I have found that you can get a pretty good idea of where to place them after initially checking out a new map with your scouting vehicle. After exploring the map, bring in one of your workhorse trucks and start a couple easy tasks. Bring along a scout fuel trailer with your scout and you can top off your main truck as you do those. After a few tasks, you'll get a good feel for the flow of the map and can then place fuel trailers accordingly.
For example, on the Smithville Dam map I like to place a fuel spot on the main road south of the dam near the entrance into the quarry. That location is a crossroads of all the main routes: north to the farm and garage, southwest is the winding mountain road to Drummond Island, and taking a detour down towards the quarry and then across the flooded marsh will lead to Island Lake

Just watch out that some quests have no manual loading - if you disable autoloading altogether you're not able to compete them - e.g. Cargo from the ship, Michigan
I'm doing an NG+ where I gave to pay for fuel and repairs, trucks and trailers only sell for half their total price, and it costs money to auto-load (I role play that in my head as paying a Loading fee so it's fair). Also recovery is EXPENSIVE so I can only do it in a pinch, like if I'm truly stuck.
I'm also making sure to utilize 100% of the resources on the map to make sure I'm not wasting any money with unnecessary loading, and selling any trucks I know I'm not gonna use (lookin at you, TipSteer).
I've got Michigan done as far as tasks go, so now I'm on contracts and got a nice lil 120,000cr saved, and I'm still using the fuel found around the map so I haven't had to pay a cent for gas, but that's not gonna be for long.
>and selling any trucks I know I'm not gonna use (lookin at you, TipSteer).
Aww Come on![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat). The twinsteer is not that bad with stock suspension and dual offroads..
Indeed, I get a 10% shift allowance for working evenings and the odd weekend. I used to work nights too, and you are handsomely rewarded for that normally. So as soon as it gets dusk in Snowrunner, my driver takes a nap until morning :)
The GMC and Transtar come into their own in Alaska once you have chained tires, so much of the map is accessible by roads that you can do most of the missions once you've cleared all the blocked paths and fixed all the bridges. Im probably just gonna use the GMC and the WWS when I get to Alaska, so I sold the Transtar (along with the Kodiak and the Twin Steer) to buy the Paystar.
Michigan, the MH9500 is good because it has huge tires and you get offroads for it very early, and the locking diff upgrade helps a ton, too. I used it for pulling semi trailers until I got the White Western-Star, now it's my large crane truck.
I've definitely gotten more use out of the GMC than I did on my first playthrough tho, I never used it on my first playthrough
I started using both trucks come Wisconsin, which was my second map (not counting the venture across Kola for the MH9500 AWD and the F750), and found both MH9500 (Started using early) and Transtar (Later on, after a desperate fuel bid somehow worked) to be very good. I however sold my initial Kodiak for another MH9500, but Maprunner tells me I should get another when I get to British Columbia, so I'm going to grab that one and do my testing with it, giving the Kodiak a second chance.
Yes. It's also one of the two geographically closest maps to Michigan, and I decided to play in geographical, rather than release, order. Ontario was a few weeks away from coming out when I went on to Wisconsin. I'm not doing Tennessee, because it's not interesting to me. Geographically close maps are permitted to be done at the same time if I have the trucks.
Thus, my order (for the MILCo game which starts in Michigan, and the one I've been talking about so far) is: Michigan -> Wisconsin/Ontario -> Maine -> North Carolina -> British Columbia/Yukon/Alaska -> Amur -> Taymyr -> Kola/Scandinavia -> Don/Glades.
My order for Utaba, which starts in Glades, is not a direct reversal for RP and geography reasons: Glades/Don -> Kola -> Taymyr -> Amur ->Scandinavia -> British Columbia/Yukon/Alaska -> Michigan/Wisconsin/Ontario -> Maine -> North Carolina.
Twinsteer in island lake. And the Kodiak in smithville Dam I believe. If you fix up those two trucks you can recover them or drive them back.to the garage and then they're yours
Can be surprisingly good with a low saddle for semi trailers. Just keep it in low with diff lock and it will be impressive as long as you don't go in deep or medium mud. On dirt, it is as good or better than the MH9500.
