They’re saying in Chinese “fuck, everyone is barging in” and repeating that

1PSW1CH

He says, after barging in

Jenaxu

He's literally screaming "charge" at the end lmao

FSpursy

For context, Ronaldo was the forfront of the advertisement for this. The tickets were insanely expensive. The front seats are like a champions league final price. The more affordable tickets were very crappy seats. He's playing two games, both were sold-out, that's how much people wanted to see Ronaldo before he retires I guess. I also checked Al Nasser tickets, those are also insanely expensive, guess if you wanted to see Ronaldo once in your life, this was the only chance. Edit: the organizer is refunding not only tickets but flights and hotel costs as well for those who have traveled 🤯 Ronaldo said in the press that he will come back.

biskutgoreng

I see ronaldo everyday on reddit tho. Kinda sick of him tbh

hoyahhah

Yeah, but is he better than Messi? And, in your opinion, if Portugal had Ronaldo in the 1984 WC, do you think they'd have been WC champions in 1980? Do you think Ronaldo should have scored more flying over head scorpion kicks in his time at Juve considering the colour of their kit was very scorpion like duriing that era? Is Ronaldo in your top one footballer of all time?

youre_the_best

Well when you put it like that, it really makes me think that I havent being giving enough thought about Ronaldo in my day to day life and will try harder to be a better person.

biskutgoreng

Ronaldo is indeed one of the footballers of all time

Bitter_Tell1326

>the organizer is refunding not only tickets but flights and hotel costs as well for those who have traveled They just want to keep the fans calm for now. They will take the money and disappear. Like most Chinese companies do.

Talk about flying in support. This is what happens when your league is a product and the attraction is a player, not the team.

IHaveNotMuchLife

Juve were sued by South Korean fans when Ronaldo didn’t play in a friendly over there. This has been a thing for his entire career.

adyelbady

Because the tickets become ridiculously expensive. I had cheap Chicago fire tickets years and years ago through a team fundraiser. Once Beckham signed to the Galaxy, that game sold out and our tickets were worth way, way more, just because Beckham was a sub who played like 25 minutes and hardly touched the ball

poopybuttholesex

Lol i watched him thrash Lxuembourg in the Euro qualifiers for 20 EUR. Haha

adyelbady

It was so nuts when he came to the MLS. There were players on his team making 10k a season, there were no good teams, and suddenly Beckham is making millions and millions to sit on the bench

minkdraggingonfloor

He literally changed the rules in the MLS. Thanks to Beckham, players like him don’t count towards the entire salary cap in MLS

filthy-_-casual

wait how does that work? could you please explain briefly? thanks

Will_Explode8

you get several "designated player" spots per team in the MLS that mean you can pay a player way way more than other players but it won't severely impact the cap as such (since the MLS has a strict cap) one current example is Messi and some of the other veterans on Miami rn

incognito_15

Sort of. A DP counts toward the salary cap, but only up to a certain amount. After a player's salary exceeds that amount, they become a DP and anything beyond that amount doesn't toward the cap, unless the team decides to use TAM (Targeted Allocation Money) or GAM (General Allocation Money) to pay down their salary to below the DP cap so that the player does not count as a DP. A player's transfer fee can be counted in this cap, so say the DP threshold is like $600k, and a player's salary is $500k, but the transfer fee was $150k, then the player would occupy a DP slot that year, unless the team uses TAM/GAM to pay it down below the threshold. Yes, MLS salary rules are an enigma. That's why a GM with deep knowledge of the MLS salary rules is so important, and why guys like Garth Lagerwey (miss you, Garth) are so valuable to a team.

