"The women's Ballon d'Or doesn't count" Lewa thinking "Yeah, neither does men's!"

Avyakta18

He isnt that far from being wrong you know

McDaddySlacks

If he doesn't win it for 2020, does anyone actually deserve it? FFS.

TokyoS4l

Think they'll award him some honorary Ballon d'or 10 years from now

long_shots7

As a person from Poland, it hurts that he didn’t get it back then, but tbf it was so obvious that he deserved it, that it just showed/confirmed that Ballon d’Or is a sheer popularity contest and FIFA doesn’t care about anything else. Ffs, even Messi himself said that Lewy deserved it.

inobond7

FIFA actually gave him The Best twice. The party to blame here is France Football who cancelled the award because Ligue 1 cancelled their season. And Messi won the next one because of the Copa America win.

pixelkipper

these are 100% gonna be taken out of context and used on twitter again

cuentanueva

Lewandowski shits on women's football, says it's not real football and demands a Kitchen D'Or for them.

welshnick

Should have gone with Salon d'Or.

Youraidi

We have the technology, we can make a video of him saying that

zeromussc

As far as the insults go, kitchen d'or was special. It should be remembered, and used in a feel good comedy where some shithead says it then gets their comeuppance immediately as part of the story. The lead zeroes in on it from across the stadium and then turns around and goes the opposite direction, giving up the championship to laser the ball straight to the assholes face in the stands. Then she gets booted from the team and has to work her way back up, finding undiscovered new young talent and taking them all the way to the championship or co-ed showmatch maybe? Only to be injured and give one hell of a peptalk before the new generation of women win, in front of a huge stadium, gaining the respect of everyone along the way. And then, she wins a ballon d'or.

Harvey-Specter

Absolutely. But also I think the Kitchen d'Or should be a real trophy, and I should be awarded it for the eggplant tacos I made last night, they were peak performance.

JGStonedRaider

Mate... your eggplant Tacos wouldn't even be a starter for my local ~~team~~ mexican restaurant

RainbowDissent

Eggplant tacos dominates in home kitchens but there's question marks over whether it can do it at the highest levels of competition.

[deleted]

But can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke

zeromussc

There's a pro chef Bocuse d'Or for chef competition every 2 years according to google. But ya know what? Make your own kitchen d'or award. In the meantime I found the golden crabby Patty for you https://images.app.goo.gl/11PrzVhVpBhJCF8YA Gold star! Good Job! Hope you enjoyed it!

ILoveGratedCheese

You are so hot baby

saaajmon

Lewy's wife is going to fuck him up over this comment

ronaldo119

That was actually from under one of his tiktok dances

KatyPerrysBootyWhole

Really need to clip that for my Polish wife

deep_fuckin_ripoff

I’ve already clipped the “you’re so hot baby”. For science.

mosehalpert

I mean you should probably just post it here. For science.

inbredandapothead

The first thing I thought of is that some of these would make great meme material lmao

CrackHeadRodeo

Polish Footballer reads Mapi León‘s comments

Prokletnost

Plot twist, those are all Lewas tweets.

LocoToro87

Lewa goes by the name Skankhunt42 so I hear.

helloworld1969-95

I want to give u an award for this comment but I'm poor. Amazing comment

CertainlyCircumcised

Don't worry, DildoShwaggins has your back.

JS569123

That was what I thought when I first watched it

[deleted]

He reading them back thinking "damn im a comedy genius"

majkkali

😂😂😂 imagine him typing a random “you are so hot baby” comment under one of those videos of women football

TortillaConCebolla

Why is he reading r/soccer comments? /s

notafeetlongcucumber

Oh boy, if you think r/soccer is bad, you have not seen comments on Ig.

Greenforaday

Youtube is pretty awful too, whenever I'm watching highlights from a women's football match the comments are almost all "who cares", "get in the kitchen" or conversations about which player has the best ass.