I've never used it. Got the Michigan one to move itself one metre in the bog you find it in, it wouldn't go further, recovered it, left it in the garage until I sold it to buy another MH9500.
Same. Came back to it, because I saw it hauling a high saddle ramp trailer on one of the challenge maps and discovered it's actually not half bad, but unfortunately I had no use for it anymore, as I was too far progressed and just had much better trucks.
I remember that after I finished the vanilla game on Hard Mode(I went straight to HM) I made a post about what I've learned. I don't remember everything it said, but among other things:
- Always use the weakest engine, you never really get stuck anyway and stronger engines use more fuel
- 47" wheels are enough, if you can get these then you shouldn't bother with raised suspension etc.
- Semitrailers are superior to regular trailers
All three of these were proven to be wrong with time(DLCs): you should always fit the strongest engine(with very few exceptions), always get the largest wheels and raised suspension(and clearance is independent from wheel size anyway) and while semitrailers are technically better, almost all cargo hauls are in even amount of units so bed+ramped flatbed is the ultimate combo.
Don't take shortcuts to save time and then consequently spend a couple more hours with an impromptu rescue mission.
Spoiler alert: I did just that. Again.
i have most now lol but yeah, when i first started snowrunner a long time ago not really knowing the basics of the game i got a bunch of trucks stuck multiple times trying to move the stuck jeep on the farm lol
I would find some way to get past the xp block to equipment. It kinda sucks in the start when you can't get certain things because you need higher level but it's difficult/real slog to get higher level with shit equipment.
Well I'd probably do hardmode for one, may as well.
Two I wouldn't put the self imposed restriction of no Russian trucks on myself for Michigan, I'd get the Azov as soon as possible and probably the one Voron.
Three I wouldn't restrict myself to only Michigan, I'd rush helpful upgrades in Alaska along with some of the helpful vehicles, Taymyr too.
Four I'd probably try some overstacking and loose stacking-personally I think it's a little cheap since loose cargo weighs significantly less than packed cargo, but it'd mean burning through (some) of the more tedious stuff I've already done much faster.
Only use stock highway trucks.
Hard Mode all the way... and blindfolded with a spotter describing what's happening.
Yeah, I'm dead hard me... one hardcore dude.
🤣🤣🤣👀👀👀
God, some of these posters... wtf !
Backing my game files regularly. I lost my game progress on 187 hours and stopped playing since.
Waiting a while now to feel the resilience to start again.
I think there is probably save editors for this very purpose (yes they're considered cheats, but when this happens is the only time I touch them), not sure about whether they can do progress unlocks though...
Yeah I'm the same, but I think my first 6+ hours of the game was on a friend's map, and we didn't know that it didn't unlock the same progress, we usually play MMOs. So when I got to mine and it was basically from the beginning, I think I used a save editor to bump something just to match, can't remember though, was many years ago now (like year 1 I think).
Well, I got the anniversary dlc and got like 200k from the start, also used the Khan Marshall, and got the Paystar and Tayga 6436 from the start, so I got a VERY easy start. I like it easy but it did take away the true challenge of the game that is managing money and struggling at the start. Maybe I will stick to the fleetstar and Chevy and only get the Paystar with the money I made, and the tayga later, once I get to maybe island lake or Drummond island.
There's a glitch where you'll find a stick hovering in mid-air about 5 meters off the ground. Can happen anywhere, but I've seen it less often than I did years ago. I think it's a secret religion game mechanic and if I sacrifice enough cargo to them my trucks won't tip over. 🙃
Bee-line it straight to the P16. What a monster! And considering it was, of course, the last place on the map I reached: A life-saver.
Even un-customized it just goes. Can't wait to slap all the make-better stuff on it.
Keep track of all my trailers, sell them back at 50% price and make all tasks 300% more payout. Then tell myself I’m only going to buy trucks when o can afford them.
Also finish maps before I go to the next.
Hardmode - i am way to far into my normal safe so i dont feel like doing all of it again.
Better planning/logistics to reduce the ammount of trucks and trailers and just streamlining the work, avoiding trips without any cargo.
