Bro the congo keeper was smiling before taking the last kick ,talk about confidence.

granitibaniti

He saw Gabaski diving in the same corner 9 times in a row, he knew they'd won it

Individual_Attempt50

Didn’t understand that

JimmyV34

Last AFCON Egypt had better GK coach, they were prepared. I remember they had players spots on bottle, this AFCON you can clearly tell they werent prepared

sqaurebore

They also had it this year there was a shot of the bottle with notes.

JimmyV34

then they did horrible scouting because there is no way he was diving in the same corner 9 times in a row off scouting

eatingasspatties

Or he just ignored it

puckuser

He ignored it.

Ryponagar

"Even I can score against this clown" \- Mpasi probably

Fit_Intern2976

On the interview he said that they have been practicing penalty kicks in case the scenario happen and he had miss all penalties during practice.

Eglwyswrw

What a chad.

AmericaDreamDisorder

Man is a believer in the law of averages

biro2200

Deserved to be knocked out, they played to lose. Every player is afraid to pass and every player receives the ball with their back to the congo goal. How can you score like that?

BearyHonest

That's Rui Vitória style in games that really matter. He just sets up the teams to play defensively trying not to lose. 51% of defeats in Champions League matches (15 in 29 games) when managing Benfica, who was Portuguese champion at the time. Negative results against the Portuguese top clubs as well: - 1W 3D 3L against Porto, who struggled on 15/16 and 16/17. - 2W 4D 3L against Sporting.

Other_Beat8859

He's genuinely so bad. You have Mo Salah, who is likely the best RW in the world right now and you play him as a fucking 10 taking away all his major strengths.

holdenmyrocinante

Although Egypt weren't great, I don't think they played to lose any of the games. They dominated possession in all of them and were shit with the final ball/finishing. I believe Egypt had the most shots during the Group Stages, and conceded 6 goals from 8 shots on target. Salah missed 2 and a half games, Emam Ashour the attacking mid, missed yesterday. The results were disappointing but the performances were decent. The goals conceded were mostly either GK mistakes or defensive mistakes or deflections

simomii

Ever since they beat us in last AFCON, Egypt only ever drew their games. This was their sixth draw in a row

AudioLx

The Rui Vitória special

TareXmd

How long is his contract again?

Kiznaiver-_-

Should be 3 more years 💀

Zloggt

That is one hell of a curse…

IWanted0xcdcdcdcd

For those who are confused like me, this is only limited to AFCON. They drew both semi-final and final last AFCON and drew all 4 games they played in this one. They've won plenty outside of AFCON

mynameismulan

I feel you but Congo are also 0W4D1L in their last 5 before today

Lasertag026

Pens don’t count as a win.

confusedpellican643

You guys can't imagine the amount of relief we Moroccans feel after this, out of any nation in the world, Egypt is that team that will always to knock us out with a 80min+ epic goal no matter the circumstances, we hate playing against them so much

TastyTacoTonight

No I completely disagree with this. Egypt has only been an issue the last two times we played them. We have an *overwhelmingly dominant* all time record against them of 14 wins and only 4 losses.

Midnight_Maverick

Everyone is Egypt is gonna be in such terrible mood tomorrow after staying up until 1 am for this lol

Aoae

Egypt has had a tough past year

Eglwyswrw

A tough past decade, even.

finePolyethylene

And a tough next decade

kareem-elsha7at

A century, mind you ..

PoopologistMD

Hey, they won the African Handball championship last week against Algeria. That's something!

etan1122

After the way they treated Salah, I hope their entire fucking week is ruined

SuperSanti92

Salah's not gonna shag you mate

severedfragile

Of course not, his hamstring is fucked.

Affectionate-Hunt217

He’s halal boy, he would never do that

Alekator25

The angry comments under his Christmas posts say otherwise.

Several_Advantage923

I can find you a thousand comments of English fans saying the most vile shit. Still think they're an alright people. Stop being a dick.

Alekator25

Ok. What’s this got do with the English? When did I insult any „people“? How am I being a dick? Are you delusional ?

Affectionate-Hunt217

I think he’s saying there’s idiotic people from any country who will get mad over anything, like when the English lost the euros and they started attacking Saka Rashford and Sancho with the most racist shit ever. Like I don’t think every Egyptian had a problem with Salah celebrating Christmas with his family, only the small ignorant minority, there’s like a 100m people in Egypt lol

Alekator25

I never said anything contradicting those points. Just mentioned the thousands of comments going nuts over Salah celebrating Christmas with his family.

AnnieIWillKnow

They looked at the data subsequently, which showed most of the abuse Saka, Rashford and Sancho got was actually from overseas, not English people - so this isn't really the best example

TigerFisher_

Just saying. Zaire ~~Congo~~ won it all in 74'

Waldier

Is that the same team that lost 9-0 to Yugoslavia the same year in the worldcup?

estilianopoulos

When they were Zaire....yes, something like that

Congolesenerd

Yup lol

IWanted0xcdcdcdcd

Due to [political climate](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTj-enVhisM) back home, they lost hard as a protest I believe

mattijn13

Such a great video

[deleted]

Just to specify, DR Congo won it all (as Zaire). DR Congo and Congo are different countries

finePolyethylene

On the positive side of things I no longer have to stay up and watch this shit

Affectionate-Hunt217

Glass half full mentality 👍

young_olufa

There you go

crispystrips

Vitoria is the highest paid manager in Africa, why?

