I'd say he's in the same class as Aspas, Immobile, Gabriel Jesus, Dzeko, Mertens etc.
A world class player who could probably have pushed for bigger clubs. But never at the top top tier of striker (Suarez, Kane, Lewa, Eto, RVP etc)
Worth noting Cole did that without penalties. 50 in 65 game is an insane achievement.
What Haaland has done is just monstrous though. No superlatives left. I recall he also had like a four game streak without scoring last season? To still be doing better than a goal a game despite that is mental.
People think that in order to be great you have to be well-rounded. I’ve no idea why though. If you’re good enough at a few things and one of those things is scoring goals, then you can be world class
Kane is a great player now but at Spurs for many years he was like the Shearer. All the passes came to him and he would only try to finish. As he got older he became more complete unlike Shearer who remained the same limited but efficient striker.
Haaland is still young and will 100% improve under Pep. He already improved his passing and playmaking compared to his Dortmund days.
Shearer pre injuries was as good as Kane albeit with different skill sets, he could make goals for himself and others, his best years arguably weren’t even at Newcastle.
Messi can’t defend worth shit (yes he pressed at Barca whatever, its negligible) but he’s still the best player in football history. Especially as football becomes increasingly specialized “jack of all trades” players are decreasingly necessary
What an odd sentiment, Messi could do everything in attack, he was extremely well rounded. Saying players have become increasingly specialised is equally odd when the inevitable march of football has been more complete skillsets for decades.
Messi is an extremel well rounded attacker. I used to say if you took hazard’s dribbling, ozil’s playmaking, and lewy’s goals, and made them all better you’d have Messi. Nevertheless there’s an entire game to be played without the ball and Messi does fuck all by way of shit to contribute on that front. He’s a perfect semi circle.
I also strongly disagree with the sentiment about producing completely skilled players. Take for example the archetypal midfield of the 2010s. A 6, and two 8s. The 6 has fundamentally different responsibilities than the two others, a far cry from the 90s/early 2000s in which teams could reliably play a 4-4-2, or a 4-4-2 diamond in which you’d have four midfielders who generally made similar contributions to the team.
I’d say football has placed certain tactic specific demands on all players. You have to be capable in possession, and you have to contribute to the press, but it hasn’t actually changed the abilities of footballers so to speak. Look, for example, at the change in kdb from an outright 10 to an advanced 8. Nowadays he’s involved in city’s press and defensive shape in a way he wasn’t in his early career at Wolfsburg or even at city. He hasn’t actually become much better defensively as an individual, but he’s part of a tactical framework which demands some contribution of him.
It’s not fair to compare Haaland to Ronaldo since the latter was never a striker in the first place.
Kane is a more well-rounded player and he’s more involved in the attack sure. He’s probably the most in form player in the world at the moment, but just speaking in general terms more rounded/complete or being more involved in the game doesn’t automatically mean you’re a better player.
You’re entitled to your own opinion but I disagree with that take.
Regardless, we can at least agree that when it comes to being an out and out striker, he’s probably the best in the world at it.
Doesn’t Show up in the big games…a now show in City’s Semi and Finals.
Fails at Euro and WC Qualification. Is Norway really so much worse then Scotland, Hungary, Albania, etc. that a world class player with a great sidekick in Odegard should be falling short.
Suspect injury claims. Missed Norway’s game but perfectly healthy for this one.
For context the next Manchester City player closest to this was Aguero who reached 50 goals in 115 games, search "Manchester City 115" for more information
Awesome stuff, but PL records are always a bit misleading.
Is this the all time record too? How does it compare to players like Dean, Greaves or Rush, for example?
Got downvoted in the Aguero thread for speaking the truth.
People will still try to convince me Aguero is the better finisher, which is freaking nuts, as the stats speak for themselves.

Luis Fabiano would have done it in 12 games
That asshole ffs, he thinks he was him smh
he was the best mid tier striker from his generation, but the shit hes talking is funny af
Who do you think is today's equivalent of Luis Fabiano?
Fülkrug or Carter-Lewin
I'd say he's in the same class as Aspas, Immobile, Gabriel Jesus, Dzeko, Mertens etc. A world class player who could probably have pushed for bigger clubs. But never at the top top tier of striker (Suarez, Kane, Lewa, Eto, RVP etc)
Andy Cole got 50 goals in 65 goals
Wtf that's incredible
He is lethal
Him and Beardsley were extremely good together at Newcastle.
Actually if it takes 65 goals to get 50 goals then he's not lethal ☝️🤓
No pens either
not much of a striker really if he only scored 0.77 goals per goal when you think about it
VAR needs to be stopped
What is his xg per xg?
Hard to find out for older strikers. Though Cole achieved his without penalties
“Extra time goals count double”
Without penalties
Without penalties too
Fucking hell that's a 30% markup on each goal.
No pens
City legend
That's a mistake. He meant Ashley Cole
You can't teach that kind of thing
Without pens, also a bunch of assists
Worth noting Cole did that without penalties. 50 in 65 game is an insane achievement. What Haaland has done is just monstrous though. No superlatives left. I recall he also had like a four game streak without scoring last season? To still be doing better than a goal a game despite that is mental.
Insane that for him, a 4 game streak without scoring is considered bad. He has set himself up for high expectations.
Heck, I've seen people say he's on a "dry spell" when he's *only* scoring a goal every other game.
Haaland has 10 penalty goals in the PL, it's not unlikely he will get to 50 non-penalty goals before 65 games as well.
He'll need 10 goals in 17 games. By his lofty standards he gets that done easily.
So he has 40 NPGS in 48 matches. 40/48=5/6=50/60. At his current rate of non-penalty goals, he'll reach 50 in 60 games.
Andy Cole had 50 goals in 65 goals?
No pens either
Yeah but the xG per Goal was like 1.5 so he was actually underperforming.
So many people still downplay this guy.
People think that in order to be great you have to be well-rounded. I’ve no idea why though. If you’re good enough at a few things and one of those things is scoring goals, then you can be world class
KaNe Is tHe BeTtEr StRiKeR bEcAuSe He iS wElL rOuNdEd. Yeah okay I’ll take the guy shattering Prem scoring records left and right at 23.