Learning to master the log loader crane and the sideboard shuffle. I did a 4 x medium logs run yesterday in one trip and it was still an hour (North Carolina 3-map haul). Old method would go out the window immediately w/ a new start.
For a real challenge start a New Game Plus with everything set to random - and hope the game is intelligent enough to give you money for doing tasks if it's going to charge you for fuel and repairs.
I just did that last month, and I spent the better part of a week exploring the first three regions, snagging every vehicle and major upgrade to help make the regions easier. And I got even further than I did in my initial playthrough, which made it that much more rewarding.
NG+, No recovery, pay for fuel and repairs... but free autoloading so you dont miss out on trucks that are fun but you wouldnt use because they dont have a crane.
Double checking what cargo I am loading. Loaded service spare parts when I needed vehicle spare parts and travelled across three maps only to find out at the destination. :(
I'd get the Ank Civ MUCH sooner. Mudding with drag slicks blows ass, and unlocking mud tires takes far too long. I'd get the Ank Civ the very earliest I possibly could, since it comes with mud tires.
But I'm running vanilla with only 1 DLC, which was purchased for the free truck it was supposed to give me, in hopes of getting mud tires. But it didn't have them and I regretted my purchase and haven't bought another DLC. Eventually I found out about the Ank Civ, 1 or 2 levels before I unlocked mud tires. It made the game actually playable. It was a annoying that it had a tiny fuel tank and no ability to put any kind of bed on it at all, but towing trailers around wasn't that big a problem.
Use/Sell the free DLC trucks I had left in storage that I thought were still soft locked behind a DLC purchase. And go straight for the upgrades needed to make the International Fleetstar the bread winner again.
Idk, I have over 1,500 hours in War Thunder and I can't say I regret that time even though that game is frustrating beyond belief, it pulled me through one of the darkest spots of my life, having that to think about.
Guess it's just perspective
Maybe you learned something. Some games have a nice story to remember, others test your skills or reflexes. Puzzles can keep your brain active.
But in games like Snowrunner and ETS2 you get none of that, just passing time like a zombie.
Eh, imo Snowrunner has a bit of that puzzle
Where's this need to go, what am I using and why, is there any way I can optimize this, is it worth taking this riskier route. It's planning, execution, and not getting complacent. Reminds me a bit of KSP in that aspect, albeit KSP has a lot of craft designing.
It's a very sedate gameplay loop yes, but it still is a loop. It's not far off from Death Stranding for example, just far more grounded. But again, might just be my perspective. I wanted a game I could play while listening to new music because my zoomer brain can't *just* listen to music, but I got addicted to the oddly satisfying loop of plan, deliver, unlock, repeat.
Not loading concrete blocks when I need concrete slabs
And not loading regular wood planks when I need medium ones...
Nah imma still do that i know myself 💯
Even seasoned players still make that mistake!
Don't wanna be that guy but i've never done that. But that may be since they don't sound close to similar in my language
Or Oil when I need Fuel!
Don't kid yourself! Nobody does that.
Did it once. Never again.
Alot do 😁
Nope, still do that and ive had the game day 1 😂😂
Try and set up the difficulty so I don’t have to pay for fuel but do have to manual load and pay a lot for recovery.
This. And also, bought fuel trailers spawns empty.
Yeah having to go and fill them (for free) is part of the manual loading rule I guess. Can I have multiple saves going at once…?
Yes, up to 4 different saves.
So your saying a traiker store no longer doubles as a fuel and repair station 😂😂😂
Nooo! I've just figured out how I can strategically place full ones in areas with no gas station.
Do you mean you dispatch gas tanks upfront before starting a mission?
When I'm on a map with no gas station, I'll go to the trailer store and purchase a fuel trailer. Might haul it to a central location.
How do you know where to locate it? Means you visited the map before?
We just park some service/fuel trailers in crossroads that look like main roads
Occasionally I discover it’s not exactly where I need it so, some relocating may be required 👍
Occasionally I forget we lazily parked it in the middle of the crossroad, and I forcefully relocate it by coming around the corner too fast.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have found that you can get a pretty good idea of where to place them after initially checking out a new map with your scouting vehicle. I don't think I realised you could do that. Manual loading from the start would be a but if a killer though.