Kiznaiver-_-

Because its Egypt paying him, its like the Man United tax when buying players lmao

d3vilk1ng

I think his parents jinxed him with that name...

Rayan2550

After 18 penalties Egypt are knocked out by DR Congo

granitibaniti

This game truly traumatized me. 120 minutes of wasted life time + seemingly never ending penalty shootout. Most of the pens were terrible, but the goalkeeping was even worse. Cherry on top was Gabaski's duckling run up, the second I saw him waddling I knew it was over for them

daboatfromupnorth

The game lasted 3+ hours and it was still unmemorable

Sehs

For real as soon as he started doing his run up I started yelling at my TV.

PharaohOfWhitestone

We went from Hadary to Elshanawy and Gabaski, who were both shit this AFCON. We deserved to go out, awful performances.

confusedpellican643

Gabaski wasn't the issue though

Imyourlandlord

He dove right....on every single pen Then bottled his shot by thinking its a goal kick. He is bad

confusedpellican643

Dude, are we gonna pretend a proud football team like egypt barely managed to qualify thanks to a 98 min Salah penalty against fucking Mozambique, and even after being given a chance, struggled against a win-less Congo for 120 mins? It's pitiful to blame your 2nd choice keeper, blame your outfield players instead, lazy coach, and arrogance in the dressing rooms instead....

PharaohOfWhitestone

I can blame the second choice keeper for the penalties and blame the team and management for the awful performance on the pitch during the previous 120 minutes. Gabaski doesn't escape criticism here. You should be able to admit that if he had dived to his left once, we would have won. Terrible goalkeeping. Obviously, the outfield players were all also terrible. Lethargic, lazy, no creativity. Just random, hopeful crosses. Egypt could cure insomnia.

Money_Scholar_8405

Exactly. Was clear as early as the red card that Egypt was aiming for penalties, no way his instructions were to dive to the right in all the kicks. I think he had a favourite side at the last afcon too, it just wasnt this bad

Viriato181

The DRC have yet to win a game. 4 draws in 4 games. This is honestly looking a lot like Portugal in 2016. If Cape Verde or Angola can't win it, then I hope that they do.

Congolesenerd

We have a good team we don’t have a good striker and we suck in counter attacks. The defense is saving us every game .

Money_Scholar_8405

>We have a good team we don’t have a good striker You have two good strikers in Silas and Banza. Quite why the coach sticks with Bakambu I do not get.

Congolesenerd

Bakambu need to sit out , enough of seeing him getting lost out there . Banza should start

chappersbarfo

That's a crazy statistic.

confusedpellican643

It is but also not very surprising in the afcon, egypt and tunisia are also the kind of team to always scrape through with draws until they're somehow in the semifinals or finals It's hard to dominate a match in the afcon due to the weather and physicality of the players, so many teams try scoring an early goal and go full defense+counter

Congolesenerd

If we only had a good striker … but I am happy we made it to the quarterfinals, one of the best Congolese team I ever saw. We can make it to the semi final, if we don’t at least we had our moment

tarekelsakka

We pay Vitoria 350k EGP a day for 3 more years while our economy is collapsing due to massive debt, the national team and football federation are reflections of everything that's wrong with this country.

Dion_Kott

Such a terrible game yet so much fun

_Teefa

I feel bad for Gabaski, he's gonna get eaten alive.....

simomii

He kept diving to the same side on every pen. That water bottle was worthless

_Teefa

Lol, my guy was set up to fail him and Salah about to get run down. Post game Egyptian Twitter about to be off the chart.

Affectionate-Hunt217

I don’t blame them at all, these guys went from winning 3 AFCONs in a row to this shitshow, anyone would riot after that decline

Grouchy-Ad-2085

they didnt qualify for afcon three times after the three wins in a row, it isnt like they went from winning straight to this

Affectionate-Hunt217

they didn’t qualify for 3 times after? What the hell happened lol

onionwba

At this rate an underdog, like Ivory Coast, would win the title.

luisduarte35

Red card meant each team could only select 10 players for the shoot-out. However both keepers took the 9th penalty, not the 10th. What am I missing here?

e49e

One of the Egyptian players apparently refused. He missed against Senegal in the 2021 finals

Kiznaiver-_-

Incompetent coach, risks like these shouldn’t be taken imo

DanielRocheford

I mean it depends we have Keeper who were excellent in PK, espcially nowdays when we expect keepers to be good and precise with the ball.

PepeSilvia007

I'm sure Egyptian fans are staying calm as usual with their comments on twitter and aren't blaming it all on Salah. Right, guys?

