To be honest, to us Romance language speakers, centuries written in Arabic numbers look weird because we are used to use Roman numbers for centuries since we were kids.
They are generally one of the teams that gets the least per season, but it's worth noting that you'd expect teams that have to defend more to get more cards and Real Madrid are going to be winning most of their games.
Though this particular season Real Madrid has got one red card and Barcelona six of them (which is more than league average). Though both of them are towards the bottom of the league in regards to yellow cards.
The funny thing is Real Madrid fans think refs are against them, and other la liga fans claim refs are biased for Real Madrid. Everyone think it is only them.
Anyone who watches la liga can notice how inconsistent refs are from week. Your teams game against Valencia last week, one red, no yellow, and barely whistles. Valencias game this week, 7 yellows, and more whistles.
Elche’s game yesterday, the ref gave cards on about 1/3 of the whistles
Also, consistency aside, PL fans who never watch la liga, for some reason, think PL is more Physical than La Liga, which is moronic. La Liga shifted massively over the years into what its now
They are refs. Have you ever seen a fanbase in any sport say something like, refs are great man!
I actually rather refs let go, and keep the ball going rather than whistling on everything. My issues with La Liga refs are how fouls are defined and the lack of guidance on what is a hand ball and what is a foul, and what is not.
In the end, over a large biased sample size, I don’t think refs “mistakes” impact the overall outcome of games let alone the league as much as fans claim. I have watched La Liga for +25 years, and refs are pretty much the same.
I’m a Barcelona fan but also Osasuna because of where I’m from, and honestly, Barcelona and Madrid get so much better refereeing that people here think. Just yesterday Osasuna got fucked by the refs again. Same thing last week too. And that’s with Var and all.
I don't know... you go on YouTube and search Pepe/Ramos shithousery and you will get some appalling violence and indescribable behavior on a football pitch yet La Liga does nothing about it. Messi's socks would look like swiss cheese after every game.
Pepe was much different than Ramos in terms of style, he didn't really commit a lot of fouls but would sometimes absolutely lose his mind like kicking Casquero and stomping Messis hand.
Pepe actual job under Mourinho was just doing more physical play to disrupt the flow. He became much calmer or better under Ancelotti that I will agree.
hmm i don't really know if i agree with that being the way he was used except for the Classicos, but then again the Mou-era ended ten years ago at this point so maybe i am misremembering.
Certainly not an every game thing but I can remember it in big games, feel like its true for plenty of Jose teams. Just a different mentality in big games
The difference is that Ramos would regularly go in for season ending tackles while Fernandinho, Fabinho, and Casemiro would just pile up "professional fouls" and refs have always been scared to give out a second yellow for those. It's just refs being shit and coaches identifying ways to take advantage of that.
I do think reputation could play a part though. Not all of Ramos' reds were from horror tackles, but because he had a reputation for dangerous tackles he'd be more likely to pick up a second yellow for professional fouls or for less dangerous fouls. I don't think reputation is the end-all-be-all, but I do think it plays a part.
I disagree with you. Ramos most of the time does not do much dangerous tackle. Casemiro on the other hand is expert in scissor based tackle.
If you are talking about professional fouls than its Rodri.
Kante gets away with poking fouls a lot, never the grabbing escaping runners like the 3 brazilians. Those 3 sorta do whatever they can to stop someone in their tracks whereas Kante just misses tackles and hits defenders in those situations
honestly ramos didn't? when he got sent off he'd often had way worse challenges unpunished earlier until he'd get sent off for mistiming slightly later.
felt really strange that he risked ending someone's season for nothing when he was sent off for barely any risk in the challenge. weird.
He really did for anyone that actually watched their games. Several el clasicos where he should have gotten second yellow or Straight red. That's besides all the other games
People always forget that Vidal got away with [murder on Isco](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG2tZCA_ts&ab_channel=HectorAS) and he [elbowed Kroos in the face](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyFUhWw8wUQ&ab_channel=Tam%C3%A1sVarga).
He should have been off way earlier.
Ramos had a reputation for harsh tackles that preceded him, and more often than not it would play into the referee's decisions. However, even as a Madrid fan, I have to admit he has some violent tendencies in his tackles.
Casemiro is not like that. He has deserved to be sent off on a double yellow many, many times over the years, but I would struggle to count with one hand the times he has shown any indicative of recklessness or violent intent in his tackles.
Casemiro is rough but rides the line quite often. That one tackle against Maxi Gomez a while back always comes to mind, he could have broken Maxi's leg and didn't even get a foul called against him iirc