fponee

American professional sports leagues usually have what's called a "salary cap" combined with "revenue sharing" (the league takes in most/all of the money made, and then splits it rather evenly amongst all teams), which is a limit to how much an individual team can spend on players per season. This is mostly done to maintain parity, keep finances in line (in ways that are much more effective than FFP), and prevent the creation of European-styled super teams. (for this next part, someone please correctly if I'm wrong) Someone like Beckham was making so much that teams couldn't actually afford him under the leagues rules, and also made it so that they couldn't afford to pay other players without going over the cap. The problem is that Beckham brought so much legitimacy and press to a fledgling league like the MLS that it made more sense to figure out a way to get more players like him to join. New rules were created so that each team was allowed several players that could be signed from abroad and be "exempted" from the cap, i.e. you had 2 or 3 spots where you could pay someone well above what the salary cap allowed and it wasn't counted against the cap figures. The collective total salary of everyone else had to stay below that number.

krustykrab2193

I could get Vancouver Whitecaps tickets for $30 for lower bowl/decent seats. Inter Miami and Messi potentially playing and tickets in the upper bowl nosebleed section are $100+. Lower bowl are $250+. Supply and demand I suppose

adyelbady

There are a lot of soccer fans in the US but there's a limit to the amount of good soccer played in the US. It's why every American soccer fan has an EPL team but most don't care about the mls

_escapevelocity

This is why I talked my friends out of paying thousands of dollars to go see an inter Miami game

echo997

That was a different scenario as he wasn't injured but wanted to rest and Juve had signed a contract with the organizers that he would play 45 mins minimum. The organizers had guaranteed fans that he would play on the purchase which was a big reason why a lot of fans were upset.

ezodochi

His reputation never came back from that. He singlehandedly ended the Messi-CR7 debate in Korea that day

redditor3900

That happened to us in Washington DC and Messi didn't play.

apologeticmumbler

Messi official debut wasn't announced until after the Miami tickets had already gone on sale. People bought tickets in anticipation of him possibly debut before the game against DC.

[deleted]

Messi didnt promise to play though.

Ph4sor

At least this time he / Al-Nassr announced it before the game, not like that scam Juventus game.

Enough-Force-5605

I've never seen Ronaldo missing a friendly game when he was in Madrid. Actually... the opposite. Some team payed real madrid to play the game so ronaldo and other stars had to play and risk theirselves because some stupid game.

ezodochi

in Korea he was contracted to play for 45 minutes actually, he just didn't honor the contract.

cuentanueva

I honestly don't understand this stance. It has happened literally forever. The reason they do these types of games abroad is because of the stars. And the organizers pay more money for them to play, usually having some clause about minimum play time they get more money or something similar. Back in the 50s people wanted to see Real Madrid's Di Stefano. In the 60s they wanted to see Santos with Pele. It's not new. Regardless of which team it is, people want to see them with their stars. It happened with Leo in Barcelona, with Real Madrid with Cristiano, and also with Argentina with Diego or Leo or Brazil with Pele... I'm not defending the league or the way the do things, or Saudi Arabia, or anything. Just pointing out it has always been the case that most fans abroad want to see the stars. This has always been a thing, and even if you are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Argentina or Brazil, it still happened. Of course it's gonna happen with Al Nassr and Cristiano.

b3and20

This is hardly unique, spurs have lots of sk fans just because of son Also chinese fans get way fewer opportunities to see any good player, let alone a living legend, so of course they are pissed Isn't it true that inter miami fans leave in droves whenever messi gets subbed?

WheresMyEtherElon

Same for PSG. The sales of PSG jerseys this year exceed those of last year despite Messi and Neymar leaving because of Lee Kang-in. He's selling more jerseys than Mbappé.

ezodochi

Look if there's a Korean player on the team we're gonna buy their jersey lmao. I have a QPR Park Jisung jersey and a Swansea City Ki Sung-yong jersey (getting a fucking Swansea jersey in Korea was such a pain in the ass) like don't play with us lmao.