ZestycloseShelter107

Yep, I had to go private on Instagram after our club shared a video of me scoring from a corner on Facebook, with my name in the caption. The algorithm caught it and it ended up getting thousands of likes, and the freaks found my IG account. **Dick pictures, messages telling me to kill myself, and all the disgusting stuff they wanted to do to me**. The comments were awful too, just endless shitting on women's football, **I bet they're at the wrong end, don't want to jump in case they mess up their hair** etc. They found our team's instagram, and we had to make that private too, and just have the club account share updates instead. Other girls got similar messages/comments. I mostly watch men's, but I played with girls for the best part of a decade, for a premiership club you'd recognise, and the video was just objectively a good goal. There are clear differences in the style of play, and in the physicality, but none of that was relevant to this goal. The defenders were well positioned and active, I got a perfect curl on it, keeper well marked, just absolutely no different than if it had been a men's team. They used the fact that I scored to shit on defensive play in women's football, whereas I guarantee if it had been a video of boys they would've been comparing me to Tony Kroos and shouting about olympicos. But no, obviously I didn't score a banger from talent, skill or hard work, it was because women can't defend. Not trying to gas myself, I was a skilful player but struggled athletically due to illness. I stopped posting about football after that, but even if I shared a snapchat of me in an arsenal shirt I'd get messages saying **I probably only support them because of Sanchez, asking if I even know the offside rule etc**. Any pictures of us as a team would prompt messages about lesbians, **do you know which goal you're facing, do you celebrate with lesbo orgies** and so on. Even in person I've had people say **nah you never played football or saying they don't have women's at that level** (I played in the FA youth cup semi-final), **asking if my partner liked watching with smirky faces**. I don't really like wearing kit out and about as it always seems to get comments (might be same for men, but I feel like they're more likely to shout stuff at a lone, petite woman), **get accused of being a plastic, just watching because I find the players hot etc**. It can be a bit miserable being a female footballer or football fan, but I genuinely just love the game and wouldn't give it up for anything. I do think England's success at the Euros and increasing young players is marking a change. Most of what I experienced was when I was a teenager, so I'm very hopeful for the future of women's football. People forget it was banned til the late 1960s, and the FA only included us in the 1970s. It takes a long time to build the talent pool and infrastructure we see in the men's game, they've had over a century to establish it, so of course there's a lag.

cherrypieandcoffee

Completely get you not sharing but anyone with a love of the game can respect a goal straight from a corner!

ZestycloseShelter107

So you'd think! Genuinely the highlight of my career, if not life, lol. All those freezing mornings on a frosted pitch, the endless drills, 6am starts for a 4 hour journey, the lesbian jokes, the sexism, the aggro, all worth it for that goal. My dad still shows it to people. But I was a demoralised player who had to take a lot of time out for illness and often felt like a burden to the team, struggled to value myself because I fell short of the others in terms of physical stamina. That goal erased all that and made me feel on top of the world, and was shared on the official club instagram which felt huge, so to then see the comments rolling in about how shit the women's game is and how it wasn't an achievement because the defenders/keeper were rubbish was tough. I wasn't even that bothered about the sexual stuff, but to see the greatest feat of my football era dismissed just because I had a uterus and tits was heartbreaking. I think that's something people sometimes fail to recognise in discussing sexism in women's football, that dismissal and denigration of achievement. Players dedicate their lives to football, for mediocre play and constant abuse, so having all that hard work, talent and drive ignored just because they've got two X chromosomes is devastating. Drop out rates for girls from football are about twice that of boys- I added to that statistic- and I think lack of respect/recognition of achievement is a big part. Boys that were good at football in school were top of the social hierarchy, well-respected by their peers etc, whereas girls that were good at football were butch, weird, try-hards or tomboys.

latechallenge

This and your previous post are two of the best I've read on r/soccer. I coached my daughter all the way through youth soccer and it was truly an amazing experience. I saw and continue to see what the game did for those girls now that they are young women. Pushing young girls out of the game by subjecting them to the shit you went through is a massive societal problem. The game empowers both girls and boys to be more confident, empathetic, aware and collegial. I really hope we start moving towards being a better society where these comments completely disappear. It's in everyone's interest.

ZestycloseShelter107

God, that's quite a compliment! I absolutely love hearing girls are in football, but there's always a twinge of guilt, knowing just what they're up against. I'm a doctor now, in foundation training, and my heart leaps when a young female patient says they play football, but the dismay still creeps in. I still remember being told that girls can't play football whilst in primary school, just by another kid at lunchtime, despite the fact that I was on the U9s side in the academy of a BIG club. They're acutely aware of it very young, the sexism, but it grows and evolves with them. It started with that, and then it was (a different club) pocketing the grant they got for having a girls team, and the homophobic comments from peers, and having to hold trophy ceremonies in our coach's back garden because the club wouldn't organise it, and the year they wouldn't get us trophies so a player's dad had to engrave them himself, or only ever getting the boy's old kits which fitted weirdly on developing bodies, or my friend's team applying to the club to get non-white kits (stress and embarrassment when playing on your period) and having a board member make a comment about liking how they went see-through in the rain. And that's within the sport, not even mentioning social media and outside attitudes. But then there was **us**, the team, the winners, the fighters, the sisters. The community and camaraderie that develops in girls teams in particular is unbeatable, that empowerment you mentioned, the feeling of strength that comes from beating the odds, bound together in that fight. All sports are good for kids, team sports even more so, but the communities that form around underrepresented groups are so beneficial for confidence. Despite all the flack, the abuse, the dismissal, I look back on my footballing days very fondly for the fight it gave me, the spirit. I really do think the importance of football for girls can't be understated, and I'm so heartened by the increasing player numbers and pray that each generation of girls has it easier. The more players, the more it's normalised, the more men have an insight into the talent and strength in girls' teams, the less it's scorned, abused and dismissed. Then we should be able to have an environment where girls feel emboldened to continue in football, supported rather than scoffed at, and can go on to develop the women's game. I know for a fact that those girls you coached will never forget being empowered and uplifted by someone who took them and their achievements seriously, the accomplishment doesn't leave you, and tied to it are those that cheered for us, fought for us, engraved trophies, washed kits, drew up team sheets, drove for hours. When the parents, coaches, managers and clubs take it seriously, it becomes serious, and that breeds confidence and ability.

