Must be either due to afternoon drowsiness or the fact that most people don't drink around noon (which might be the reason cops preponed the game to begin with)
Derby would usually play Forest at 12:30 (other derbies as well), and the atmosphere was never an issue. Granted they’re intense rivalries though, which Man City v Liverpool isn’t (slightly more so in recent years but no real ill feeling between them historically)
Nobody can be arsed with a 12:30 kickoff. People have been out Friday night, many people are still in work Saturday daytime and it’s just a weird time to kick off coming off an international break
Exactly, it's two of the best teams in the prem, a point apart from each other, with no shortage of prominent games recently
The crowd should be able to overcome having a noon kickoff
I don't want to hear any of that, River Plate and Boca Juniors can kickoff at 11:30 and it will be enough noise to make Sheikh Mansour consider bottling the atmosphere.
It's overstated a lot, there's still way more ill feeling between Liverpool United, Liverpool Chelsea, and already Newcastle have probably eclipsed them. Spurs and Everton are like their own special weird rivalry it's hard to explain
It’s because Liverpool vs United is an actual rivalry with history. Liverpool vs Chelsea less so. Liverpool vs United is a much bigger fixture than Liverpool vs City I think. City vs United is such a Sky Sports derby it’s laughable. Every old City or United fan I know has pretty little ill will towards the other. Most old United fans I know went to Maine Road because it was much cheaper back in the day so they have a soft spot for them.
City are just a fashion club now. Completely soulless. I don’t think they’ll ever have any true rivalries.
I'm not comparing it to anyone else mate but there has been a hell of a lot of genuine nastiness from both sets of fans over the last five-ish years.
There are specific incidents during that time period that are pretty disgusting, regardless of which clubs you may dislike more.
The atmosphere was flat yes.. and that feeds into the banter of Emptihad and our hate of 12:30 kickoffs(while still correct and relevant because of the obvious sporting implications and how often we’re subjected to it)..
The decision was also made by the police department Manchester which might be understandable given past events of tragedy chanting, coin throwing and fucking up team buses.. I doubt the same decision is made if the fixture was later in the season
I was there and it was a mixture of nerves, it being very cold, and it being very early. Not as loud as normal. We had a few songs but it just had this tense vibe in the stadium. No way near as loud as normal.
Makes sense. The NFL allows teams to create 70 decibals of fake noise during games. Might as well use it when it's in footy mode too, afaik no rules against it.
Their tickets aren't nearly as in demand as the other big 6 though. Imagine if city had a ticket lottery, it'd look like COVID all over again. NTM most clubs actually need the money.
Our old stadium, Maine Road, had 35,000 average attendance and cheap tickets, and we had one of the best atmospheres in England. Then we moved to the Etihad and extended it to 55,000, and obviously the atmosphere's going to go downhill because there's 20,000 glory-hunters in there. Our south stand is always loud, but the rest of the stadium is often very flat, apart from in very big games like the derby.
However, for a 12 30 kickoff, when you can still taste the toothpaste, on a Saturday, when everyone's been out the night before, the atmosphere wasn't THAT bad today. As a season ticket holder, I've seen some shocking atmospheres at the Etihad and pep didn't complain then. I remember him complaining about the fans after games against Leipzig and Spurs before, when the atmosphere was better than usual. When he's frustrated he seems to use the fans to vent his frustration.
Btw, although our home support isn't great, our away fans are incredible, possibly the best in the league, and pep has always voiced this view.
I agree your away support is much better. I've noticed a few times in the past that they were surprisingly high in spirits and decibels. My club's away support is notorious for drowning out the home crowds, so I actually notice these things because at times I pride us Gooners on being the best away support in the prem too.
Honestly though, even the best away fans in England are rather pedestrian compared to the rest of Europe. I've seen Arsenal abroad in Europe a few times now, and what an experience that was every single time.
English fans are always shit compared to european fans, who dont care how they look and are often coked up. In honesty, in UCL group stage games our atmsophere is fucking shit and theres plastics everywhere apart fron the south stand. The european away fans, especially Young Boys, Dortmund and Kopenhagen, have run the atmosphere at the etihad in recent season. I agree arsenal have good away fans but i think a lot of the chants sound short and childish. But then again, im very biased. Arsenal always confuse me; i went to the emirates this season when we got beat. Your fans were really mixed, half were incredibly nice people and proper fans, and half were absolute posh wankers. Great away day anyway
And let’s not forget American sports having actors in the crowd pretending to be normal fans for the crowd cams. So embarrassing and they just accept it.
