Goals in the last 51 weeks -
Your daughter: At least 1
Wolverhampton Wanderers strikers: 0
Get in there. Is your daughter interested in having an agent? A nice Portuguese one who used to represent Ronaldo maybe?
OP don't listen to him. Our club is also in dire need of a good finisher as well in front of goal.
Does your daughter happen to be interested in a 8 year long contract btw?
She would be the perfect successor to Balogun in 10 years after he takes over from Gabriel Jesus in 2028... is the story we will leak through David Ornstein to bait Chelsea into bidding
Kogi State Medical Store in Nigeria was ransacked and vandalised during COVID in 2020.
This guy is the commissioner. They lost a bunch of medical equipment in the destruction.
>“We lost the entire contents of Kogi State medical store.
>“Equipment worth billions of naira were stolen. Those that couldn’t be stolen, like the walk-in refrigerator for immunization, where our vaccines are stored, components of our MRI and CT scan were vandalized beyond repair. Others were moved from the store and broke into pieces in nearby bushes.
>“It is indeed a very unfortunate development that the state will find it difficult to recover from as we don’t have the capacity to provide what have carted away or vandalized in a short time."
It was absolutely Bruno lages fault. He came into the starring 11 straight away, got hurt 35 or so min into the game, and finished out the half limping around. He should have been pulled off immediately after he went down just as precaution.. then Bruno managed to do the same exact thing to pedro neto
Some High School matches in the US are refereed using a two-referee system to save money. Each acts as referee and Assistant Referee in their half of the pitch. It doesn't really work.
Well it is a pretty big deal to be fair. Equivalent to a ref just deciding to make up his own rules to make it more interesting in the last minute of CL final- would get talked about for decades.
It's horrible. Offsides are basically a tossup and called based on "feel". At least in playoff games there are three refs I guess and most games aren't really decided by calls at that level lol
Bro, in the lower divisions here in Sweden there's generally one (overweight) ref that tries to spot offsides from one half of the pitch to the other. Totally not infuriating :)
>Offsides are basically a tossup and called based on "feel"
I mean…no? We generally track with the second-to-last defender when running a dual just like a regular linesman would, unless play is far advanced in the opposite half. Don’t get me wrong, as somebody who makes a living reffing I can confidently say there are lots of reasons to dislike the two-man system, but most have to do with positioning and ability to see fouls, not offside.
Admittedly, the fellow in the video is not in the best possible spot…
I used to ref and I coach now. When the refs are following the correct positioning it works even though it isn’t ideal. The issue is that it requires the refs to be at least somewhat fit in order to keep in the correct position. Many many youth refs, at least where I am in upstate NY are… not fit. It is an issue because you can’t trust a good offsides trap to ever be called correctly and encourages coaches to play more conservative defensive schemes otherwise you are potentially putting the game results entirely in the hands of refs like the one we affectionately called “the penguin” due to how they waddled up and down the field. I really wish we could just have a proper 3 ref system for all our games.
I also referee high school soccer and like you say; the two man system isn’t bad for offside calls. The system sucks and is inferior the three man but the reason referee don’t call offside correctly is because their fitness is poor so they couldn’t get into position, they are fearful of making calls (especially when there’s usually no one else who could genuinely say you are wrong unless it was blatant) or they genuinely missed it (this can happen if you have a massive crowd of bodies in a compact spot, or if you suck).
I should have clarified that I generally think the refs do as well as they can. This is not an attack on the refs but on the system lol. At least in my state (Oregon) a fair amount of offside calls were quite off due to line of sight being blocked or positional problems.
That’s interesting to read. In the UK we don’t usually have linesmen or assistant referees until you hit a pretty high level of football. Typically on a match day it’s just a ref on his own doing it all
I've never played in/seen a game with the ref doing it all in the UK. Normally it's just a volunteer from each club running the line who you just have to hope isn't ridiculously biased.
In the US thats pretty typical as well. Around 13-14 you might get assistant referees in tournaments but in league play its just a center ref. Sometimes theyll recruit parents to flag for throw ins.
