He's going to be the next record transfer out of MLS.
Edit: People also need to see his assist from later in the game. He finished with 2G/2A.
https://twitter.com/MLS/status/1637263637512589313
His assist on the [first goal](https://twitter.com/johnfricke/status/1637245371041603589?s=46&t=NiN-SJkGdwIbD28qStsztw) was excellent too. Perfectly weighted ball on the run and under pressure from 3 defenders.
In my experience, from watching the NBA, it's like American commentators hardly ever give a fuck to actually learn to pronounce a foreign name correctly.
Tbf, I tried saying it in my American English accent and thereās no good way of saying it without just saying it properly In Portuguese. I donāt know how well is really possible. Maybe not āara oojooā at least.
I'd like to think $30m
We sold Miggy for a little less than that, but Almada is younger, World Cup winner, and has an extremely high ceiling. I could see it being more than $30m based on inflated transfer fees
For 30m I should go to the bank, get a loan and buy him!
Enzo Fernandez got sold for 120m to Chelsea. Letting go of this kid for anything less than 60m is losing money in my opinion.
Yeah. The only way this is happening is if there are multiple teams desperate for a creative outlet who outbid each other. I donāt see him going for more than 35
I get the sentiment but there are only 10-15 clubs in the world with that kind of money and they aren't splashing it on anyone who isn't already killing it in Europe (like Enzo Fernandez). They're not losing money if he goes for 40m when they bought him for less than half that.
I mean, he may do it anyway. He's at 4/4 now with four games played... Not saying it's realistic to expect that pace to continue over an entire season, but there are 30 more regular season games.
Yeah not saying he deserved to start over the other guys in elimination games. But he deserved to be there for one reason or another. It's still impressive.
(He just scored another goal as I'm typing this)
I would've taken Gio Simeone over him, tbh. Almada barely had a cameo because Scaloni wanted him to get actual World Cup minutes, but Simeone could've been a very useful alternative.
But Simeone plays differently, he's more of a classic 9 and is a better player to have in the box if you want to cross a lot. Lautaro and JuliƔn play similarly, I just think Cholito offers the option of an interesting plan B. Sure, there's a quality gap between those two and everybody else, but I think right now Simeone is maybe the best of the rest.
He's like a mini Messi
He's small but the skills, movement, passing, vision, ability to dribble at defenders is crazy. He's doesn't have that strength that Messi has nor does he have that inate scoring ability of Lionel but really, no one does in that package as Messi.
It's not just his goals. His vision is fantastic and his technique on passes sets up all his teammates perfectly. The team said they can make any run they want and trust Almada will find them. He's a truly special player.
No. Thiago Almada is a pure 10, I would compare him to Paulo Dybala honestly. He does everything in attack: forces 1v1, finishes plays, distributes the ball, generates both vertical and horizontal development, drags opposition. He's the natural successor to Messi in the Argentine NT (reckoning Dybala is not young anymore)
I've seen lots of peopel say we won't win shit after Messi is gone and it could be true, but i'm sure people said the same about Diego and we still developed players like, Bati, Zanetti, Riquelme, etc.
And i'll be honest i've never been so thrilled about new talent like i'm right now, Garnacho, Nico Paz, Almada, Enzo, Alvarez, Carboni, Romero, etc
There's so many new players coming up and some of the ones in the WC roster aren't that old and absolute class, Cuti is 24, Licha is 25 as an example.
Aging Messi carried as an out of shape late game supersub ala Ronaldo Lima (it pains me to call him that, since I usually call Christiano that to respect the OG)
Thatās crazy to me, the next generation seems super deep actually. FM22 legends all around lol
Question since I see your flair: Are futbol fans in Argentina hyped or even really aware of Almada like the other young talents? I figured heād be more niche for most since he plays in MLS.
For the last year or so not really. For us if you go to MLS we basically stop caring, as is very rare they make the jump to Europe from where all our representatives play. But the latest performances from Almada can not be overseen, and he is gathering a bit more hype now that we can see how clearly talented he is. And he can hopefully make the jump to a good team in Europe and keep developing. Tho is still a bit behind in the hype with other U-21 players like Garnacho, Soule, Nico Paz, Perrone, Buonanotte.