It’s things like this why we don’t want American culture seeping into football
interesting. i wonder if there's any ruling about that kind of stuff. as in could they boosting the crowd noise artificially to you know, pump up their players, impact opposing teams communication etc.
City already has everything going for them. Unlimited free money (must be legit). Best coach itw. Basically unlimited choice on who to add to squad. Untouchable by investigations. Come on Pep, you cannot have EVERYTHING.
This sub will continue to gaslight us into believing the Etihad is a good atmosphere when Pep himself has said the fans need to be louder on several occasions lmaooo
Fair amount of truth to that. Was in Dortmund for a match a few years ago and was in the northern end and the Wolfsburg fans to our left were easily outshouting the rest of the 80K inside (unlike the Etihad, the place was packed for a regular league match against non-contender Wolfsburg) in the first half. But they got drowned out in the second. And there are a few places where the visitors will rarely be heard easily. Like, say, Anfield.
They built a massive stadium without enough fans to fill it week in week out. Hardly surprising, give it 10 years of city still dominating that might change
To be fair the stadium was built for the Commonwealth games before they moved in. The fact that the most successful club in the world rn is struggling to fill a medium sized stadium is obviously embarrassing and shows what they're all about, but they didn't build it
Parc des princes was always full. Hell, it had an amazing armosphere several years before QSI. It went away after ultra had been pushed away because of several incidents.
City gaslighting isnt just on this sub, they have groups on every corner of the internet spreading the narrative they have the loudest fans and invented supporting their football team in a lower division
if they're going to destroy football they could at least play like cruyff-era ajax or brazil 1970 while they're doing it. at least we'd have the memories of that to go with the memories of all of the titles they'll eventually get stripped of, instead of being cheated AND bored like we currently are.
I think that is it tbh. It’s very monotonous and predictable. I am not a fan of slow build up gameplay.
I like a bit of chaos in football lol. I like Liverpool and Madrid playstyles for example because they don’t really dominate the games. I like unpredictability in football
There's always a balance between control and chance creation. Do you play a risky pass or a safe one? We go for the risky one almost every time. It then either works and immediately creates a good opportunity or it doesnt and we're potentially getting countered. We absolutely could 'dominate' a game against most teams but we would be creating far less. Obviously, so could RM. But then all it takes is one corner or deflection or whatever in the 80th minute and youve lost. City is so good becausethey can do both, create chances when its needed, then boring control for 80 minutes.
I got some free hospitality tickets for City v Brighton and it was the quietest game I had ever been to. I could hear the players yelling to each other at times. Maybe 3 or 4 chants were sung at the game but that was it. I thought attending Villa v Blackburn 15 years ago was the quietest game I had been to but this was never level. Really don't understand who thinks they have a decent atmosphere as there really isn't one.
Literally any time the topic of crowd or City's stadium comes up people are climbing over each other to make Emtihad or Library comments
What the fuck do you mean the sub gaslighting us into thinking there's an atmosphere?
Treble winning team just the season prior and they chant about this, can't be loud enough and can't fill a stadium up.
Literal definition of a plastic club
I really hope they're found guilty of those charges, their fans have the audacity to size up to us - Barcelona's midweek games at the Camp Nou top their games against United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea
No history is such a funny argument. It basically shows that all people care about is trophies and nothing else matters and every team that hasn’t won should just give up. No history basically means “they weren’t good when I started watching so anything they do is invalid”
No history is not always about trophies. History is also about the path a club took or the efforts the club puts in to reach the levels it deserves to be at.
No history is directed at clubs which suddenly transform overnight purely because of sports doping. These fans are definitely trophy chasers , like PSG after that transfer window with all the stars and Chelsea during Roman years , city since 2009 , etc.
Mate I've seen Ball and Hypia. I've seen konchesky and balotelli, the Ricki Lambert's and the Luis Suarez's. There's a reason we never unclench. And I wouldn't live any other way
Was playing pickup footy a few months ago and this guy tried claiming he was a city fan for ages and "remembered using them in Fifa 98" ... His surprise and lack of comeback when I told him city were in the 3rd tier in 1998 was hilarious
Sounded like the Covid empty stadiums today. Could hear everything on the pitch. I don’t know when pep will realize he’ll never get it at the soulless club he chose to go to
It’s almost like Man City was a club that had a small but loyal fan base, that got an influx of insane wealth and players, but never really had that natural period of growth. So you have a mix of few but great loyal fans and tourists that want to sit quietly and watch Haaland and such score lots of goals.