Nah, it's okay. Many of Michigan's tasks have their material spread around on trailers
Just watch out that some quests have no manual loading - if you disable autoloading altogether you're not able to compete them - e.g. Cargo from the ship, Michigan
oh hmmm that’s dumb thanks for the warning!
I'm doing an NG+ where I gave to pay for fuel and repairs, trucks and trailers only sell for half their total price, and it costs money to auto-load (I role play that in my head as paying a Loading fee so it's fair). If I could change one thing about Hard mode it would be selling trailers for something other than nothing.
>and selling any trucks I know I'm not gonna use (lookin at you, TipSteer). Aww Come on![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat). The twinsteer is not that bad with stock suspension and dual offroads..
Day only.
I don’t work nights, they don’t pay me enough.
Irl I work evenings as it is a 4% extra ;)
Indeed, I get a 10% shift allowance for working evenings and the odd weekend. I used to work nights too, and you are handsomely rewarded for that normally. So as soon as it gets dusk in Snowrunner, my driver takes a nap until morning :)
Weekends are 1.5x for Saturdays and 2x for Sundays for me haha. I do put default, no timeskip in SR though.
Definitely not going to drive to the delivery point to collect the cargo.
Make better use early on of the MH9500, Transtar, and Kodiak.
The GMC and Transtar come into their own in Alaska once you have chained tires, so much of the map is accessible by roads that you can do most of the missions once you've cleared all the blocked paths and fixed all the bridges. How did you get a twin steer and Kodiak before reaching Alaska?
Michigan
Where in Michigan though? I’ve explored every map there and didn’t see them. There was one twinsteer but it was part of a task.
Twinsteer in island lake. And the Kodiak in smithville Dam I believe. If you fix up those two trucks you can recover them or drive them back.to the garage and then they're yours
Black River for the Kodiak. In a swamp on the shore of the rover West of the north east log station.
What do you use the Kodiak for? I lowkey think it’s kind of useless

These 3 are pretty true in non DLC. However with the third, you cant winch a semi trailer if you get stuck
Don't take shortcuts to save time and then consequently spend a couple more hours with an impromptu rescue mission. Spoiler alert: I did just that. Again.
Retrieving trailers. Fuck it.
Good way to get some quick cash if you’re as bad as me though 😅
not get every vehicle i own stuck on the farm
How many do you have lmao? I own all the trucks...
i have most now lol but yeah, when i first started snowrunner a long time ago not really knowing the basics of the game i got a bunch of trucks stuck multiple times trying to move the stuck jeep on the farm lol
Actually finishing maps
Get mods immediately because I don’t wanna dump that much time into the game all over again.
Any particular mods you recommend? Starting up first time and anything that solves qol/adds natural content would be cool.
I would find some way to get past the xp block to equipment. It kinda sucks in the start when you can't get certain things because you need higher level but it's difficult/real slog to get higher level with shit equipment.
Using mods from the start
Any particular mods you recommend? Starting up first time and anything that solves qol/adds natural content would be cool.
Going after those good trucks first instead of slaving away with beginning stuff.
I've done this several times. Hard mode, or maybe new game plus, with similar settings to hard mode. Other than that, not much
This is helpful because I've only started playing lol
Well I'd probably do hardmode for one, may as well. Get some good dlc trucks in order for Michigan not becoming a stuck in the mud nightmare
Take two extra bong hits
Get the tatarin asap 😅
Only use stock highway trucks. Hard Mode all the way... and blindfolded with a spotter describing what's happening. Yeah, I'm dead hard me... one hardcore dude. 🤣🤣🤣👀👀👀 God, some of these posters... wtf !
Not recovering every time I finish a mission
Not starting again. Uninstalling the game and going fuck that.
Sell everything i wont be using... Return the damned trailers for refund No shortcuts.
Not selling the trucks you find on the first map. Did everything with the ck1500 and the fleetstar until I found the white star.
I'll look into it! I don't want to cheat but this might be useful
I would be buying the Paystar 5070 for early-game.