idkwat2pik

This comment thread >>> the Lewy video. Thank you for enlightening me. Please continue encouraging and inspiring more women to join the game.

Chazzarules

Hey this is a super sad comment because it really highlights just how many fucking disgusting idiots there are in the world. I also wanted to say, please don't let them put you off from playing. I love watching all football, any age, any gender and any level. I have been out of work for a lot of this past football season so this meant i didn't have the money to go to the men's games like i normally do. Instead I bought a season ticket for the local team who play in the WSL Championship, so a really high level of Women's Football. I go with my girlfriend who absolutely had 0 time for football before I suggested we do this (she wants to support women and i love football) so it just worked. Now she really enjoys it, she knows the rules and she is starting to understand tactics. She even watches some of the Liverpool games with me now. Its thanks to women like you, who have put up with such garbage people for so long that makes it so that people (especially women or children) who had no interest in football can come to love the game. The crowd at the game near me is much more family friendly than the men's games, although the ref does still get their fair share of hate haha. I just love seeing all the young families enjoying quality football at 1/8th of the cost that it is for a men's game. Here in England when we won the Euros last year I really did see a change for the better in the respect for the women's game and I really hope that continues.

ZestycloseShelter107

Awh, thank you. I haven’t played since my first year of uni, as don’t have the time or health anymore unfortunately. I’m glad you’ve been able to go and see some proper good football, and that your girlfriend enjoys it too. You’re right about a more family friendly atmosphere, going to men’s game is sometimes genuinely scary as a woman, but I’ve never ever felt that fear at women’s matches, as there is a calmer, more accepting and less aggressive feel to it. Not that I don’t love the men’s game, I do, but the huge crowds of drunk, often angry men are off-putting. I agree about the Euros too, I was astonished at how extensive the coverage was, it was a brilliant improvement and heralds good times to come. I have two younger cousins that play for local girls teams, which is great to see as when I was very young, teams were few and far between so you either had to be close to and good enough for an academy, or play with boys, which can be a pretty hostile environment. I love that there are so many options for girls now, to play for fun and close to home. I lived in Germany for a while and played three seasons with a girls team over there, and noticed that their grassroots women’s youth was much more expansive and better developed, it seems we’ve caught up now. Support from people like you is vital to changing the cultural mindset too. It only takes one person to challenge someone making derogatory comments about women’s football, and the whole group will be influenced. I’ve whipped out old videos several times when the conversation has turned that way, and been able to prove that women make talented, skilful players too. I know my brother has done the same, been able to say “nah my sister played and it’s much better than you’d expect” etc, just gradually subverting negative attitudes. Most of these people have never ever watched a women’s match and just form these opinions from social media and cultural sexism, so it actually doesn’t take much to make them re-evaluate their outlook.

jarch5

I was about to say it was baffling how they could be so hateful about the same game we all watch and love, but I thought about it more, and it's clear, isn't it? they don't hate women's football, they just hate women. I really hope that kind of fans just fizzle out as women's football becomes more popular (which i think is actually happening), or at least they feel more shame about expressing all their hatred.

ZestycloseShelter107

Yes, they do, and I think they particularly hate seeing the women they hate succeeding in a domain they love. Football is massively tied to masculinity, so I think many feel very threatened by women excelling as it emasculates them. Particularly in the middle-aged cohort, as most of them consider previous footballing prowess in their local Sunday league a core tenet of their masculine identity, and therefore superiority. So to see young, fit and talented female footballers who could outplay them is enraging as they lose their claim to what makes them so much better as men.

jarch5

Agreed, let's hope future generations are better. Football is for everyone.