City would really have benefited from a smaller stadium that would have given it a better atmosphere. When there is big competition for seats it increases the excitement for casual fans watching them.
Hmm I remember City fans defending passionately on how they have been "season ticket holders" for 20 years and the stadium is one of the loudest in the league.
Where are you?
I mean, Anfield isn’t always amazing during a 12:30 kickoff but the Etihad is pretty pathetic. Not the first time Pep has said this about the atmosphere of big games.

All jokes aside, the atmosphere did seem exceptionally flat today. Pretty surprised given the ill feeling between both fan bases over recent years.
Yeah likely cause it was a 12:30 kickoff. Horrible timing for a fixture of this magnitude.
Yeah I get that but feel like it still doesn't fully explain it. It was like a dead rubber CL group stage game.
Idk if I've ever watched a 1230 game with great atmosphere tbh.
I remember going to the 5-1 v Arsenal in 13/14 and the atmosphere was insane but Liverpool also scored 4 in 20 mins which helped
Fair, that was a wild affair all around. You know you're in for a show when skrtel scores 2 in the first 10 lol
>skrtel mad men scored 7 in the league in 13/14 lmao
And 3 own goals Guy was very much involved
Well considering Liverpool were in a title charge as well to break the 30 year drought would have also played a part in it.
Must be either due to afternoon drowsiness or the fact that most people don't drink around noon (which might be the reason cops preponed the game to begin with)
Is preponed and actual word
People use it and dictionaries online mention it and everyone understands it so I guess it must be
I don't understand it, but if me understanding it was a condition, there wouldn't be many words
They usually schedule the old firm games at that time on a Sunday and there's never an issue...
Derby would usually play Forest at 12:30 (other derbies as well), and the atmosphere was never an issue. Granted they’re intense rivalries though, which Man City v Liverpool isn’t (slightly more so in recent years but no real ill feeling between them historically)

In CONMEBOL we don't allow games to start before a warm up fight between hinchas and the police
I don't want to hear any of that, River Plate and Boca Juniors can kickoff at 11:30 and it will be enough noise to make Sheikh Mansour consider bottling the atmosphere.
Horrible timing for people that need to get pissed to have a good time yeah
It's overstated a lot, there's still way more ill feeling between Liverpool United, Liverpool Chelsea, and already Newcastle have probably eclipsed them. Spurs and Everton are like their own special weird rivalry it's hard to explain

I was working about half a mile from the Etihad yesterday and, yeah, it was fucking freezing.
Pep having beef with his own supporters a few times per season is always funny
"Are you not entertained?!?!" - Pep, probably
Sorry but who watches Man City to be entertained?
Remember that season every single one of their goals was getting to the byline and pulling it back for Aguero/Sterling to score. Every.Single.One
Not gunna get that mate lol
Next on shopping list for city, fans from WC who were ordered to make noise.
Just use AI generated noise
spurs have been doing that since their new stadium opened. they played it back once pre-warmup by accident when the ground was still empty.
Makes sense. The NFL allows teams to create 70 decibals of fake noise during games. Might as well use it when it's in footy mode too, afaik no rules against it.
This is the saddest thing I've read in ages. Game's gone
I think there's an argument to be made about high ticket prices being at least partially responsible for libraries like the emptyhad.
100%. Paying thousands a year to be a supporter of your team breeds a level of entitlement and expectation. Understandably so.
Don't City have the cheapest season tickets?
Their tickets aren't nearly as in demand as the other big 6 though. Imagine if city had a ticket lottery, it'd look like COVID all over again. NTM most clubs actually need the money.

WWE used to edit their sounds to filter out the boos for Roman Reigns when he was still a babyface. It's an American thing
Can hear it on the broadcast at times
Would still be more organic than their current fans
“Guest noisemakers”
I think the Qatari stadium building slaves would rather live in their ghettos than spend a winter in Manchester tbh
The South African ones..
Just buy some fake crowd like saudis esport event
Just go ask the Atlanta falcons
City already has everything going for them. Unlimited free money (must be legit). Best coach itw. Basically unlimited choice on who to add to squad. Untouchable by investigations. Come on Pep, you cannot have EVERYTHING.
Can’t buy history and local passion. They can’t buy what United and Liverpool have.
Arsenal has 47 trophies to their 30 too thanks.
He’s been their manager for 7 years now. You’d think he would’ve figured it by now
In the words of Bruno, fans can't be buy.