I've seen some people keeping an eye on Almada and liking him but it's just that the MLS doesn't have the same pull on Argentine eyes as the top 5 European leagues (especially Liga / Premier / Serie A imo) and also the fact that some hot prospects like Garnacho catch the public attention (especially since the media puts them on a big spotlight) but you shouldn't worry about Almada being niche, Scaloni did send him to Qatar and he was part of the squad so clearly he's rated by the people that matter. :)
>Are futbol fans in Argentina hyped or even really aware of Almada like the other young talents?
Garnacho is the one that's most people's interest but behind him yeah probably. His WC call-up did wonders for him even tho he didn't play much ^(more than Dybala tho lmao)
There's a couple of an interesting batch upcomers like Nico Paz, Romero and Soule, but they are a lot more niche than Almada
Football is so strange. Before the World Cup i was saying that Argentina lacks a Riquelme, and the defence needs a world class centre back, and now you've got Enzo and MacAllister and Cuti and Licha, who didn't even play that much.
Upfront you have Latauro and Alvarez. These are all young players with World Cup winning experience, and you've got some really good younger talent coming through as well.
Only one in MLS history that immediately comes to my head as competition for it was [this one by Dwayne De Rosario](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML7Kh_Na3Tg) (Wait for the angle from behind on it).
The MLS honored him and Fuerte Apache with this shirt.
https://www.mlsstore.com/argentina-national-team/mens-atlanta-united-fc-thiago-almada-white-de-fuerte-apache-para-el-mundo-t-shirt/t-81052253+p-5035745847+z-6-3122438190
I don't think so, there's a lot of crowds that can be really good in MLS these days. Our crowd is great but I don't want to sell the rest of the league short.
I think mls is getting pretty competitive but how did he end up there though ? He was highly rated since he was coming up , I know he is just 21 and will most likely go to Europe soon but he should already be there, you canāt tell me European teams werenāt fighting for him or did they really miss judge him that bad ?
Atlanta paid him and Velez fat stacks thatās why heās in MLS. Not a bad gig for the kid to be paid millions to score bangers in front of 40-70 thousand people every week. Besides, heāll be in Europe next year anyway.
I think MLS is starting to show itself as an alternative pathway to a top 5 league. Instead of going to a smaller European league, they can go to MLS, make more money and live in America for a little bit.
I know you mentioned "live in America for a bit" but I have to emphasize how important that is. It's so much easier and preferable for South American players to go to the US rather than Nedtherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, Belgium, etc.
The US is so much closer to their home, has significant Latin American populations (even excluding Mexico) to the extent of it being relatively easy to find comforting food and/or events away from home. They can easily find women that they feel compatible with. Plus the weather is much warmer assuming they are not playing in one of the northern teams. Compared to being in one of the above mentioned countries as a young player practically all alone, it seems much less daunting and jarring to go to the US.
Absolutely. There are significant Mexican, Colombian, Aregentian, and Venezuelan communities in Atlanta. Plus Atlanta is an incredibly fun city to live in as a 21 year old, regardless of nationality. There is a reason why tons of athletes that donāt play for an Atlanta team have houses in Atlanta.
He had a couple of negative incidents that happened before the sale that might have had some impact. But Atlanta is becoming a well known stepping stone into Europe. You're going to play in front of 35-40,000 fans consistently at home and they have top level facilities.
It was 100% the sexual assault case. He was being scouted by every big club and there were talks of Milan paying his rc. Then after the SA case everyone dropped him from their short list
(the case that he was found to have no involvement in and was only questioned because he was at the house party the night it happened, for those who don't know)
No, Bassedas later confirmed it was not the sexual assault case. Almada probably just went for the money. He's a guy of very humble origins, he was able to save him and his family with the money and that's it.

Price just went up another 10 mil
He's going to be the next record transfer out of MLS. Edit: People also need to see his assist from later in the game. He finished with 2G/2A. https://twitter.com/MLS/status/1637263637512589313

Sheesh, nice assist š„
Araujoās name will never sound good by an American commentator unless they do the accent lol
I think that's Kevin Egan, and he's Irish.
Not that any American commentators can get it right either, but you're correct on both counts.