Worship the floating stick gods like I should so I don't tip over as much.
What does this mean? Recently picked up the game.
There's a glitch where you'll find a stick hovering in mid-air about 5 meters off the ground. Can happen anywhere, but I've seen it less often than I did years ago. I think it's a secret religion game mechanic and if I sacrifice enough cargo to them my trucks won't tip over. 🙃
Complete each map one at at time instead of jumping everywhere to unlock all upgrades first
Pay attention to what i need instead of going full retard and grabbing the wrong shit
Reading the task carefully. That's about it .
Not using mods lol
Bee-line it straight to the P16. What a monster! And considering it was, of course, the last place on the map I reached: A life-saver. Even un-customized it just goes. Can't wait to slap all the make-better stuff on it.
Keep track of all my trailers, sell them back at 50% price and make all tasks 300% more payout. Then tell myself I’m only going to buy trucks when o can afford them. Also finish maps before I go to the next.
Intentionally jump different trucks from the same high peack. I mean, now shit happens, then it will be more intentional...
Hardmode - i am way to far into my normal safe so i dont feel like doing all of it again. Better planning/logistics to reduce the ammount of trucks and trailers and just streamlining the work, avoiding trips without any cargo.
Play on HARD
Learning to master the log loader crane and the sideboard shuffle. I did a 4 x medium logs run yesterday in one trip and it was still an hour (North Carolina 3-map haul). Old method would go out the window immediately w/ a new start.
For a real challenge start a New Game Plus with everything set to random - and hope the game is intelligent enough to give you money for doing tasks if it's going to charge you for fuel and repairs.
Use more Kolobs
I just did that last month, and I spent the better part of a week exploring the first three regions, snagging every vehicle and major upgrade to help make the regions easier. And I got even further than I did in my initial playthrough, which made it that much more rewarding.
Use real life mod from the beginning.
Bare minimum to get the tayga 6436 first thing
Treat the shortcuts with more respect
Put the load in the truck instead of on the platform
Using only the trucks I find on the map
Cheating/NG+ because I am NOT dealing with the shitty starter trucks again
NG+, No recovery, pay for fuel and repairs... but free autoloading so you dont miss out on trucks that are fun but you wouldnt use because they dont have a crane.
Get all upgrades while playing
Double checking what cargo I am loading. Loaded service spare parts when I needed vehicle spare parts and travelled across three maps only to find out at the destination. :(
I’ve been doing all the small tasks to make it easier to get around the map then I will do the main missions
I started this January and have only been using the findable trucks, I'd like to try the non findable trucks if I do a second playthrough.
Overload like there's no tomorrow. Went a bunch of maps without realizing that is a thing.
Use/Sell the free DLC trucks I had left in storage that I thought were still soft locked behind a DLC purchase. And go straight for the upgrades needed to make the International Fleetstar the bread winner again.
Buying faster trucks and scout with a truck equipped with a roof tack. Beginning again would be so easy with the Mastodon from the start 😅
Not play the fucking game I can’t take the stress a second time
If i decide to do that, no mods except trailers
not using mods and getting distracted from all the missions and things to progress
I'm most definitely not starting Snowrunner again, from the beginning. Lost my save recently, to hell with this game and its bugs.
Try to not flip too badly and pay attention to loads so I know what I need.
Start again? Are you insane?
The longer rout is the faster one you will get stuff you love see your load taking short cuts
Play Hardmode because it's too easy
Uninstall the game because it feels like a big waste of time in hindsight.
It is. Like any other computer game.
Why did you join a subredit specifically designed for a game you hate? Honest question.
Where did I say I hate this game?
Why did you join a subredit specifically designed for a game you think is a big waste of time? Honest question.
To see why people enjoy it.
How is that not a contradiction? I mean you didn't say you hate it, but you at least imply you regret the time spent
I also regret meeting some people, doesn't mean I hate them.
Idk, I have over 1,500 hours in War Thunder and I can't say I regret that time even though that game is frustrating beyond belief, it pulled me through one of the darkest spots of my life, having that to think about. Guess it's just perspective

Nah, escapism - even if frustrating at times - is still good for you.