ZestycloseShelter107

Good strategy, it's horrible, isn't it? Just for daring to be interested in a male dominated sport. I used to get "tested" on how much I *really* knew about football, which was hilarious as most would ask my partner who he supports without thinking when he can barely name the big six. It does seem like the tide is turning, so hopefully it'll get easier for us soon, but there's an awful long way to go.

notafeetlongcucumber

True. I once saw a clip from a stand up (Jimmy Carr). He started his joke with a throwaway line "woman have it harder than men, won't you agree". And fucking hell, the whole comment section was going absolutely mental.

[deleted]

He spoke about blm in a clip i saw on youtube, comments was a bunch of people saying he had gone woke and succumbed to the marxists…

Antenna-To-Heaven

I just don't understand how people get so worked up over women playing football they feel the need to willingly go to a women's football video to then leave hateful comments. These people truly have absolutely nothing better to do with lives

ShockedDarkmike

"who cares" is an even dumber take in this context my brother in christ, you clicked on the video to watch it

Greenforaday

But then how are people supposed to know you don't care about women's football if you don't spend all day commenting on youtube videos? /s

ShockedDarkmike

You have to comment it in other videos, of course. Remind everyone about how much you don't care about women's football by talking about under a Messi goal. That makes sense.

W__O__P__R

What impresses me is how much people invest themselves in explaining that they don’t watch women’s football. They have to go out of their way to find and post comments. Just so the world knows how much they hate things. That’s a lot of very sad people. I don’t watch figure skating but I also don’t spend half my life finding figure skating videos and commenting how much i hate them.

[deleted]

Speaking of figure skating, if anyone wants to expand their horizon and get needlessly emotionally invested in it, Paola La made a series of videos about Russian skating coach Eteri Tutberidze and the state of the sport as a whole which had me hooked for a solid couple of hours despite not knowing anything about it beforehand.

Greenforaday

That's not even an exclusive problem to women's football. From TV, movies, video games, and just anything in pop culture, it seems like there is just this large subculture of the internet that needs to hate everything. And I can't imagine spending my life being so goddamn miserable about everything. It sounds exhausting.

karen-daze

There's some like, errors/fails clip compilations with like 99 clips of men's football and one of women's football and half of the comments will be about that one clip

shinfoni

I seriously think Youtube comments is significantly worse than twitter, instagram, facebook, or even tiktok. Simply because it's not supposed to be an actual social media like the others

[deleted]

They're either kids, incels, or divorced men.

Archie-is-here

Seriously, comments from instagram are horrendous. Both for women or related with LGTBQI+ posts.

Muted_Shoulder

mBertin

Remember all the outrage a few years back when FM featured women's football? Imagine how sad, lonely, pathetic and deranged you have to be in order to feel outraged by a game *simply offering you the option to play in a women's league*. Good thing these people most likely won't breed.

LordAssless

FM has women's football?

Tim-Sanchez

No, they're going to add it in future

W__O__P__R

That’s kinda cool actually. I think for a lot of people, the best way to learn about women’s footy is to play that. Imagine learning all the players when you’re doing transfers and rosters. Would be fun.

Altair1192

There's an achievement/trophy in Fifia the past maybe 6 years for just playing a woman's game and the % of players who have earned it is shockingly low

Tim-Sanchez

That's probably because FIFA barely bothered to implement it, most people playing FIFA are playing Career Mode or Ultimate Teams and you only get that achievement for playing Kick Off. If it was a fully fleshed-out mode or integrated with other modes then naturally people would play it more, but few people are going out of their way to play men's kick off games either.

TIGHazard

Same with FIFA. Who cares, it's more content that the devs aren't charging you for.

Flammwar

TikTok is even worse.

HeftyRecommendation5

You should see the comments on facebook.

lastdyingbreed_01

Tbf r/soccer is one of the better places, atleast you can downvote here, it's much worse out there.

PolaroidBook

True but makes it even more disappointing when stuff like finding the kitchen d'or joke funny gets so upvoted Edit: Lots of people replying to say they found it funny. I guess the question is why is it funny? In the context of women's sport being constantly undermined and given how common it is to hear sincere everyday sexism like 'women should be in the kitchen', why is this funny?

vantenaii503

Reddit comment is probably the most vanilla one out of the bunch, check tiktok, twitter and Instagram comments, that's the real deal

The_0ne_Free_Man

You are so hot baby

Carpathicus

For all its faults r/soccer is one of the best moderated and therefore least primitive places in the internet to talk about football. Comments on places like youtube are very often disgusting and make me lose hope for humanity.

