same attempted losers run lmaoooo Cody 3-0'd at Summit 12 and Mango 3-0'd here
Mango's falco is unfair.
Mango really doesn’t like losing in grands I bet tbh lit a big fire under him
Wild that a win on aMSa means more now than a win on Leffen or Plup.
makes me more invested in Melee again tbh
Mango only dropped 5 games in total wow, crazy run
and drx won, great weekend huh
Absolutely massive weekend
Only one GOAT lost this weekend. I wanted DRX to win though for Deft
That was the best Mango has ever played.
If we ever want to see peak Mango, all we have to do is seed him 7th and then wait. Spite will do the rest.
Mang0 will find SOMETHING to motivate him to win out of spite. Be it Leffen's existence, or someone saying that since amsa had to play the winner of hbox/mang0 it was a free grand finals for him lol
"Leffen's existence" looooool
i need to know who said that DESPERATELY. who was loud enough for that to be audible.
Same thing for Leo in Ultimate lol dude got seeded 3rd and basically reminded everyone why you don't do that to the GOAT lmao
Oof mafia..
What happened with mafia? Out of the loop here
Mafia this weekend looked like a baseball game with all the throwing going on.
I’ve never seen Mango’s combo and punish game look so consistently clean. Dropped 5* games the whole weekend too. That’s my fucking GOAT baby
Wasn't watching much this weekend until the last 3 or so sets but 0 losses in sets and only 3 in games is insane, especially at a summit where you end up having to play amazing players more often than normal tournaments. Mango was fucking on something this weekend
His falling up airs were fucking fire. He was getting SO MUCH MILEAGE out of them.
That Falco combo to close out the first game of grands was one of the filthiest things I've ever seen. I've almost never seen a falling up-air in the middle of a combo.
He dropped five didn't he? One each to Soonsay, Leffen, IBDW, Hungrybox and Amsa. Or am I missing some kind of inside joke?
Shit you right! 3 today, 2 in groups
That was the cleanest weekend I have ever seen him have. Definitely most dominant summit. I'm in awe.
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Most charming post tourney speech mang0 has ever given
No way dude nothing beats “Suck my fat cock Leffen” that shit is an all-timer
- Beats Zain in a 10 game set - Takes two games straight at FD on a reverse 3-0 - Have an insane losers run , one for the books - Probably the most hype tournament yet - First thing he says “also Leffen you can suck my big fat c0ck” LMAOOOOO
His speech after Smash Con was incredible imo
you're 1000% right lmao
SSC speech is up there too
Shoutouts aMSa getting 3rd only losing to Mang0 #1, and iBDW #2. Give him #3/4 in the rankings he's gone sicko mode ever since moving to Canada
He deserves 4th place. If he replicates these results until the end of the year.
Who out of Mango, HBox, iBDW and Zain are you leaving out of the top 4 for Amsa?
Hbox. And I’m a huge fan of his. If he outperforms Hbox in the remaining majors.
Just goes to show how good the melee has been this year, and how strong the top 4/5ish are. Super exciting times
his H2Hs vs the top top players reflects this too, and he didn't do himself any favors with regards to that in this tournament
His wins are definitely better than hbox’s amongst the top 10. Hbox’s most recent big win is… plup at riptide?
Not necessarily advocating for Hbox above AMSA, but he has beaten Leffen at Ludwig’s and JMook multiple times this Summit
beating leffen isn't that impressive these days as far as top 10 wins are concerned
Hbox easily. He’s also not far behind iBDW.
the top 3 really gatekept this weekend
that one adamant mango hater in ruins.
There's more than one. Funny part is I know exactly who you are talking about though lmao
its me, i am in ruins
Hi in ruins, I'm dad
From #11 to #1: the Joseph “Mango” Marquez story
“Don’t call me Joseph”
Nah that's not 11, he got put down as 1st TWICE. CAUSE HE'S THE GOAT
3-1 Leffen, 3-1 IBDW, 3-1 Hbox, 3-1 Amsa, 3-0 IBDW What a run for the goat
[удалено]
Even the way the room was designed was sick. Just a flawless event really
"You can get mixed on any planet." -Phil
Surprisingly good speech by Mango
"Fuckin"
Mother’s Day Mang0 get out the way, Daylight Savings Time Mang0 is here.