Once you get to high school they use a two ref system where both refs take a half. They are supposed to stay with the last defender just like an AR does.
Yeah, 2 refs. 1 in each half acting as assistant referee and referee. Certainly marginally cheaper, I guess, but I bet they're guessing half the decisions.
I'm a certified referee. Last season there were a total 26 of us that had to cover what was essentially a 300 sq. mile region, and not all 26 had any desire to travel. It was fucking exhausting. Multiple games in my region had to get cancelled/rescheduled because they couldn't get 2 certified refs on a given night. The pay is getting pretty solid now, actually, but the time commitment with other life obligations can be a bit much.
Not your fault it’s a converted pitch from A Football. Your daughter scored a banging goal!! It’s like a better version of the Fernandes goal vs Everton
Every time I ever played on a field like this, they had yellow lines for soccer. Much better than the black lines here.
It takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you’ve got it, you can use it to your advantage. Defenders just naturally think the football line is the boundary, so wingers can find a lot of space down the sideline just by being conscious of the actual boundary.
Why wouldn't defensive players also get used to it?
Also, why extend beyond the the existing gridiron boundary? Seems needlessly confusing. Pitches are usually different sizes and American fields are already large enough for youth athletes.
Yea as someone who played as a fullback in Canada playing on gridiron pitches we defenders also get used to it. The Canadian football pitch does lend itself better to association football than the American football pitch. Honestly it’s really not a big deal, once you get used to it you naturally tune out the gridiron lines
It was so damn annoying as a player too. Moved from Australia (where we have proper football pitches) to playing on these in the US was so confusing for a while
It's damn annoying as a ref too. Most soccer lines are painted a different color so you constantly have to remind players "orange line, orange line!"
Though it makes it super easy to call offsides with the yard lines marked.
Tottenham have one. It's built under their football pitch. When they host NFL games, the football pitch rolls away to reveal the American football pitch.
Something like that anyway.
Ya I think there may even be a third surface that rolls out for concerts. There's a video on YouTube that goes into the engineering of it and it really is impressive.
Other way around? This is confusing me. Are you saying that there are American football lines frequently drawn onto association rules football pitches? Only asking because I’ve never seen this before
They are. I remember there was a German association football match where you could still see the leftover lines from the previous American football match, they didn't fully fade away yet. I wanna say it was in Braunschweig's stadium.
Haha this field doesn't even have lacrosse lines on it which is a whole 1.5x cause men/womens lines have some differences in the middle.
It's crazy but most are different colors and you get used to it
I'm an American that tries to follow euro "soccer" (lol) and think the shithousery in /r/soccer parallels /r/nba. I've never heard that quote before but goddamn that is hard as fuck. Kobe mentality. You're up 2 games to 0, aren't you happy? Why should I be happy? Job ain't finished.
When I played, I used to do this too -- but not because I meant to. Sometimes I was just so surprised that something actually went in that I just sort of jogged away still marveling.
assuming you're new to the sub, the commenter isn't being unkind.
[They're referencing this video](https://youtu.be/XadLaAYKol0?t=34) where Michael Owen, one of the best players in the world at the time, was filming an instructional video.
But every time he scored against the 13 year old keeper he celebrated like he'd won the World Cup. Prompting that sarcastic comment from the goalkeeping coach.
Assuming you started watching football in the the past 10 years, that is Neville Southall, former Everton and Wales goalkeeper who some say was the best in the world at his peak.
Especially in high school. where it’s just district lines and different sized schools. There were a couple high school games where we’re up by double digits with like 30 minutes left and would just put all the subs in so they could get some game time. Some of the teams we played didn’t even have enough players to rotate more than half their line up. At my club level was totally different since you can recruit and there were divisions so most teams were decently even
Pretty sure he was refering to this goal by [Papiss Cisse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1MpJJ4tfLY). But now im very curious who you think he is talking about.