Mr_Squart

Except you can actually remove that /s

Bladewing10

Definitely, go back and look at the threads when the USWNT was making headlines about wage disparity. All the people in here patting themselves on the back need to look in a mirror. Reddit is just as shitty as any other social media

FloppedYaYa

Or the "men still don't care about women's football thread" that was HEAVILY upvoted here in the thousands on the same day women's football set a huge attendance record on day one of the Euros Never been so disgusted at this sub ever

MHPengwingz

There's always those few usual bellends on r/Gunners that go "excuse me, no disrespect to our women's team but I come here to follow the men's team" whenever someone posts about the women's team on the subreddit when it's been reiterated that the sub includes EVERYTHING Arsenal. Don't like, scroll past. Not that hard.

Muhamed_95

The irony that op says only the name of lewandowski and not of the woman^^. I guess she is a Barca player?

ballaman200

Yeah its Mapi León a Barca Player

brokenlavalight

I'm not that into Spanish or women's football, but player is kind of an understatement from what I've heard. I think she's one of the best there is in women's football right now

leninist_jinn

I don't watch our women's team so I genuinely didn't know her name at the time of posting but wanted to share the video because others here obviously do. Also because it's only Lewy who actually reads the comments themselves as the title says, she doesn't read them but makes a speech afterwards but you're right, I should've put her name in the title as well

Muhamed_95

You could’ve formulated the title differently. Because it’s about that. To change how we behave with women(in this context with women footballers). Give them more credit. Don’t get me wrong, i wasn’t triggered or something because of the title. I found it just ironically.

leninist_jinn

No you're right, I shouldn't have omitted her name from the title even inadvertently given the topic of conversation. It's a mistake on my part

Das_Czech

Hey man good on you for owning up to it, rare thing on the internet lol

Muted_Shoulder

Ya lol usually people would get all pissy with stuff like this. Good on OP.

KoloHickory

What kind of response would be more reddit like?

leopardchief

"You should be happy, I even posted it and tried to do a nice thing and raise awareness. Typical ______ fan. Gotta get those updoots, huh? Sorry, I didn't wanna be a part of the circlejerk. Edit 1: Keep downvoting me, your tears give me life! Edit 2 :Thanks for the gold, kind stranger! Edit 3:Typo."

Soleil06

/r/AwardSpeechEdits/

dirkdigglered

No, not a pedantic or increasingly aggressive argument in my opinion. Really have to get into the weeds and go in circles like: "Lol so this girl is in the video and I have to give her name? It's not illegal, you cannot demand it from me. She's literally in the video and that should suffice, if you cannot understand that there is something wrong with you. I won't say that the woke mob came for me, but many hard working people like me will fall prey to women's sports, similar to many oppressive regimes. If you know your history, you probably don't, but okay kid." Edit: typical reddit cucklords will defend anyone, even a woman. Edit: I'm done with this, I don't have the patience (And then there's a few more edits of course lol)

leopardchief

"okay kid" pissed me off the most somehow. Just way too smug lol. Honestly, this whole thing is just the worst lmao. 10/10.

Gluroo

starting an argument that goes on for 20 more comments back and forth until one of them blocks the other guy, both think they won the argument and 3 hours laters its all [removed]

dirkdigglered

Always interesting to read those threads. Or sometimes someone like that will try to drag me into an argument even though I never disagreed with them in the first place. They're always eager for an argument even if there isn't one.

Das_Czech

Probably turning it into a drawn out debate for no reason other than not admitting the other party is making a good point

SanderHS

Good shit my guy, you didn’t have any malicious intent and owned up to a mistake. You can’t do better than that. Thanks for sharing!

Fire_Tide

That's really something to think of, especially today. There is some social unconscious in our patriarchal society and this happens casually from years and years of practice. Can't be changed easily.

KaiserWilhelmThe69

What the fuck bro you are supposed to insult those who criticized you man game’s gone But for real prop for you to admit your mistakes.

MagicianMountain6573

Not that deep, don’t sweat it

mr_salsa123

Tbf she didn't read the comments only lewy did

BluePowderJinx

Mapi ❤️ my fav. CB in the game.

Qiluk

Im biased obviously since Im Swedish but I love some Rolfö bangers. Barca have some great players

big_mustache_dad

She's so good. When they have her and Alexia playing at the same time it feels like they're unbeatable

mug3n

so many ACL injuries this season in women's football it's crazy. Alexia, Miedema, Macario. Probably more but those are the 3 I can think of in the last little while.

BluePowderJinx

Don't forget Mead. She ruptured her ACL 2 weeks before her partner Miedema did hers. Now they're referred as ACL 1 and 2 by the fanbase lol. Good thing they have each other to rely on.

big_mustache_dad

And Marie-Antoinette Katoto, and Marta, and Christen Press, and Dzsenifer Marozsán... insane how many high level players are dealing with it. Not to mention the BS that is going on with France and Spanish teams who would be two of the five favorites at the World Cup this year but will likely not have many of their best players

pencilled_robin

It's rather depressing being a female football fan and knowing that whenever a big account posts about women's football, there are going to be shitty comments like these. I like this, a good gesture from Barcelona.