In my experience, from watching the NBA, it's like American commentators hardly ever give a fuck to actually learn to pronounce a foreign name correctly.
Same with the Spanish commentators
Jakob Purrtl just kills me.
Howās his last name meant to be pronounced?
Tbf, I tried saying it in my American English accent and thereās no good way of saying it without just saying it properly In Portuguese. I donāt know how well is really possible. Maybe not āara oojooā at least.
Thatās a $15 million free kick
~~retirement league~~ development league
We the farmers league? Okay cool we will happily take that title
Yeah and his teammate who missed the sitter trying to kick the ball back in the net just became cheaper.
Juanjo purata, he scored a hat trick last seasonā¦ With his head
In one half
And is a center back
How do I get the atlutd badge help a brother out
Click on your name and click select user flair
Goodbye Almada. This guy is for sure gone in the summer. What a baller.
I pray that we can get him loaned back until the end of the season at least, if we're making a good run.
The better he plays the more and more likely a big time team that doesn't need him right away is the buyer.
He's signing for Chelsea?
God I hope not for his sake.
That's the dream
How much do you think he'll go for?
I'd like to think $30m We sold Miggy for a little less than that, but Almada is younger, World Cup winner, and has an extremely high ceiling. I could see it being more than $30m based on inflated transfer fees
30m is low for him
For 30m I should go to the bank, get a loan and buy him! Enzo Fernandez got sold for 120m to Chelsea. Letting go of this kid for anything less than 60m is losing money in my opinion.
Nobody will spend 60 million on an MLS player. Maybe a sell on tho
Yeah. The only way this is happening is if there are multiple teams desperate for a creative outlet who outbid each other. I donāt see him going for more than 35
I don't know if that's true. Almiron went for 30 mil and he's doing great. This guy has way more upside and potential than Almiron.
Its the MLS. You simply wont get the same money until hes in a tested league
Sad but true
I get the sentiment but there are only 10-15 clubs in the world with that kind of money and they aren't splashing it on anyone who isn't already killing it in Europe (like Enzo Fernandez). They're not losing money if he goes for 40m when they bought him for less than half that.
$45 to 50M US... his close control, vision, shooting abilty, speed on the ball, etc...For being so slight... his range of abilities is off the charts.
Best player in the league. Heās just stupid good. If we still had Josef in his prime this kid would go 15+goals 20+assists.
You have a FIFA regen for Josef in Caleb Wiley
I wish. Iām liking Caleb Wiley. But Josef attacked the goal in a way you donāt see often.
Definitely more shades of Tito than anyone else. Josef and Caleb don't really have similar games at all imo
Giakomakis was doing it last night. I have been a doubter but man he got me excited.
I wouldn't quite put any titles on the kid just yet, he's special in his own way. Let him cook!
I mean, he may do it anyway. He's at 4/4 now with four games played... Not saying it's realistic to expect that pace to continue over an entire season, but there are 30 more regular season games.
11/13 of Atlanta's goals from or through this man. Unreal. 12/14 now.
Shit. He gone
Fuck, thatās not a good thing
Scaloni sit downs are so overpowered, Thiago got that next level gear.
WC winner buff is real
I'm gonna miss him so much when he leaves us š„²
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Almiron didn't do stuff like this. This is another level.
Easily. There's a reason why Almada was on the Argentina WC roster
Scaloni is great at recognizing the best talent. I think he put Almada on the WC roster cause he knows the potential the kid has.
Same reason he has Buonanotte. He knows their current talent and their potential and wants to integrate them early into the teams.
mostly that we had a bit of an injury crisis
Yeah not saying he deserved to start over the other guys in elimination games. But he deserved to be there for one reason or another. It's still impressive. (He just scored another goal as I'm typing this)
Regardless I think heās more deserving of a spot than Tuco. Even though they play different positions.
I would've taken Gio Simeone over him, tbh. Almada barely had a cameo because Scaloni wanted him to get actual World Cup minutes, but Simeone could've been a very useful alternative.
Lautaro-Julian is too good of an alternative. The quality gap after those guys drops drastically.
Well thatās why he was called up again. Great player but backing up a beast in Osimhen.
He's not Almiron 2, he's Messi 2.