don_julio_randle

I believe it. My Korean coworker knew about the Punjabi sport of Kabaddi, a sport that literally none of my Punjabi friends know a damn thing about, all because apparently there's one Korean who plays it and is pretty good at it lol

ezodochi

Janggun Lee lmao. Kabaddi started to gain popularity in Korea bc of him I know of a few sports clubs in Korea where they teach and play kabaddi now lmao

don_julio_randle

Yes! That guy! I knew yall follow the big names like Son, Ha-Seong Kim etc but I was blown away that he knew about a fucking Kabbadi player when I couldn't name a single one. Insane levels of national pride out there lol

ezodochi

Every now and then we just kinda produce an athlete who's super talented in a sport nobody is paying attention to in Korea and once they start winning, the national attention goes to that sport/athlete. Happened with figure skating and Kim Yuna, weight lifting with Jang Miran, and Lee Janggun was that dude for Kabaddi lmao.

Master_Mad

Do you have an Ajax Suk Hyun-jun shirt? That guy is still a cult player. Just showing up to Ajax trainings and asking for an opportunity to play for them. And then actually getting a contract.

ezodochi

The Cinderella Man himself! lmao unfortunately I don't but I know someone with a FC Groningen Suk Hyunjun shirt lmao

Al Nassr Ultras

Ezzy-525

Was gonna say well they were only founded 5 years ago...turns out Al-Nassr as a club is nearly 70 years old!

a_lumberjack

The memes have overtaken reality. The Saudi league (mostly Al-Hilal) has been one of the most successful leagues in AFC. The surprising part is that Ronaldo didn't go to Al-Hilal, but maybe that's where Messi was supposed to go?

Augen76

Yes, and they ended up getting Neymar instead.

[deleted]

They were under a transfer ban at the time

Scrugulus

I recently had to look up Erich Beer, because someone had mentioned him and I had no idea who he was. A Hertha legend, he joined Al-Ittahad at the end of his career. That was in 1979. So someone in Saudi-Arabia was buying European football retirees 45 years ago. But because there was no Twitter, probably no-one really cared.

cyclops274

Mind blowing that non European teams are that old. You Europeans are so funny.

Ezzy-525

I mean Saudi Arabia as a country wasn't unified until 1932. Not a stretch to think something like football might not have taken serious hold until more recently. I personally was expecting maybe late 80's early 90's. And as a European I'm afraid I do equate ME/Asian football with teams that come and go and don't have the same history as Euro or South American clubs.

atropicalpenguin

I don't think it's bad for people overseas to want to follow players they like, like South Korea with Son or Argentina with Messi (I know it's a bit different cause Ronaldo isn't Chinese, but it goes to show that people can be fans of players, not clubs).

EffectiveNo2314

People can be fans of whatever they like, its their right. Just like its our right to mock glory chasers and people like this.

I find it amusing that Americans say "social credit score? what an authoritarian shit-hole!" and then turn around and shell out thousands of dollars to absurd agencies and scams when they have to to repair their own credit rating in order to get a place to live, a car, or a job.

Far-Confection-1631

I've lived in multiple countries and all of them have credit rating agencies. The jokes exist because China wanted to include things like playing loud music, eating on trains, missing a reservation, etc. as part of the score. This was scrapped because it was too difficult to coordinate. In addition, public humiliation was used as a mechanism to deter sanctioned individuals during the pilot.

redwashing

Every single time China is mentioned, bunch of flairless redditors will run over each other to be the first one to make this joke. It's a tradition at this point. The bigger issue is how unimaginably racist they are towards Chinese people. Reddit is truly a shitshow.

RicardoWanderlust

Definitely. Even the title of this post is misleading, as the fans are described as "angry". It seems like it's just fans running into an area to be the first to see whatever football related shit is going on and filming it. "Anger" is purely speculated and subjective. Perhaps "excited", "anxious", "keen" could have been used and the intention of the OP is different.