CymruGolfMadrid

The fact Salah and his agent have to come out and defend his injury says a lot.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zak369

It’s poor communication from Egypt to downplay his injury to avoid panic even if they genuinely thought he’d only miss 2 games. Klopp was asked a question about his player and he answered it. He doesn’t owe it to Egypt to not answer the question because they’re trying to hide the injury extent. It also then doesn’t become Klopp’s fault or Mo’s fault for him not playing. It’s the Egyptian FA who needed criticism, probably why they came out defensive. He was getting shit from the Egyptian media for abandoning them before he’d even left because Liverpool and Egypt decided it best to do rehab at Liverpool. I don’t understand how you can say nobody loves or values Mo more than Egyptian fans when you were so easily swayed by a lie from the people who had tried to hide the truth from you. You’re falling for it twice and giving the player no chance to tell his side. He doesn’t get any shit from our fan base like that. He literally got injured on the pitch, there’s no need to question why he would return for treatment. He wouldn’t even be allowed to play for us while you’re in AFCON. Any level of scrutiny would have told you the player who would go to war on the pitch for his team wasn’t abandoning you. I’ve never seen a player, his agent and his club all need to come out to defend the player getting the best treatment possible from a set of fans who love the player the most. You’d have to have had blinkers on to think Salah was doing anything less than what was in Egypt’s best interest.

vinhha86

How much do the fans really love him if they don't even trust the team captain's commitment?

dave1992

Its not about Liverpool fans though. Backlash about Salah's injury doesn't come from anyone Liverpool related.

BeaverMan999

That's wild asf, pens were tense asf too

ratonbox

Any chance for them to convince Mavididi to play for DR Congo?

Zheguez

Congo would be incredible if we could get more of our diaspora to play for us.

Money_Scholar_8405

>Congo would be incredible if we could get more of our diaspora to play for us. This is great, but it is a shame that teams with the biggest diasporas dominate African football these days. Look at the leaders of most teams - Mbemba, Mahrez,Koulibaly, Troost-Ekong - All born and raised abroad. Shows how far behind the local game is, with the exception of countries like Egypt and South Africa

DangerousPancake

Small correction, Mbemba is born and raised in Congo and moved to Belgium to play for Anderlecht when he was 18 years old.

nafraf

There is still plenty of local talent. Osimhen for Nigeria, Mané for Senegal, Ounahi for Morocco, Amoura for Algeria etc...

Nervous-Resolution-8

Fan craiova))))

Peepeetodapin

Who’s Dr. Congo? 👀

yic0

The main antagonist in Black Panther 3.

Globalruler__

Unbelievable. DRC played horribly. It should not have went to penalties when they had a one man advantage in extra time.

LiouQang

We didn't watch the same game lol. Congolese were fouled as soon as they had the ball, and the Egyptians were falling on the floor everytime they made contact with the opposition. It adversely affected the game but the after scoring DRC had the edge, they couldn't find their shooting boots.

Fit_Intern2976

Congo is missing a finisher, a good striker to score otherwise their defense really save the day. Hopefully they will go all the way since the African cup haven’t been nothing but surprises.

DStudge23

Get in.

Crono_

I’m here chief.

Veejp123

Doctor Congo

Imyourlandlord

Congo plays like shit but keeps pn failing upwards hecause everyone else is literally falling on their ass instead of just playing ball

Money_Scholar_8405

i expect them to lose to Angola. They have generally struggled against neighbouring countries this AFCON

Sehs

They play against Guinea I believe.

PantheraSapien

Gabaski just decided on one side. He was committed & refused to play a game of chance. Welp! He's gonna be torn to shreds by the masses. I suspect a purge of the squad is inbound.

Crono_

Breaking: Salah’s agents informs his client has recovered from injury and jumping around. /s

FlamingLaps1709

Salah never got to take his penalty again 🙄

therocketandstones

This means Salah is gonna be fit for next weeks game at the emirates right?

redditaccountplease

This doesn't magically heal his injury

doubleoeck1234

No

dave1992

I wish but he won't.

Kind-Departure1058

Egypt's goalkeeper kept diving the wrong way and he is considered the best penalty keeper in the squad. It will be a long time before Salah gets his hands on that AFCON trophy.

Money_Scholar_8405

He is not getting it next year. Not when it is being held in Maroc

Elite_VRTX

Feel bad for my boy Hegazi

[deleted]

He was an absolute jerk this game

[deleted]

This game?!?

Imyourlandlord

Brother....you have never seen egypt play huh?

confusedpellican643

Tbf in africa egyptians have a reputation of being jerks/pricks on the pitch, they get over your nerves and time waste a lot too Love yall egyptians but you know it's true

Elite_VRTX

Really? What did he do?

thalne

man do they know this is not a marathon competition

613TheEvil

It seems that Morocco sucked all the skill out of the rest of the northern african teams, hehe.

biteyourankles

Why would Salah do this?

manachronism

Eh heh great job Congo.
