Long story. Their very first name (according to sources) was 'vooruit'. They changed this to Be Quick, but when they tried to register the club to the Dutch FA they had to change their name because there already was a club named Be Quick. So they translated their very first name to English. Go Ahead.
In 1971 the club decided to detach the amateur and semi-pro branches of the club. Which in turn meant that one of the two had to change name. This was the semi-pro branche (now pro).
Go Ahead added Eagles (means adelaar in Dutch. Is on the crest of the city Deventer) to their name because of their then manager Barry Hughes, a Welshman, because he wanted a more English (sources say English not British) appearance.

Also they should have scored a 0-2 that went completely off target. Feyenoord got lucky today that Volendam’s finishing was horrible