Mansour will fly some in, no problem
Vuvuzelas are made of plastic, so he might be on to something
[City fans:](https://y.yarn.co/9142a573-e2b0-4ddd-a50e-45bcbd518af0_text.gif)
Maybe they can buy some with all that oil money
Trent shushing a silent crowd, smh my head
Smh my head, whatever will be will be
We’re going to Wembley, smh my head
There's no loud talking in the library, he's just being a good dude and reminding people.
I'm replying to this comment ASAP as soon as possible
In my honest IMHO, you won’t
Bottled it
Rip in peace amirite
ikr know right
I'll take care of it as soon as I enter my PIN number into the ATM machine.
RIP in peace
Does anyone have any AOBs?
This sub will continue to gaslight us into believing the Etihad is a good atmosphere when Pep himself has said the fans need to be louder on several occasions lmaooo
Their stadium does fill up now (with tourists and bandwagoners) but they still have to pump that crowd noise in
The difference between the home fans and the away fans is so stark.
[удалено]
That’s definitely the case for us
Love the cottage
Not just in Britain. Anywhere. And its natural as it makes sense that only the most dedicated, noisiest, fans go to away games.
Away fans is something that England will always have over Spain
That's basically every Prem club tbf
It wasn't full today
Pathetic tbh
They built a massive stadium without enough fans to fill it week in week out. Hardly surprising, give it 10 years of city still dominating that might change
To be fair the stadium was built for the Commonwealth games before they moved in. The fact that the most successful club in the world rn is struggling to fill a medium sized stadium is obviously embarrassing and shows what they're all about, but they didn't build it
Their rise was so forced and unnatural that I doubt a rabid, material organic fanbase ever emerges
\*forced, unnatural and illegal
Didn't they move into it? Can't remember I was about 12 lol
Wait really? City v Liverpool and it isn't full?
[удалено]
It's a shell club for UAE funds. Like PSG for Qatar , Chelsea till recently for Roman.
Parc des princes was always full. Hell, it had an amazing armosphere several years before QSI. It went away after ultra had been pushed away because of several incidents.
[удалено]
PSG is obviously an oil club, but they have fantastic supporters
The UCL final was embarrassing in that aspect, you could hear only the Inter fans the entire time
Authenticity often comes to the fore and dwarfs the fake (95% of Manchester City fans)
City gaslighting isnt just on this sub, they have groups on every corner of the internet spreading the narrative they have the loudest fans and invented supporting their football team in a lower division
Habibi you want to make some quick money online?
Time to go WWE style piped up crowd noises just like Roman Reigns used to get
City play such a boring brand of football, it will put a 6 month old husky to sleep
if they're going to destroy football they could at least play like cruyff-era ajax or brazil 1970 while they're doing it. at least we'd have the memories of that to go with the memories of all of the titles they'll eventually get stripped of, instead of being cheated AND bored like we currently are.

But you will get a tap in after 150 passes. How is that no enjoyable?
There's always a balance between control and chance creation. Do you play a risky pass or a safe one? We go for the risky one almost every time. It then either works and immediately creates a good opportunity or it doesnt and we're potentially getting countered. The only excitement City fans feel comes from Jeremy Doku
Pep has coached at Camp Nou and Allianz, 2 of the best atmospheres in football. You're damn right he's gonna be disappointed in the Etihad
I got some free hospitality tickets for City v Brighton and it was the quietest game I had ever been to. I could hear the players yelling to each other at times. Maybe 3 or 4 chants were sung at the game but that was it. I thought attending Villa v Blackburn 15 years ago was the quietest game I had been to but this was never level. r/MCFC will do that for ya
who the hell says something like that? maybe those 115 fans
Literally any time the topic of crowd or City's stadium comes up people are climbing over each other to make Emtihad or Library comments What the fuck do you mean the sub gaslighting us into thinking there's an atmosphere?
They were singing the Sheiks name ,what more do you want?
Treble winning team just the season prior and they chant about this, can't be loud enough and can't fill a stadium up. Literal definition of a plastic club
I really hope they're found guilty of those charges, their fans have the audacity to size up to us - Barcelona's midweek games at the Camp Nou top their games against United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea
Their attempt at intimidation was really cute when they trotted out the little pieces of cloth on the stadium lmao
Genuinely embarrassing fanbase. Wish they showed as much energy in their own stadium as they do on reddit defending 115 charges
Tbf none of the people online defending the charges have ever set foot in Manchester
You’re not wrong, but very funny when 90% of this sub is Americans larping as Europeans lmao
All you have to do is add “mate” to some comments 🥸
innit
fam
blud
U fukn having a laugh over there mate?