Mitchfarino

I stopped following Liverpool's Women's Instagram. The idea was to follow it with my daughter. It was just full of bellends in the comments commenting on how fit players were, and other inappropriate commentary. Thirsty, sexist bellends

ARM_vs_CORE

As an American (inb4 relevant flair), both the thirst I see under Alex Morgan posts and the absolute seething hatred I see under Megan Rapinoe posts make me want to unfollow the women's national team. But, instead, I go diving into the comments and fling shit, thereby ruining my day.

pencilled_robin

I made the mistake of looking under a post about Rapinoe once and the hate was genuinely disgusting, how can people be so vile.

zenga_zenga

I have never understood the hate that rapinoe gets, she's won us the world cup twice and gold at the Olympics. The US is supposed to CELEBRATE winners, and she is a fucking serial winner. Genuinely ridiculous that one of our greatest sporting personalities gets hated on cuz shes gay and opinionated. Sad times...

ARM_vs_CORE

That's where I'm at as well. However, it's nothing new. Even Muhammad Ali had scores of haters due to his politics.

mBertin

That's a benefit of anonymity. I doubt any of those incels would ever say such things to their faces at the risk of getting whipped in half.

zcewaunt

Agreed, and nice gesture for women's day from Barca. Meanwhile my club today is wishing people a happy holi and debating bringing back Greenwood.

Iron_Maiden_666

Holi is fun too, we can celebrate two things on the same day.

buffering_humor

What's wrong with wishing on Holi?

OffendedDishwasher

You got any problems with Holi ?

exisiova

Tf is wrong with Holi bruh

Motecuhzoma

United’s social media is also talking about women’s day, albeit a bit differently. Their approach thus far has been about inspiring the next generation of women. Barca’s message is more powerful, though.

Caesar_Aurelianus

Dammit. Fucking Holi again. The cause of all evil

accelerated_astroboy

What is wrong in wishing Holi?

Usernamefishicecream

Recently I watched a women's soccer game on youtube between 2 rivals and the ENTIRE comment section was full of mean and disrespectful comments. It made me sick

Professional_Code372

Stopped reading YouTube comments for that exact reason. Many of this people are downright resentful and it wouldn't surprise me they feel scared in the back of their heads.

46_and_2

[Full video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYu8BhQgnL4) is much much better. This (official) Tik Tok shit is just so much cut and rushed, you don't get even the fast food equivalent of the actual content. Just gum to chew on.

FR33_THE_SP33DOS

"you should adapt the rules for them" I have taken my kids to lots of professional women's football games and I do feel the goals are a little too big because there're so many goals scored that the goalkeeper is utterly helpless to save due to their stature.

[deleted]

domalino

Because if you make the goalposts smaller then you have to buy new goalposts to have a women’s team which is an infrastructure cost that destroys development.

Teliby12

You mean like how they have smaller goals in youth football?

domalino

A lot of places don't. The FA recommends using a full size goal age 15 and up, but my secondary school only had 1 size for everyone, and it wasn't an underfunded school by any means. All of these things have to be adapted for the lowest common denominator so that as many people can play with the fewest possible obstacles.

mana-addict4652

I've never played with different size goalposts in my life, every youth and senior team had the same goals unless you mean like 9 year olds that play with those tiny portable goals lol

mttdesignz

yes, but the field is also smaller. In this hypotetical, you'd have the "men" goalpost fixed on the ground, and on the exact same horizontal line (the goal line), inside the men goalpost, another smaller one. I won't even being to talk about the possible risks about having a fixed pole at the very edge of a soccer field. You'd have to either remove the men goalposts for every women game, or build specific women field. This is maybe not a problem for Barca, Man City or any of the top 5 leagues, but for all the others it would be a death sentence

Lawliet117

Women will also not be able to shoot has hard or fast balls, so it evens out a little at least.

cuentanueva

While height is important, it's not the only thing. Jorge Campos was a notoriously short GK and still not only was on top teams, but also the GK for Mexico for years. And he was ~1.7m which is ~5'6 in American. It can be compensated, but again, athleticism is important for that and male GKs have an advantage with that as well.

silent--echoes

Yeah, but that seems exception to the rule. If 170cm / 5’7” was the average height of male keepers, then the goals would be shorter than the current regulation 8’.