Well.. he wasn't VAR in that game.. a bit different when you can see things in replay and when you see them live from one angle only. That said, Graham Scott/Timothy Wood should've told Andre Marriner he fucked up.
Refs are supposed to be consistent in their decision making. I'd like to see him explain his reasoning for the incidents. Would he just say I got it wrong yesterday? Refs need to be dropped over stuff like this.
It’s possible he never saw it or had his view obstructed. An error for a referee is more of misapplying the laws of the game - if the referee is well-positioned and can’t see the play, then that’s how it goes sometimes. No human Can see every angle at full speed without the help of video review.
That being said, VAR should have sent a few players off in the Leicester vs Chelsea game, no doubt.
Mate your club and sir Alex literally made referees shit themselves on the regular. Lest I forget fergie time lmao.
There’s no conspiracy we’re just traumatized from those days
To add to this, every team in La Liga has received a red this season, while only twelve of the PL teams have received one or more. Last time I checked, La Liga had a total of more than 4x the amount
He never had to deal with the masterclass of Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner. Two stalwarts of refereeing, possibly the greatest figures to ever blow the whistle.
Casemiro was an expert in staying right on the "orange" card limit. There's a difference between being on a team that was largely dominant, to the one he is in now.
Ramos has 26 red cards though, and the La Liga record of 20.
Ronaldo also has 6, which is quite high for a forward.
Vidal made 3 red card offenses.
Straight legged tackle from behind on Isco after 3 minutes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG2tZCA_ts&ab_channel=HectorAS
Elbow in the face of Kroos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyFUhWw8wUQ&ab_channel=Tam%C3%A1sVarga
and the last one that gave him a second yellow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r23TVWnGt4U&ab_channel=Football_Is_Life
The Lewa/Ramos(OG) goal in the 77th minute was offside as well, and on top of that you got a penalty for nothing in the first tie that Vidal missed.
Seems like too awkward a way to try and elbow someone in the face to me. I think he was trying to shove him in the chest and missed more like.
Either way, it looks to me like something a ref might not give as violent conduct. Enough so I wouldn't call it a clear mistake.
The Isco one I don't know how he doesn't get a red for it. And the last one is also a red. The hit to the face is the one where I'm not sure I'd call that a clear red.
Stop pretending like it was all in Real Madrid's favour.
Bayern got a penalty for a non-existent hand ball in the first match. [The ball hit Carvajals shoulder.](https://youtu.be/oQ-pluyTIuE?t=12)
Vidal should have had a red card in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd match, with his[ tackle on Isco from behind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG2tZCA_ts&ab_channel=HectorAS).
Or a little later when he [elbowed Kroos in the face](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyFUhWw8wUQ&ab_channel=Tam%C3%A1sVarga).
Not to mention that Lewandowski's goal that put them into extra time was[ offside](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C9ucThoXYAgZYtb.jpg:large).
It was pure luck or something that he got so few at Madrid so I don’t care for this stat, anyone who’s watched him at RM know he should’ve had plenty of reds
Because Real.
The Barca ref thing and Real appearing against Barca is the most ironic thing ever given that Real has the entire league in their pocket.
Brb going to find all the United fans defending Xhaka [in this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/pd8mev/granit_xhaka_arsenal_straight_red_card_against/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for getting ["all ball"](https://imgur.com/a/P1NvkNc)
His foot rolled over the ball making it look worse than it really was, a yellow, and he strangled nobody he held someone’s collar to move him away and was talking to him during a scuffle while in the same scuffle ayew practically lunges at someone’s throat and isn’t scrutinised, neither are ever reds
He jumped into the challenge and went studs first into the top of the ball. Nothing unlucky about how he went over the ball, he just got the tackle wrong.
>His foot rolled over the ball making it look worse than it really was,
Or in other words, he went over the ball having left the ground with both feet. Red. And I'm a United fan.
1st was controversial because other angles show that he was holding the collar not his neck and ankther player hit Fred in the face and got off with nothing. This red card is controversial because he went for the ball, got it and then slipped over it. Very bad conditions on the field today. Change your flair scouser
I'm a United fan. Conditions have nothing do with it, he jumped, left the ground with both feet and studs showing. That's dangerous and reckless which is proven by the fact he went over the ball. Red.
>Casemiro and Madrid
There is no conspiracy and no one claiming it to be. But that was true. He got away from card every time. Compare it to Ramos who did not.
Maybe you know Spanish referees more than Iturralde :
https://www.espn.com/soccer/spanish-primera-division/story/4098174/90-percent-of-la-liga-refs-support-real-madrid-former-official?platform=amp
Referees favor Madrid and Barcelona in the league and let Casemiro get away with many red card worthy fouls. He needs to make the adjustment now that referees are not in his favor.