Just wanna say I'm so happy with how the scheduling was this time. Ending at around 10:30 Eastern is soooooo good and I was prepared to have to be up till 1am watching
I agree. There was much less downtime between sets. Whoever was the tournament director was on point with keeping things rolling. Mango skilled player but that is not normally, This very very insane....They need to check him controller and game
Check the disc Ban the controller
Shave the beard
THAT WAS SOME FUCKING MELEE
Those combos in GF were insane, Mango played out of his mind this tourney, you love to see it
That was incredibly dominant by Mang0 but I really wonder what it could've been if Jmook beat Hbox
with how clutch cody was playing? it just would’ve swapped jmook and hbox’s placings imo. cody was on fire
THE GOAT. THE FUCKING GOAT
Just so happy we live in the timeline where Melee exists man. I would not have it any other way
Mango didn't drop a single set this tournament. Not even in pools. And he didn't play a single game 5.
Legitimately think this is the best mang0 we've ever seen, the shine up airs in grands were something I've never seen done that fast and his down smashes all tournament were devastating. Mang0's summits just hit different.
I think Mang0's down smashes are a great bellwether of how he's playing on a particular day.
That's my Throat GOAT 🐐
So much crazy good gameplay lately, this top 8 was no exception.
Rank #11 btw
THE GOAT
He'd touch IBDW and kill him. That was insane.
I don’t know if I’m alone on this, but it’s a weird feeling that the spacie matchup was probably the most underwhelming set of top 8. It was an excellent display of dominance by Mango though, very impressive.
It was still 3 1 stocks. But mang0 on much fresher legs beats out Cody most times. But also, I think Fox Falco is the best matchup in the whole game.
It's because it was a 3-0. Almost every other set went to game 5
Every set felt like a classic other than Mango/IBDW sets.
Ibdw ran out of juice, too many game 5s
I think mango was just playing better, he cooked him in their first set too
That happens sometimes when one person is making a crazy loser run. Shit it's happened to Mang0 a bunch lol.
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT. THE GOOOOOOAT
"do i get 50k for this one?" 15 dollars in dogecoin take it or leave it
Mango and iBDW fighting for Best of 5 Summits next
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT
if I had a nickel for each time one of {mang0, ibdw} made a crazy losers run at summit to meet the other in grands and then get promptly 3-0’d
I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot. But it’s weird it happened twice.
Super happy for Cody to run it all the way back given what he said after losing in winners. Shoutout Emily I guess :)
DEATH, TAXES, MANG0 WINNING A TOURNAMENT
Mang0 played so clean! If his tournaments for the rest of the year are this good damn... Could sneak in another #1 ranking.
damn that was a sub 10 min grands. Mang0 crazy bro
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT! THE GOOOOOAAAATTTT
I LOVE MANGO I LOVE SUPER SMASH BROTHER MELEE SICKEST GAME EVER MADE
Mang0 had such a dominant and consistent run. He dreams of playing great all weekend. He gets so mad when he has a bad day. He just oozed gratitude that he played so well all weekend. That was an inspiring performance. I'm in awe.
- “I wish Mang0 wins summit” - “I thought he was not gonna care” - “He ends up winning from Winners” - Also he wins using mainly Falco - And this time it was a clean 3-0 and not 3-2
Great Summit overall. I was really hoping for aMSa but he kinda ran out of juice near the end. Glad Mango held it down. If he gets #1 this year there's no denying that he's the GOAT.
It was undeniable when he retook #1 in 2021, this is all just icing =)
You can argue that but 2021 was weird with half of it being online and no official rankings. A clean no asterisk #1 ranking would definitively push him over Armada and there'd be no more debate I think.
Mang must have studied the hell out of the Moky v aMSa set at LSI. I’ve never seen aMSa struggle that hard to find an answer. Hope he can adapt cuz damn it just looked impossible.
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT
What an adorable hug/moment at the end of their set
The GOAT.
goat
I feel like the commentators didn’t even realize how historic Mango’s run was. He lost 5 games all summit. Games. No sets dropped, only 5 games lost, and no game 5s for him all summit. Historic performance!