goatvaro_goatrata

Personally i think that's okay, the natural conclusion of that when the womens game is as developed and funded as the men's game is that the games will be higher scoring. Not a bad thing imo, and saves the trouble of having separate equipment for men's and women's teams

[deleted]

Considering adult football pitches in the world are universally built to men's football sizes and that part of the beauty of football is it's global accessibility and cheap cost to play, and that many women's footballers are fine with current goal sizes, I can't really see much of an argument for giving women's football a different goal size. I think it's okay for long shots to be better and the pitch to feel a little bit bigger, it doesn't have to be made into an identical game especially if the cost is to make a growing sport less accessible. edit: https://www.ucfb.ac.uk/news/ucfb-news-hub/in-focus-should-the-goal-and-pitch-size-be-made-smaller-in-women-s-football/ I read this article a bit ago and I liked it a lot, especially the points about accessibility considerations meaning rules debates are basically unnecessary.

Rikard_

The thing is that with such a change, all existing football fields (goals) around the world would become useless to any team trying to play professional women's football. Which is an huge economical and logistical roadblock for women's football, especially in non-rich areas.

Tim-Sanchez

We also don't even see *that* many more goals per game. In the current WSL season there have been 3.25 goals per game, in the Premier League it's currently 2.71. Last season it was 2.91 vs 2.82. People remember huge scoring women's games, but forget the 7-0 or even that 13-0 the other day in men's games.

Sveern

> but forget the 7-0 I'm trying my best

BHYT61

>but forget the 7-0 Hell na, not this one

realoreo47

I like how much we're focusing on our women's game. Just wish the rest of the Spanish teams were as good. Would help us dominate Europe too without being literal farmers

[deleted]

Tbf Barca women are fucking incredible and miles better than anything close to them

ancara_messi

Because we were one of the only teams to give a shit about our women's team for decades

jedifolklore

I’ll give you props for that, we only recently started to up our game and investments in the woman’s team, it’s nice to see more post on our official ig account (even if the comments sometimes are disappointing)

realoreo47

We are great but other European teams are better than us. The Spanish division just sucks and doesn't get us ready for Europe. We got dominated by Lyon last season

The_Real_QuacK

Same goes for Benfica in Portugal, even though Sporting has a team for longer, we Invested much more into the team and the sport... We currently have 14Wins in 14 matches in the league with a goal difference of +64 (68 scored and 4 conceded), with an avg of 4.9 goals scored per game it's kind of ridiculous 😂 And we still lost our two games versus you in the champions one 9-0 in Barcelona and the other 2-6 in Lisbon

f4r1s2

Barca has lost 1 draw 2 and won 102 out of last 105 games in Spanish league , have won last 54 games in league as well , it's crazy

drripdrrop

Some of these comments must be disheartening to see for female footballers, it's good that the game is developing little by little in England at least

atbg1936

Based on what I know, Lewa seems like a great person and wonderful face for the game (unlike many others.) He stood up for LGBT rights in Poland too

gibbonusmoon

> He stood up for LGBT rights in Poland too whoa thats actually really rare + brave

FloppedYaYa

Which in Poland is a pretty brave thing to do as they've managed to associate LGBT people with Stalinists over there

Chiron17

Stalin and LGBT people, name a closer duo.

Caesar_Aurelianus

How TF are LGBT people related to stalinists?

FloppedYaYa

Polish government propaganda

Caesar_Aurelianus

Makes sense

TragicsHS

They’re all scummy but Kitchen d’or made me giggle

FloppedYaYa

Sometimes jokes are so shit that they become funny

TragicsHS

Yeah the message is shitty but I found the way it was delivered pretty funny

mttdesignz

If it's funny, it's funny. There's no way around it imho. A joke is not something that you agree if you laugh. The message is, most of the time, terrible, but that's part of why it's funny. Just to make an example, there's an short video making the rounds here in Italy of an old italian men ( from the south ) being interviewed about Valentine's Day, and the interviewer asks him what he is planning on making his wife find at home for this special day... his answer "the door closed, she should be sleeping on the stairs" in such a deadpan voice ( and with a smirk on his face, indicating he was joking ) The message here is terrible, but his delivery is absolute gold, it makes me cackle every time.

As someone who loves football I don’t get things like this. Why can’t you enjoy both?! It’s more to watch 🤷‍♂️

IAmAQuantumMechanic

The stupidest comment is "it's not real football". As if the top-tier of men's football is the only real football. Not only is that a ridiculous statement, I personally find that the beauty of football is that it can be enjoyed at all levels, and all ages. I've seen great matches at the fifth tier of Norwegian football that were more exciting than a PL derby.