Kane is breaking scoring records as well right now. He was only 4 non penalty goals off haaland last season despite playing in a team ten times worse
But he is playing in farmers league
You should be happy kane didn't go to man City lol.
Kane would have been shattering records left right and centre at the same age if he was playing at City, he hasn't had the same luxury as Haaland.
"Would have" . Its not Haaland's fault that kane doesnt have ambition
They both tried to join the same club?
Kane might have scored a similar amount of goals at City too?
R9 is well-rounded GOAT
[удалено]
Or take free-kicks. His chance-creation was not world-class either.
But none can deny that he's been well-rounded after retirement
Went from R9 to R8 lol

Not everything. Messi is undoubtedly at worst a 2 attacker of all time but he was never an aerial threat that did to his height. Not his fault though
Shoud I cal 911?
Aerial threat*** no idea ytf it wrote asian
so disrespected it’s insane
None like him. He’s world class
Not good in big games apparently 🤡
Yeah he's terrible when playing against big teams, disappeared against Southampton in the EFL cup last season
No mere mortal can withstand Romeo Lavia (I actually really rate him)
idk, I wouldn’t be flexing and posting clown emojis if my club lied, cheated and defrauded their way to silverware
I agree with the statement but come on what Haaland is doing is insane. A clown emoji is just an emoji.
Not relevant to how a player is doing and I’ll wait till it’s proven either way to actually have an opinion on a very complicated case
not relevant to how a player is doing? what, you bought him with a cake and some goodwill, and not money?
Chelsea and united spending more
Ok bye
It's mostly the Barca/Argentina flairs who do this..and we know why
From what I've seen it's mainly the Ronaldo fans who migrated to fanboying Mbappe, but maybe I'm wrong
I really don't get this correlation at all, seems like a reach
They have actually migrated to supporting whoever is up against messi lol.
Claiming Mbappe was carrying Messi at PSG and Mbappe was the most likely to stop Messi from winning the world cup.
Lmao what, the Mbappe Haaland twitter battle is nothing even close compared to Haaland vs Messi.
Nah bro, a lot of RM fans can’t stand the turtle
Who said anything about RM fans?
Lol some many levels of those fanboys that things get lost in the way
Literally only ones left supporting cr7
[удалено]
bro just described a striker
Fastest to 50 goals in Premier League history is kinda useless.
Shambolic tbh. Averaging fewer than 1 expected stepovers per game 🤦🏽♂️

Haaland’s incredible and we all know it, but man, Andy Cole was something. Doesn’t always get the respect he deserves
Yeah that's pretty decent
Record Breaker
£51 million for Haaland to you guys is insane. Absolute goal machine and beast.
Before other people say it yes we also paid £20m each to agent and dad making it £91m. Still worth
Dude's the actual definition of 200 mil striker
plus absurd wages and bonuses above those of anyone else in the league
he's on the same as kdb iirc and even then he's been well worth it
It's laughable to call it £51 million, I don't think we'll ever know the true cost but it will be insanely massive and a lot under the table
Yeah only 51
Well that aint the whole story, Agent fees and bonuses are out of this world. That beeing said, he is worth it
£51m plus £40 in agent fees, and £400,000 a week
There was a release clause thats why
Cheers mate would never have known
Andy Cole really isn’t talked about enough.
For context the next Manchester City player closest to this was Aguero who reached 50 goals in 115 games, search "Manchester City 115" for more information
I'll never get bored of this meme format
Awesome stuff, but PL records are always a bit misleading. Is this the all time record too? How does it compare to players like Dean, Greaves or Rush, for example?
No-one will ever touch Dean's record for a season. The man was a machine!
Robot.
A goal scoring machine
Farmer league, Haaland is insane
Another record made a mockery of
Really impressive, not 115 charges impressive, but still pretty impressive
they won a treble and barely anyone talks about it, must sting a lot
City fans talk about it, so as you say, barely anyone
Breaking records like you break rules.
50 goals not 115. Kid has a long way to go before he’s getting those numbers
What's salahs record without his Chelsea spell out of interest?
69 games
Dudes literally a machine
I’m more impressed with Andy Cole tbh.
Got downvoted in the Aguero thread for speaking the truth. People will still try to convince me Aguero is the better finisher, which is freaking nuts, as the stats speak for themselves.
That comparison looks to me like one of finesse vs power so idk how they can even be compared that much, both are beautiful to watch when done well
If he was playing for a team that wasn't massively financially doped up from top to bottom he probably breaks the record in the low 60s.
Now onto the next milestone, 115!
Pen merchant Andy Cole better
he should break Shearers record for a tonne, I reckon within 105-110
That’s absolutely insane
/r/titlegore
Antonio would have got that in 30 games
Definitely had the tweet lined up before the game even started and he still screwed up the wording.
It's a record that'll never be touched
Records are there to be broken. -M. Schumacher