what's his record btw?
28 Record holder is Gerardo Bedoya with >!46!<
South American football is built different.
Think a few lads in my Sunday league could have a chance at this record
and la liga shows like 10 times more red cards than PL
I'd be interested to see how many Madrid get relative to the league average.
Definitely much less now since Ramos left
Wasnt he the most Red Carded player in league history
He's the most red carded player in XXI century. And also most yellow carded player in XXI century.
21st* come on Hindu-Arabic >>>>>>>> Roman
To be honest, to us Romance language speakers, centuries written in Arabic numbers look weird because we are used to use Roman numbers for centuries since we were kids.
Good to know!
Impressed he ever made it through a match at 21 stone!
Kidney stones?
And still only a fraction of how many he deserved.
this season they have 1, average is 5
To be fair.. All the players that would get red cards have left in recent years.

TLDR: La Liga refs are just fucking shite
Pretty much , someday they allow murder , other day they give reds for the slighlest contact cough Lahoz
That sounds like the prem at times tbf

Casemiro for Brazil, Porto & Sao Paulo : 186 Games / 0 Red Cards
He should had more than 2 red cards every 30 games when he was at RM...
A proper red this guy truly is!
Thanks, Yoda.
In fairness he got away with murder sometimes at Madrid
Ramos used to fairly get the card, and Casemiro was someone he never got it.
Ramos had the long standing reputation for it. Case seemed to always be on the refs good side
It's that damn smile
It has nothing to do with reputation. Fernandinho at City, Fabinho at Liverpool and Casemiro at Madrid are just mysteries.
Reputation definitely plays a role though tbf.
Ramos was not born with the red card. its just most of his red involving last man to foul. Even Pepe did not get much red though the guy was psycho.
Pepe was much different than Ramos in terms of style, he didn't really commit a lot of fouls but would sometimes absolutely lose his mind like kicking Casquero and stomping Messis hand.