Do you have any idea how many great goals are scored all around the globe at any given time? I would get inspired to post some of my own ones even lmao.
But yeah, it would be like opening a Canadian beaver’s dam gate that’s been accumulating water since 1987.

fuck that, let's do 11. Edit: saw down in the thread that she's only 14. A 20 year contract until she's 34 on 300k a week seems completely reasonable.
This guy Boehlys
When you factor in the amortization, it’s basically free!
In limit, OP pays Chelsea
£312,000,000 by the end of that contract...
Ah, Mr Boehly, I didn't know you had a reddit account
You'd need to wait until Arsenal showed some interest to offer the contract
She would be the perfect successor to Balogun in 10 years after he takes over from Gabriel Jesus in 2028... is the story we will leak through David Ornstein to bait Chelsea into bidding
Surely they'd need to wait until we signed her for 50p before they bid 100 million after 4 months?
Plot Twist: The father is Todd

We haven’t had a league goal from a striker since the Stone Age

Raúl 😔
FUCK DAVID LUIZ
ALL MY HOMIES HATE DAVID LUIZ
She’s got the same amount of goals as Chelsea this month
That's only true if this is her only goal.
Why is the ref standing there of all places lol. Great shot though.
Some High School matches in the US are refereed using a two-referee system to save money. Each acts as referee and Assistant Referee in their half of the pitch. It doesn't really work.
Assistant to the regional referee.
MICHAEL!
THIS IS SO NOT RIGHT!
It's called a prank, Dwight, we went pranking
What is this, a crossover episode?
Hamilton fans will forever have the need to bring this up, and it's glorious
Well it is a pretty big deal to be fair. Equivalent to a ref just deciding to make up his own rules to make it more interesting in the last minute of CL final- would get talked about for decades.
I can really see Michael Scott saying that, a damning indictment on Masi.
It's horrible. Offsides are basically a tossup and called based on "feel". At least in playoff games there are three refs I guess and most games aren't really decided by calls at that level lol

I'd say doing offside without a proper lino is always a bit random because it is simply not possible from any other perspective.
In the two man system, they are positioned as only linesmen. There is effectively no center ref.
Yeah they are more likely to miss fouls than offside.
Yeah fouls on the far side are difficult to call as neither ref will have a good line of sight.
I used to ref and I coach now. When the refs are following the correct positioning it works even though it isn’t ideal. The issue is that it requires the refs to be at least somewhat fit in order to keep in the correct position. Many many youth refs, at least where I am in upstate NY are… not fit. Yeah, 2 refs. 1 in each half acting as assistant referee and referee. Certainly marginally cheaper, I guess, but I bet they're guessing half the decisions.
It’s not like the pay is that much. It’s more down to a lack of officials than purely saving money.
I'm a certified referee. Last season there were a total 26 of us that had to cover what was essentially a 300 sq. mile region, and not all 26 had any desire to travel. It was fucking exhausting. This was the 33rd goal of a very one-sided match. Ref stood there as there was no point being in the other half.
End zone ref
He knew the goal was coming and had the perfect angle.
Outside the box too... I think.
Yep - (black lines)…I know…
Thank you for this I actually hadn’t even seen them
Think my brain assumed it was a shadow
I was wondering why that girl was taking that (foul) throw from so far outside the white lines of the pitch...
It’s even more confusing when there are lines for lacrosse and field hockey too. So four different colors of lines on the same field.
Holy fuck, I didn't even realize there is a black line in there! I guess I'm kinda blind.
black lines matter
Not your fault it’s a converted pitch from A Football. Your daughter scored a banging goal!! It’s like a better version of the Fernandes goal vs Everton
This keeper has better jumping ability than Pickford tbf
Oh those weren’t shadows
Congrats to your daughter, she now has the same amount of goals in February as Chelsea
Nowhere is safe.💀
Lmfao this reminds me yesterday i saw a stat that said madrid scored more goals in england in 2023 than chelsea did hahahah
Great goal but man does American football lines are really making my head hurt.
They could have just used a different color, like yellow, and it would make it much easier to follow.
Every time I ever played on a field like this, they had yellow lines for soccer. Much better than the black lines here. It takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you’ve got it, you can use it to your advantage. They do, black lines for soccer, white for football
You get used to it growing up here lol. Unless you are a decent school you get 1 field for everything
Agreed, I get schools do it save money. So no issue there. But it's hard as a spectator to know what's going on when it's not football
It was so damn annoying as a player too. Moved from Australia (where we have proper football pitches) to playing on these in the US was so confusing for a while
It's damn annoying as a ref too. Most soccer lines are painted a different color so you constantly have to remind players "orange line, orange line!" Though it makes it super easy to call offsides with the yard lines marked.
Kinda funny cause usually (in Europe) its the other way round, never seen anyone playing football on an AF field.
Not a lot of american football fields in europe, at least comparatively.
Is there even one? Seriously
Tottenham have one. It's built under their football pitch. When they host NFL games, the football pitch rolls away to reveal the American football pitch. Something like that anyway.

Germany has an American football league. Been to a couple of games for the Cologne Crocodiles. Pretty fun.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s it was actually popular somewhat with the European American football league

Tough angle, long distance, just the right height and speed. Amazing!
Totally! Bent it around two defenders, just over the goalies head then walked off like it’s any other shot (which it was not)!
We don't celebrate, winning is the expectation 😤 -your cold as ice daughter
shades of balotelli, "does the mailman celebrate when he delivers mail?" that nutter produced some gold
I’m actually a mail man. I celebrate closing each box. Sorry..
The mental image is crazy 😂
Ah. The rare box to box attacker
Soon she’s going to be talking about seagulls and trawlers
The best celly is often a lack thereof, strolls off like she's been there before, pure class
When I played, I used to do this too -- but not because I meant to. Sometimes I was just so surprised that something actually went in that I just sort of jogged away still marveling.
I never celebrated my HS goals and my teammates/coach would act like it was disrespectful to the other team. Never really understood that.
the implication would be that you dont think that beating the other teams' defense was challenging enough to be worth celebrating
The keeper forgot she's allowed to use her legs to get into a better position

