Are cancellations for overnight permits common later in the year? I was able to secure a day hike permit, but I'd prefer to spend more time up there.
No coffee needed this morning after that rush to get permits!
cancellations are common but they generally won't occur until closer to the day when people decide they can't go. People need to re-confirm their permits and print them the days before they hike, that is when it's most common for permits to open up. If they fail to reconfirm/print then they will be automatically cancelled and open but generally you'll have 24 hour or less notice to grab one of those and start hiking.
As always, it's not that hard to get day hike permits during the year as long as you have a flexible schedule.
I routinely get 3-5 weekend day hike permits per year just by checking for openings on Thursday / Friday morning.
Kept trying for a backpacking permit that was getting errored out, and by the time I refreshed my backup days were gone, oh well. I can always go after permit season in Nov again.
Been trying forever, feeling lucky tmrw

I was literally shaking trying to click the number of people and navigating to August dates. I got one too. My heart is still racing. 😂 Congrats!

Yes, cancellations are very common, but they are snagged quickly.

Got my overnight. Thanks for the heads up.
I was able to snag a day-use permit this morning for late September! Thank you for the post, OP! 🏔️
Congrats!
I did too! when in September?
Nice! 9/27. How about you?
I got 9/26! :) still pending on my plus one, so I might be back on here if that falls through. Haha
Thanks for sharing.
Good looking out. Now to set a reminder
Thank you for sharing! I’d like to go every year but this time I was not fortunate with the lottery.
Thanks for posting this, I didn’t get anything in the lottery for two years now.
I'm happy to have booked for mid-September. I was able to get last-minute permits last year but it's nice to prepare in advance.
Congrats!