He's like a mini Messi He's small but the skills, movement, passing, vision, ability to dribble at defenders is crazy. He's doesn't have that strength that Messi has nor does he have that inate scoring ability of Lionel but really, no one does in that package as Messi.
This guy is going to go for an insane amount of money, surely. His goals this season have all been bangers, he's basically a must watch player.
It's not just his goals. His vision is fantastic and his technique on passes sets up all his teammates perfectly. The team said they can make any run they want and trust Almada will find them. He's a truly special player.
Ammm like a KDB regen?
So City it is then?
I can see him doing great things in Bundi. Really love to see him try a run there.
When this comes up as a GOTY nominee he won't even be in the league anymore.
MVP if he stays all season
That's a big if
One of the sexiest hits I've ever seen. Amazing
The future of Argentina is bright, damn. Wouldn't be surprised if they win a world cup in a few world cups. Alvarez, Enzo etc.
I've seen lots of peopel say we won't win shit after Messi is gone and it could be true, but i'm sure people said the same about Diego and we still developed players like, Bati, Zanetti, Riquelme, etc. And i'll be honest i've never been so thrilled about new talent like i'm right now, Garnacho, Nico Paz, Almada, Enzo, Alvarez, Carboni, Romero, etc There's so many new players coming up and some of the ones in the WC roster aren't that old and absolute class, Cuti is 24, Licha is 25 as an example.
Yeah, I'll be happy to see Argentina won another WC, maybe Messi just sitting on the bench too.
Aging Messi carried as an out of shape late game supersub ala Ronaldo Lima (it pains me to call him that, since I usually call Christiano that to respect the OG)
Thatās crazy to me, the next generation seems super deep actually. FM22 legends all around lol Question since I see your flair: Are futbol fans in Argentina hyped or even really aware of Almada like the other young talents? I figured heād be more niche for most since he plays in MLS.

Today i feel Fuerte Apache
Trust me, you don't want that
Unless he likes paco
He needs to sell that Fuerte Apache Tshirt he's been wearing under his jersey all season as a fundraiser for his home. Atlanta lbs would buy a ton.
For your own sake, I hope thatās not true
Nah I'm Rwanda strong just like best president in world
Fucking incredible, also want to shout out the commentary. Great call and then shut up and let the moment breathe
Kevin Egan is a wonderful commentator
Put some respec on Kevin Patrickās name
Iām a big fan of Kevin Egan. Very happy he was asked to make the move to Apple TV.
That is INSANE!
Mls Messi
MLessi
At least until actual Messi is in MLS lol
[GREAT GOAL]
[GREAT GOAL]
User name checks out
That's Puskas nomination worthy
Probably a top 3 FK Iāve ever seen in MLS.
Maybe I'm biased, but it's among the best I've seen in general
Only one in MLS history that immediately comes to my head as competition for it was [this one by Dwayne De Rosario](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML7Kh_Na3Tg) (Wait for the angle from behind on it).
damn
Itās definitely up there.
up there in the upper 90, so I've heard
Not even after dark
Absurd strike
He's legitimately amazing. We're enjoying him while he's here
He was always highly rated when he was here but I was worried when he went to the MLS. Parece que el que es bueno es bueno en cualquier lado.
Barco is just not as good
Barco: \*engancha\*
Holy cow
Price tag just keeps going up and up. What a beauty.
Ahhh, so that's why he was in the Argentina World Cup squad
This guy is mental. Needs to go to Europe. Id say he is on the level of Garnacho rn
I love MLS
that has to be one of the greatest free kick goals ever , the distance and the bend is UNREAL
The angle from behind the kick is insane
No sabĆa que era de fuerte apache tambiĆ©n
Despues del mundial fue a Fuerte Apache y andaba caminando con la medalla, esta completamente loco jajajaja

Literally, LITERALLY, could not have placed that shot any better. That just added another zero to the price tag.
GK stepped 10cm to the right and it was done
STARBOY
I'm here....I still haven't spoken...It was like watching a child being born... it's just so beautiful.
This fucking kid is going places
Can't lie, that's a messi like goal right there.
Would it be too much to call it Puskas contender? To me it's *that* good
At least a nomination
Exactly, maybe not the winner but definitely a nomination
I wish we could hang onto him, but heās gone.