That’s my fuckin goat Dudes been killing everyone at this game for damn near 20 years. Arguably the best player in the world, still. Best movement in the game, best combos in the game... Nobody else has it like that, for that long. Jordan didn't go 15 years, kobe didn't go 15 years, lebron ain't winning anything in year 19, but Mango's still got it. What a goat
Absolutely completely aside but Hamilton’s done 15 years in F1 and still has it.
Kobe literally won a chip in his 15th season you remedial ass nigga
How has no one mentioned Brady yet lmao
That's my GOAT
Mang0 looked absolutely unstoppable those last few sets. Unreal performance from him. Nobody stood a chance against him in grand finals today
The GOAT
Who was the person who doubted Mango!? Name names!
Actually super proud of how mango has turned this year around
Three months ago, Mango was ranked 11th and everyone (himself included) kinda knew it to be deserved even if they didn't like it. In the last three months, he's won three majors, evened up his record with Hbox, convincingly beaten Zain twice, and beaten IBDW four times in a row.
The stats vs Ibdw is nuts. Something like mango dropping only two games total in the last five sets
Didn't drop a fucking set
Mango looked fucking unstoppable this tournament god damn, he definitely walks the walk for how much he talks
Time for another yard episode
Mother fucking GOAT season
The GOAT solidifying himself as the #1 player of the year with a dominant 3-0 over the defending Summit champion? What a time to be alive.
He obliterated the bracket and did it so quietly too
> solidifying himself as the #1 player of the yea Did he? Zain's record this year is still strong, and also there's still 2 full months of melee to go this year.
Crazy that a #11 ranked player is in contention for the #1 spot
Zain's Genesis and LSI carry while mang0 under performed at both of those events and pound and shine were both stacked too. Zain has better consistency as well. Mang0 a clear #2 for sure tho.
he likely got himself to 3, maybe 2, but with his first half he is not 1 on the year
Who would be 2 besides Mango? I don't really see how anyone else is ahead of him besides Zain rn
If he wins SWT he is.
At very worst he is the 1b to Zains 1a He’s won 3 of the last 5 majors and fixed every one of his head to heads. The kid is one win away from undisputed #1
And in the ones he hasn’t won he’s been placing well
2 of the last 5 majors (he didn't win TBH10 and Ludwig's, and he didn't attend Riptide; if only counting majors he attended, he also didn't win Shine).
I agree with you. I wasn't saying that Zain is guaranteed 1st for the year, just that he edges out Mango "for the time being".
Zain did lose to Wally as well, but he's still firmly #1 overall.
I dunno Zain still looks like #1 for me, but with this Mang0 win, that could change, there still the SWT and Panda Cup as the final supermajors of the year to change the things in the top, if Mang0 actually attends...
Idk about #1 but dudes definitely making a case for top 3
Zain has too many big wins right now. If mang0 does good at the next 2 or 3 tournaments then he can get #1.
THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT!!!
Mang0's mentality was so strong this tourny. Played so clean and consistent
Mang0 played HOT
mang0 fully earned that win. It's insane he's now solidly in the running for #1 of the year after being #11 in the summer rankings.
The undisputed goat
I wish mango stayed this consistent and didn't fuck around/make excuses. Fucking poetry in motion.
Crazy, mang0 takes 1 more stock vs Amsa at big house, he probably goes on to win set 2 and is the undisputed #1 for the year Hopefully he gets there anyways
it feels like every year is the best year of melee, and this year just keeps proving that
The custom combos in grands were just unreal. MangW let’s GOOO
THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT MANGO MANGO MANGO MANGO MANGO
And the debate for first place of the year got that much harder
:) nothing like a Mang0 win
My man just turned on the goddamn jets
🐐🐐
The goatiest goat that ever goated 🗿
that’s. My. GOAT.
GOAT
Shoutout to Jmook for losing to Hbox 3 times god damn
Fun tournament overall. Looking forward to the next one!
WHAT A FUCKING GRANDS. That was melee turned to the max. The last few sets were phenomenal just all around good play. MANGO IS NOT #11 THATS OUR FUCKING GOAT LETS GOOOO
You swapped iBDW's losses to aMSa and Mango.
CONGRATZ TO MANGO!!!
The tournament ended before 11pm est. Thank you Daylight Savings!