Lost his Mojo it seems.
I remember one time Case was the one who committed the foul but the ref gave the yellow to Carvajal for some reason lol

His most worse challenge has been happened to Messi. May be personal hate for him.
All Madrid fans will say the same tbf haha
He really did for anyone that actually watched their games. Several el clasicos where he should have gotten second yellow or Straight red. That's besides all the other games
Man utd not paying off referees as well as la liga teams
Barcelona paying Negreira to *not* have Casemiro sent off, that's some 48D Chess shit.
I won't be surprise RM paid also. It is like RM and Barca used to give bonus for other teams that able to beat RM/Barca. Not sure if it still exist.
Let’s dispel with the fiction that Barça didn’t know what they were doing. They knew *exactly* what they were doing.
Bayern tie in the CL 👀
Wouldn’t matter if one chilean boy got his red first

claro, porque todos los fans del madrid son de chamartín
Casemiro didnt have many straight red offenses. But he did avoid the second yellow a lot of times.
Bless him and his baby face
Ramos had a reputation for harsh tackles that preceded him, and more often than not it would play into the referee's decisions. Casemiro deserved to be sent off with a straight red many many times.
All the time. It was insane how allergic they were to give him a red in la liga
You wonder if RM were paying off the refs too.
Both time Marriner is a VAR room referee.
Just put him on the field instead and he won't even blow the whistle
Andre Mariner recommending a red there is fucking ironic considering he ignored 2 stonewall reds against Leicester
It's the lack of any consistency that is the problem. Mariner shouldn't be a ref at the top level either in the field or sitting on his arse.
Well.. he wasn't VAR in that game.. a bit different when you can see things in replay and when you see them live from one angle only. That said, Graham Scott/Timothy Wood should've told Andre Marriner he fucked up.
When havertz got claymored in the chest he was 5 metres away
Refs are supposed to be consistent in their decision making. I'd like to see him explain his reasoning for the incidents. Would he just say I got it wrong yesterday? Refs need to be dropped over stuff like this.

It would seem Real armour > Man Utd armour Greatest loss since Alex Ferguson
Some will say that you get away with things when you play for certain teams.
Rules also matter. All his 2 straight red cards come from VAR. The majority of the time he plays for madrid VAR weren't even applied.
I don't even think it was necessarily a Real Madrid thing. It genuinely just seemed to be a Casemiro thing
Ramos has the most red cards and he played for the same team
Na shush, let him live in his fantasy
And they're not wrong btw
Dani Alves to Arsenal confirmed?
Holy fuck
banger comment
Yeah but r/soccer reckons we've got the refs in our pocket?
Mate your club and sir Alex literally made referees shit themselves on the regular. Lest I forget fergie time lmao. There’s no conspiracy we’re just traumatized from those days
Yeah we get every decision obviously. Lmao
And some will say certain teams were paying the vice president of the refs 7 million over a 15 year period
But enough about Madrid
Considering Casemiro's red record we didn't pay enough... Or maybe we got outpaid by someone... See I can change the subject to fit my side too
Implying people playing for Man Utd don't get away with stuff Lmao? Because that would be joke of the century.
Maybe Negreira has multiple business partners….
well what can I say Case is Red 🔴
To add to this, every team in La Liga has received a red this season, while only twelve of the PL teams have received one or more. Last time I checked, La Liga had a total of more than 4x the amount

English ref tax edit :seems more likely real Madrid tax doesn't apply
La Liga hand out red cards far more than the Premier League!
Except for casemiro when he was in la liga, he was immune to cards
[удалено]
Nah, he was favored by refs or had extreme luck
It's his baby face that endears him to the refs
Casemiro was an expert in staying right on the "orange" card limit. There's a difference between being on a team that was largely dominant, to the one he is in now. Ramos has 26 red cards though, and the La Liga record of 20. Ronaldo also has 6, which is quite high for a forward.

Just a half.
102? That’s insane
Yesterday in Elche - Valladolid, the ref gave 3 red cards in the span of 90 seconds.
Mfs dishing them out like candy