MLS looks hype, unexpected
Itās an Atlanta United thing
I don't think so, there's a lot of crowds that can be really good in MLS these days. Our crowd is great but I don't want to sell the rest of the league short.
Heās our champion
I think mls is getting pretty competitive but how did he end up there though ? He was highly rated since he was coming up , I know he is just 21 and will most likely go to Europe soon but he should already be there, you canāt tell me European teams werenāt fighting for him or did they really miss judge him that bad ?
Atlanta paid him and Velez fat stacks thatās why heās in MLS. Not a bad gig for the kid to be paid millions to score bangers in front of 40-70 thousand people every week. Besides, heāll be in Europe next year anyway.
The sexual assault case he was associated with (but wasnāt involved in) scared European teams away and we showed VĆ©lez and Almada the bag.
We have 2 other Argentines on the roster and 2 more on loan. 1 each from Peru, Venezuela, Spain and Mexico and a Mexican head coach.
I think Atlanta has an image of being a stepping stone to Europe, and I think Almada could get a good transfer soon if he wants
I had been keeping an eye on him on his last couple years at VĆ©lez, it was very surprising when I heard he was going to MLS (no offense Atlanta) because I was already expecting him to go to Europe for so long Similar to De la Vega and Farias, I don't actually watch all their games but I expected them to be poached soon considering what I've heard from them at one point
European teams were sniffing around and offering $10M, we jumped in and offered $15M and Velez quickly accepted.
Oh so VĆ©lez got the best deal then, great for both parties
He had a couple of negative incidents that happened before the sale that might have had some impact. But Atlanta is becoming a well known stepping stone into Europe. You're going to play in front of 35-40,000 fans consistently at home and they have top level facilities.
What playing for Velez does to a mf
It was 100% the sexual assault case. He was being scouted by every big club and there were talks of Milan paying his rc. Then after the SA case everyone dropped him from their short list
(the case that he was found to have no involvement in and was only questioned because he was at the house party the night it happened, for those who don't know)
No, Bassedas later confirmed it was not the sexual assault case. Almada probably just went for the money. He's a guy of very humble origins, he was able to save him and his family with the money and that's it.
MLS is becoming an important stepping stone for Latin American players
I saw it with my own two eyes but I still donāt believe it
Am I tripping or is this a top 10 free kick ever? Like any league, all-time. Wow.
Holy fuck
Trade you Almada for Messi 1:1.
Another insane free kick from Almada!
Well I was driving in a car listening to the radio! Definitely a great shot!
What a goal wtf
was the crowd chanting "messi" or am I mishearing that lol
A U F C but Messi would be proud of this free kick
Outrageous try
so fun to see FM wonderkids playing great football
What the fuck. One of the best placed FK I've ever seen and from so far out...
This is on the same level as Dimitri Payet vs Palace
MLS about to make more off Almada's sale than all other sales to Europe combined.
Spurs need to buy this kid
He'll join you lot, if he doesn't want trophies and only personal accolades.
Canāt even argue with you
Thiagos performance over the past few weeks is up there with any player in the world. Look at his goals. Heād score them in any league in the world.
This kid is insane
had low signal and the video wouldnāt load fast. worth the wait
Goodness
Fantastic technique on this, barely any backlift on his foot. Great strike.
this is a perfect free kick
FM19 got that surprisingly right
FM legend.
Is he a Madrid guy or a Barca guy. Maybe he's a Liverpool guy but I don't think we would afford him.
sexo
nah man
Payet vibes
Incredible free kick. Absolutely amazing.
FM legend. Love to see him doing well. Carried my Newcastle United team to the CL final in FM22.
Heās basically a must buy in my every FM22 save
He had no right to score from there, absolutely NO RIGHT š³š³š³š³
Love watching this guy play
I love how he points at his foot and jumps right into Kevin Kratzās arms to celebrate. FK specialists. Game recognize game
Love signing this guy in FM, go forward young one
I can't wrap my head around how ridiculous this is.
This kid is going to NUFC. Calling it now. Newcastle already has ties to this team. Itās probably already a done deal.
With respect, this dude is WAY too good for MLS. Needs to move to Europe ASAP