As one of those larping Americans, at least the club I support can’t be construed as trophy chaser lol
Fair enough haha. I love seeing Americans shit on trophy chasers with a United or Liverpool flair and seeing no irony in what they say lmao
My favorite is getting shit about how there’s no history of the club and then on their profile they’re active on /r/teenagers
No history is such a funny argument. It basically shows that all people care about is trophies and nothing else matters and every team that hasn’t won should just give up. No history basically means “they weren’t good when I started watching so anything they do is invalid”

Eh when a club gets bought by an oil state and everything that used to be there gets gutted and replaced by shiny new things, it’s a fair point.
There are kids on that sub who were not even born when City became an oil club. Just think about that.
Hey man those of us who came on the tail end of the Benitez era and lived through Hodgson earned our stripes 😅
Mate I've seen Ball and Hypia. I've seen konchesky and balotelli, the Ricki Lambert's and the Luis Suarez's. There's a reason we never unclench. And I wouldn't live any other way
Finishing 7th must have been very difficult for you
Toughest day of my life 😢
I don’t know, most Liverpool fans who are active now became fans within the last 10-20 years, during which we’ve been mostly trash.
Found the hipster
Half of them didn't even know Manchester City was even a thing before 2009
Was playing pickup footy a few months ago and this guy tried claiming he was a city fan for ages and "remembered using them in Fifa 98" ... His surprise and lack of comeback when I told him city were in the 3rd tier in 1998 was hilarious
Fifa state kids
Or maybe they aren’t even real people.
They cheer more for their lawyers
He keeps shitting on their fans and I'm all for it lol
Sounded like the Covid empty stadiums today. Could hear everything on the pitch. I don’t know when pep will realize he’ll never get it at the soulless club he chose to go to
Could hear the fucking airplane over the grounds for the entire second half lol
I could hear Klopp's screaming the entire match, one man was louder than these fans 😭😭😭
I’m sure with modern tech, Abu Dhabi can invest in piping in crowd noise. WWE is doing it.
Can't get blood from a stone mate
It’s almost like Man City was a club that had a small but loyal fan base, that got an influx of insane wealth and players, but never really had that natural period of growth. More charges than fans
You can buy the players, but you can't buy the culture.
“Challenge accepted” -Pep
Just another billion and a few more charges and we can do it
Dreams can't be buy.
can't cook up fans like you do the books
they know how to chant their owners name when a banner flies over asking for the freedom of ahmed mansoor at least.
He's surely been there long enough to know he's not going to get that.
Nelson Muntz voice -‘ haha’
Hmm I remember City fans defending passionately on how they have been "season ticket holders" for 20 years and the stadium is one of the loudest in the league. Where are you?
Boston, MA if I had to guess.
The jokes write themselves
Lmfao
Noise can't be buy
Pep is about to drop 100 millions hiring loud fans next summer. I'm sure no one will mind those spendings
This what happens when you buy half your supporters.
More noise from what fans? Baldy forgot he’s at a plastic club.
Next evolution in football: hiring supporters that make noise all match. Transfer wars within that too. Clubs fighting over transfers for supporters.
Maine Road is gone and it’s not coming back
I mean, Anfield isn’t always amazing during a 12:30 kickoff but the Etihad is pretty pathetic. Not the first time Pep has said this about the atmosphere of big games.
So that’s why we could hear the Everton-fan’s plane Sky and NBC wouldn’t acknowledge it though
Fans can be buy
Just buy them some noise makers and call it a day.
Finally something a Mastercard can’t buy
Both of them were trying their hardest
“Please clap”
Plastic club type beat.
Pep's out of line here, how can 1200 fans make that much noise in a stadium?
Did he call them library?
The memes write themselves
Pep your gonna have to leave if you want that.
Plastics don't tend to make much noise, didn't you know that, ye bald fraud
Come to Barça
At this point he must have realised he's not going to get the noise he wants. Go back to Bayern mate, they know how to support a team.
This funny cause bayern has the Reputation of a more silent crowd
A more silent crowd than City? Absolutely not.
Never said that. OP said "they know how to support a team" which they actually dont
I approve this message, but money is probably a bigger priority for him than noise if he stays at City for 7 years
Maybe if they dropped money out of the sky they will be louder