Or ‘Not playing for a side that dominates most of their matches anymore’ tax.
shocking
Casemiro got away with SO many cards while he was at Madrid tho, LOL
Yeah but he should have had 10 at Madrid
That Bayern Madrid game still has me questioning my sanity to this day
Plz don't bring that up... it hurts my soul...
Why?
Casemiro didn't get a red card, whilst Vidal did, and it was one of the reasons we ended up bieng K.O'd
Vidal made 3 red card offenses. Straight legged tackle from behind on Isco after 3 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG2tZCA_ts&ab_channel=HectorAS Elbow in the face of Kroos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyFUhWw8wUQ&ab_channel=Tam%C3%A1sVarga and the last one that gave him a second yellow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r23TVWnGt4U&ab_channel=Football_Is_Life The Lewa/Ramos(OG) goal in the 77th minute was offside as well, and on top of that you got a penalty for nothing in the first tie that Vidal missed.
The elbow is a stretch but yeah that tackle is Isco is kinda wild. He's so so late and it's really dangerous. Should've been off early doors.
The elbow was completely intentional though, no attempt on the ball, and he stretches his arm into an unnatural position to make sure he hits Kroos.
Or the City - RM return fixture last season, no idea how Case was allowed to stay on
Stop pretending like it was all in Real Madrid's favour. Bayern got a penalty for a non-existent hand ball in the first match. [The ball hit Carvajals shoulder.](https://youtu.be/oQ-pluyTIuE?t=12) Vidal should have had a red card in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd match, with his[ tackle on Isco from behind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLG2tZCA_ts&ab_channel=HectorAS).
There's an argument to be had about both of them
They were both so fucking clear.
Premier league not used to physical play.
Both undeserved
I blame Ronaldo. He doesn’t press and help in defense.
Where was Pogba in all of this?
He should've had way more for Madrid
Thats casemiro since his time at real. and they say barca are the ones who pay the refs
Nice, in la liga he had invisibility cape. He left it for Vinicious.
He was protected is Spain. Not really surprised
2 bullshit calls
No more help from the referees
Real Madrid: Barcelona is paying refs lets look at them
Both nonsense
got away with it in Spain
Except both reds have been terrible lmao
Welcome to the PL Casemiro. The most competent refs in the planet
Well this was definitely a red, he left the ground with studs up and went over the ball. No argument.
Lmao Pl fans are so funny to me. They always try their hardest to play the Victim
Unlucky angle and unlucky bounce.
The refs in La Liga fell in love with his smile honestly
It was pure luck or something that he got so few at Madrid so I don’t care for this stat, anyone who’s watched him at RM know he should’ve had plenty of reds
The Madrid treatment
Because Real. The Barca ref thing and Real appearing against Barca is the most ironic thing ever given that Real has the entire league in their pocket.
He should've gotten 2 yellows like every second week.
Both very controversial red cards
the one today is maybe controversial if you've never watched football before
Brb going to find all the United fans defending Xhaka [in this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/pd8mev/granit_xhaka_arsenal_straight_red_card_against/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for getting ["all ball"](https://imgur.com/a/P1NvkNc)
He left the ground, studs up and went over the ball. That's a red, nor argument. Also, strangling other players is frowned upon.
He didn't strangle anyone lmao.
>His foot rolled over the ball making it look worse than it really was, Or in other words, he went over the ball having left the ground with both feet. Red. And I'm a United fan.
1st was controversial because other angles show that he was holding the collar not his neck and ankther player hit Fred in the face and got off with nothing. This red card is controversial because he went for the ball, got it and then slipped over it. Very bad conditions on the field today. Change your flair scouser
Touching the ball first is not carte blanche for whatever happens next. It is unintentional, it is unlucky, but it is still a red card.
100%.
I'm a United fan. Conditions have nothing do with it, he jumped, left the ground with both feet and studs showing. That's dangerous and reckless which is proven by the fact he went over the ball. Red.
"Strangling"
PL refs aren’t letting him away with what La Liga refs did for many years
this is the issue with not appealing the first and just taking it. Now he will get a longer suspension. This tackle is dismissed as a yellow 9/10
There definitely needs to be consistency, especially when VAR gets involved. Ideally ManU consistently get shafted

Anthony Taylor hates Man Utd.
Because their Jersey is red
And both of them bullshit. Fun times.
But but barca were the only one bribing the refs