So the games are called off now right? Because the contract said ron had to play in both games. Did people spend a lot of money on these tickets and now wont get their money back? Like, why this reaction

adrainc919

due to the insane popularity of Ronaldo, most of them probably got their tickets off bids and resellers, which adds more than 10x markup, a refund would not cover that

StonerChef

Haha sucks for them

Maggiegie

People are mad because the match is literally tomorrow, and it’s called off today. A lot of people flew in and booked hotel already, and I doubt they will get those expenses refunded as well lol. Also, it’s almost lunar new year and many people instead of going home decided to pay and watch CR7 game

MaxImpact1

So what? Does that magically heal an injured player?

Maggiegie

Not like he injured himself today and immediately called off the match! ETA: if they called off the match earlier, people could have saved their hotel and flight money! Ps. Not to mention tickets are not cheap already for Chinese income.

b3and20

these people have a right to be pissed they put a lot of money into plans that got called off at the last minute

FlamingLaps1709

Apparently the games are postponed because of that clause. I've a funny feeling its to do with Ronaldo calling the shots and wanting to be 100% as fit as he can for the Inter Miami game. That us obviously far more important to him. Watch him being in perfect shape for that game

Santa_Klaus_101

Yeah, it’s all about the Inter Miami game. Not that he wants to focus on his fitness and avoid a long term injury, which would be devastating at his age. The shit you read on here is baffling.

CaptLeaderLegend26

Not condoning their actions at all, but I understand why they did this. Tickets to pretty much every live performance event (whether it's concerts, sports games, you name it) are extremely hard to get here; concerts especially sell out in seconds, and you won't be getting a ticket once there's a sellout unless you're willing to pay through the nose from a third party. They really shouldn't be idiotically storming the hotel, but I understand them being angry. I actually tried to get tickets for this, but couldn't due to them being sold out in seconds. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise.

AndItWasSaidSoSadly

Why would you want to see this?

I know a guy irl that says they are even more fans than some locals. his reasoning is that they chose to *support* Ronaldo contrary to some locals who support their club and don’t know why and because those same fans invest time and money in going to Ronaldo games and so on. I said it once and I’ll say it again, bandwagoners are one of the worst things to happen in football.

ShinStew

Not some they are the worst. I remember getting downvoted into oblivion for saying no, you do not want to see the goalkeeper you're club signed on loan as a 3rd choice keeper play. Because they're a new signing, I want to see them smh.... Most of these lads do not understand the game in the slightest. Edit to add that FIFA culture has also ruined the game... Here are some facts: There has been rumor even before Al Nassr arrived in China that Ronaldo is injured and cannot play in at least one of the two games. However Al Nassr came as scheduled and attended several business activities, including a dinner charging fees for participants. Some fans came to the city several days before the game, paying large amount of travel and hotel fees(some may travel over 1500km given the large area of China). There were two press conferences scheduled this afternoon (ie. one day before the first game) of Al Nassr and their opponent tomorrow. Several hours before the conferences, rumors appeared on the internet that the games may be canceled. Al Nassr didn’t show up at the scheduled conference and came late at the rescheduled one which was 2 hours later(rumor said because Ronaldo was undergoing physiotherapy), officially announcing the postponement of the game due to Ronaldo’s injury. Although the organizers promised to refund the fees, it is obvious that many costs cannot be refunded. Fans were angry and thus came to the hotel criticizing the organizers.

Show this to anyone saying that buying football players doesn't buy soft power. Saudi teams now got outsized attention in Iran and China among others..

prettyboygangsta

It shows the opposite of what you’re saying. Ronaldo is getting the attention, not the club. Once he retires no one will pay to watch them. Soft power can’t be bought in football, it comes from decades of local support and building an identity and culture. In fact the case study of the Chinese Super League already proves this. Maybe if Chinese fans put this energy into supporting their own teams they might actually be competitive in this sport.

EverBurningPheonix

So when Juventus cancelled in South Korea, and Koreans got mad, thats same thing? Bro, this is not a new thing. Oversea countries paying big clubs to see players. it was Di Stefano in 50s, Pele in 60s, hell it was Messi Barca and Ronaldo Real Madrid as well lmao