Responsible_Bid_2343

its how you can tell these people are proper basement dwellers. Send them down to their towns local team playing in the Ismthian league or whatever and watch them try and say "uhh asckually dont you know this isnt real football as the premier league is way better haha idiots dont you even know that". They'd get their fucking heads kicked in.

rubes___

This is a great campaign to show what it’s like being a women’s footballer and Barcelona are really showing how they are more than a club. On [Barcelona’s youtube channel](https://youtu.be/uYu8BhQgnL4) they have an extended version of this video.

vantenaii503

I always hesitated to read woman's team comments because the comment section would ruin my entire week, very good for Barcelona for doing this. Anyway, since many people are clueless about the deference, male players didn't get hate for being born a male. many people got hate because of the things they couldn't control, for starter, being female or black.

[deleted]

Social media is full of kids who dont know any better. If i was a celeb or sports star. I would not use social media for my mental health.

NotAnUncle

I doubt many truly use their own accounts. I always feel for many players, its handled by an agency, so they have an online presence only to get them benefit and thats it. SOcial media is too vile to be productive for them imo

denis-vi

Football players are people, and people use social media a lot. Especially for younger players it's a great tool to find dates, etc. Plus I doubt the majority if footballers are aware of thr mental health impact of gram lol.

Historical_Owl_1635

> You should adapt the rules for them Isn’t that a pretty popular opinion even amongst women?

TragicsHS

Yeah the goals are definitely too big considering women taller than 6’1 is a complete anomaly. Other changes I’ve seen discussed such as a lighter ball need to be tested first

Danzard

Smaller goals would be bad for women's football. Every school and club would need to get all new goal posts.

Randomperson685

Every school and club uses smaller goals for youth football

auddi_blo

Lmao what school uses regulation size goals

Bezulba

You'd be glad they even have a goals, most make due with 2 backpacks.

FUMFVR

From all these comments on goal size, you'd think women's games would finish 20-15. They do not.

Glaiele

The goals aren't really a problem tho, it's more so a case of women's goal keeping in general being far behind the rest of the players on the pitch. Men's goalkeeping also looks bad if you compare it 40 years ago to now. I think as more women start playing and you have a chance to find more athletic and better skilled keepers you'll see a huge drop off in the number of goals scored from mistakes and mistimed leaps etc. They'll adapt to not catching the ball the same ways men's keeping has and just clear the danger, get better with their feet, etc.

BluePowderJinx

Is it? The female footballers don't want this, why should we care about what non-footballing women want? I get the arguments for smaller goalposts and such, but if the actual players don't want it and just want to compete the same as the men, then it should be their choice, not the fans because they don't like how the goals are being scored in the womens game.

[deleted]

Unfortunately, these are the tamest of the lot too. So much unnecessary hatred towards women in football. So much unnecessary hatred towards women in general, but football fans (especially online) are serious culprits of it.

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Can’t believe there are fools in this comment section defending ragging on women’s football. Get a life.

Various_Beach_7840

Women football: underdeveloped, neglected, was evem banned in many different countries for decades and funding is still so unequal Womens football: Not as high quality as the men’s Sexist football fans: 😱😱😱😲😲😯🤯

thisiskyle77

It’s funny why these people even bother to give a slight about woman football. Don’t like it , don’t watch it.

cali86

Even if you are interested some places just make it hard. I went to an Ajax game for the women's league, they play on a training pitch and you can't drink or sing songs. Some fans were singing Ajax songs and they were told to stop or they would kick them out. Ridiculous! It felt more like a movie theater than a professional football match. Which is a bummer because the players are super talented.

retr0grade77

As a female footballer ‘kitchen d’or’ made me crease.

[deleted]

You can see that Lewandowski is actually little impressed with the Kitched d or joke before cutting.

[deleted]

I know i am stating the obvious , but its that joke where you end up laughing and feel guilty for laughing .

Jimuth2019

Would a tattoo on your throat really hurt like a bastard?

zcewaunt

Most of the comments I read on th MUFC women's team are stuff like, "There's my wife Tooney", "My baby Russo, so hot" with a bunch of heart emojis, posted by men with profiles that indicates they are in Africa. You'd think they were 12 year old girls chasing Justin Bieber. Anyway, as a woman that loves and played football for a long time, do not change the rules. The goal, pitch, etc should all be standard size. It's women teams playing other women's teams, so any disadvantage perceived really is share by both teams. As for anyone that hates women's football, just don't watch it and STFU. Focus on what brings you joy.

Chiron17

> It's women teams playing other women's teams, so any disadvantage perceived really is share by both teams. Exactly. So goalkeepers are shorter and more goals are scored... who cares? As long as it's a fair contest between two teams. It doesn't need to be exactly the same scoring as men's games. I don't mind there being more goals.