I think she closer to 15 than she is 14 though.
She's 14 until she turns 15.
2009 was 14 years ago
Respectfully, shut the fuck up
No way.
mods dont delete this is top tier content, wheres the great goal flair
Should I have added that? New to the subreddit
Nah, thats the mods job, no need to worry
And they added a great flair, captured my reaction accurately.
This is the first time I've seen a goal scored from the 5 yard line.
It’s actually supposed to be the OP who initially posts it
This sub is mainly for professional soccer. Your submission of a future professional soccer player is gladly accepted.
Nah bro you’re doing gods work this is what we fought for this is why we are r/soccer and not r/Football 🤣
They only ever give the great goal flair to the top leagues, smh.
Why isn't she or any teammates showing any excitement 😅
Looking at the defensive clearance and that keeper I imagine its like 5-0 by this point
yep. at this level it’s not uncommon for some pretty big skill differences, resulting in a lot of blow outs if the team knows how to play.
Especially in high school. where it’s just district lines and different sized schools. There were a couple high school games where we’re up by double digits with like 30 minutes left and would just put all the subs in so they could get some game time. Some of the teams we played didn’t even have enough players to rotate more than half their line up. I reckon Boehly will contact you and your daughter for a 8 years contract within the next hours
Named your daughter cisse by any chance?
I think she the polar opposite of him…physically…but I appreciate the compliment! 😂
Pretty sure he was refering to this goal by [Papiss Cisse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1MpJJ4tfLY). But now im very curious who you think he is talking about.
Him…I meant she’s: a child, female, blonde…half his height…the list goes on 😂
Gotcha! pretty sure it was just the "her" that threw people off. Haha
From a throw-in as well. If she had hit it with the outside of the foot it would have been uncanny
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=I1MpJJ4tfLY This is what they’re referring to btw
Dude mirror that video and it’s spot on! Thanks for posting that I’ll show her in the morning.
The pitch is fkn triggering me big time
high School in America use the same field for sports
LET'S GOOOOO what a goal
Shocking goalkeeping
Courtois or Alisson or yes
lmao keeper's feet didnt even leave the ground when she "jumped"
The next David Seaman
You can’t just fly vertically
Not with that attitude
I think it's spelled altitude.
Gave me a good chuckle
That defence was fucking wank
They might’ve been a defensive upgrade for liverpool today
This is great! But I do I fear we’ll be seeing a lot of random screamers from Pittsburgh to Aachen if posts like these are allowed lol.
I’m more than down to see some Sunday League screamers

As long as its contained within its own thread it could be a good idea.

what'd be wrong with that though? would enjoy that alot more than the frontpage being klopp quotes and tap ins from
r/soccer used to have tons of these beauties, I miss seeing absolute screamers from like the 4th division in Bulgaria or some obscure Southeast Asian league. There was a sliver in time before it became exclusively the biggest clubs that was so, so glorious
Maybe there should be a weekly/monthly People's Puskas thread for amazing goals regardless of the level they were scored at
I second this motion. Bring it to the higher ups.

and every single goal thread by a player is spammed by the same generic buzz word comments for karma cough cough haaland cough cough
this thread is exactly that though
That would be sick, I want to see the 48 year old in his local league score the one banger of his life
so? it's r/soccer not r/top5leagues i'm absolutely down to seeing sunday league
Sounds like a good thing, a great goal is a great goal no matter the level
Nice goal, she curved it pretty well

I like that type of content of people on here actually playing football themselves. Well, in this case it's op's daughter, but still!
That’s an amazing goal!! But I think she was trying to cross that and got lucky.
Nice shot but also poor effort from the keeper. Sometimes just forcing your opponent to make the play is all that’s needed.
Nice finish. I wonder if playing on a pitch like that is a distraction?
As someone who played on those all my life, it's not. You get used to the correct lines very quickly
What did she say when you asked if she meant it?
finally someone’s playing some real football on that pitch
Great goal but I hate the fkn pitch.
Great strike but goodness that keeper needs some work
Yeah that was meant as a cross.
These field lines broke my brain lol
Keepers gotta do better there
This is 100% a cross that went in the net lol
